The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

If her father was a recovering mutant hater, he was certainly doing a good job of turning over a new leaf. The comment about Sebastian's horn being permanent had perhaps been a clue to his old anti-mutant ways, but it had seemed that what he really had been opposed to at the time was not Sebastian's status as a horned mutant healer, but his status as his daughter's new fiance.
It was easy to see how a relationship could get rocky in such a situation where one or both parties neglected to share important information with one another. It would be easy to point fingers of blame, to suggest that she shouldn't have hidden something so important from the one person she should have been able to trust. It would be easy to think that maybe she had made a poor choice of husbands. But marriage was more complicated than that, as was illustrated in the situation of Sebastian and Ghost.
At least they were starting out on the right foot, communicating and getting on the same page.
>>>"I would like that very much."
Sebastian's shy smile broadened as she ducked and blushed, kicked her feet and said that she still wanted to try to be a good wife.
"Of course you can," not that he needed her permission or anything. "Being busy is alright, we should still be able to find time to spend together and still have time for all the other people in our lives too. And if things get too hectic, there is nothing wring with taking a few days off from everything to rest."
>>>"So when is the hearing?"
He hadn't checked the date when he read the letter, or rather he had read the date twice but it hadn't fully registered as a real day at the time. He reached into his jacket and removed the letter from the inner pocket where he had placed it, opened it, and read it again.
"We have just over two weeks."
That was not very far away at all. Could they plan a wedding in two weeks? It would depend on how elaborate it was, he supposed.
"Is there anyone in particular you'd like to invite?"
"Invite?" It was clear from her tone that she had not actually thought that far ahead. Two weeks was plenty of time to get her affairs in order to take a day off or so from the store. She had been worried that it might be the coming monday morning or something.
"I thought we'd just go down to the courthouse." It wasn't like she was trying to hide him. She just honestly hadn't thought of her friends and what their reaction might be if she showed up the next day to work married. Would they even be able to tell just by looking?
"Are we doing rings?" If Sebastian was as serious about all this as he sounded, they more than likely would. She wondered where to go about procuring a ring and what size he might wear. A ring somehow made it more real. "So this will be a real marriage..." Sebastian had made it sort of sound like a contract. Well, it was... but he'd made it sound sort of open ended?
It wasn't like she had plans to date anyone any time soon. She'd probably only dated two people in her life ever and that was including the great disappearing Garrett. And now she was sort of skipping the dating phase and going straight for the gold with Sebastian. Her dad had adjusted well because he'd assumed that he'd been away during some epic romance, no doubt. What would everyone else say?
And there were lots of things to consider about a wedding. Flowers and sitting arrangements and dancing... "A wedding will get complicated rather quickly. If you would like one, maybe we can have it at the Mansion? Then it would be easier to invite everyone from there including the children."
And then it dawned on her... "If we get married-married, I have to wear a dress." Suddenly two weeks seemed too short a time to cram everything in.

'Real marriage' and 'married-married'? He hadn't realized that there was an alternative to the normal type of marriage.
“The courthouse is where you have to do to be legally married, right? So, for this hearing all we would have to do is go there and get the appropriate paperwork filled out and we would be married in the eyes of the country,” paperwork seemed to be the answer to everything involving the government. It was a miracle there were any forests at all left in the New World.
“I would guess that you have some friends and family members that would probably like to be included in the plans for a marriage. Families and friends tend to get like that. I don't want it to seem like I am stealing you away from them or anything. Perhaps a more traditional ceremony at the mansion later on would work? It wouldn't have to be anything fancy, but I think your father at least had his heart set on walking you down some sort of aisle.” It was a father's right.
“You don't have to wear a dress if you don't want to. What you wear is your choice. That's the fun part of a wedding, you get to be queen for a day and what you say goes. As for rings, I have a pair of rings already, if you'd like us to use them. They belonged to my son and his wife many years ago. Or we can get new ones that are more in tune with today's styles, whichever you prefer.” He hadn't considered not doing rings as an option. They were tradition long before wearing white dresses and veils, dating back to the days of the Romans. Not using rings just didn't occur to him.
"I'm not sure if the courthouse is where to go or what, but I know the store has books on the matter. I'll do my homework and get us a marriage license. If I need you for any of that I'll leave a message on your pager." She was pretty sure she could get the paperwork done herself since the whole reason they were in this was Sebastian's entire lack of paperwork.
She mulled over the people who would more than likely want to be invited. They would almost certainly have to run the store on a skeleton crew. "Honestly something quiet seems better than all kinds of hullabaloo." But then again her dad had already dictated that there would be an aisle since he was determined to walk her down it.
