The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Ask and find out…Ask what? Find out what? Kealey didn’t know, but she wanted to know…something. It was distracting to be this close to a man who felt such intense…whatever it was that people called that these days. Her arguments against what was happening were fading fast and Kealey was getting more and more upset by that fact by the second. There was a reason that it was a bad idea to let this man, whose name she didn’t even know, rub her shoulder in such a familiar way. It was intimidating and nice at the same time. Kealey was pretty sure that he could crush her shoulder if he wanted to. He didn’t, though, he wanted her how men always seemed to want her.
Usually by this point, Kealey would have been running, getting away as fast as she could from this huge man…this huge red man with the uncommonly gentle demeanor. Was it possible that what he was saying was true? She still didn’t know what to ask, yes she did. ”What you’re feeling…I feel it too.” she said, staring up at him. ”I’ve never felt anything like you before. It’s so…intense…I can’t even tell what I’m feeling.” Her voice was a breathy whisper and her eyes were staring widely up at him as she spoke, he listened.
Any confusion he’d had about her ability had to be dissipated by now, and he knew that there had been a mistake. He knew that somehow she’d ended up in his room through Elle’s designs and not her own. He was still persisting. The man said he wouldn’t force her, Kealey had known that from his emotional intentions, but hearing the verbal confirmation was helpful. His words were logical, obviously designed to put her at ease. They were working way too well. Kealey’s defenses were wavering terribly under the onslaught of this giant’s emotional barrage. Her own panic was there, her own knowledge that this was a complete stranger. She didn’t even know his name…
He offered her a kiss, among other things, and Kealey thought about it. Actually thought about it as she laid there in such close proximity to someone who was offering her things she’d never really thought about, in a situation she’d never really thought she’d be in. Was this her opportunity to cast off those chains of innocence that had held her back? Was this what people did when they wanted to be worldly and not taken advantage of?
Somewhere in the back of her mind, her own emotions were reeling, panic overtaking everything else there was for Kealey to feel. That part of her mind wanted to run. Acknowledging its existence brought it to the front of Kealey’s mind and her already hitched breathing increased ten-fold until she was nearly hyperventilating. What was she doing? Who was she? What did she want? Too much…it was all too much. Panic and fear, arousal and the promise of physical delight in this man’s intentions all clashed at once and Kealey burst into panicked tears.
”I…want to…” she said through a sob, ”But I don’t know if it’s me…I don’t know…I wish I knew…I'm so confused...”
~~”What you’re feeling…I feel it too.” At first thought he thought that he was going to have his way with her.”I’ve never felt anything like you before. It’s so…intense…I can’t even tell what I’m feeling.”
And then it clicked, she meant she really could feel what he was feeling, of course she was a mutant and his emotions were trespassing on her.
“Oh man, I am sorry, I didn’t mean to force all of of this on you.” He pointed to his heart not his head. As that was truly where he thought the particular feelings he was producing came from.
He was feeling pretty good about everything at the moment so initially he didn’t take that as a bad thing. “I’m sorry. How can I help you? Can I help you know?
“Oh! Sweetie no.” he swept a tear up. “I didn’t mean to make you cry.”
~~”I…want to…””But I don’t know if it’s me…I don’t know…I wish I knew…I'm so confused...”
“Would it help if I left and came back or got us something to eat?” he wiped another tear away. “ You can sort out what you think away from what I think.?”
He honestly felt guilty for the way he feel, this was the first time he felt bad for his natural lust for life and most of those who lived it. and even then it wasn’t that he felt bad for feeling it, it was that he felt bad for making her feel it in such a manner.
“wait no I shouldn’t have to leave let me reel my self in.” he promptly removed his hands from her cheeks and turned to face the wall. He took a deep breath and then repeated it a few times. old people, old people old people
He was about to turn toward her again after he had severed his current mood.

He was backing off, he hadn’t understood. Kealey heaved a deep sigh of relief and…what felt like about a hundred other things. He was sorry, Kealey could feel his regret, and that helped even more. Now she felt bad though, his feelings again spilling over as she laid there, heart rate slowing as other emotions replaced the desire and lust and…whatever else that had been. Kealey could think again and she shook her head at his apology.
”It’s not your fault.” she said, ”You can’t control what you feel any more than anyone else can. I’m just…” she paused, frustrated and confused still as he wiped away her tears. He really did feel bad. It was almost strange to Kealey how gentle he was, especially considering how huge he was. ”I know you didn’t…it’s just…so much all at once, and I can feel me, and you…and maybe someone next door. Is there someone next door?”
”Needing my romantic horizons broadened doesn’t even start to describe it…and I don’t even know you.” she continued, cheeks flushing even darker than they already were as he offered to leave, to get them something to eat. Kealey shook her head again, it was almost completely dark in the room now, and she didn’t want to be alone.
”Please don’t go…” she said, the stress from the events of the night overwhelming her desire to get away. He’d said she was safe, after all. ”I’ve had a terrible night and I don’t think I can be alone.”
