The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was probably the allergenic b's for n's that made Maya duck her head and smile. It wasn't as if Jude had ever had a chance, as a ten year old or even in the future. Maya put her hand on top of Sebastian's. Of course, it had a tissue in it, but the sentiment was there as well.
Maya and Sebastian spread the gospel of a new future.
"The dream was real enough. I'm here. You're here." Maya grinned and pinched Jude playfully. A yip and a few other pinches were traded between boys. "But we don't have to be who we were in the dream. You can be who ever you want now, in your own time. Learn from your mistakes before they happen. We did." Sebastian hopped in to patch over some confused looks with smooth and snotty French words. Very authentic sounding.
"We stopped the thing that started it all so that you could choose your own path." Among other reasons. "You can do anything you want now. You don't have to travel that path."
More shifting and glances exchanged between the boys, but Jude had eyes only for the American couple before him. "I want to go with you!" He was so convicted with his statement that he got to his feet and said it again. "I want to go with you!"
He sounded so sure. Maya's brow wrinkled and she looked to her husband. Was she destined to rush through her life's stages? Maybe it was best to cram them all in before ten years was up... She shrugged.

“I don't know what I want to be yet,” the boy looked a bit concerned to not have his life already planned out like the others.
“A doctor is a good thigg to be. It's what I want to be this tibe, too.” Sebastian regarded the small nosed boy then, “It's also okay dot to know yet. You have a lot of tibe to decide, and evedd whed you're old like mbe you cad chage your bind.”
As for Jude, he had made his hopes for the future quite clear. It hadn't been a demand, but those wibble eyes left him with very little choice all the same. Jude's and Maya's. Sebastian met the gaze of the latter. It was a shame that neither of them had telepathy right now, so they could discuss in private how they should proceed. Since that wasn't an option, he resorted to the next best thing: Japanese.
“Baya?” Sebastian raised an eyebrow at her then continued in a language he was fairly certain the children wouldn't be able to follow, “[What do you think now that you've met the ten year old Jude and he wants to come home with us?]” Jude tilted his head upon hearing his name amidst the unfamiliar foreign sounds. “”
Jude frowned at him and turned back to Ghost, “What did he say?”
A muddled smile twisted Maya's lips. His Japanese was even more adorable than his English with his allergies. But that wasn't the problem. The problem was that he was putting an important life decision on her shoulders when she was already emotionally invested.
""
Jude was getting impatient. Asking questions with so much hope in his eyes... he was going to make her cry with eyes like those.
"" This circumstance was oddly parallel to her marriage. She was rushing in again and wasn't entirely sure how to stop herself.
"[If you think...]" No. He'd left the decision up to her. She nodded once firmly. Yep. She was rushing in again. She had his full support, though. That meant that she could do anything. Even take home a ten year old as a souvenir.
"He said that we are going to start looking at way to take you home with us, Jude."

Many, many, MANY pieces of paper later, Maya had learned the French word for "sign here." Sebastian had to be the one reading everything over. There were calls made to embassies and enough red tape to make even Maya impatient. Jude's impatience was a give in. Especially given the mandatory waiting period while the government established that Maya and Sebastian weren't terrorists... or... something like that.
"The waiting period isn't long. We'll be in New York before you know it." Maya smoothed Jude's hair back from his eyes. He needed a hair cut. It was like they had stopped caring for him once they knew someone else was signing up for the job.
"I remember New York. I remember it from you remembering it. I want to see it for myself." He bounced on the balls of his feet. Keeping a ten year old was one thing. Keeping a ten year old that had already experienced ten more years of life than he should have was going to make this a whole different kind of relationship.
A series of chimes sounded in Sebastian's pocket. The embassy again? Ghost watched his face as he answered. No. Not the embassy.

He couldn't believe the voice on the other end of the line, not the first time. “Now?” Slate apparently needed their help, sooner rather than later. Sebastian had been reading the newspapers, and things had been getting steadily worse over in Romania, but he had thought the Kabal was able to handle it. He thought they had planned for every eventuality. Apparently he was wrong. He was needed, as soon as possible.
He looked up at Maya as he hung up the phone. He was wearing his serious face.
“That was work. There's some sort of emergency, and they need us immediately if not sooner.” He sniffled; the cooler weather was taking care of some of the allergens, but not all.
Jude interrupted, “Will I come with now?”
Sebastian's frown deepened and he shook his head, “I'm afraid that the waiting period isn't over yet.” Not to mention that it would be extremely dangerous to take a child into Romania right now. “We will be back, though, to pick you up and take you home in a few weeks. Can you tough it out that long? I think your friends would appreciate a little more time with you before we spirit you away to a new life. Non?”
Sebastian watched the ten year old's face as he considered, “Write to me while you are gone,” he finally demanded.
Oh dear.
“Of course,” the unicorn man smiled and ruffled the boy's hair, “but you forgot to say please.”