"I'll have to ask Sam about using the Mansion, but I'm sure it'll be fine." Wow. She was going to need a checklist or something. Nothing had happened yet and she already had a long list of things to worry about.
"I wouldn't know what to wear if not a dress. You don't happen to have any of those laying around along with the rings do you?" She looked at her bare hands. A ring. Weren't girls supposed to day dream about their ideal diamond or something? "I'm sure what you have is fine if that isn't weird for you..." Would it be weird for her? She'd have to think on it. There was a lot to think on.
"I'd like to see it before I say yea or nay, though. If that is alright." She hugged her knees. What else went into a wedding? Honeymoon? Mmmm... maybe after they were married-married she could worry about that.
"When will the clinic open? Do you have a date yet?"

Once again Ghost rescued him from paperwork. Sebastian felt a little bad relying on her to do everything, but he honestly didn't know where to begin looking for most things. That left him in charge of details like ... a dress?
“The closest thing I have to a dress in my trunk is a dressing robe and I don't think that is what you are looking for. I think the rings are in there. It will just take me a few moments to find the box they are in.”
He stood and made his way to the trunk that was in the bedroom, still visible from the doorway. It was a rather large trunk and rings were rather small objects, but if he remembered correctly, they were in a cloth pouch tucked into a larger box of small belongings: trinkets, cuff links, and two or three box ties, to name a few of the items he could remember off the top of his head.
“We were thinking we'd be ready in about four weeks. We've just begun to make plans for a mid September opening reception around then. We're very close to getting everything done that needs to be done.”
He rummaged as he spoke, trying not to get absolutely everything unfolded as he dug all the way to the bottom. There was the box, and inside it the little pouch with the rings. He sighed, relieved; he had remembered correctly and wouldn't have to try and hunt them down on another country over the phone.
“Here, I've found them.” He shook both rings out of the bag and into his palm as he took his seat next to Ghost on the couch once again. He held them out for her inspection; a coordinating pair of Victorian period gold filigree rings. Inside the bands were inscribed the names of the former owners and the date they were married: Everett and Rose, 6 May 1845.
The sardonic tone and the frenetic guitar strumming of the Violent Femmes blasted out of the speakers of the new Suburban. Garrett had just picked it up from the detail shop, having a few extras added to it after he had purchased it the week prior. Most notably was the white and orange oscillating light bar atop the large utility vehicle. All but the front seats had been removed, the back of the vehicle having been replaced with two benches along each side, with compartments under the bench seats for emergency equipment. Some special touches had also been added at Garrett's request, including a stenciled Iris Clinic logo along the sides and back of the vehicle, as well as the words CINILC SIRI along the front hood, for those with rearview mirrors to see them coming should the lights not do the trick.
He pulled in to the back of the Clinic, having found that the alley could be blocked as long as the dumpster was still accessible to the sanitation department. In the mutant world, alleys were always safer than the street as well as being convenient for not being blocked or having to move on different road sweeping days. He sat for a moment, having turned the engine off, listening to the xylophone/guitar madness of 'Gone Daddy Gone'. Doors locked, alarm set with a cricket chirp, Garrett made his way up the back stairs and toward home. Voices could be heard from he and Sebastian's apartment, as the otherwise emptiness of the building made it seem more lively. He looked forward to delivering his news of the Clinic's new vehicle to Sebastian..and Maya, who seemed to be the other voice in the room.
He waited outside the door briefly, the sounds fairly muffled and restrained inside. He was getting over Maya more and more, but seeing the two snuggled up like he could have once been wasn't something he wanted to just stumble on to. He fumbled with his keys, knowing fully well that the door was unlocked, even dropping them for a jarring clang of announcement before opening the door. Maya or not, it was general bachelor ettiquette to give a little warning.
Opening the door, various emotions flashed through Garrett's heart and mind. To all observers, short of the most obtuse, Sebastian was displaying what appeared to be rings to Maya. Any initial reaction for the body to produce adrenaline or butterflies was quelled by his nervous system, which he was becoming more intimate with by the day. He displayed a fairly genuine smile, which had lost its zest for urgency, as it seemed matters of greater import were occurring in the apartment now than a vehicle for the Clinic. " Hey Sebastian. Maya. What are you two up to?" The door lingered open behind him, doorknob still in tentative grasp. " Is this something I should be intruding on?"
She nearly called out to let Garrett know the door was open. Nearly. She was quite distracted by Sebastian's voice and counting on her fingers. 4 weeks. Oh and he found them? He was keeping the rings here? And there they were. They tumbled out of a delicate little bag and bounced into his palm. Little intricate things that were quite handsome and that much more distracting.
