The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She felt enchanted every time she entered the store. Shelves upon shelves stacked with books upon books greeted a slightly soggy Ghost as she swiftly stepped though the revolving door of the Full Circle Bookstore. It wasn't her first day anymore, but she was just as nervous when she ducked into the green apron with the store's logo. Ghost shook a bit of the misty rain from her hair and then started to walk while affixing the magnetic name tag that read Vega. She didn't like lying to people, but this was who she needed to be at work for a number of reasons.
"Hey, V! Right on time." Ghost glanced over her shoulder at the large wooden clock that was affixed above the entry way. "Really? I thought I was going to be a bit late." Sure enough the clock read exactly noon. "Nope. Been a kinda slow day so maybe you can study some." The older woman clapped Ghost on the shoulder as she lifted the solid wooden countertop. Ghost and the woman exchanged places, Ghost smiling and feeling guilty or forgetting the morning shift worker's name. Thank goodness for their shiny and ever so mandatory name badges. "Thanks for looking out for me, Jillian." "Awww, I like you, kid. You're cute. Much better than the last afternoon shift chick. She was always late and always on days when I was ravenously hungry." Jillian straightened up the impulse buy area before reaching over the counter to grab a short stack of books. "I am gonna re-shelf these before I go, okay? GM's coming in later so Will wants us to keep it extra tidy today. Ha! That so totally rhymed! O-K, To-day." Ghost could hear Jillian's hoarse laugh echo all the way to the Young Adult section.
Register girls had to stick together. That's what she'd been told on her first day of training, and so far she'd been well taken care of at the store. Sure, there were other employees, but register girls were the face and voice of the smallish book store. If they didn't look out for each other, the store might shame the Full Circle Book Store's reputation for being the friendliest and best stocked book store on the east side.
Ghost punched in her clock-in code and went about counting the register that she would be responsible for at the end of the day. She counted twice, satisfied when she came up with the same number both times, and then hopped up onto the stool behind the counter. She fished under the register and broke out the store's copy of her philosophy book that she'd decided to keep stashed underneath the counter. No one had missed it yet, and most girls kept some kind of loaner book down there. As long as they didn't mark it up and gave up the book if customers asked, Will, the store's owner, never minded too much.
There was usually a small lunch rush, but nothing too hectic. The light drizzle outside seemed to be keeping most everyone away today, though. Vega, the ivory haired store clerk, flipped through the book until she found the chapter on which she was supposed to be writing a paper, Justice, and settled in for a quiet shift.

Kaz needed books. He'd probably need a lot of them. He rather despised books. But he would need them if he was to figure out if and what he really wanted to do with the land he would be purchasing in upstate New York. There were a few reasons why he didn't like books, he wasn't stupid in any way, they just tended to bore him. Not to mention they always had extra words and information that he didn't need or that wasn't relevant to what he was looking for. Straight and to the point was his style of book.
He sighed and grumbled every time he thought about it. If he was gonna look for books, he'd rather do it in a smaller more private place than a library or big book store. It was just that sort of book store that he found after grabbing lunch from a local Subway. "Full Circle Book Store, huh." Kaz shrugged and finished his heavy meat and cheese sub before opening the door.
As he walked in Kaz noticed a young woman sitting behind the counter. She wasn't unattractive, but he also didn't find her particularly attractive. Her hair did catch his eyes though, he couldn't see any sign of artificial color, as her roots, from what he could see at his distance, seemed to grow white. She also seemed thin, petite. Not unhealthily so, but enough to make him pause.
"Afternoon." He said politely, but automatically, as he stepped forward away from the door. "Slow day."
"Afternoon." He said politely, but automatically, as he stepped forward away from the door. "Slow day."
Ghost looked up from her book, placing her index finger expertly at her mark as she looked up to greet the customer. "Welcome to the Full Circle Bookstore." She smiled genially and slipped a discarded receipt into place underneath her finger and stood, visually inspecting the man. Shiney silver hair, at first she thought his eyes a choclatey brown, but as he approached she realized they were a rather striking shade of red. He wore a scar across his face like a badge, well... not that there was any way to keep such things from view. He was naturally intimidating, but it was her job to help people friendly, scary, or not.
