The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Predator nodded to Meld and Aura, wondering again who the robed man was. He soon inferred that he was a mutant, however, from Meld and Aura conversing. At the talk of torture, Predator felt an uncharactaristic twinge of sympathy for the animals. He had escaped, yes, but not before the little man had enough time to practice his nastiest forms of torture. Shaking the thoughts off, Predator walked closer to the man. When the man grabbed Meld, Predator's claws streaked towards the lower area of his back, though he stopped them a hair away from biting into flesh.
"I would step away. NOW."
With all of the man's talk of God, and sin and Lucifer, Predator soon realized that he was a human-hugger, another traitor to his own kind. Predator desired nothing more at that moment than to plunge his claws into the man's flesh, to rip and tear his body to bloody shreds. He restrained himself, however, as Aura spoke again.
"Why yes. You might have recognized my face from TV, Sir holy man. But what you didn't see on TV was the things they did to me before my friends got here. The things that these humans did to me. And you want to protect them!? No sir, it is you that will be torturing the humans if the coppers don't listen to us. And if you don't, we will torture and kill every one of the people here, and then I'm sure we could devise something between the three of us to make you beg for human blood. Oh yes." Predator's voice was filled with such relish, at the end, that it left no doubt that he would enjoy the upcoming events immensly.
"Aura," he said, turning away from the man, "Would you mind standing next to the door, so that you can communicate with the cops? With your Aura, you'll be able to survive long enough to get under cover if they open fire.

The robed mutant confused Meld. Why was he crying? He didn't even know the person that Aura had killed, or so she assumed. Had he been a friend then perhaps she could understand, even though now was hardly the time for tears, but a total stranger? Death happened. It was inevitable and it was the death of a human besides, no more serious then the death of a beloved pet. And even then, one would not be sad if the dog of a friend died only if your own dog died. And then he went on a rant, because she really couldn't call it anything else, about sin and god and religion and about the fact that mutants were not superior and Meld growled at him. Who did he think he was anyway and why did he think he had any right to lecture any of them? Then he grabbed Meld's arm and she growled in anger, flexing her claws. "If you do not remove your hand from my arm immediately your mutant status will not protect you from my claws," she told him, her voice low and sinister. She stepped away from him, dragging her captive with her.
It seemed to Meld that Aura didn't quite understand all of the references that the robed one was making, but despite that she appreciated her stepping up to her defense. In different situations and with different people she might have felt a lack of respect at the gesture, an intimation that she wasn't strong enough to take care of herself, but with Aura she felt a kinship and they worked well as a team. Aura stepped up to help her when needed and she did the same for her friend. She grinned at the suggestion that the robed one would have to choose who they tortured and killed if the police did not adhere to their commands. It would be a fitting punishment for his transgressions. Hopefully it would force him to reassess his motives and his loyalties.
"Now is not the time to rob them," Meld answered Aura after a moment's pause to consider. "We need to concentrate on getting out alive and back to the safety of Sanctuary. Robbing these humans would only prove a distraction and in this instance distraction could mean death."
Meld dragged her captive along after her, following Aura. If her friend decided to listen to Predator's advice then it would be best if she were right there with her, slightly behind so as to not be in the direct line of fire and hopefully with some small amount of protection from Aura's shield but still within site of the police. It would be necessary for them to both see and hear the fact that they were serious with their intents. She secured her grip on the captive with her metal arm, digging her claws slightly into her captive's neck in order to dissuade her from trying to escape and dug in her pocket with her other hand for her cell. She dialed 911 and waited for an answer. "What is the emergency?" the operator who answered asked.
"We are at the church on Main St and 15th Ave, surrounded by your police. We have at least 2 dozen captives. We demand to be put in contact with the officer in charge of this operation. If you do not comply we will start the torture and killing." She waited, knowing that they would be willing to talk because they really had no other choice.
"But... b-but why?" Aras' tears began to flow again. Why were these people so sadistic and foolish; no, not even foolish, mentally retarded to the point that a vegetable became a good converser compared to them. What sort of logic did they follow? And WHY were they so inclined to sin to prove such a mute logic? Was he dreaming? Could his mind be under some sort of hallucination? Was this all made up? Aras was distressed. Panicking, he turned to run after the two woman before running into the man again, this time his claws extended and aimed at his back, now his stomach. Aras was growing his depression into pure anger. His breathing became more and more heavy as his eyes, brown and covered in red from the tears and pain he was feeling inside of him. He stared directly into the eyes of the man, apparently named Predator, and cleared his throat.