As Kealey calmed down, the tears stopped flowing and the puzzle pieces of the night started to come together. The huge bed, the closet full of men’s clothing, the silk sheets… Kealey’s eyes rose to the headboard, those definitely were not dice as she’d originally thought. Squeezing her eyes closed, Kealey sighed, ”This is your room, isn’t it?” she said as the final piece fell into place. That was why Elle had been so excited and so pleased with herself. Of course. Kealey made a mental note not to trust other women any more easily than she trusted men. The owner of the bed apparently decided that he could manage, and amazingly, his amorous feelings receded to almost nothing. Then he spoke.
Kealey didn’t know how to respond, didn’t know at all. He’d done a good job of controlling his emotions, better than most people could ever hope to manage. ”What’s your name?” Kealey said, sitting up slowly so she could face him more easily when he turned around. ”You know mine…” she said, cheeks flooding with color as she remembered the dream and the way she’d awoke. ”You’re very good at that…by the way. Reigning yourself in…thank you.” she finished, voice soft and sincere.
~~”It’s not your fault.””You can’t control what you feel any more than anyone else can. I’m just…””I know you didn’t…it’s just…so much all at once, and I can feel me, and you…and maybe someone next door. Is there someone next door?”
“Ok good.” He said patting her hand at the acceptance of his apology. “Well we are at the end of the hall, so Kind of next door, but I think the guys wen to sleep or are sleeping so next door but asleep.”
~~”Needing my romantic horizons broadened doesn’t even start to describe it…and I don’t even know you.”
Venus smiled a light smile and where the inferno of passion, lust, and interest in her had turned to a candle, the candle now had a friend. “ Well, I don’t think there is a better way to get to know someone, but I can tell by that lovely blush, that you might be a bit more innocent then I thought. My offer of getting to know one another still stands.” All this was said with a respectful if appreciative tone,
~~”Please don’t go…”. ”I’ve had a terrible night and I don’t think I can be alone.”
“Ok Sweetheart, I won’t leave, unless you want me to. Though let me grab a pair of pants.” He stood slowly, not at all hiding his physique, he moved slowly, more than anything because he hadn’t wanted to show her more of his body then he already had, silk had a habit of…being easy access. That was why he liked it so much. , ”This is your room, isn’t it”
His lips turned a bit pouty at that question as he pulled on a baggy pair of black silky Pajama pants. “Yes it is,” He admitted and then apologized for his blonde partner in crime. “ Don’t be too hard on her, I am sure she meant no harm, She also knows that I’d never hurt you.”
~~”What’s your name?””You know mine…”
“Venus, I mentioned it but you were a bit over whelmed. I don’t have a last name really, but that is a long story.”
~~”You’re very good at that…by the way. Reigning yourself in…thank you.”
“Well, I have always made sure that any hint of being unwelcome sexually as an off switch, I am a firm believer in the whole no means no area. So, Tell me about yourself Kealey Quinn.”
He lay down on the opposite side of the bed. He propped his head up on one arm and lay on his side. One knee pointed toward the ceiling while the other stretched down the bed, his tail lazily cascaded off his side of the bed. He subconsciously posed much like an underwear model might have. Again showing off his muscled form. His hand reached over and lightly put his finger tips on her arm maintaining a contact that helped to tear down barriers that personally space typically demanded.

As her emotions calmed and the adrenaline from her startled waking dissipated, Kealey noticed the throbbing in the right side of her face that was beating in time with the slowing pace of her heart. Apparently Garrett’s powers had worn off, and Kealey’s hand was halfway there to touch it before she realized that it was probably a bad idea. Now that she was thinking about it, Kealey noticed that her vision on that side was screwed up too and she sighed.
The man patted her hand and Kealey didn’t shrink away from the contact, the guy was feeling all kind of benevolent and while the intense feeling from earlier was still there, it was reigned in. Kealey could handle that, and there wasn’t anything wrong with taking a little comfort where comfort was offered.
Apparently she was in a hallway full of men. Her resolve to give Elle at least a firm talking to was stiffened even further by that realization. Just because this was the way her friend apparently dealt with her problems, did not mean that’s what Kealey did.
He didn’t seem shocked by her revelation about her lack of romantic encounters and Kealey looked at him skeptically. With as nonplussed as he seemed, her companion still wasn’t getting the right idea. It really didn’t matter though, and Kealey wasn’t about to expand anymore on the issue at hand. He spoke and she couldn’t help but chuckle, he was so earnest with what he was saying, it was actually kind of nice. Most men Kealey ran into who felt this way avoided talking about the feelings like they were something to hide. The honesty here was refreshing, if a little awkward for Kealey.
Her sudden insecurity and request that he not leave didn’t seem to put the owner of the room out at all. Interesting how that worked out. He didn’t even feel that disappointed, just matter of fact as he commented on his lack of pants and rose to take care of that problem. Kealey hadn’t noticed that he was only wearing boxers until he stood, and when he did, she couldn’t help but tilt her head and stare a little in curiosity.