"The drizzly fall weather is rather keeping everyone at bay, I think." She dipped her head politely in greeting her slight edge of a non-New York accent apparent especially when she said her R's and T's, "I'm Vega, can I help you find anything today?" She smiled warmly and leaned her hands against the counter rather casually, though internally she was definitely intimidated. The only problem was that Vega was no mutant. As much as Ghost might want to run away, now she was supposedly the human store clerk named Vega. Vega just had quirky hair... she couldn't turn to air and spirit herself away from danger... not unless things were dire, not unless this man were threatening the store. But that was all precautionary. He'd only said three words as of yet, all polite.

"Welcome to the Full Circle Bookstore." Kaz barely registered her words, he just nodded slightly. Her response was that of a typical cashier or someone who deals with people. He could feel her eyes on him as he walked in. She did a very good job of keeping calm, at least outwardly. It was slight, and he nearly missed it, but he heard the slightly rapid heart rate of the woman.
Whatever was going through her head, she was calm and even made a bit of conversation. "The drizzly fall weather is rather keeping everyone at bay, I think." Kaz nodded and looked outside as she spoke. He had barely noticed the weather of course, Sun shining or down pouring, burning hot or freezing cold, it really made no difference to him. "Hmm. I suppose so, too bad for them."
He stopped as he reached the counter. She gave her name and offered help. Her name gave him pause, just from it's unusualness. He wiped his hand on his shirt, trying to dry it off before he offering it, "Kaz." After a moment, "I think you might. I need to find information on a few things." He pulled out a list he had written for himself so he wouldn't forget. He set the list on the counter facing Vega. *General Carpentry *Buildings and Construction **Japanese and Greek **European and Japanese Castles and Construction *Waterfalls *Rockwalls/Rockclimbing *Mediation *Teaching Methods *Ethics
Kaz spoke softly, almost as if he was speaking to himself, but in fact he was speaking to Vega, "You don't have to be nervous."
He seemed rather distracted, when she mentioned the weather he actually had to turn and look to check what kid of weather he'd just braved. Even though teh evidence was in the form of little misty droplets on his surprisingly metallic looking hair. "Hmm. I suppose so, too bad for them." Vega's head tilted in a quirky, bird-like manor. Them? Ah - she shoved the thought aside as he was at the counter now.
He wiped his hand on his shirt, trying to dry it off before he offering it, "Kaz." Vega blinked at his hand again curious before realizing that it was intended for her. Ah right, not everyone dealt in polite head bobs and bows. She was just so used to not touching people. It was easy to forget. Vega slid her overly cool hand into his and shook it briefly before he spoke again.
"I think you might. I need to find information on a few things." He them rumpled around in his pocket for a hand written list. He lay the list in her direction on the counter. Again it was polite.
Vega picked up the list, the skin between her eyes scrunched slightly as she focused on reading the words. The arc and flow of the words was really elegant. A slight tilt told of fast writing though the semi-cursive was perfectly legible. "Your handwriting is very deft." Vega commented absently as her eyes flicked over the words twice and then smiled at Kaz, meeting those red eyes shyly as he muttered something very softly. She heard the words clearly as the sound reverberated though the air molecules and she stopped to consider if a normal person would have heard what he'd said before she decided to answer. "You don't have to be nervous."
She smiled easily encouraged by his words. "I'm still kinda new." Vega admitted softly to him, hoping he would think that the reason for her nervousness.
"We have some things like this." She set the list back on the counter having temporarily memorized the majority of what she needed to know. Vega pushed open the counter and ducked under the wood so that she could lead him to the appropriate sections of books.
"Are you perhaps building a castle school, Mister Kaz?" She joked a bit again trying for a bit of conversation as they walked. She helpfully lead him to the DIY section first for general carpentry and construction. She pointed out several options there before gracefully leading Kaz toward the culture section for Greek and Japanese, also castles would be there. It was obvious that she was familiar with the culture section more so than most others. Next would be sports and alternative medicine which were next to each other. In that area he would find Rock climbing and Meditation.