"So... you were tortured, huh? Pain being brought upon you by those without true gifts of God? Them," he pointed at the others in the church, "apparently. Well fine. Point out the one that hurt you and I will redeem their sin. You think that just because I show compassion to another person it is WRONG? Well fine. Give me one person that hurt you in the past to me and I will avenge you sevenfold just as our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ told us to! You think I'm kidding?" Quickly Aras grabbed the arm of Predator and turned him towards the crowd. "See anyone that hurt you?" He slowly walks over to random people. "Did this lady do it? No? How about this man? Did this one make you suffer for your gifts? Did this one?" At that point he was screaming and grabbing people at random and throwing them down in anger, probably doing more damage than he wanted yet his mind could not calm him down. He was just too angered by their stupidity.
"You think you know pain? Try knowing your parents were gunned down simply because your father did what was right in putting a murderer to death. Try knowing that your sister may be out there yet you don't know where she is. And they were all human, from father to murderer. ALL human. The only thing you're proving is how EQUAL you can be? Do you WANT to be equal to those that hurt you; that put you through that suffering simply because of your gift? I would avenge you or them," he now points to the two woman by the doorway, one now communicating by phone, "or ANYONE in this Earth. You are not justifying anything by doing this. YOU'RE SIMPLY BEING SO DAMN IDIOTIC THAT YOU RIVAL THAT OF THOSE WHO OPPOSE YOU!!!"
Aras ran out of breath and fell to his knees. Crying and breathing heavily and angered, his hands fell to the marble floor. He looked up finally and sighed. "If you want me to prove my loyalty to your 'idea' than fine. I will play with your game and redeem the sins of these people here for your enjoyment. However, only I touch these people and go through with it. Deal?" He looked both forward and back at the three sinners. His breathing slowed down as he looked up toward the wall. There , a large golden cross picturing Jesus' crucifixion hung from the ceiling, His closed eyes seemingly looking down on Aras. His eyes swelled up again as he realized what he may be agreeing to. Forgive me, Father. I may be adhering to the Devil himself.
"I do not recall my parents, but i did watch my family gunned down by humans, really a fun thing to wake to" she said simply as she moved to the front of the church, in full view of the police, several loaded their guns, but their was no fire. Aura knew why to, they must have already figured out what the cost of doing so would be. Still Aura was unsure what to say to the Police officer who seemed to expect her to say something. Aura breifly considered telling Meld to contact the Mayor, after all, the mayor was in large part the Orders puppet. "If this fails Meld try the Mayor, Syn was quite an influence on her" she said simply standing in the door way, blocking most of what was open.
She had taken predators advise without thinking but she did realize it was the best plan as well. She was protected from gunfire while her Aura held up. She ignored the rant the robe man made, he was a fool, and that was all. "Your a loud one robe man" she said glanceing back at him before continuing to survey the situation with the police, she was glad when Meld got on the phone and demanded to talk to the police officer in charge, for her Part Aura waived with a little shake of her hand to the police. This violated their stay low policy, but also they had been attacked publicly and so things should have been on their side, she hoped.
With nothing left to do but wait, Aura slipped intpo her purse and pulled out one of the white herbal smokes she ahd stolen several weeks back, she knew what it was, Solkat had grown the stuff in deadly concentrations for years. Aura knew fulkl well this stuff wa sa fraction of that power, so she lit the joint and leaned against the door frame, taking a hit, and coughing a bit as she did, her secound hit went a bit smoother though she still coughed a bit after she exhaled. Aura had no idea why Solkat actually smoked so much of the stuff, but it did seem to help her control her powers as well as made her fun. "Anyone else?" she offered casually mimicking what Solkat use to say when she let, but Solkat always had atleast oen girl who was always willing. "As long as they die on command, i suppose it really does not matter how" she said not even looking at the robe man as she replied.

