The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

This was a special moment and as Raina stretched out on his chest, Luke absently lifted his hand and began to gently stroke her air. It was an innocent gesture, not meant to excite or create any other feelings, but at the same time it was also an intimate gesture. A special moment shared between a couple.
"Yeah... Sara can deffinately take care of herself." Luke said somewhat ruefully as he leaned his head back against the couch and 'stared' up at the ceiling, "She had to save my life and then had to keep me from doing something I would have forever regretted."
Taking a deep breath, Luke launched into the story. He wasn't going to give her all of the details unless Raina specifically asked, but a brief overview might give her an insight into her boyfriend and the relationship that he now had with Sara.
"I took Sara on a field test. The company had this house that we were always upgrading with the latest security systems. Her job was to get in, crack the safe, retrieve her trophy, and get out without setting off the alarm. I followed along as an observer." Luke could still remember the light banter that the two had shared as they made their way through the door and into the house. That had been before things went south.
"Everything was going fine, and she had easily gotten past far more than any of our previous consultants had. She finally set off an alarm in the bedroom, as she went to access the safe. That was went everything went wrong. Apparently someone had decided to turn the house into a killing ground. I assume they were after me but there's no way to know for sure. Anyway, when the alarm went off a whole bunch of booby traps went off throughout the house. Sara, being Sara, immediately assumed that I must be behind it and so she started screaming at me about the deadly tests we had set up. I was pretty much helpless to help her and then CS showed up. After finally being pushed to far I took a swing at Sara and she politely responded by tossing me up against the wall. We ended up disabling a few traps and then she had to pull me to safety before a bomb in the couch went off. We finally got outside and seconds later the whole house blew up."
That was the story... short... sweet... to the point. But now they were getting to the nasty part and this was what Luke was really afraid of. The kind of information he was about to share was the kind that might just tempt Raina into flying home early, but she deserved to know.
"When we got out, I had lost it... somewhere in the house I reached my snapping point without even knowing it. There were these eight gang members outside that had been hired to kill anyone that came out of the house alive. I... I attacked them without thinking. Took out one, snatched his weapon and then... then... I... I almost clubbed the second man to death. It was a blind rage like I've never felt before and if I hadn't gotten shot and Sara hadn't stepped in, I... I think I would have killed him."
There it was... the chicken had flown the coop... the horse was out of the barn... Raina had heard that her boyfriend was capable of killing, and there was no going back.
"I... I lost control. I lost what I pride myself on always having and when I lost it I almost crossed the line." Luke finished quietly as he finally lifted his head from the cushions and looked back down toward Raina, "I... I thought you deserved to know before we go any further."

Raina sat back quietly and listened to Luke reveling in the hair massaging he was doing. If she wasn't so interested in what he was saying she might have fallen asleep- having her hair played with like that always made her feel great. But sleepy too. When Luke started to explain about Sara and the field test she murmered "Oh yeah, I remember you two talking about that when she... er... visited."
She closed her eyes and visualized everything he was saying. Her face suddenly turned grim and her eyes popped open when he began to explain about the setting of the house and how unexpected it was. The very idea that people might be after Luke put a gut wrenching feeling in her. She never wanted anyone to hurt Luke. "The house blew up?" she asked in disblief visualizing. It wasn't hard to believe that Sara might need a thwap before beliving that Luke hadn't set her up... Sara made it really hard for herself to trust anyone and Raina counted herself as lucky that Sara even trusted her. "CS showed up? I wonder what he was doing there." she interjected.
Raina went silent again as Luke explained the rest and though she tried to stop visualizing her mind was filled with imaginings. She frowned a bit and mulled it over. "It's funny... Sara has a way of being around when people reach their breaking point." she thought carefully of how to proceed. 'I can't lie and say I'm not surprised or something because I am... you seem so calm and collected Luke..." it was true it may have set a little bead of doubt in her but Raina wasn't going to let it stick. "But we all have a tipping point. I found myself in the same position in the camps... during the break out." the scene replayed in her head whirrling with images of Streak, Sara, and Rupert. "I don't know if I ever told you... my first boyfriend... if you could call him that... he was a cop. He worked at the camps. I obviously didn't date him then it all happened before... but the betrayal pushed me. I had devices that kept me from making any noise and that combined with the rage of the breakout I nearly took someone's life as well. I never thought I was capable of something like that. Ever. " she went silent not really wanting to explain anymore but she would if she had to.
She turned around so that she was now leaning stretched out across him with her head on his chest. She reached her hand up and ran it through his hair. "I know what extreme situations can do to a person. I know what it's like to waiver on that line." she nuzzled him a little closer. "But you didn't cross it. neither did I. Even if other people had to stop us. We look back on it feeling bad and that's a good sign. That's a sign that the next time it happens we can be stronger. A sign that we're really good people even when we're pushed. Most of all... a sign that we're human."
it was silent again. Not a bad silence. A thoughtful one.