The man was huge, and red as sin from head to toe. That was something. Kealey hadn’t been around many mutants who wore their condition so obviously on their sleeves, and he had a tail. He affirmed her belief that this was indeed his room and Kealey sighed, moving a hand to run it through her hair and gasping through clenched teeth as her fingers brushed the swollen side of her face. He was defending Elle. They must have been friends. Somehow, this made Kealey feel better. He pointed out that he never would have hurt her and Kealey nodded her head.
”I know you wouldn’t. That’s the only reason I’m still here and you’re not…well, I don’t know what I could have done, but I’m not defenseless. I could tell that malice was the last thing on your mind…and for Elle…I’m sure she thought she was doing me a favor. Apparently we’re a nice study in being physically similar, but different in every other aspect.”
Venus. His name was Venus, like the planet, and apparently he’d already told her that once. Kealey tried to think back and came up blank. Yup, she’d been overwhelmed. It was strange that he didn’t have a last name. He also pointed out, though, that the reasoning there was a long story one he didn’t seem particularly inclined to tell.
He took her awkward compliment with good grace that Kealey rewarded with a bright smile. He laid out on the other side of the large bed, and Kealey was surprised by how much smaller it suddenly seemed. She also wondered if his physique was a result of his mutation. People usually didn’t look like they stepped off the cover of a body building magazine. She was still smiling, “Well, it’s nice to know that chivalry still exists…even in obviously amorous gentlemen such as yourself.”
He wanted to know about her, talking was good, and she could tell he was genuinely curious. His hand reached out and his fingertips came into contact with the skin on her arm. Kealey turned her head and looked at the red in contrast with her own celtic skin. She shouldn’t be allowing it if she didn’t want to encourage him, but again Kealey took the gesture as comforting and stayed where she was, still mulling over exactly what to tell.
”Well,” she said, propping the pillows up the way she had earlier so she could lean instead of sitting up completely on her own, ”I’m not sure how much you want to know…but I’m of Ireland, if you couldn’t tell. I grew up in a convent orphanage and lived there until I moved here. I’ve been in New York several months now, working and such, and tonight I ran into a bit of trouble. One of the residents, Garrett, found me like this…” she gestured at her face, ”In the subway station and brought me here for medical attention. I’d met Elle once before, and she happened to be here tonight, she brought me here…and I suppose the rest is history.”
She didn’t want to say more, to be honest. Her brow was throbbing and her usual zeal for speaking about her roots was a little exhausted from earlier in the infirmary. She looked at Venus’ fingertips against the skin of her arm again and asked, ”Are you always red?” As soon as the words were out of her mouth, Kealey gasped, embarrassed at how bold and rude she’d been, a hand flying up to cover her mouth.
”I’m so sorry…that was so rude. It’s just…I’ve never met anyone like you before, is that why you live here? It must be hard to wear your mutation so clearly on your sleeve. I’ve only heard horror stories of the registration…but they were enough. It must have been hard for you.” Kealey knew she was blushing to the roots of her blond hair again, but shrugged it off slightly, hoping to have not caused offense to her new…friend? He’d apparently found it attractive earlier, hopefully that would still be the case.
Venus rolled to his other side when she held a hand up to her face, rolled open a drawer and took out an over the counter pain killer packet and then opened the minifridge that was near the bed and grabbed a water bottle. “If you’re still in pain, these help a decent amount.”
~~”I know you wouldn’t.
“Hmmmm, I wouldn’t be so quick to conclude it still isn’t a favor, even if the intended favor isn’t at all what occurs.” He winked at her. “ Perhaps, this chance meeting was a bit of fate, even if by mischievous means.”
~~“Well, it’s nice to know that chivalry still exists…even in obviously amorous gentlemen such as yourself.”
“I , do what I ca of course, sweetheart.”
~~”Well,”, ”I’m not sure how much you want to know…but I’m of Ireland, if you couldn’t tell. I grew up in a convent orphanage and lived there until I moved here. I’ve been in New York several months now, working and such, and tonight I ran into a bit of trouble. One of the residents, Garrett, found me like this…” ”In the subway station and brought me here for medical attention. I’d met Elle once before, and she happened to be here tonight, she brought me here…and I suppose the rest is history.”
“I see well if you could describe the one that did that We might be able to organize something to ensure that this doesn’t happen to others.” He wanted to say something along the lines of breaking the man into littles pieces but he thought that might be a bit over doing it. so he moved on. “Ah I assumed Irish but didn’t want to guess, people tend to take offense and rose by the sisters, interesting.”
~~”Are you always red?”
Venus had only a chance to smile before she was apologizing.
~~”I’m so sorry…that was so rude. It’s just…I’ve never met anyone like you before, is that why you live here? It must be hard to wear your mutation so clearly on your sleeve. I’ve only heard horror stories of the registration…but they were enough. It must have been hard for you.”
