The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

As soon as Aleksei saw the look on Tris' face he knew that he had crossed a line. Frustration, annoyance and even a slight pinch of anger flashed over her features. Aleksei was both surprised and slightly confused by her reaction. While it was true he had been a little vague, it wasn't like he had outright refused to answer. Weren't they here to discuss what was going to happen on the mission?
"Sorry.... I just like to have all my facts in order before considering the theft of....... what painting did you say Slate wanted again?
And there it was. Finally understanding what he had done to turn her so suddenly hostile, Aleksei rubbed his eyes in a gesture of slight frustration. This whole conversation he had been under the impression that she was going with him. But in truth she wasn't deciding what to do once they started the mission, she was deciding whether to go or not.
The realization of why they were really having this conversation revealed several things to Aleksei. First, it revealed that Tris only obeyed Slate when she wanted. Secondly it meant she was cautious about what missions she took, and who she took them with. Lastly Aleksei realized it would be best not to underestimate her.
Looking somewhat appologetic, Aleksei steepled his fingers and formulated his reply. "I... am sorry. My social skills can be somewhat lacking, and I fear I may have been a bit arrogant. You do, of course, deserve to know everything before you decide to take on this mission."
Switching his face and voice to a more informative tone, Aleksei continued. "The painting is the Mona Lisa. A theft of no small magnitude. As for myself, I have been a mercenary for some years. I have set up several thefts similar to this before, and my skills are not limited to non-violant areas either. I also speak French, if not without an accent. If you wish to know more simply ask."
"Ahh yes, and that power of yours?" Alekseis last comment was not quite a demand, but he did expect an answer. If he was going to give away all of his information, Tris was too. After all, even Tris couldn't argue that that was fair.
...Well Tris could now be reasonably certain Aleksei wasn't a Buffy fan, from his confused and almost troubled reaction to her paraphrased quote.
But since that paraphrased quote had gone abit wide, she accidentally overshooting the sarcastic tone she'd been going for, landing on snarky and irritated instead, it might just be understandable. But well, he had been being annoying and her remark had seemed to jolt him into giving an actual straight answer for once, so apparently congratulations were in order to her on a job well done. All that work for a straight answer. Worth it? It would turn out- yes. Plus he was certainly looking abit more wary of her and her opinion, so that was fun. But note to self: try not get so flash fire annoyed at stuff (it was happening alot more lately), hard with her anger directed powers, but she was supposed to be trying for self control for goodness sake. But anyway....to focus on the now....
An apologetic Aleksei with steeled fingers spoke once more; "I... am sorry. My social skills can be somewhat lacking, and I fear I may have been a bit arrogant. You do, of course, deserve to know everything before you decide to take on this mission."
And, with the voice and temperament of one who would likely ace any interview he went to, Tris's strange, new acquaintance continued with the information presentation, all calm and cool and collected. "The painting is the Mona Lisa. A theft of no small magnitude. As for myself, I have been a mercenary for some years. I have set up several thefts similar to this before, and my skills are not limited to non-violant areas either. I also speak French, if not without an accent. If you wish to know more simply ask."
...Tris however, while glad she'd insisted on hearing all the detail, was decidedly less calm, her eyes not concealing their suprised look, her expression complimenting the gasp that escaped her lips. "The Mona Lisa, that's...... wow, that's definitely.....a challenge...." Tris trailed off as the tinglings of nervous excitement and antsy anticipation began to make themselves known to Tris's mind as she silently considered the pros and cons of her on such a heist.
Her revelry was broken as the conversation turned back to her. Question time for the lady of the house was here again.
"Ahh yes, and that power of yours?"
While Tris would admit to certain hypocritical actions in her time, she did feel this new truth telling Aleksei deserved a bit more than the vagueness she usually loved in avoiding answering just this question. Instead a quite genuine smile spread across her suddenly a lot more sunny features; "Ahhh yes, those." She began in acknowledgment of Aleksei's question, but said no more for a time, instead casting her gaze across the room, finally coming to rest on the low coffee table near the couch which held a vase with a beautiful arrangement of flowers in it. Well, she'd always been better at show than tell, so instead of a tedious and detailed explanation, Tris decided a performance was in order, so leaning forward she gasped the bunch of greenery firmly, dragging it out of its watery bed and suddenly flinging the flowers up towards the ceiling, the up ended stems showering them both with droplets of water. Up, up, and away went the bunch of flower, turning end over end through their many arcs, before gravity began to take hold and a green, leafy, petaled, wet mess threatened to descend on the two seated people. Until, with a barely noticeable doubled handed flick of Tris's fingers, and barely a sound, the multicolored, falling mass suddenly wasn't there anymore, instead a slight fluttering of dusty ash was all that was left in the former bouquets wake. A silent, soundless de-bonding of the molecules that made up the flora as a disappearing demonstration- cool huh.
