Mutations
Mutation description: The ability to form spiders with her own flesh and blood, and control said spiders. When she creates the spiders, they form inside her pores (from a gland that developed specifically for the task) and grow within a matter of minutes to the size she wants. Once the spiders are fully formed, they ‘hatch’ from her skin and she can order them around like mini eight legged soldiers. They act as her eyes and ears, by reporting things back to her. To explain this simply: Megan can understand her spiders and they can understand her- This only applies to spiders she creates however. The life span of each different size also varies. Small spiders usually only live up to a month, give or take a few days, Medium sized spiders will generally live up to two months, and larger spiders such as Tarantulas will live up to four months. The reason behind this is that larger spiders take more time and effort to create- thus they are allowed to live just a little bit longer than the rest.
There is a wide variety of spiders that she can create, from jumping spiders to Bird eater tarantulas. The spiders act like, and share the same venom as their naturally born cousins; but to be able to properly produce the type of venom that her spiders need, she first needs to have been bitten by one at some point in her life. Her body absorbs the venom, counteracts the effects, stores the ‘recipe’, and allows her to reproduce it later on when she creates the spider is belongs to.
(On a side note; Megan cannot mix and match spiders and venom's. The spider must match its toxin for the whole thing to turn out right.)Strengths: The spiders act as protection and company for her and her tolerance to venom allows her the freedom of not worrying about natural or synthetic poisons and venom's. She can order her spiders to attack, to track, or to spy on someone, or have them hang around her for protection. When it comes to how intelligent they are, the spiders can range anywhere from the intelligence of a bug, to that of a small dog.
(Without that whole potty training mess.)Weaknesses: The bleeding wounds that appear on her don’t just disappear. They stick around as long as any normal wound, and are just as severe. If she produces a spider the size of a large tarantula, the large wound it leaves behind after being ‘born’ will stick around until it naturally heals. The wounds leave behind scars, small or large white spots. When she has a batch of spiders incubating in her skin, direct hits to that area will cause her massive amounts of pain, and have caused her to lose consciousness in the past.
Also; the amount of time it takes to make a batch of spiders varies. Big arachnids will generally take a lot longer (up to ten minutes), while smaller spiders will take considerably less time (up to four or five). The size of the batch also adds to the amount of time; larger batches will leave her drained of energy and in a good amount of pain from the wounds, while small batches are quick to make. (Batches usually consist of: Twenty to thirty small spiders- Ex: Jumping spiders; Five to six large spiders- Ex: Tarantulas; Ten to fifteen medium sized spiders- Ex: Wolf spiders.) When making a single Arachnid, the amount of time needed ranges from seconds, to minutes once again depending on the size of the spider.
The number of spiders she can control at one time depends entirely on what type of spiders she is making. Two to three batches of small spiders would leave her with many small wounds over her back and arms- but she would still for the most part be functional. The larger the spider, the fewer batches- Medium sized spiders would leave her in poor condition, with many gun shot sized surface wounds, and larger spiders would leave her with a handful of gaping wounds that would need urgent care (as previously stated.) In total she can create at any given time: three small batches- 90 small spiders max, or two batches of medium spiders- 30 medium sized spiders max, or and one batch of large spiders- Six max. Of course, she has to use discretion when it comes to creating a wide variety of differently sized spiders in one batch. Two large spiders, five to six medium sized spiders, and a handful of small spiders all in one batch will leave her hurting, but still mobile and with plenty of company.
Lastly, her control over the spiders works only within a certain radius around her. Three miles in any direction is allotted to the arachnids. If she or her spiders move out of the radius, the spider loses contact with her and turns 'feral' in a sense. (It returns to doing what any normal spider would; making webs, eating bugs, and falling into people’s coffee.)
Current Spiders she can create: Wolf spider: Large and aggressive with a pretty nasty bite, her favorite next to the jumping spiders.
Jumping spider: Varying in size, cuteness, and agility; her eyes and ears around the city.
Tarantula: The tank of her spiders. Now if she could only get her hands on one of those orb weavers...
Black widow: Packing a potent venom and a strong web, this is her soldier spider.
Cellar Spider: Lanky, stealthy, and ghostlike. You'll never notice them- but they're there...
Garden spider: Pretty colors, unique shapes, what's not to like?
(
Special note about spiders: They all share her eye color, due to the DNA she shares with them.)
~~
Secondary mutation description: Web Spinning. Megan has the ability to form thin, nearly invisible threads of sticky silk from glands on the roof of her mouth and to expel them from her mouth into the air. (The thread is made up of proteins and sugars, and only solidifies into a strand once it is expelled from the gland.) She can do this in secrecy, while talking for example, by expelling only a few threads at a time, A tactic mainly used when she feels the need to flee and intends to try to catch her enemy in a silk net, or she can intertwine them in her mouth to form a rope of sorts or a large sticky ball to spit at people.