"Hey Sebastian. Maya. What are you two up to?" But this wasn't the time to be distracted. She'd been thinking about Garrett a lot today and it was almost as if somehow her thoughts had summoned him.
She asked quietly for permission before picking the diamond band up and running her finger over the inscription inside. Maya actually opened her mouth to tell Garrett that nothing special was happening. Yep. Just regular old gettin' hitched. But there was something a little wrong about a flat denial of this day's remarkableness.
"Checking out the family history. Aren't they elaborate?"
Ghost slipped the ring on her finger and it drooped sadly, the diamond too heavy and the ring at least one size too large. Well, not everything was a perfect fit the first time around.
"Is this something I should be intruding on?"[/color] She looked up then. His hand on the door knob, his feet hardly past the threshold.
"It's your party Garrett. I don't want to be Yoko. And I don't want to take away from the Clinic opening either." She slipped the ring off and turned it around in her hand again before depositing it in Sebastian's hand. "I do like it. You're sure Rose and Everett wouldn't mind?" Her knees slid down to the couch back as she turned to better welcome the wayward Garrett. "Come in. Really. It's your home."

In all truth, Sebastian hadn't considered what Garrett's reaction might be to a marriage between Ghost and himself until he heard his roommate drop his keys outside the door. Everything had happened so quickly today that he hadn't even quite figured out how he felt about it himself.
How would his roommate react to the possibility of having a woman around the apartment, and how would he react if that woman was Ghost? They had known each longer than Sebastian had really known either of them, and he hadn't asked about the exact nature of their previous relationship. This might be just as big a change for Garrett as it was for the two of them.
Ghost didn't give an entirely complete answer to the question of what they were up to, though her answer was truthful. Nevertheless, the uncertain way Garrett hovered in the doorway seemed to indicate that he had figured out the other part himself.
He had as much right to be here as they did and the two white haired affianced had nothing to hide, he may as well come in as Ghost had suggested. Furthermore, what was happening here would affect him, too. Sebastian had no qualms about sharing the newest development in his life with his friend.
"Yes, come in," he agreed with Ghost's sentiments and added a sincere smile, "Make yourself comfortable." There was room on the couch yet for another person, or there were kitchen chairs available not far away if he wanted to take a seat.
It was clear the rings would have to be resized. He already knew without trying it on that Everett's ring was too big for his own finger. The boy had grown into a man taller than his father and with larger fingers to match.
To Ghost's query he replied, "I think they would be honored to see them in use again."
Wishes of welcome , while inundated with the emotion prior to nervous laughter, poured in Garrett's direction, so there was little reason to linger at the doorstep like a pauper. The two of them were peas in a pod, both welcoming him in as if he were a family friend from out of town. It was hokey and quite bizarre. Maya's eyes gleamed to the tint of the diamonds as she gingerly passed them back to the unicorn. A picture of quizzicality stuck to Garrett's face like a wet washcloth as he closed the door behind him.
"Family history? Sebastian's? I'd be interested to hear about that." He brushed off the seeming cue to take a seat next to the pair, opting to grab one of the sturdy kitchen chairs and bring it back into the living room with him. Twirling it in his hand so that the back of it faced them, he straddled the thing and leaned in on crossed arms, resting on its back. " For a moment there, I could have sworn that you two were about to get hitched. I had the idea you were an item, but Maya getting married so soon is not nearly as odd as her getting married at all would be." He chuckled and delivered a wink of irony in her direction.
" I have news of my own to share. " He smiled a toothy grin and fished his keys from his pocket. They were much fuller now, weighty with fresh vehicle keys. He turned his attention to his friend and partner."I thought of a good way to spend that blood money. I bought a vehicle for the clinic. I've actually had it for a few days, but I wanted to wait until I got the detail work done on it before you saw it. Maybe we should check it out soon." While not nearly as sparkly as diamonds, the keys did twinkle under the overhead bulb to a lesser degree.
"For a moment there, I could have sworn that you two were about to get hitched..." He didn't even stop there. Maya coughed into her fist. Caught in the act? Who? Me?
It was good news about a vehicle. She supposed that it would be quite useful for their field and the keys he jangled reminded her of her own massive set. "I think you guys qualify as real business owners now." She fished her own keys out of her pocket. A ridiculous amount of locks went into a property. And each lock needed a key.
"Oh. Speaking of... I have your old room key from the Mansion. I-uh... I know you left it, but I just didn't want them to give the room away. Guess you really won't need that now." Garrett was well taken care of here. That was plain to see. Maya busied herself picking through her keys to figure out which was the one she had meant to return to him. Though now... well, she really just might have to turn it back in to the Mansion for room recycling.
