The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>"Haha. Maybe we will ride that shard platform, after all,"
And Kokoro paused in her footsteps glaring daggers at her cousin after his blatant attempt to change the subject. Shin had always been the honest type. It's what made him good man and why she looked up to him so much. Of course now he was dodging the question as much as he did back when she was a 3rd grader asking him how babies were made. Obviously something serious must have went down and he wasn't spilling the beans. That was bad because he knew she'd never let up until he told her and she would continue nudging the question in his direction until she got an answer.
"Tetsuya-san. Don't avoid it. Please, just tell me what happened. Tell me why you wouldn't let me go with you. Why you looked so broken for weeks after returning home. Please?"

>>"Tetsuya-san. Don't avoid it. Please, just tell me what happened. Tell me why you wouldn't let me go with you. Why you looked so broken for weeks after returning home. Please?"
Avoid the mood-killing death trap to run quickly over the horizon, him? Hardly!
Meep...
"I'm not avoiding anything, Koko-chan. Nothing happened. Uh. Hold on a second." He jerked to a halt, brought the first two fingers on his right hand up to his forehead, and focused. Eyebrows scrunched as shard after shard appeared, and arranged itself mathematically to form one larger 3' x 6' rectangular platform of triangles that hovered a half-foot off the ground. The sun bounced off their multicolored surfaces, illuminating the rainbow sheen. Shin took a step up off the path, onto the rectangle. He turned to offer Kokoro his hand. "Hop on."
"No." she said giving a defiant look. Nothing happened? She called BS. The day he came home, he looked more than physically tired. He looked like his soul had been beaten down. And it went on like that for days. "If nothing happened, where's Kasumi?" she asked again. "I bet you've talked to other people about it." and apparently spooned, but that wasn't to her knowledge thank god, " but you can't talk to your own flesh and blood? We've been through so much...and you've always been so happy..." its true he always had been a happy camper and had this ability to raise other people's spirits with his own.
"I felt bad for you after getting disowned because you were a mutant...and then you got better, and we were having fun, then you went away and you looked so broken and I felt helpless because there wasn't anything I can do to help you. And I just wanted to know what made you that way because I don't like seeing you like that. It hurts." and with that speech she wiped away a tear that had over flowed from her eye. He was her favorite family member, her favorite sparring partner, and after learning about the X-men, he had taken the mantle as her favorite superhero. She wanted to make sure he was always well and if something ever was wrong in his life, she wanted to know about it. Not to be nosy...well, that was a half truth, but to be as supportive as she could.

>> "No."
Kokoro stated. Shin blinked at her. No?
>>"If nothing happened, where's Kasumi?" I bet you've talked to other people about it.” " but you can't talk to your own flesh and blood? We've been through so much...and you've always been so happy..."
Shin winced.

It wasn’t that he couldn’t talk with her. It’s just that it was hard. He liked being happy… and he liked her being happy. Talking about all that had gone down in, and after, Romania, wouldn’t have kept their happiness alive. He didn’t want to be a murderer! And that’s exactly what he’d be, if he told her. A murderer… and that’s exactly what he’d done in Romania. And exactly what had been done to him in Romania, and to his friends, and to so many others…
“Kokoro…” Shin began. His face faltered, and cracked like an eggshell. It looked like the yolk was on him. He’d have to tell. “It’s hard talking about it… Kokoro… so many reasons why you couldn’t come, and so many reasons why I shouldn’t have gone…”
"Like?" she stared back at him waiting for him to finish. She new one obvious reason she couldn't have gone was because of her inexperience and he know that he would never put her in harms way like that, even if she did have have super awesome control over her powers, he probably still would have opted to keep her out of that mission. However, the reasons why he shouldn't have gone caught her full attention. True fact that when Shin had returned, he was in the worst shape she'd ever seen him in during her 15 years of existence. Now she was dying to know what had happened, though something told her that she wouldn't like it at all.
"I just wanna know what happened. What happened that's so hard to talk about? "

Dying. Right. Dying to know. Shin shook his head. He didn’t like thinking about any of the grisly details of that fight. Of that entire experience… “It was a concentration camp, Kokoro.” Shin’s voice came out light. “Didn’t you pay any attention to the news?”
It had been a concentration camp. Mutants had died. Lee had died. She’d been brought back. Shin had helped Ghost wheel dead bodies to an incinerator, and all he’d been able to do to fight those horrors back was be nerfed by his own body, and struck completely blind. “Nothing about that mission was pleasant… and my own mistakes got me captured in the camps…”
"Um...not really." Kokoro answered. She never really checked the news. Not even on the stuff that first pops up on Yahoo's home page. It was always straight on to facebook or youtube. She never bothered to watch anything on television because everything she wanted to watch was online. Newspapers? Pfft. She would never tough one and she hated the smell of them. Then when she heard that he was put in the camp...well, it was like something in her mind had snapped. She stood there with a vacant stare. Yes, she could understand why he didn't want to talk about it in the first place. Why he'd rather not bring up the subject at all. She didn't dare to ask him about the things that happened in the camps. There was never anything good going on inside of one, so there was no need to ask.
"I'm...sorry." she apologized softly as she turned her back to him. Now that she knew the paraphrased version of what Shin had gone though, she felt just a bit out of line for having pressed the issue so. No one would want to remember being in one of those. Though she also felt some anger rise up inside of her. How DARE someone create such an environment? World War II had been the most infamous use for them, but Kokoro had really thought human and mutant kind had turned away from such barbaric practices. Worst of all, they tossed her cousin in one. "No one...no one deserves that. Those people are horrible. I don't even death is worse than being put in one of those..."

