Character[/b]
Personality: (How you character behaves, social tendencies, quirks, etc.) Riley could be a case study in learning things the hard way. Because of the things that have happened to her since coming to New York, she’s a master of hiding exactly what it is she’s actually feeling. She’s warm and open and friendly to people she trusts, but they are few and far in between. To most people she comes across as very….worldly…and to some extent she is. Underneath the surface though, she’s an absolutely hopeless romantic.
Hobbies/ Interests: Reading, Riley LOVES to read, and she’ll read almost anything. When she’s in public, Riley usually carries around one non-fiction book or another, with varying subjects. At home, she’s got a very well read stash of romance novels that she keeps stashed under her bed.
Job or part time job and description: (if applicable) Riley is a tried and true pin-up model, in some of the skeezier circles of pin-up modeling around the city. It’s a rough business, and it’s left its mark, but she works at staying above it all.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Riley doesn’t trust men, not at all. It’s not exactly a phobia, but she’s been treated roughly in the past, and grew up in a single-mother home. Men haven’t ever given her a good reason to trust them, so she has a tendency to keep the at arm’s length.
Special talents: (not related to mutation) None, she loves to sing in the shower though.
Morality[/b]
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: (please explain) Neutral. Having gone to the school of hard knocks in New York City, Riley isn’t afraid to do what she has to do to make it. In most situations, she’ll do the right thing, but there have been times when she’s done bad things.
Mutations[/b]
Mutation description: Adapataion
Strengths: Riley is capable of nullifying mutant powers within a 4ft radius of wherever she is. Any effects of the mutation/products of the mutation cease to work.
Weaknesses: Postivie mutation effects do not work on Riley any better than negative ones do. No healing, or anything else that could be benefiical in other circumstances.
Fighting Style (if applicable)[/b]
Explanation: Riley will fight with hands, fists, nails, teeth, and whatever else it takes. She’s got absolutely no formal training.
History Of Your Character:[/b]
Riley was born in a suburb of Chicago in the mid 80’s to a single mother who honestly didn’t know who the father of her baby was. Riley’s mother, Jeneane, was a loving woman and did everything in her power to bring her daughter up in a positive environment despite her affinity for a faster life than most would have considered appropriate for a single mother. Riley grew up well adjusted, but thoroughly aware of the ways of the world from an early age.
Decent in school, but anything but a Rhode’s Scholar, Riley did some modeling after winning a contest her senior year in high school and decided that modeling was what she wanted to do more than anything in the world. Moving out of her mother’s house soon after graduating from high school and working a series of minimum-wage odd jobs while she tried to get into the industry, Riley soon decided that Chicago was not the place for her career to blossom and she left for New York City, the modeling capital of the country.
Things didn’t improve for Riley once she was in New York, and after a series of interviews and rejections, she found herself practically living on the streets and running with a bad crowd. Through some of that crowd, Riley met a couple of “talent agents” for some of the less savory modeling companies in the city. Managing to stay out of the adult industry was difficult, but Riley persevered and has been making her living in the pin-up industry for the past three years.
Life has been rough those three years, but Riley still manages to keep a positive attitude most of the time. She has her own little apartment and her books, and a very small, close circle of friends that she met after getting out of some of the really bad things she’d been into.
As far as her adaptation is concerned,. when Riley was acted upon by a power that activated her adaptation is unknown, but she discovered exactly what she could do on a photoshoot. The competition in this particular shoot was less than friendly and Riley found herself competing against a woman that could have walked right out of the pages of a 1950’s pin-up magazine. The woman was anything but nice, but kept her distance throughout the day, smiping and making comments she was sure would get back to Riley. Things progressed, and Riley finally confroted the woman about her attitude. As soon as she came within arm’s reach, the woman’s appearance changed drastically, into something that definitely didn’t fit into the outfit that had been strutting around the studio the entire day. The woman was a shape shifter, and with her secret out, she became enraged. A fight ensued and it wasn’t until later after a few more similar incidents, that Riley realized what it was she could do.
Assuming that she was a mutant, Riley had her blood tested during the Registration Act and found out that she was, in fact, nothing of the sort. It was confusing, but considering the horrors she heard coming out of the camps, Riley kept her mouth shut and has simply tried to continue on with her life.

“What are you looking at?!” Riley snapped as she clicked her way down the sidewalk in heels that should have simply been too tall to walk in. They’d definitely taken some practice to get used to, but she had it down to a science by this point. One of the other “models” had snatched her clothes during the photoshoot and the best the photographer had been able to do was a trench coat that was barely longer than the hemline of the nighty she’d been wearing for the shoot. The bus ride had been hell on Earth, and the two blocks from the bus stop to her apartment buildng wasn’t proving to be much better.
Head held high, she fixed an icy blue stare at the next man she saw, absolutely daring him to say a word to her. With the heels on she was a good couple of inches taller than he and he kept his mouth shut. At least until she walked by. Finally, the oasis of her apartment building came into view, and Riley mounted the stairs with some difficulty, her feet were starting to really hurt. Luckily she’d kept her purse separate from her clothes and as she fished out her keys and opened the door to the foyer, Riley breathed a sigh of relief.
This wasn’t one of the fancy places that had a lobby or a consierge, and Riley clicked to the mailboxes, opening hers and pulling out the small stack of mail and bills that had amassed over the past few days. It was safe enough at this point for Riley to bend and kick off the heels one at a time and as she bent to pick them up by the ankle straps, she breathed a sigh of relief and headed for the stairs.
Into the little apartment she went, smiling at the simple and pretty decorations that she’d gathered over the past couple of years. Nobody who knew her outside of this building would have known it, and that’s exactly how Riley wanted it. It didn’t take long to get out of the lingerie she’d been modeling at the photo shoot and into a pair of dumpy sweat pants and a hoodie. Riley mused over what it would be like if she showed up to a shoot dressed like that as she pulled her hair into a messy pony tail and scrubbed at her face to get rid of the pounds of make-up.
Once that was accomplished, the brunette made her way to the kitchen for a cup of hot chocolate, then back into her bedroom to pull a well-worn foot locker from under the bed. The padlock was unlocked, the lid was thrown back, and a few minutes of shuffling followed as Riley decided exactly what her poison for the night was going to be. Finally deciding and climbing into the bed, Riley pushed back the sleeves of her hoodie and reached into the top drawer of the bedside stand, extracting a small pouch and pulling out….a pair of reading glasses.
Settling back against her pillows, which were far more frilly than she ever would have admitted, Riley sighed happily and opened the book, All My Heart’s Desires. The binding was almost worn out, and the cover was holding on by a few well worn edges, but it had been a rough day. This was definitely what Riley needed.