He let out a small laugh. “No, no don’t apologize, there is no reason to. I am hardly one of a kind as far as my look goes, but I can’t say that I am common either.” He smiled not wanting to go into how there were about seven of the rarities. “Yes, I am always Red, and sense I know a bit of your mutation I can tell you the ever so surprising information that aside from being Red, that I am very strong. to be honest being a mutant and seen for one is quite liberating, I can’t say I don’t want them to know I am a mutant today. And so I am a mutant like you are Irish. It isn’t hard, it isn’t easy, it simply is.”
He paused and then went on conversationally answering the other comments and questions.
“ I live here because my brothers and sister do. And the fact is that the registration act couldn’t contain me, they were terrible times and that is why I joined up with the Liberation force as soon as I could. I suppose you realize I am not the violent type but that was a rare occasion where it was necessary. All of our people being caged and treated worse then most would treat animals. But we prevailed and it makes you see things in a different light, for instance living life to its fullest and not for instance shying away when something feels right.”
Venus shuffled for the remote and stopped the music from the title sequence from repeating any more, he pushed another button and put something soft and instrumental in the back ground. “ I see you found my manly stash of Audrey H.” he raised an eyebrow at her.

Kealey took the pills from Venus gratefully, opening the bottle and swallowing them with a gulp of water. ”Will they take very long?” she said once the pills were swallowed and she leaned back against the pillows once more, ”Does it look too horrible?” she added, ”I haven’t ever looked. I’m almost afraid to.”
Venus was smooth, Kealey had to hand him that. He still thought that there was a possibility that favors could be had. Kealey didn’t correct him, didn’t argue, he was being so nice by letting her stay where she was. Besides, she’d already been rude enough for one night, Kealey chuckled and raised her eyebrow, ”So you’re a believer in fate?” Kealey said, taking another sip of the water, she hadn’t realized how thirsty she was, then she grinned, ”And you think it’s fate that I ended up in your bed tonight? Even though I’ve been pretty much nothing but rude since you got here.”
She’d explained the events of the night and Venus offered to take care of the man, make sure that this type of thing never happened again. It was strange, but Kealey believed him. It might have had something to do with the absolute size of the hulking form on the other side of the bed, but he evoked a certain kind of confidence in his ability to protect someone. It was tempting to say something, to simply spill the whole situation and ask Venus to help her, but when she opened her mouth to speak, the words stuck in her throat and all she could do was shake her head as frustrated tears welled once more in her eyes.
”I’m so scared. He took my ID, knows where I live. I just can’t. Thank you so much for your offer, but I just can’t…not right now.” He went on, talking about his mutation, and some of the fear and the embarrassment faded with his amusement at Kealey’s reaction to her own question, and she listened intently. His words made sense, an incredible amount of sense for someone who had actually lived through the horrors of the camps. He said he was strong, and Kealey laughed again, ”I hope you’re strong with all those muscles. It would be really humorous if you were as weak as a kitten.”
His sister lived here too, and his brothers, Kealey wanted to ask if they were red too, and if they had tails, but she managed to hold her tongue this time. The registration hadn’t been able to hold them…that probably meant that they were strong too. He spoke about living life to its fullest degree and Kealey had to nod her head again, ”I can understand what you mean. “ she said softly and dropped her gaze to stare at the silk sheets as her fingers played with the folds, ”When something changes the very foundations you’ve built your life on, it makes you into someone completely different.”
He mentioned the Audrey movie as the opening credits started to play again, and Kealey couldn’t help but smile sheepishly at Venus. It was hard to be scared or morose, he made her feel inherently safe in a way that Kealey couldn’t remember ever feeling, she nodded. ”Actually, Elle found them while I was changing. I’m responsible for An Affair to Remember being the movie of choice though.” she paused and thought for a moment, then chuckled, ”It’s another one of those things that makes me believe in fate.”
It was quiet in the room, and Kealey looked over at Venus, tilting her head and studying him closely for a few moments, ”Are the movies really yours or are they another one of the things like all the womens’ clothes in your closet and these guys here…” she said, reaching up and setting the fuzzy cuffs that were still attached to the headboard swinging slowly.
“mmmm, depends if we can find sebastion he can heal you up, but if you say garret was taking care of you then it means sebastion was ou, if you simply let it heal on its own…3 weeks to a month.”
~~”Does it look too horrible?”
“You, Look great. It looks like it could use some t.l.c.”
~~ ”I haven’t ever looked. I’m almost afraid to.”
“Nothing to be afraid of, you’re a tough Girl, it’ll heal.”
~~”So you’re a believer in fate?”
“Yup.”
~~”And you think it’s fate that I ended up in your bed tonight? Even though I’ve been pretty much nothing but rude since you got here.”
“Well, here we are, so if fate is rolling the dice like I think, then Yes, yes I do, You are in my bed due much more to fate then to that silly girl’s interesting notions. And if you are going to be rude to me you are going to have to try harder. Because I haven’t noticed.”
~~”I’m so scared. He took my ID, knows where I live. I just can’t. Thank you so much for your offer, but I just can’t…not right now.”