Her thread is very much the same as a spiders, stickiness and all, and with enough strands she could bungee off of a building, or repel down a cliff with little to no problem. (The rope would need to be secured to something, or course.) Her thread is super lightweight, strong, stretchable up to 140% of its own length before snapping, and can withstand temperatures below -40 Celsius. (flames however, break apart the webs structure and they more or less disintegrate...) this makes it a valuable asset to her. If she were to take the time to weave her threads together, once combined they would make a material strong enough to rival that of a Kevlar vest.
Strengths: This mutation is mostly used as an escape tactic, or for goofing around. She can form a net of sorts with thin single threads- which are used to give her a few precious moments in which to escape while her attacker flails about to free his or herself. Or, as previously stated, she can form a cord or a ball of silk to use as a rope, weapon, or projectile.
Weaknesses: She isn't immune to the stickiness of her own thread, and must be careful of its placement. Megan also sticks to a very strict health food diet in order to have enough energy to produce the thread at such a rapid pace, and its sticky coating.
Power Growth: 6/5/2012
Growth Description: Megan has gained the ability to control the structure and appearance of her spiders. She is able to alter the length of their legs, the size of different parts of their bodies, and their colors and shapes. For example; she would be able to engineer one of her jumping spiders so that it will match the color of the wall it’s hiding on, have a smaller body than normal, and have eyes larger than normal. In doing this, she could make jumping spiders with the shape and color of black widows, and brown recluses with the shape and color of harmless garden spiders. In addition, she has also established a deeper mental connection with the spiders she creates.
Strengths: The ability allows her better use of the various types of spiders she is able to create, as well as the ability to mimic other species that she may not have the ability to create. She would also be able to re-size the venom glands of a spider, and the fangs. Thus making a spider with a more powerful bite. The added bonus of being able to see glimpses of what her children see only helps her to visualize what they may be currently looking at, so she will have a better idea of where they are, and what the situation she is having them keep an eye on is.
Weaknesses: Since she is in essence messing with the DNA of some of her spiders, it can affect how her spiders function. For instance, if she were to make a spider with a comically large rear end, it would have terrible time getting around places. The same goes for spiders with small legs and regular sized bodies. The deeper mental connection can sometimes leave a strain on her. Random onset headaches and mental strain sometimes occur.
- In addition; Playing with ones own DNA has risks. In toying with her children- how they look and function- she is also toying with her own DNA. Because of this, a few things have steadily begun to creep up. She has lost the ability to produce actual children, as her body would automatically attempt to infuse arachnid DNA into a growing fetus. Her attitude, mentality, and the way her body functions has also begun to change.
Various natural traits of a spider have started to filter into her personality. Animals and people are subtly viewed as food sources, and wounds and raw meat boost her appetite on sight. She struggles with inhuman urges more and more frequently.
Her tolerance to venom and poisons (natural and synthetic) has also started to work against her. Medications will no longer function properly, as her body will pick out anything that could be considered “poisonous”. This means that if she were to come down with a flu, any medications she would received would need to be double or triple dosed in order for them to work properly on her. The same would go for pain killers, allergy medications and so on. This could also lead to things that can cause poisoning within the body being rejected, such as alcohol.
Power growth 01/27/2014
Growth description:
Through years of near constant use of her power, Megan has gained the ability to selectively create spider parts instead of full bodied spiders. These parts are different in that they are considerably larger than the biggest spider she can currently make (Tarantula). They are created deep within her flesh, Instead of simply being produced from the pores. Instead of being created with the intent of them being shed, they become a temporary part of her body. For instance, if she were to create four legs that sprouted from her back or sides, they would function as extra limbs for as long as her body could sustain them. She would be able to control them the same as her arms or legs, and they would effectively be attached to her via 'roots'.
Strengths:
- These root like structures function as tendons, muscles, and nerves for the created part. They also allow her to support her own body weight while they are attached, and about 30lbs more.
- Being able to create the parts of spiders rather than the spiders themselves allows Megan to change little bits of herself instead. She could create small spider feet on the palms of her hands and soles of her feet, allowing her to carry herself up walls and across rough surfaces. If instead of feet she were to create silk glands, she could carry her own body weight across some smooth surfaces, such as glass.
- She can create parts anywhere on her body that has pores, same as the creation of spiders.
- Parts that are left intact long enough are slowly absorbed back into the body, where they are more or less recycled back into her system. They same goes for the web she creates, and any spiders she has created. If she eats them, they are broken down and recycled back into her body. When this happens, the space previously occupied by the limb/creation heals and returns to it's regular state naturally.
Weaknesses:
- Grown limbs have weak-points where they are attacked to her body. These points make it relatively easy for the part to be separated from her, whether by too much weight being applied, or by them being forcibly removed. Removal in either of these fashions leaves behind a deep wound roughly the size and shape of the part that was created.
- These wounds take longer to heal than those left behind by her spiders, and cause a considerably higher amount of pain.
- It takes a considerable amount of time for her to create very large spider parts. If she were to make four spider legs large enough to carry her own weight, she would need to put at least an hour into their creation. Smaller parts, like fangs and attached venom glands, would take ten minutes, and things smaller than those would take anywhere from 2-8 minutes to create.