Tris glanced sideways at Aleksei to gauge his reaction with a cheeky grin on her face. And speaking of disappearing acts, she might as well give her maybe future business partner the full show. So, with another low double handed flick of her hands and a good deal of concentration (this side of her abilities still needed fine tuning), Tris's mind reached out and formed a connection with every molecule that made up Aleksei's body, commanding them to slow and stop, the familiar result of which was the body of one glass manipulator had ceased movement, unaware of the time passing by. In this time, Tris unfolded herself from the couch, walking behind the seat to lean herself over the back of the couch over the frozen Aleksei's left shoulder. Leaning in to direct her words in his ear, Tris consciously released her control of molecular movement and waited for Aleksei to realize where she was. "Well they might come in handy." she allowed, somewhat modestly, taking up the rest of the conversation she'd started about her powers.
"The Mona Lisa, that's...... wow, that's definitely.....a challenge...."
Aleksei simply nodded soberly at her. While the mission didn't bother him in the slightest, (other than being a particularly challenging one) he completely understood why other people would have serious reservations about undertaking it. He wasn't sure what Tris was thinking, but from her tone and her attitude he was pretty sure that she still hadn't decided on the mission just yet. After giving her a few moments, Aleksei inquired about her powers.
"Ahhh yes, those."
Aleksei watched patiently as Tris took his own tack and decided to show him her powers, rather than attempt to describe them. He raised an eyebrow at her when she flung the flowers up into the air. And then when they fell back down he started to raise his hand as if to catch them before they touched down. And then they weren't there. In a split second they simply were gone other than some remnants of dust. Realizing how silly he looked with a hand raised to catch the now non-existant flowers, Aleksei quickly dropped it.
"Simply amazing." He said, his face showing every sign of meaning it. In truth he hadn't seen something that cool in a long time. It was an odd feeling to not be the only one with a cool talent. Indeed, he mused, hers was even more dangerous than his own. More specialized, but definately dangerous.
Seeing a new look come onto her face, Aleksei sensed she wasn't done showing off. Thats not all she has to offer? He wondered silently to himself. He had been about to say something when she simply wasn't there anymore. In a slight panic he spun his head trying to find her. Just when he cought sight of her behind him, she spoke.
"Well they might come in handy."
He was so surprised he nearly fell off of the couch, only managing to catch himself at the last second. Indeed, he gave a slight yelp of surprise and the look on his face was one of pure amazement. As soon as he managed to speak, he stammered out "How did you do that? I've got to know how! Did you freeze me? Or did you stop time? Teleport? C'mon, I've got to know!" Realizing that he was babbling like a schoolboy, Aleksei managed to calm himself down. Standing to his feet, Aleksei turned to face her directly waving his hand as if to brush aside his questions. "There will be plenty of time for explanations later. Look, I know this must seem crazy. I just show up and ask you to steal the Mona Lisa? I know I would be pretty negative about the whole thing. But give the mission a try. If it looks like we can't do it, we can just drop the whole thing. Besides you never know, I might actually be tolerable company."
Aleksei had begun the conversation only caring slightly for the outcome of her decision. He had taken it for granted that she was coming, but her truly had cared little if she didn't. Still, he couldn't help but find her intriguing. He attitude and her looks made her attractive. But her powers? Now that made her downright interesting.
Subtle observation of Aleksei during her unusual performance proved he was like, the perfect audience of one. The cute quizzical brow furrowed as he watched the proceedings with avid interest, the reflex reaction of an arm raised to shield from something that suddenly wasn't there, his "Simply amazing", compliment of a trick done well, and best of all, the frantic search and gorgeous little yelp/jump combo when Tris was found where she hadn't been before. All this scrutiny and reaction certainly fanned the flames of the drama queen within Tris, she was having fun and actually glad she'd told Aleksei her powers- wow, gladness didn't happen often.
The babbling questions were cute too; "How did you do that? I've got to know how! Did you freeze me? Or did you stop time? Teleport? C'mon, I've got to know!"
Tris grinned in response, opening her mouth to explain the in's and outs of her gifts, but she was cut off before she'd begun with a wave of a hand.
Tris considered Aleksei's proposal with her head inclined slightly to the side- there was some true to what he said she supposed, and the job sounded like it could be fun, and even if they did get caught and sent to jail, Slate as the leader of the Kabal and therefore inheritor of Hunter's finances, had more money than God and could buy his people's way out of anything if he so chose.
So Tris took a deep breath and smiled; "You might just." she responded teasingly, "So I'll be an optimist and say why don't we give it a go." She held her hand out to Aleksei to seal their new partnership.
"So I'll be an optimist and say why don't we give it a go."
"Careful," Aleksei replied, "Optimism can be dangerous." He followed it up with a quick wink to show that he was kidding with her. After she offered her hand, Aleksei reached out and gave it a firm shake.
"Partners it is." He said with a smile on his face.
His smile continued as he motioned to the couch before sitting down along with Tris. The rest of the conversation was fairly meaningless pleasantries, with Aleksei neither inquiring further about Tris' powers nor giving away any useful information about himself.
Indeed, it wasn't long after the agreed partnership that a knock at the door ended their talk. "I'll get it on my way out." Aleksei offered, heading immediately for the door. Opening the door, he stood face to face with one Donny (evidenced by the nametag).
"Oh, good!" Aleksei said, grinning at Donny. "Look." He said, leaning forward as if giving him some advice. "With all of the excitement we have had Tris is a bit tuckered out. You might want to go easy." He then slapped Donny on the back and wandered off down the hallway chuckling to himself. Nothing was quite so funny as misleading a stranger.