"Also... we really are getting married. In the next two weeks." There it was. She fiddled with the key ring pinching and pulling as necessary to free the piece of metal. "Would you like to show off your clinic vehicle?" She was more than wiling to check it out. The key was freed and sat heavily in her hand. "Are you positive that you want me to turn this in for you?"
"If you truly are interested, I'd be glad to regale you with stories of the family history at some point. I warn you though, it is a long history."
Now he wasn't certain if Garrett had realized what was going on. He seemed to have grasped the situation at first, but was playing it off lightly. Sebastian gave Ghost a questioning look as Garrett retreated to the kitchen for a chair. The man was back in a moment and finally made things clear.
>>>" For a moment there, I could have sworn that you two were about to get hitched. I had the idea you were an item, but Maya getting married so soon is not nearly as odd as her getting married at all would be."
Ah, so he had dismissed his own correct guess as outlandish. Apparently Ghost, or Maya as Garrett and her father called her, was not someone anyone expected to be the marrying type. She had said herself that she had never expected to get married and Garrett seemed to agree. Now, how to go about correcting Garrett's assumption when he had already started describing the new vehicle he had purchased for the clinic. Sebastian's tail wrapped itself around his ankle and slowly unwrapped again, its own form of fidgeting.
Also, had he really thought they were an 'item'? Was he such a good judge of character that he could those things about people before they even knew themselves Or was Sebastian himself just so blind to have missed something obvious?
Ghost did her fidgeting with keys. She had one to give back to Garrett. Tail fidget. Key fidget.
And then she blurted it out. Really, it was better to have it out there then to fidget around it all day. Secrets made things more awkward than full disclosure ever did. Did he need to add anything to that explanation, probably.
"It's true. Things got a little rushed when we found out I might get deported." Rushed being an understatement of great magnitude. They had even skipped over dating.
"I also would like to see the vehicle, at some point." He would understand if now was not the best time, considering the circumstances. "It seems like a very fitting thing to do with ill gotten gains to use it to help people."
"If you truly are interested, I'd be glad to regale you with stories of the family history at some point. I warn you though, it is a long history." Garrett smiled serenely at his partner. " Well, it isn't as if the Clinic phone is ringing off the hook. I enjoy a good story." His eyes turned back to Maya, who was fidgeting about with keys."I think you guys qualify as real business owners now. Speaking of... I have your old room key from the Mansion. I-uh... I know you left it, but I just didn't want them to give the room away. Guess you really won't need that now." Garrett was finding surprise after surprise lurking and yet he felt nothing of it. Perhaps it was the residual nerve manipulation.
His long fingers gingerly plucked the key from her hand and began to work the ring that held the keys, adding it to his own increasing bundle. Not nearly as bulky and impressive as the store owner's, but a good start. "I had never considered such a thing. You really care about me, Maya. As if your presence as my friend after so much didn't say so. I'd love to keep the room. I can use it when I visit the Mansion and stay over. I plan to go to medical school again. Well, you know what I mean. So I will be seeing lots of DocProf. I also want to practice martial arts again, so perhaps I can use the Danger Room?" That was a big perhaps, but one of the senior X-Men was just the person to ask.
"Also... we really are getting married. In the next two weeks." In near synchronicity, Sebastian added to the statement."It's true. Things got a little rushed when we found out I might get deported." It really floored Garrett. Not the fact that his only true love was getting married to his new best friend. Not that their demeanor was one of matter of fact rather than excitement. No, the thing that got him was how much could be missed in the time he had been gone. Had he been so wrapped up in his quest for power that he had missed another future? He took a deep breath as his mind tried to sort it all out."Why would you be deported? You aren't a citizen? Where are you from?" Garrett rubbed his eyes as the old static tried to get a foothold in his cerebral cortex.
He shook the cobwebs free." Anyway, the truck is out back. I took some liberties with our logo, I hope you like it. I need a drink." A stiff one.
He actually took the key. She was a little surprised. Maya was all ready to give it back for room recycling. It made her feel a little less silly about keeping it for so many months. And he actually took the marriage news in relatively good stride. Maybe he really was moving on. Ghost pat Sebastian's knee and pulled her legs out from underneath herself to plant her feet on the ground, one at a time.
"Well, Sebastian doesn't exactly come pre-packaged with a lot of paperwork. To the batmobile?" She stood and stretched. Nothing huge but there were a lot of large ideas being tossed around here. Marriage, Garrett returning to the Mansion, a clinic opening complete with vehicular finesse? Things were all starting to fall in place.