- The parts themselves only last for about three hours before her body starts to reabsorb the tissue used to make them. If she is able to fully recycle the parts she made she needs only to wait for about a half an hour for her body to settle and adjust, before she could set about creating another pair (of legs, in this example). If the parts are separated from her and she is unable to recycle them, it takes her significantly longer to recover and build back up the necessary resources to re-produce the lost parts.
- The longest/widest she can make her parts are 6' and just under the circumference of her own arm. about 9" around.
Fighting Style: Explanation: While Megan isn’t much of a fighter; she has had her fair share of standoffs. Generally she sticks to fist fights; kicking, clawing and biting if needed. Really, she mostly relies on her powers to get herself out of scrapes.
Pros for fighting style: She can usually take care of herself, against other Non-mutant girls in a fist fight.
Cons for fighting style: If it’s a big guy who also happens to be a mutant with awesome scary powers? She’s screwed.
Faction Allegiance: The X-men/ The Order/ The Kabal/ Other/
Unaffiliated History Of Your Character:Born to Patrica and Steven Rova, in a quite corner of Eugene Oregon, Megan grew up a middle child. Her older sister Sophia and her younger brother Jason proved to be her worst enemies and her best friends while she was growing up. During her childhood, she went through all of the normal stages- From her terrible twos, into her moody tweens. She spent the first half of her life running free, without a care in the world, before she matured a little, and decided that life wasn’t all it was cracked up to be- and she was going to have to fix that. It was during her temperamental teen years that she discovered her powers. Mainly, she developed a rather large blemish on her face one day and upon investigating it, found it to be occupied by a small dead black spider.
Shrugging the strange occurrence off, she was surprised to find another the next week on her back, as well as one more on her arm. This continued for a month, before she realized that it wasn't going to stop. Thus, ever the curious cat, she experimented. After a year of experimentation, she found that she could create the small creatures and control them. This was a very lovely discovery.
After dropping out of high school at the tender and oh so mature age of seventeen, she moved out of her parent’s house to live with relatives in southern Oregon, before moving across country to pursue a career in beauty (hair design) purely on a whim (not plot related at all, noooo). Now settled comfortably in a New York apartment, Megan has spent the last couple of years learning how to control her powers, (including the recent discovery that she could spit silk) and refine them. After apparently 'waking up' one day in a bar, smack in the middle of New York... which is about as far from Oregon as you can get, she's decided not to try and return home immediately. She wants to unravel the puzzle how she got there and why.

Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: Andrea.
Sample RP: “Listen, I’m not interested. So drop it.” Blue eyes peered cautiously out from under her thicket of bangs. The man was deranged... and it seemed she only had herself to blame. She watched him pace back and forth between herself and the door. “I don’t understand Megan... All of those things you said- they were
lies?” His hurt brown gaze focused on her, making her cringe. Yes, yes they had been lies. Every single one of them... but so what? People lied everyday, and did they get some lunatic on their case? No. Life was so unfair sometimes.
“Of course they were you idiot...” The hurt in his eyes flashed to anger, and then quickly receded back. “Did you really think someone like me could fall head over heels for someone like you? You’ve got whipped cream on your nose and yellow stains all over your shirt for gods sake!
Get out of my way...” He speared her with a look and she shifted on her toes, her fingers clutching at the half empty can of pepper spray in her pocket. Oh... how it had saved her so many times before. She was ready, if he made to attack. A swift spray of peppery goodness in the eyes and even the manliest of men would weep like a three year old.
“I don’t understand... you-...
all of those things...!?” He grunted, his feelings seeming to overwhelm him as he brought his palms to his eyes and sniffled. Megan’s lip curled. How revolting. “Did you mean anything that you said? Maybe we could start over? I could take you out and-“
“Jesus Christ... are you deaf? I
lied to you. I don’t like you, I don’t think you’re attractive, and I don’t like any of your [expletive] pop music. I just wanted some free coffee... can I leave now?” He seemed to stiffen up, tears still rolling down his plump cheeks; dripping onto his green apron. She rolled her eyes impatiently and moved to push past him. “No! Megan-" His hand clamped down on her arm, halting her before she could even lay a finger on the door. She readied her pepper spray.
“Megan don’t do this to me! I think I-... I love you! From the moment you-” Resisting the urge to snarl at him, she wrenched her arm from his grip. “WOAH...
Woahwoahwoah, Don’t you start dropping the
L word on me! I’ve only spoken to you, what, five or six times?... all while getting coffee! I didn’t even know what your name was until last night when you tracked my phone number down and called me you [expletive]!” Her pocketed hand clenched the pepper spray. She stepped back, he took a step towards her, and she didn’t hesitate to whip her concealed hand out and send a jet of burning straight into his face. He screamed bloody murder, hands clutching at his watering eyes and she wasted not a second of it to make a break for the door, and then for home. She would certainly never be returning to
that coffee shop again...