“Well, stay here,” He saw here expression change slightly and amended. “I don’t mean here, here…unless you’d want to. The Sanctuary has available rooms. You could set up camp while we tracked him down. I have a bone to pick with him, so it wouldn’t all be for you.” He smiled again. To be honest he might not even get to do the dirty work himself. Mercury and Jupiter might just run off and do it all.
~~”I hope you’re strong with all those muscles. It would be really humorous if you were as weak as a kitten.”
“Oh that would be terrible.” He smiled and let his head rest on the pillow, some how his head being on a pillow, made them more in bed together. “ terrible and hilarious… but mostly terrible. I suppose I could bluff and hope for the best.”
~~”I can understand what you mean. “ ”When something changes the very foundations you’ve built your life on, it makes you into someone completely different.”
“Yeah, well, I dunno, it does and it doesn’t. It definitely can, sometimes it simply changes what you are standing on. I suppose you can always embrace the change or resist, a lovely trait of choice and being able to be fickle I suppose.”
~~”Actually, Elle found them while I was changing. I’m responsible for An Affair to Remember being the movie of choice though.” ”It’s another one of those things that makes me believe in fate.” ”Are the movies really yours or are they another one of the things like all the women’s’ clothes in your closet and these guys here…”
His eyebrow rose and he let a little guilty glint in his eyes betray him. “The clothes are mine, thought obviously not for me, those” he nodded at the cuffs.” Are very much mine, though not always just for me.. an the movie taste while I might deny it, if you told my brothers, but they started out the same way the clothes did, something that was convenient but a lot of them are really good.”
“war and peace, young wives’ tale, the nun’s story, my fair lady. Though I think an affair to remember is Debbie Kerr, isn’t it?”

Three weeks? It was going to take three weeks for her eye to heal? Kealey sighed, she knew that things like this took time, but three weeks was a long time…and Venus had said it could be longer…could be a month before the bruise faded. Kealey sensed a long several days of explaining what had happened heading her direction and she reinforced her resolve to come up with a plausible story that involved something other than falling down stairs of having an accident.
”TLC?” Kealey said, snorting slightly and leaning her head back against the headboard and staring at the ceiling for a moment, ”What kind of TLC do you give to something like this.” she said, running a distracted hand through her hair and tugging at the curls in frustration. Then, she realized she was being rude again and Kealey dropped her hands back into her lap, ”Thank you for the compliment…though I think you must just be being nice to me…I’m sure I look a total mess.” ‘Great’ was surely an exaggeration.
Fate was a funny word, and at least according to Venus, fate had Kealey in the most strange position she’d ever found herself in. She simply shrugged her shoulders, not sure how to respond to that particular comment and listened intently as Venus offered her a room…and retribution for the person who’d hurt her. Kealey couldn’t help but smile at the kind offer and the kind feelings behind it, it wasn’t right though.
”I couldn’t possibly think of taking a room here. I have a perfectly good apartment that I’m paying rent on, and there are people in much more desperate need of lodging that should be taking the rooms here. I’ll be fine here for one night.”
Venus laid his head on the pillow and Kealey was suddenly acutely aware that she was in a bedroom, in a bed, with a man. Her cheeks flushed at the thought and she looked towards the door as she chewed on her bottom lip in thought. ”In fact…I should probably leave you to your sleeping…”
Venus went on to talk about what it would be like if indeed he were weak as kitten with such an imposing looking exterior. He figured on bluffs playing a large part in his success. Kealey smiled and nodded, ”I know that after one look at you, I wouldn’t want to test the theory. “
Venus was honest as he explained to her about the various items she’d pointed out as she spoke. Obviously the clothes weren’t for him, not a single thing piece of the woman’s clothing he’d had in that closet probably would have fit him. The handcuffs…again, not his and Kealey blushed, mind wandering slightly at exactly what one would use such things for if not apprehending a criminal suspect. Then he pointed out her mistake as he listed off several movies.
Kealey stared at Venus for a moment as she realized that yes, indeed the red man was right. Audrey had never set foot on the set of An Affair to Remember. She chuckled again, ”You’re right…it was Deborah Kerr…I guess my brain is a little fuzzy. You’re Audrey collection is still impressive though. I’m glad to hear you can appreciate their cinematic value.”
Here it was again, Kealey felt awkward despite Venus’ apparently ease with this whole situation, and she frowned, not knowing what to do. ”Now what?” she said, chancing a look over at her new friend, ”I’ve probably imposed on you long enough.”
~~”TLC?””What kind of TLC do you give to something like this.”
“Well an Ice pack couldn’t hurt, but if you are trying to sleep those are hardly helpful, staying inclined will keep the pressure off of it. A warm showering the morning will probably relieve some of the tension.”
~~”Thank you for the compliment…though I think you must just be being nice to me…I’m sure I look a total mess.”
“no, no, a rose is beautiful in bloom or not, and you most certainly look better then any plain rose, perhaps it was better to see you first with a black eye, so I can ease into the full beauty that would be looking at your features on a normal day. And all that is simply aesthetics. I can tell that your beauty is simply the inner showing itself on the outer frame. Which makes it all the more true. And actually I can prove it.”