Predator calmly waited out the man's rant, waiting for it to burn itself out. And it did, eventually. "We have a deal, good sir. And it is not wrong to show compassion to another person, not at all. It is wrong to show compassion to these monsters. But don't worry, it is likely that no-one else will have to be harmed in this. If our demands are complied with, only one or two of the people here will die. But," Predator said, leaning closer, "you will live with the knowledge that you tortured and killed those people. I shall see you in hell, my friend."
Predator walked a bit away, laughing. Predator believed in God, but he didn't particularly have any feelings about Him one way or another. When he died he'd find out exactly what was up, but, until then, he just did what he thought was right. This man's talk of God and Lucifer and sin was getting tiring. Predator was surprised that he could hold to his faith in the face of such 'atrocities', but it said much for the man's strength of personality and character. If they could show him the error of his ways, then it is possible that he could be a useful ally, just as fanatic to mutant supremacy as he now is to God.
Predator saw Aura pull something out of her pocket and smoke it, but Predator didn't particularly know what it was, so he refused. Aura's coughing didn't particularly encourage him, either. Whatever, he would have to talk to her when this whole thing was over. In his experience, what you put in your body is what you got out, and he knew that Aura wouldn't like the thought of something making her less of a fighter.
"Meld, tell them to send a helicopter, so that we can escape. However, we will send this robed man into the helicopter as a decoy and get out another way. If they don't do as we say, they know what will happen."

The robed man seemed to have quite strong and quite deluded and naive beliefs and had the circumstances been different Meld would have turned on him and done what she could to enlighten him to how delusional he really was. As it was she was barely able to restrain herself from turning around and smacking him across the face, something that would likely knock him silly given the fact that both of her hands were made of titanium and he didn't exactly seem like he could take a hit. As it was, she managed to restrain herself, if only barely, only letting out a small growl in response. She did not, however, let go of her captive. He may make demands as to their actions in regards to their captives but that doesn't mean that she had to obey his demands. He was not exactly in the best position to make them anyway.
Meld didn't have to wait long for the officer in charge of the raid to come on the phone with her. "This is Officer Reynalds," spoke a firm male voice on the other end of the phone. "We have you surrounded. Come out with your hands up and no one else has to get hurt."
Meld laughed obnoxiously into the phone. "That's not how this thing works. You do exactly as we demand and no one else has to get hurt. None of us actually want to hurt anyone here." Maybe not entirely true of her companions but it sounded like a good thing to say, if nothing else. She gestured towards Predator and put her hand on the speaking part of the phone. "I believe the good officer Reynalds needs a demonstration. You or Robe Man choose a target. Don't kill them, just cause them to scream a bit to show we're serious." She uncovered the microphone and continued speaking into it. "What we want is a helicopter to be sent here. If anyone makes the slightest threatening move, one of the hostages die and I assure you it will be in the most hideous way imaginable. If we have any doubts that you are not doing everything you can to obey our orders, one of the hostages die. If we so much as suspect the least bit of treachery from you, one of the hostages dies. I think you get the idea? I know that it'll take a little time for you to talk to your superiors so I will call you back in 10 minutes. If I don't like the answer you have for me, you guessed it, one of the hostages dies." She clicked off the phone, not waiting for a response.
Meld politely refused the offer of a smoke from Aura. She wasn't exactly sure what it was and didn't want to take anything that might hamper her reactions or her mental clarity. They had nothing to do but wait now. She turned to the robed man, thinking this would be the best time to let her views be known, in the brief pause between action. "Some people deserve to suffer," Meld said, remaining surprisingly calm. "And some don't. I don't bear any ill will towards most humans. I will grieve the loss of any in this building afterwards, especially those that have fallen by my own hand because most here have done nothing but be in the wrong place at the wrong time. But I will be damned if I let my compassion towards these people, lesser people than ourselves for being only human, stand in the way of my survival and the survival of those I care about." Because she had grown to care about both Predator and Aura. With every word the intensity of her voice rose. "So you can screw yourself, with your judgments of our actions and your Lord Jesus. You might some abstract religious stance to be more important than all of our survival, but I sure as hell don't. And like it or not, your life and your freedom is in just as much jeopardy as our own. You don't don't save a dog at the expense of your own life when killing a dog will potentially save your life."