Vega drummed her fingers against her lips as she thought about the remainder of his list. "When you say waterfalls, I'm guessing you don't mean How To Watercolor Waterfalls, do you? Maybe building a waterfall or a photography compilation?" She asked as she lead him to the teacher's section for some of the last bits on Methods and Ethics. If he got too many books for him to hold, Vega would insist on helping carry them. Sure, Kaz was almost definitely more qualified to carry books, but it was her job.

Kaz could feel the odd pauses that passed through the bookstore. Whether it was his own odd re/actions or Vega's, there was a momentary pause where his, and he assumed hers as well, brain took note of the oddness and tried to figure it out. But pass they did. Kaz let her seeming reluctance pass by him, just taking it as being shy.
Vega began to look over Kaz's list almost immediately. As she did she commented about his handwriting, which he could only assume it was a compliment. "Thank you." He said softly, almost unsure. When she heard his soft spoken comment about being nervous, she said she was still new. Being the suspicious and paranoid person that he was, Kaz didn't quite believe her. Sure that could be part of it, but he knew how he looked. His hair and eyes were enough from the start, but add the scar on his face...he knew he looked unsettling, looked like trouble.
Giving her the benifit of the doubt, if she was still fairly new, she had a very good memory. Kaz readily made room for her and followed her with his hands clasped behind his back as she showed him where he could find each item in question.
He chuckled slightly at her questions. "You're very perceptive. And please, just Kaz. Mister makes me feel old." Kaz had picked up one or two books from each stop as they went, partially to remember where the sections were, but also to start off small. When they reached the last stop, he pulled a book of moral lessons from the shelf. "In fact I am building a sort of castle school. Or thinking about it rather. Complete with an artificial waterfall. Where morals, ethics, physical, mental, and inner strength can be honed." Kaz looked up from the books cover to meet Vega's eyes. He had a slight smile on his face, but his eyes showed his true smile.
If anything, Ghost was a fast learner. She was proud to have the entire lay out of the bookstore memorized before her training had even finished.
He chuckled slightly at her questions. "You're very perceptive. And please, just Kaz. Mister makes me feel old." Perceptive. It was something she'd been complimented on before. "Are you old?" She blurted and then ducked her head slightly as she looked at her ballerina-style flat shoes. "Never mind! I'm just nosy." She nervously smiled again trying to regain some measure of the exterior face she was meaning to portray. Ghost was a horrible actress, but Japan had taught her poise at the very least.
Kaz seemed to have a nice sizable collection of books and managed them all with surprising ease. Vega the store clerk noticed none of his quirks, trying to only speak of his bookstore needs. Ghost, however, had convinced herself that this man was special. Special like she was special.
Vega blinked her large, yellowish doe eyes at Kaz. It was the most complete and telling sentence he'd mentioned yet. He was... baiting her? Testing her in some way? Her eyes widened when she learned that what she'd only been joking about was actually right. He was building a school.
She let out a slight breath like a 'wow.' "いい、ねえ..." She mumbled to herself. Her mind raced in a thousand different directions at once. It sounded wonderful. "It sounds like an honorable plan, Mis-- eh, Kaz." She glanced at the book in his hand and couldn't help but wonder if morals to him meant the same as morals to her. Most people who had a moral code were good people and she felt herself opening up to him a little. "I actually live at a private institution now that sounds similar in a way." Of course she was referring to the mansion. Ghost hoped it was an oblique enough reference that if he were familiar he would know instantly, if he knew nothing of Xavier's then he would still wonder.
It was also interesting to her... this man... this special and gifted person didn't look very old, pointed ears and scar aside. Young people didn't usually put their money to such a noble cause, they squandered it foolishly on themselves. She seemed to be searching his face as he was watching hers. "Your waterfall idea makes me think of the monks in the mountains who stand under the torrential downpour and learn discipline." She smiled. "Not a lot of places are willing to teach ethics either. Truly a noble pursuit." She dipped her head in deference. "I wish you luck, Kaz. I can take these to the register if you need to keep browsing." She offered her arms out for him to pile the books onto. She was trying most futilely to keep her personal fascination out of it. She hoped to one day be a teacher. Was this meeting a fortuitous gift of chance?