Luke's breath seemed to be frozen in his chest as he waited for Raina to respond to what he had just revealed. He had opened up his worst moment and while he knew she deserved to hear it he was still afraid that it would drive her away. He had wanted this to be a relaxing trip that perhaps even gave them an opportunity to get closer and instead he was throwing out a situation that just might drive a wedge between them.
"Idiot... I'm a complete idiot..."
For several moment, all Luke could do was listen as Raina began to relate her own story about almost crossing that barrier and then she reached up and ran her hand through his hair. She was still willing to show him affection? Even after she knew that he had almost turned into a killer?
"I know what extreme situations can do to a person. I know what it's like to waiver on that line. But you didn't cross it. Neither did I. Even if other people had to stop us. We look back on it feeling bad and that's a good sign. That's a sign that the next time it happens we can be stronger. A sign that we're really good people even when we're pushed. Most of all... a sign that we're human." Raina said quietly as she nuzzled a little closer to Luke. Then, she fell silent... once again just a comfortable silence between two very close individuals.
It was more than Luke had hoped would happen. His mind had been telling him that even if she did decide to continue the relationship, she would still recoil at least a little and begin to look at him differently but none of that happened. Instead she just rolled with it and accepted him for what he was... an imperfect person.
"Raina... you are an amazing woman." Luke murmured quietly a few moments later, finally breaking the silence in obvious admiration of his girlfriend. Luke's had had never ceased its motion through the woman's hair and now, with the heavy questions out of the way, he was even beginning to enjoy the silkiness of her hair. "And, if I haven't mentioned it before, I really like your new style. It frames your face beautifully."
Finally Luke was able to relax completely so, as he continued to sit there with his right hand stroking through Raina's hair, he reached out with his left and gently placed it on her stomach. Though the hand remained still, his thumb gently stroked back and forth, rubbing her shirt against the fair skin that was hidden within. "Going to sleep on me?" Luke teased softly as he just watched Raina, "Do I need to carry you to bed and tuck you in?"

Raina smiled pleased with both of them for overcoming something so big. Her mind was wondering if it would come back to haunt them but she honesty felt relaxed and calm about the whole issue. Maybe all the drama leading up to this was some divine preperation so she'd be able to handle it. Sure. That's what she'd tell herself the Victoria and tabloid thing was.
She let a small sigh escape her lips. "I hope we don't always have to go to Paris just to relax. But I wouldn't mind it." she smiled and listened to Luke's rythmic breathing.
"I'd sure like to sleep here." she added when he asked. "Though as comfy as it seems right now I bet some important body parts will start losing their feeling if we stay this way too much longer." she giggled and forced herself to look up. "Come on Tiger, why don't you show me where my room is?"

"I'd sure like to sleep here. Though as comfy as it seems right now I bet some important body parts will start losing their feeling if we stay this way too much longer." Raina said with a giggle, "Come on Tiger, why don't you show me where my room is?" And with those simple words Luke was reminded of the boundaries that they had set up in this relationship. He had almost forgotten the fact that they would be sleeping in separate rooms... he had almost forgotten the fact that they were deciding to slow things down a bit... he had almost forgotten that he would be spending the night alone.
"Yeah... we probably should move." Luke said with a touch of regret in his voice. Waiting for Raina to sit up, he slowly stood to his feet once the way was clear and then offered a hand to his girlfriend to help her out of the couch and back up to her feet.
"You're room's right over here. You got the sunset view so that the sunrise won't wake you unless you purposely set the alarm." Luke chatted quietly as he walked Raina over to her bedroom, "The charges include room service and the kitchens are open 24 hours a day so if you wake up wanting a snack or a hot drink or anything, just pick up the phone right there by the bed."
Pausing in the doorway, Luke decided it would probably be best if he didn't go in any further. Being with Raina while sitting on or standing right next to a bed might be to much of a temptation for him to resist. "You need me to get you anything before bed?" He ventured to ask, not quite ready to leave her even though he knew it was just about that time.

Raina walked silently behind Luke until they reached their destination after having let him help her up. She stood in awe of her bedroom taking in the scene. "wow. it's beautiful. Thanks for thinking about the light... that does sorta bug me." as much as she loved the sun Raina was still partial to darkness simply from not having any windows in her dorm. Once you sleep without any light it gets pretty darn hard to sleep with it.
She stepped in and sat on the bed. It had much more bounce to it then she realized and as she fell back on it she realized it was a water bed. "Oh wow!!!" she exlcaimed. It was heated and everything and Raina nuzzled right in. "this is so cool!" The room was modestly decorated and she deduced this room was meant more for serious sleeping. Comfort and function.
She looked up at Luke- he was standing in the doorway not crossing in. He suddenly reminded her of an old tale about a king and a queen her grandmother used to tell her about. The King and Queen were in a forced marriage but secretly the King really was in love with the Queen and he wanted her to love him back. On their wedding night instead of making advances toward her to show her how serious he was he laid his sword inbetween them on the bed and remarked that the sword was enchanted and that he could never cross it on the bed. Only she could.
There was more to the story about how the King eventually won the Queen over and she 'crossed the sword' but Raina wasn't thinking of the ending. She was thinking of how there was a metaphorical sword on this trip with them. She knew Luke wasn't going to cross it.
"One thing." she answered when he asked if she needed anything. She carefully stood to her feet and trying as hard as she could to be sincere and not a tease she leaned in the doorway and kissed him. It was a light kiss but it wasn't without passion. It was easy to feel what was bubbling just beneath the surface. When she parted she looked up at him and linked her arms around him to give him a squeeze. "Thank-you Luke. Good Night." she didn't think this arrangement of two bedrooms was going to last long. But she was damned determined to be sure of her actions.

It was quite easy to see that Raina liked the bed and would obviously be comfortable... without Luke by her side. A small smile trailed over his lips even though he still felt a bit of sadness deep down. They would both be sleeping alone tonight even though, at least for his part, he really didn't want to.
"One thing." Raina did say before she climbed out of bed and walked over to where Luke was standing. Placing a gentle kiss on Luke's lips she then slipped her arms around him and gave him a hug. "Thank-you Luke. Good Night."
"Good night beautiful." Luke replied, placing a gentle kiss on the top of Raina's head, "I'll see you in the morning."
Slipping out of the room Luke carefully closed the door behind him and then made his way over to his own room. After slipping out of his clothes and getting redressed in a pair of sweat pants and a t-shirt, the blind man climbed in between the sheets of his own bed. While not a water mattress the bed was still quite comfortable but even with that the blind man spent a good hour tossing and turning as he tried to get to sleep.