Garrett took a deep breath, obviously surprised that they really were getting married. It was difficult to tell what other emotions were mixed into that surprise. Was this just a sample of all the reactions they would be getting from all of their respective friends when they told them about their upcoming union?
>>>"Why would you be deported? You aren't a citizen? Where are you from?"
“That's part of the long story,” he'd do his best to sum up the major details the best he could. He didn't know what a 'batmobile' was exactly, but Ghost seemed to mean the new vehicle. He could walk and talk if they could walk and listen. But first, “What would you like to drink, Garrett? Ghost, anything for you? We have red wine, scotch, orange juice, and a soda called Sprite.” He headed to the kitchen to take out glasses and pour whatever it was the others were thirsty for. He helped himself to a glass of water which he carried out with him as they headed downstairs to look at the new vehicle.
“To answer your questions, I am not a citizen. I'm originally from Greece, but I have lived all over Europe and Asia. Up until almost two years ago I was staying in Siam... or Thailand,” he corrected himself. “I came here during the tail end of Registration, so I mostly kept my head low when I first got here. I suppose the government decided I have been here long enough for someone who was originally supposed to be visiting a friend.” He was somewhat proud that he had been able to fit in well enough with the culture here that Garrett hadn't even realized he wasn't a citizen. It meant he was doing a good job of picking up on the culture and dialect of New York.
Sebastian led the way down the stairs and out to the alley. His arm was, of course, available for aiding anyone who needed it on the steep staircase, “Ghost is right about me being a little short on the paperwork side. I haven't got a birth certificate or any proof of my original nationality because it has been so long since I was there and I was born before they did that kind of thing. I am essentially without country, but this one was just starting to feel like home.”
It was then that he saw the vehicle Garrett had purchased for them. He couldn't keep from grinning like a child opening midwinter gifts. The vehicle was a large one with plenty of room in the back, lights on the top for visibility, and a custom paint job displaying a violet colored iris logo. It looked so official.
“I love the iris. It looks perfect. May we see the inside as well?” He wasn't quite bouncing with excitement, but he did roll forward and back on his feet once and swish his tail while he waited for his roommate to show off the interior.
Everyone was standing and moving, so Garrett stood as well. It was just as well not to linger on things and be morose. This marriage was an event that would be occurring regardless of his feelings, which were out to lunch at the moment. As he rose, he felt a slight wave of nausea, as if something was off in his body. He had forgotten to release the control he had asserted upon himself when he entered. Billions of neural messages had been rerouted or halted altogether, which was beginning to create a swell of woe within him as the body became severely confused. Upon release of his grip on himself, a rush of endorphins came in a flush of heat to his face and a giddy feeling in his gut. He restrained himself emotionally not to laugh, as his reactions and appearance were no doubt confusing enough to the other two.
"Scotch please." He watched the elixir pour over a few ice cubes and he smiled and nodded a gesture of thanks to his horned accomplice. Garrett swished the concoction around in the glass a few times before having a hearty sip of the stuff, which seemed to rush in, high fiving the nerves that had been holding their breath. Euphoria commenced and all was right with the world.“To answer your questions, I am not a citizen. I'm originally from Greece, but I have lived all over Europe and Asia. Up until almost two years ago I was staying in Siam... or Thailand,” he corrected himself. “I came here during the tail end of Registration, so I mostly kept my head low when I first got here. I suppose the government decided I have been here long enough for someone who was originally supposed to be visiting a friend.”
The stairs were navigated and the sensation of the three of them being old compatriots settled in. He liked the idea that perhaps they were linked karmically and the stream had brought them together again, like leaves from the same branch. So many places around the world. Sebastian was a mysterious man, it seemed. It made Garrett's lack of knowledge of him a bit less disconcerting."Ghost is right about me being a little short on the paperwork side. I haven't got a birth certificate or any proof of my original nationality because it has been so long since I was there and I was born before they did that kind of thing. I am essentially without country, but this one was just starting to feel like home.” They made their way out to the back where the vehicle was parked as the statement settled in Garrett's mind as the alcohol settled in his stomach.
The look of genuine excitement crossed Sebastian's features as he saw the vehicle. Garrett had spent alot of time preparing the vehicle and was glad that he could assist in the Clinic's future. Still, something was dogging him. Another glug of scotch went down his gullet, mostly to soften his brain for the answer he may receive to his next question." What do you mean you were born before birth certificates? How old are you?" He opened the back of the Suburban, a flourish of the hand showing the ample room inside.