Luke Jacob's former secretary Miss Langstan had recommended that he check out the audio book selection a a local shop he had never visited... 'The Full Circle Bookstore' was deffinately a different sounding name and hopefully that would have a decent selection. Of course Luke knew that with his disability he would require help making his choice but since there were normally salespeople and cashiers that could help it shouldn't be a problem.
Walking confidently down the sidewalk Luke's white and red cane gently swung back and forth in front of him making sure there were no impediements in his way. Not that he truly need the cane but it was always important to keep up appearances. Many people did their best to avoid rain but Luke had always found it fascination... rain had a sound all its own that was unique from everything else.
"Excuse me sir... Is this doorway the Full Circle Bookstore?" Luke asked several of his fellow pedestrians before one man answered with a very gruff "Yes!"
"Thank you! Have a nice day!" He called after the man before turning to go inside. Stepping under the covered area right under the door Luke ran a hand through his hair getting as much excess moisture out as possible before stepping inside. It was strange to see a store like this with a revolving door but more than likely it was how the store had gotten its name. With his sunglasses on and a white cane it wouldn't take anyone very long to figure out that he was blind but that really wasn't important. The store was a little cool because of the dampness in his hair but thanks to his light wind jacket he was mostly dry. Slowly making his way over to the counter Luke settled in to wait patiently for the first available clerk.

Kaz couldn't help but let out a belly laugh at Vega's question and her hasty 'please forget I said that' statement afterwards. "No no, it's fine, don't worry about it. And to answer your question: I'm probably no more than a few years older than you are. Unless of course you're 10 years older than you look." Of course he said it as a joke. It seemed as if Vega's personality wasn't all herself, she had a very professional personality, but she also had her true self, which, he assumed, had just slipped through momentarily.
Vega said something in a language he didn't understand, but he recognized, or he thought he did. "It sounds like an honorable plan, Mis-- eh, Kaz." Kaz almost felt like blushing...but he didn't. He wasn't sure exactly how he'd run the school, or if it would be a honorable thing. It just felt like something he wanted to do.
It was her next sentence that really caught his attention. "I actually live at a private institution now that sounds similar in a way." He wasn't sure how to respond to it. If he was right about where she was refering to, she had just given herself away as a mutant, like himself. It was obvious by his facial expression that he knew exactly where Vega had hinted at, though he said nothing about it.
"That's exactly how I got the idea Vega. I've always been interested to see how it work, or if it does, on a personal level. If nothing else, I think the water would be relaxing." He was glad his idea wasn't forign to others. "I can only hope I'd do well at it..." Kaz paused for a moment, "Honestly, I don't have much experience in the 'ethics' department personally. So it'd be a learning experience for myself. But I do know that if you have to hang something over a person's head for them to get it, they haven't really learned anything."
"I wish you luck, Kaz. I can take these to the register if you need to keep browsing." Kaz nodded, "Thanks. But I've got them under control." Kaz did start to move towards the counter slowly, he did plan on getting more books. After a few moments of silence, "You were referring to the Xavier Mansion weren't you." First a statement. "If you're a new resident or student?" Then a question. "Then I suppose the repairs are complete or quite far along." Kaz dropped a few big hints of his own on Vega.
Kaz saw a man walk into the store, he saw the cane he used. It was obvious his vision was impaired. He was about to motion Vega towards the man, and let her know he was alright and he could wait to continue speaking to her, if she wished, but something caught his attention. It wasn't drastic or sudden, he caught something that seemed off. He couldn't place it. He turned his head slightly, not looking with his eyes but with his ears, trying to pinpoint the source. No luck. Whatever it was, it didn't seem harmful or threatening, just sat at the back of his senses. Like dull background 'noise', easily overlooked and just as easily dismissed.
There were several things she mentally took note of. One: Kaz admitted to being not much older than she. Two: Kaz was nice. Perhaps he was responding to the innate kindness Vega/Ghost displayed at all times, but he was actually kind and thoughtful. Three: He seemed to understand that she spoke of Xavier's but seemed to have nothing to add... well, not nothing, but certainly nothing as direct as she'd been hoping. Despite her attempts at subterfuge, Ghost wasn't a brilliant deceiver. If they had to keep using double speak she was going to get lost... fast.