Aras stood still as the others mocked him or explained their feelings to him. They were ignorant of His teachings, just as they felt he was toward their own beliefs. Arguing would get them nowhere; if the first woman had any sort of correct point, it was that his survival was just as much in the balance as theirs. As much as he didn't trust them, he'd probably have to work along with them. His look did not stray from the man, however. His words were menacing and insulting. He understood what he was trying to say, yet seemed so certain that Aras was willing to bend that far. What's also curious is his lack of faith in their own escape. If it came to them leaving immediately, than not one life should be taken. What a silly man, although their chance of getting what they need at first asking did seem unlikely. God's help was in need now more than ever.
"Don't worry, Predator. If your plans to escape work out, I shall have no need to join you in Hell. If you get what you want, not a life shall be taken." With that he sighed, hearing the woman state that someone would need to suffer to get their point across. Doing a 180 degree pivot, he turned to the others scattered on the floor. Walking slowly towards them, his eyes closed and filled with regret for what he was about to do, he approached them and stopped in front of the group. "If anyone would like their sins redeemed in front of the Lord himself," he stated moving an arm to point to the hanging crucifixion along the ceiling, "I am the one to do it. It will be painful, yet I promise it will not be long and will only be to repent by feeling the flames of Hell itself for which these three will surely feel when they pass. If anyone would like to volunteer, let them step forward and have the Lord our Father smile upon you for your sacrifice."
Aras looked up, praying to see any person step up. What he saw was what he asked, yet still more painful than if he had to choose. A person did step up; a little girl no more than ten. Aras eyes filled with wonder as she broke away from her mothers grasp and approached him. Desperate he looked around the room for anyone to step up and take this girls place, yet no one did. They all stared at the girl as she appeared fearless in front of what could happen. Again, Aras looked for another volunteer, yet there still was none. He looked down at the girl as his eyes widened with wonder and confusion. Why, Lord? Why such a young girl? Why give me such a task? The girl seemed to have been able to hear this as she quietly spoke up in front of him to answer his question.
"If it is for God, I will do it. I hope He's watching."
Aras nearly burst out crying with her last words. His head quivered under his hood as he shut his eyes again and hoped he wouldn't need to carry on. Upon accepting what has been presented, he looked at the girl and forced a smile. "He is, my child. He most surely is. And," he stopped holding back tears, "He is surely proud of your courage." Reluctantly he took the girls hand and brought her closer to the three that awaited the response of the police. He sighed as he placed the girl in front of him and knelt down behind her. Carefully, he rolled up the sleeves of her dress and places his hands along her arm. Quietly he hoped it would all end soon. He sighed and looked up at the first woman, still reluctant to carry on his task. "When you want me too, I am ready to start the 'torture.'"
Aura saw that several guns were pointed her way, but no one was firing, which Aura was glad for, had they all fired and hit, her Aura might not have been able to take it. She did also wonder whare all these police came from, did they not kill enough of them on seemingly dayly basis. It seemed they were like insects, able to multapluu quickly. Aura knew that was not the case, but still it did seeme like the order dropped enough of them. Aura also wonderd how this guy knew of a religen Syn was apart of . Still now was not the time to ask such things.
Looking down to the joint, Aura still wonderd why, Solkat enjoyed the stuff so much, though she had stopped coughing with each hit, and she did notice the images were not comming quite as powerfully. Maybe that was why she smoked, to chase away these images now that assulted her. She could fight, she knew she could, still they were a distraction. Finnishing it she flicked it outside Aura hoped no one else would have to die as well, simply becuse killing animals needlessly would egt them noware and if they made the species go extict then they would no longer be able to hunt. She did not look back at who had decided to go first, personally she would not have given him the choice of who, but she had her job, and her Aura kept pulling small splinters of wood from the wall as the time passed.
Aura heard the voice and knew she was young, a fawn really. Still nature often picked off the weak first. "Tis sad the fawn must die first, but nature often chooses the young and the old to fall first so that the heard must survive." seh said still not looking back, if her concentration looked to slip the cops might get stupid, they were mere animals after all. She heard meld's words and smiled, though she was still confused over this religen thing. "Humans may have started this war, but we will most certainly finnish it, the fit survive and the weak fall, the law of nature is that simple" she said easily beleiveing this to be a core truth to life.