He rose a little for a moment getting a better view of her. and simply focused on her, he let the observation of her rule his emotion for a moment and, if his words hadn’t convinced her the feeling a pure artisric appreciation for her would do the trick. From her high cheek bones to the set of her jaw, the promising form under the covers. Her soft pink lips.
He pursed his lips and set his head down gently.
~~”I couldn’t possibly think of taking a room here. I have a perfectly good apartment that I’m paying rent on, and there are people in much more desperate need of lodging that should be taking the rooms here. I’ll be fine here for one night.”
“I would insist but I don’t want to force anything on you, but I will insist you take my number incase you have some trouble.”
~~”In fact…I should probably leave you to your sleeping…”
“Sleep sounds fine, but I’d prefer you stayed comfortable. If we got you a room just for the night it woud feel rather bare. Stay with me and if you’d prefer I can take the floor. The carpert is actually really comfy.
~~”I know that after one look at you, I wouldn’t want to test the theory. “
“I can be gentle, the shoulder message for instance.”
~~”You’re right…it was Deborah Kerr…I guess my brain is a little fuzzy. You’re Audrey collection is still impressive though. I’m glad to hear you can appreciate their cinematic value.”
He ignored the comment of bein fussy brained. “It is hard not to if you give them a chance.”
~~”Now what?”,
“hmmm, we take a nap perhaps, give the night for our resident healer to get back and see if we cant get you a get out of jail free card.”
~~ ”I’ve probably imposed on you long enough.”
“You have yet to impose, I assure you. Ms. Quinn. Though I must say for being raised in a convent you are quite the temptation,” a five candle flame smoldered for a moment before he let out a small huff. And the burst of heat settled back to simmering. “ I might have to sleep on the floor. For um, our own good.” He wanted to make a move but it wouldn’t be fair to her. “ So, how are you sure you want something for you wanting it?”
He rolled off the bed with a thud on to the walk way next to the bed. A hand reached up and grabbed a small pillow his arms crossed behind his head and the pillow set propped on them.

Venus seemed to be something of an expert in making Kealey feel better about the whole situation. He suggested ice, inclining the bruise, and a hot shower in the morning. All of those things sounded simply delightful at that exact moment, especially the shower, but there was no chance that she was going to leave the safe comfort of the bed. It would have to wait until morning. Besides, the way that Kealey was blushing, and the way that Venus kept looking at her made Kealey feel like she was going to burn up into a little cinder. Taking her clothes off in his presence would be a bad idea.
He spoke in response to what she’d said about him being nice concerning her looks and Kealey flushed darker than she probably ever had in her entire life. His words were so sincere, Kealey could feel it as he sat up and looked at her. The feeling was appreciative, that was for sure, but there was absolutely nothing lewd about the feelings Venus was conveying. It was the most odd thing Kealey had ever felt from a man and as she sat there and looked back, her head tilted to one side and she struggled to put the feelings into words. She’d never thought of herself as anything special, all lanky arms and legs and a skinny form that wasn’t very good for anything at all. Men disagreed though, and this one really did think she was something pretty. Kealey was stunned, and couldn’t help the emotions spilling over into herself as she looked back.
”Wow…” she sighed, eyes slightly wide at the feelings, ”I think that’s the nicest thing that anyone has ever said to me…and actually meant it.”
He offered her number in lieu of her refusal to stay in the Sanctuary long term. That Kealey could do and she nodded at the offer, one couldn’t have too many friends, after all. Venus offered her the bed, and insisted that sleeping on the floor would be just fine and Kealey gasped, not only had she been the source of grave disappointment, but now he was suggesting that he let her kick him out of his own bed. It would not do. Venus pointed out that he could be gentle, and Kealey nodded, she’d known that the second he’d realized how scared she was and backed off. ”You’re a perfect gentleman. she said with smile, wishing for a moment she could reverse her powers and let him know how sincere and grateful she was.
Venus took her admission that she’d been mistaken on the lead in the movie with quiet grace and Kealey appreciated that too, as well as his suggestion that it was time to take a nap. The tension and weariness of the day were still weighing heavily on her and Kealey had a feeling that once she laid back down it wouldn’t take her long to fall asleep at all. Venus was turning on the charm again and as he commented on how tempting she was for the product of a convent, Kealey felt the sensations from earlier creeping back into her and she shuddered in spite of herself, confusing raising just as quickly as the arousal Venus was projecting. Then it was gone, down to a light simmer instead of a rolling boil. It was still there though, and when Venus asked how she knew when it was really her.
Kealey frowned as he commented that for their own good he’d need to sleep on the floor and thought about the best way to go about answering his question. Scooting over to the side of the bed Venus had just rolled off of, she leaned over and looked down at him.