It seemed she understood. Shin took a step off the shard platform, and let it vanish as a weight rolled off his shoulders. Shin’s face was sad, his look, distant… yet, his mind drifted to the one silver lining around the dark storm clouds overhead. It was out there, now. The toughest part had been breaking it to Kokoro. Living through it? That was easy, compared to bringing her down.
She was sorry. He didn’t want that. It was his fault she was sad, and his fault he’d gotten thrown in. He’d handled the revelation poorly. He shifted uncomfortably, and scratched the back of his neck.
“You’re right. Nobody deserves that… don’t compare it to death, though…” Shin grimaced, and looked away. “Some people actually prayed for that… and some of my friends cheated it…” Lee had died. She’d been brought back to life. He remembered the happy rain cloud girl. To her, Death had been a joke… an escape. “And during all that time, blind in the camps, all I could think about… was my mistake…”
"Mistake?" she repeated as she turned back around and glanced at him. Well, how could she not compare it to death? Death was the end of the life cycle. What happened afterward was up to debate. Whether you believed in heaven and hell or reincarnation...Kokoro believed in the latter. You spirit returns to the earth until it would be reborn again into a new being. That thought alone made her figure that dying and being at peace til another life came around was far better than being tortured by some monsters that had their minds poisoned by hate and power. Honestly, she didn't want to push it any further, but that little voice in the back of her mind just urged her to go on and ask him what exactly his mistake was.

“I got worked up about some unrelated stupid thing, and messed up. My mind was so focused on Kasumi, and worrying over nothing, that I didn’t even notice the bad guys until it was too late… I was supposed to be on watch better than that… after nearly everyone got captured at the parliament bombing, I should have known…”
He wasn’t sure why it had been so easy to get lost in the thoughts of her… maybe, he’d just been horribly worried. Maybe the distractions were just his brain telling him his power growth was coming on… maybe, he’d just needed to come clean to Jaxon about what was guilting him, no matter how innocent it had been. It really didn’t matter. He’d screwed up.
“And that’s why I left her,” Shin stated. “Because I’m weak, and I worry… and that makes me less effective when I’m being counted on…” His face fell.
"That's not true, Tetsuya-san." Kokoro began. "You are not weak. I don't see how you can even believe that you are. You are are one of the strongest people I know. I mean, I don't understand how being worried about someone you care about makes you weak. It makes you human." she was trying to understand his words. He left Kasumi because he cared about her and that was distracting for him? That was what she was interpreting it as. Hm, yes she saw the look on his face. Exactly the expression she didn't like seeing on him. Shin had always been a happy person. That was a Shinbo for you. Happy go lucky, until someone or something pushes them to strike with deadly force. Today was supposed to be a happy day, but her big mouth had to kill it. Maybe it could be saved.
"You managed to move on though. Or it seemed like it cause you weren't as mopey anymore. You can say you're weak all you want, but it's not true at all. Takes strength and bravery to do what you and the other X-men do. If you were weak, you'd be dead, but of course you're not because you've got an unbreakable will. Yes, I know I'm like a Sailor Moon fanatic and she's one of my favorite heroes, but she's not you. I get my two for one. My favorite hero and cousin in the same person. It's convenient." she gave him a small smile.

What she was saying may have been true. Maybe he wasn't weak... but only because he'd been strong enough to leave Kasumi, for the greater good of them all. He knew it sounded stupid. He'd known it was stupid when he went out drinking with Aurum and Kealey... yet, it had been an important reason for him. When Kealey had evaporated Shin's worries, all that had been left was the drunken truth. The Drunken truth was 100% pure.
He couldn't have done this any other way. He'd had to end it... despite all his worries, and attempts to keep himself from hurting Kasumi, he'd failed at that. It was one of his worst days... he wasn't proud of it. He had no one to blame but himself.
Shin shook his head at what Kokoro had said. "Maybe caring about someone doesn't make you weak... but still... I had to end it..." Working on a team with Kasumi and worrying about her constantly wouldn't have helped anyone. He couldn't be human when he was on the X-men... so... he'd had to make the sacrifice. Someone needed to hit him for thinking that.
Shin looked at Kokoro. He offered a weak smile. She was trying to comfort him, beyond all the inciting of drama she'd accomplished. He didn't want to see her sad for him, and he was trying to move on. Shin still missed Kasumi. He tried to keep himself distracted, so he didn't think of it. He wasn't sure he'd ever truly be over her. She'd been his moon princess, after all...
"Let's do something else," Shin offered. "This conversation is too heavy... but thanks, Kokoro. It's nice to know someone thinks I'm strong."
"It's understandable. Some people just aren't meant to be together, you know? People come and go like seasons. I'm sure the right girl will come around sometime. But until then..." she latched onto his arm once again as her eyes chinked up with the large smile that usually occupied her features. "I think we need to cheer ourselves up. Forget the shopping. I say we grab ourselves some ice cream."she suggested. That always made her feel better after getting bummed out. Besides, it had been a long time since she's ordered a sundae large enough to leave her bloated and with a serious tummy ache.
"How does splitting a 5lb Banana split or chocolate sundae sound?"

Maybe, someday... Hmm. Maybe. Maybe he didn't need to make himself feel bad, if he did find someone. All forcing himself to take all the blame accomplished was making him feel like a pariah. Shin shrugged.
"Ice cream sounds good." Maybe he'd get something with blackberries in it? Or strawberry? The possibilities were endless. Shin focused on drumming up the shard platform again. A minute later, they left the lawn. Skywards and to ice cream deliciousness, they went!