Predator nodded at the robed man, listening to Meld's demands and threats. "Yes, please start." It was almost laughable that, where the adults had failed to step forward, this little girl was willing to take torture. It just goes to show that the older they get, the more they deserve to die. "And do it right. I want the cops outside to hear her scream."
Predator turned his back on the girl and the robed man, standing enough behind Aura that he was protected. He looked out on the police, and wished that he could rampage out among them. He had no doubt he could change and then go kill them all, but the main problem was getting out the door. It was much too small, and the area around it was thick stone.

Meld wasn't entirely pleased to see that it was a child that had volunteered itself. She had never been entirely comfortable with the idea of hurting children, in fact had never really done so before although there were a couple of instances where it was a close thing. Hurting a child was like hurting a puppy or a kitty, they were innocent and defenseless. Some of the adults in the church might not have been guilty of anything, but at least she knew that they were neither innocent nor defenseless. Any one of them, she was certain, would have turned on the 4 mutants and killed them mercilessly if they had the opportunity to do so. Just as Meld would have done had she been in their position. But this, this was a child and it hurt her soul to think that it was going to be the one to suffer. And yet, if it was necessary for them to escape alive then she would tolerate it and so she said nothing, although her thoughts played across her face.
Meld nodded dispassionately at the robed mutant to have him begin, trying her best to harden her soul and school her expressions. After a deep meditative breath all signs of her discomfort removed themselves from her face. As always, there would be time to contemplate the necessary evils of her life later, but for now all that was important was their survival and for that she could not let meaningless emotions get in the way. It had been like this ever since she had discovered the was a mutant, or at least very shortly thereafter. She never would have been able to get through those early years of crime had she not learned how to temporarily turn off her emotions. Some might say she became sociopathic at times, but they always managed to reawaken once the crisis was over. She was sure she would suffer for this act later, but not suffer on the behest of some god she didn't believe cared. She would suffer because she had morals and emotions and suffer only because of her own mind and soul.
Meld nodded in agreement towards Aura and her words. "If this does not move the police to do as we demand than nothing will. I only hope that they are indeed trying to do good by their actions, as they claim, and will thus try to save this child and every one of these humans. It will be better for all of them if they accede to our demands." Hopefully they agreed before the child had to die. And if the robed one wasn't willing to kill it then she would, even if it meant another part of her soul had to die in the process.
Aras stared at the three who took their positions by the door to keep watch of the police. Aras sighed as he shook his head. Their words concern for the girl that volunteered yet all they did was end up as words of mockery. Aras was disgusted at how they could just sit by and seem apathetic about the fate of the girl in front of him. His breath became heavier and heavier with fury and resentment towards them. Also resent to himself for agreeing to such a feat. He was about to speak about his feelings, yet bowed his head instead and let a few tears fall again. His hands grasped the girls arms tightly as he tried his best to pull himself through and get out of this scenario. He tried his best, yet he knew that for him to get out of this and return home he had to go through with it. He would not bring himself kill, though; he would not let the man in robes beside the women win. Let him seal his fate for the girls pain is all they'll get from him.
"Be strong, child." His words were soft, almost a whisper to the girl. Her face had been filled with fear and frustration for the three as well. He wanted them to see her face, which is why he knelt behind her and refused to see her face while he would start the redemption. He simply couldn't do it. His wits would break down at such a sight. He knelt and nodded from under his hood when the three gave him the go ahead to proceed. His hands released their grasp slightly as he tried to remain strong himself. He closed his eyes and sighed. "Be strong for the Lord. He will surely reward you for this." Be strong, little girl. Your pain will surely attempt to break you. Let it empower. Let your voice cure their hearts and don't let them forget your scream. He took in a deep breath once he figured out which chant to do and raised his head, keeping his eyes closed and clearing his throat. He had to let his voice ring out to God to let him know of what to do. He would need to watch to see the sin Aras would take away. He needed to prove his name; sacrificing himself for the greater good. While his life would not yet need sacrificing, his purity of providing pain to those who didn't want it was about to be destroyed.
"Kyrie eleison [x3] Christe eleison [x3] Kyrie eleison [x3]" (Lord, have mercy; Christ, have mercy; Lord, have mercy.)