”I don’t. “ she said simply, then frowned, ”Well, at least I don’t when my powers are working. That’s the problem. I can never tell if I actually want something or if it’s just the person next to me, behind me, or in the next room. Elle seemed to think that would be some sort of green light to hedonistic delight…it’s so much harder than that though.” Kealey paused and thought for a moment, ”A friend of mine told me that he thought one day everyone else’s emotions would just feel like background noise to mine. I can only hope that day comes before it’s too late for me, or that I figure out another way to tell. Or someone I’m comfortable enough with to let them push me.”
Kealey paused again, and studied the man on the floor, ” I’ve got hope for the first…a few years ago I couldn’t even be in a room full of people without dissolving into a nervous breakdown. I’ve learned, and I’m still learning, if that makes sense. “
She rolled onto her back in the bed and thought for a few moments, it really wasn’t fair that she’d stolen Venus’ room and kicked him from his bed, she rolled again and looked over the edge of the mattress once more, ”Are you sure you don’t want me to sleep down there? Or that this can’t work up here? I hate to put you out anymore than I already have.”
~~”Wow…”, ”I think that’s the nicest thing that anyone has ever said to me…and actually meant it.”
“Its nice to be able to prove I Mean it.”
~~”You’re a perfect gentleman.”
He smiled.” I try.” And how he was trying at the moment forcing himself not to give in to letting a tidal wave of lust and want just to crash down on her and then oh goodness, what it would be like for her to experience what he was feeling and what she was feeling, the amount of fun that that would be the intensity she might achieve.
~~”I don’t. “”Well, at least I don’t when my powers are working. That’s the problem. I can never tell if I actually want something or if it’s just the person next to me, behind me, or in the next room. Elle seemed to think that would be some sort of green light to hedonistic delight…it’s so much harder than that though.”
“She and haven’t ever been together, My brother is quite found of her so , I wouln’t” he was pretty sure he wouldn’t. “So I think , that she may have my goals a bit mixed up, perhaps she thought I wouldn’t hurt you but would be willing to take advantage of your power, or maybe she just thought that I am such a physical creature , that we wouldn’t be able to help our selves. I am almost tempted to craft some scheme to teach her a lesson. But that would just lead to more trouble. And I can hardly say I am mad at her.”
~~”A friend of mine told me that he thought one day everyone else’s emotions would just feel like background noise to mine. I can only hope that day comes before it’s too late for me, or that I figure out another way to tell. Or someone I’m comfortable enough with to let them push me.”
“hmm.” He thought about that as she continued.
~~” I’ve got hope for the first…a few years ago I couldn’t even be in a room full of people without dissolving into a nervous breakdown. I’ve learned, and I’m still learning, if that makes sense. “
“ I think that’s how it works with most of us, we have helped a lot of people get a grip on what they do and how they do it, and most of that comes with trial and error, testing your abilitie an learning to control it. They say it is like anything else practice pratice practice, but I think that is underscoring the truth of the matter greatly.”
~~, ”Are you sure you don’t want me to sleep down there? Or that this can’t work up here? I hate to put you out anymore than I already have.”
“If you are comfortable with it, I will come up there with you, but if I find you on the carpet in the middle of the night, I will just snuggle up to you.”
“Ok one more question before I actually let you sleep, what do you mean some one you trust enough to push you?’
He set up an slid under the sheets the body worth would instantly be able to cross that short distance. He had managed to reign himself in once more, what he worried about was if they woke up tangled with one another and if he would be able to not try to kiss her or something.

Kealey didn’t realize that she was treading on proverbial thin ice, but she could feel something in Venus as their conversation continued, restraint. That’s what it was, incredible restraint. Kealey frowned slightly, wondering exactly what it was she was doing that was making things more difficult in this situation. She had a feeling it wasn’t anything in particular, but rather that Venus was simply incredibly sensual by nature. She’d heard those things weren’t exactly easy to simply turn on or off.
Venus spoke of Elle, then and Kealey nodded her head slowly. He really was a gentleman, and apparently Elle had some sort of relations with his brother. Kealey respected the man even more. There were some boundaries that you just didn’t cross. That was one of them. She and her sister had never had the chance to squabble over boys, but Kealey had a feeling she’d have felt the same way given the chance. Venus admitted to a desire to set something up in the way of pay-back and Kealey grinned, but shook her head, ”I thought we’d already established that she had both our best interests at heart…even if her mechanisms were misplaced. I think she definitely needs a talking to, though.”
He didn’t respond immediately when Kealey finished explaining how things were for her. It wasn’t all that surprising, it was hard for most people to really understand what it was she felt on a daily basis. The emotions were too numerous and too strong for Kealey to tell what she was feeling most of the time. The hamburger came to mind again, how great it had been to know that it was actually her enjoying the taste. Kealey sighed and returned to the situation at hand again.
Venus was wise, or maybe just very informed about the way the world worked for mutants. That was yet another thing that Kealey could say she was ignorant of. Where she’d come from, she’d been one of a kind, at least as far as she knew. Mutants hadn’t been nearly as commonplace in Ireland as they were here in New York. Kealey listened, nodding her head and taking quite a bit of comfort in the fact that there were others who struggled with their powers too. In fact, the way Venus put it, Kealey figured that everyone had the same type of problems she had.