As the chant began to flow, his voice began to rise with the pitch. Intensity began to grow as the words flew up to Heaven and rang along with the words of the angels. The church walls only helped as they echoed the cry for mercy upon the girl, her mother and father, their relatives, the people around them, the three in front of them all and himself. As the intensity of the chant rose, so began the pain inside the arms of the girl. Her first few breathes showed it working as they began to shorten and sharpen. Her eyes filled with shock of the sudden burning sensation within her arms took over and caused her to twitch and produce tears of suffering and regret. She turned to look around for her mother and others, finally simply looking to the sky as the burning began to increase.
"Oww! Ow it burns! Mommy! Mom- AAHHH!!!" Her voice suddenly broke into a cry of pain. She held in a breath and screamed that cried bloody murder. Her screech almost overpowered the voice of Aras, who continued to make contact and chant. He held his eyes closed and continued the chanting, continued the torture begging for someone to run and stop him. He begged one of the three to shout enough. He begged for the police to give in and break them out. He begged and pleaded for God to ascend and end this all. He begged for anything at all to come and end the squealing and suffering of the little girl. Her hands trembled under the burning of the sin being redeemed. She could barely take much more. Just like Aras; Aras could barely take much more, for his conscious would always remind him of her screams for help. Aras only continued though. He would continue until someone, or something, stopped him.
Aura had to say nothing the girl's screams were easy enough to tell the story to the police outside, her young voice revealed she was a child. She wonderd just how long it would take them to break, if their hunger to hunt mutants was so powerful they would let the kid suffer into death. Aurs was a bit board with the situation the long stand off as she really was just standing thare now. The epolice force certainly was thare n number, more had come since they had taken up their position in the church.
She imagined their were likely snipers or hidden cops on the roof tops now. That was why she was here however to play the shild, she took to checking her Aura periodicly, altering it so that if they did try and find a weak point, it would change. The weak point was if they actually managed to hit the point in her feild as she was leaning more to delfect any incomming bullets. Crossing her egs as she waited. All the humans had to do was to let them go, they had started all this anyway by hunting meld and to a degreee pred-head.
"It will serve them better, yes" she agreed though not so much to save the humans. Rubbing her head, she tried to stay focussed. SHe knew however running out thare and engageing in combat would be suicide, yes she could reach the police line, but any sustained fire on her feild would ware it down pretty quickly. Pred-head and Meld were in even worse positions as far as that went. That when she heard the sound of a helicopter aproaching though she could not see whare it was. Was it for them or to subdue them she wonderd. "Hey pred-head, what if they try and lan a team on the roof?" she asked considering the possabillity for the first time.

Predator smiled as he heard the screams of the child. He hoped that she knew what had brought this upon her, he hope she knew how the bigotry and hatred of humans had caused the situation to happen the way it did. Whatever the robed man was doing, it was working. He could tell that the girl's screams were genuine. It was likely that the robed man wasn't actually causing all that much pain, as a child's pain tolerance is very low. It wasn't the torture that was important, however, but the screams that let the police know they were serious.
"Hey Pred-head, what if they try and land a team on the roof?"
"Oh," Predator said, turning to Aura. "Don't worry about that." His grinn widened and took on an evil cast, and he walked over to the wall, then clambered up it to rest next to one of the windows. He was sure that the police could not have seen him go up the wall, and so if anyone tried to come in through that side of the building they would have Predator to deal with. He could jump to the other side easily enough, and dispatch them as well.
"Tell them to hurry with that helicopter, or we might not be convinced of their sincerity. They know what happens then." Predator told Meld, over the screams of the girl.

Meld felt like cringing at the screams of the little girl, almost felt like crying, in fact. It was one thing to torture an adult; even those who weren't directly responsible for the mutant plight were each guilty in their own way, but this child was nothing but an innocent and she didn't go after innocents. She wished that she could put her hand on the robed mutant's should and tell him to stop, that the child had had enough and nothing else was necessary. But, of course, she knew that she couldn't' do that. As distasteful as it was it was also necessary and thus Meld did not let any of her emotions play across her face. She had to remain strong in order to guarantee her survival and the survival of her friends and she feared that if she even let a trickle of emotion get to her then she would lose it. So she watched what was happening, neither flinching nor turning away from the horrible scene before here, with the knowledge that she had caused this to happen and, with but a word, she could halt its happening and yet she said nothing. Despite the utter monstrosity of the situation, she said nothing.
Upon hearing the sounds of the helicopter outside Meld called the police up one more time. "I hope you hear the sounds of the innocent child here with us, officer Reynolds and I hope you know that her pain is on your head." She was pleased and just the slightest bit surprised to note that her voice didn't crack or waver at all. She turned the phone onto speaker so that the others could hear the conversation as well. "Your time to bring us what we demand has expired. I trust that the helicopter we here outside is for our use?"
"We've brought you your helicopter," the officer replied on the other end of the phone. "There's no need to hurt the child any further. Just come out peacefully and no one else needs to be hurt." Unlike Meld's voice, the officer's shook quite badly. Good, it meant they were getting to him.
"We need another ten minutes to converse among ourselves," Meld replied. "Make one move against us, even hint at making a move against us, and the child dies along with every other child here." She turned off the phone before he could reply but she knew that she had gotten her point across.
Turning back to the others, Meld gestured for the robed mutant to stop what he was doing. "I don't trust the good officer," Meld stated. Her voice was cold and dead, horrified at the situation and what she was about to suggest. "I think the moment we go out there they are going to shoot, possibly to kill, and we can't possibly deal with that. We need to bring our hostages with us, at least until we're in the air, and I think our best hostages are children. You heard the way his voice shook, the prospect of hurting a child overrides the desire to have us captured." She hoped that none of their child hostages would have to die. She woudl suffer enough for this deciousn without also having the death of a child on her conscience.
Aras' voice continued to cry out as he finished his chant. Once the first woman had given the word to stop, Aras had let go of the child hands and brought them into a position of prayer. His hands were brought to his face as he finished his singing to the Lord in Heaven. As the last note rang out through the echos of the church, he noticed the girl grasp of her own arms. Tears had been swelling along her face for quite some time. The pain he delivered to sinners was enough to bring much larger men to their knees in front of the Lord as well as knowing what the pain felt like himself on accident. His mind continued to race in regret for wondering how such a young girl was force to feel the flames of Hell itself. With the mother of the girl quickly crawling over to tend to her loved one, Aras slowly put his hand on the mother's shoulders. At first, the mother was reluctant to let him touch her, however in time she realized he wasn't going to harm her and allowed him to comfort her.
"Half an hour and the pain will be gone. I'm sorry that I did this to your daughter, I hope you can forgive me as God may have as well." With tears swelling in her eyes, the mother's face turned to his and nodded. She cradled her hurt child in her arms, truly how a mother should act. He was happy to see that the girl he hurt had a loving mother to take care of her and ease the pain. He would be able to rest easier now. Suddenly both the mother and Aras shrieked as the first woman suggested further taking advantage of the children and using them to escape. The mother was about the rise in protest of the idea, yet Aras' grip on her shoulder tightened as he did her best to calm her down. His eyes grew cold with worriment as he became concerned with the child. He knew that if the mother made a wrong move that these beasts would surly kill her, thus allowing his mind to not be at ease when concerning the child.
"Don't move." His voice had grown to a whisper as he wanted to not give them any ideas. "If you do they will surely kill you. Tend to your daughter for now, I will try to talk them out of this. They seem to have a higher tolerance to my objections." Aras nodded his head and stood up to face the other three. He made slow movements as he tried to position himself in front of the mother and child. He was not going to risk them dying without him going first. He cleared his throat and sighed as he looked up. His eyes almost seemed to glow from under his hood as he tried to stare down the beasts in front of him.
"You're plan won't work, miss." His voice was strong but just barely hiding the fear from inside. He knew that he could be killed by either of them at any second. Yet he knew that in this church he was the only voice for the weaker people behind him. "Using children as a shield from an attack will only work close range. If there are snipers along the rooftops, you are simply giving them an easy target to kill. Taking some of the adults may work better. Whatever rage you have for the humans not of our kind should not simply taken out on the children. Do what is smart and not what is sadistic. Be better then that." Aras lowered his head in wait of a reply. He was truly nervous about what could happen to him and the others around him if his words didn't ring any sort of decency within them. He was sure one of them was close to breaking, yet he didn't know who and all he could do was attempt to break them as soon as possible.