”Practice.” Kealey repeated, it was the same thing that she’d been told several times already. It seemed to be the only way that mutants got the hang of their powers. ”It’s just hard for me to practice. I get headaches, and it’s so hard to be bathed in the emotions constantly that I get confused and frustrated. Sometimes though…sometimes I can do it for short periods of time…and the feeling is amazing.
Kealey didn’t see anything wrong with Venus sleeping on the other side of the bed. Truth be told, she was just as easily accessible to him from the floor as she was from the other side of the bed. If he’d wanted to force the issue, he’d have done it already and they’d already established through round about means that there wouldn’t have been anything she could do about it. Venus wasn’t like that, though, and Kealey felt safe, even as he crawled back under the sheets. He pointed out what would happen if she fled the bed in the middle of the night and Kealey smiled, shaking her head. ”I’m not going to run away in the middle of the night. I promise.”
Kealey rearranged the pillows again, snuggling down into them and sighing in comfort at just how fine the sheets and mattress really were, and her eyes were just starting to close when Venus’ voice made her eyes open again. He’d chosen an interesting part of her explanation of her powers to latch onto, and Kealey thought for a few moments before answering, gauging his feelings and finding that he was intensely curious as to her answer.
”I’m scared of everything.” she said softly, ”Not knowing how I feel makes it so hard for me to trust myself with people. Being with someone whose emotions I can feel, and whose emotions effect me is always going to be hard. It’ll take a special kind of persistence and patience for me to be comfortable. Does that make sense? ”
~~”I thought we’d already established that she had both our best interests at heart…even if her mechanisms were misplaced. I think she definitely needs a talking to, though.”
“So we did, I think that she does I suppose, we repay mischief with mischief around here.it keeps things light.”
~~”Practice.”. ”It’s just hard for me to practice. I get headaches, and it’s so hard to be bathed in the emotions constantly that I get confused and frustrated. Sometimes though…sometimes I can do it for short periods of time…and the feeling is amazing.”
“I take it that , the emotion if positive is a bit easier to deal with. I’d play guinea pig if you felt up to it. ” Not that he was trying to figure something out at all.”
~~”I’m not going to run away in the middle of the night. I promise.”
“I dunno if I’d mind now at I have decided to cuddle with you if you do.” He said playfully.
~~”I’m scared of everything.””Not knowing how I feel makes it so hard for me to trust myself with people. Being with someone whose emotions I can feel, and whose emotions effect me is always going to be hard. It’ll take a special kind of persistence and patience for me to be comfortable. Does that make sense? ”
"Hmmm. Sounds like you could use a island getaway too. That has been a personal dream of mine, I want a getaway. Somewhere quite and a bit lonely. It makes Absolute sense. persistent and patient. Good night Kealey Quinn."
Venus closed his eyes and relaxed and waited to hear Kealey's breathe steady then he would proceed to sleep He didn't want to keep waking her up with his questions and be to fast asleep for her own. He waited and then let him self rest and would drift off to sleep and dream of a spicy encounter with an Irish nun. if he only knew how sclose to reality he was.

Venus asked if it helped her practice when the emotions were positive and Kealey shrugged her shoulders slightly, ”It really depends. It’s easier to just deal with the happy emotions people have. I have a tendency to not even know I’m acting on their feelings instead of mine. At least of the emotion is one different from mine, or something I’m not used to feeling it’s easier to separate.” His questions made sense, they were logical, and he seemed genuinely interested in what she had to say. Interesting how well this encounter had turned out after its rocky beginning.
She promised she’d stay put through the night and again Venus commented, completely content with the idea of snuggling if she tried to run. Kealey just shook her head and laughed, ”You’re very smooth too. I suppose it’s for the best, though, if you were a clumsy flirt you’d never make it.”
It made sense? Kealey was a little surprised by Venus’ reaction to her explanation about relationships. She hadn’t figured he’d understand her need for patience, her need for someone persistent enough to make her stretch her boundaries but gentle enough to move slowly. Kealey had underestimated him, he mentioned and Island getaway and she instantly thought of Ireland. Probably not the getaway he was thinking of since people had a tendency not to think of cold, rainy environments for vacations. There were places there, though, where it still felt like you were the only person in the world. She almost commented, then decided not to when Venus told her goodnight.
”Goodnight.” Kealey said, favoring Venus with a smile as she settled down into the pillows and curled up on her side, with her back away from him. Not only was that the side where her face was uninjured, but if she woke in the night, the first thing she saw wouldn’t be Venus again. That was a scare they could both probably do without.
It was hard to get to sleep, knowing that there was something there with her, but Kealey forced her eyes to stay shut and started counting her breaths, something she’d learned in the convent worked as well for sleeping as it did for meditation. Soon, her breathing evened, and Kealey slipped back into an easy sleep, completely oblivious of her bedmate.