When she spoke of the waterfall, he seemed relieved. "That's exactly how I got the idea Vega. I've always been interested to see how it work, or if it does, on a personal level. If nothing else, I think the water would be relaxing." "I hear it's hard work." She chimed in as they walked toward the counter. "I can only hope I'd do well at it..." Kaz paused for a moment and Vega opened her mouth to say something vaguely encouraging, but he continued effectively stopping any words before they'd even formed and leaving her jaw open and dangling. "Honestly, I don't have much experience in the 'ethics' department personally. So it'd be a learning experience for myself. But I do know that if you have to hang something over a person's head for them to get it, they haven't really learned anything." Vega shut her dangling jaw. His experience in ethics was lacking? "Well, I suppose you have to start somewhere. Still noble." She added. Vega made a mental note to suggest some philosophy books, perhaps even the one she was reading now, to help him on his ethical journey.
Vega squinted her eyes as they approached the counter. There was a slight vibration in... well all of the air molecules in the immediate area as if some sound were constantly bouncing around that was imperceptible to her ears. She felt instant unease in the front of her head.
"You were referring to the Xavier Mansion weren't you." First a statement. "If you're a new resident or student?" Then a question. "Then I suppose the repairs are complete or quite far along."
"Uhm." She had to draw her attention back to Kaz's words and away from the strangely unsettling perception. She stopped to think about what he'd said and then answered his questions in line. "Yes, I was speaking of Zev--- eh... Xavier's," She'd always had trouble with that name for some reason. Things should be spelled as they are said and said as they are spelled! Silly English. "I am a resident, and I believe the repairs are complete now. Uhm... excuse me. I'll be back with you in a moment." She shook her head distractedly as she saw there was another customer. One bad thing about the revolving door: no jingly bell to let you know when people came in. They could just sneak up on you if you missed the weight pad's tone that only sounded softly behind the counter.
"Welcome to the Full Circle Bookstore." Vega spoke as she approached since the cane and glasses indicated the man's blindness and she didn't want him to feel that she was sneaking up on him. Her agitation only seemed to increase as she approached the man and she realized that the most vibration was centered around him... as if he were the focal point... whatever that meant. "My name is Vega..." She tried to carry on her duties despite the distractions, though the anxiety was probably evident in her voice. "Can I help you find something today, Sir?" Even though the man was blind, she tried to keep the uneasy look from her face. If the strange vibrations didn't stop she might have to do something to stop it herself. It was entirely unsettling to have so much of her element atwitter, every molecule vied for her attention at once.
She impatiently waited for his answer. As soon as he spoke she would need to erect a vacuum membrane a la Zephyr for her own sanity's sake.

(OOC: Wow... someone noticed the nervousness side of Luke's ability? Cool!)
IC: As Luke had slowly scanned the area around him he noticed a young woman and man speaking... from what little he could pick up of their conversation it appeared that she was the cashier but there was no way of knowing for sure until she walked over.
"Welcome to the Full Circle Bookstore. My name is Vega... Can I help you find something today, Sir?" The young lady spoke in a voice that seemed nervous... cautious... and only getting worse with each step she took closer.
Silently Luke swore in his head as he realized how powerfully he was scanning the bookstore. Automatically he toned down the power, bringing his field of 'vision' back in to only about ten feet out. Though that wouldn't aleviate his... side-effects completely it would help at least a little.
"I would greatly appreciate your help...Vega. I'm interested in your audio book selection and was curious whether you had any of Clive Cussler's works. Also... some of the classics such as those written by Jack London, but you can finish helping this gentleman." Luke spoke his voice was kind, but strong enough that both individuals could hear him quite well, "From what little I heard it sounds like you have a project ahead of you." The last statement was obviously direct towards Kaz as the 'blind' man leaned up against the counter, relaxed and conegenial as he did his best to overpower the nervousness that his ability often projected.
"I should have known I had it dialed up to strong when I came in but this young lady does seem more sensetive than most... remind me some of Victoria but a little bit more confident than that." Luke thought to himself as he waited for either of them to reply.

Vega seemed to become distracted as Kaz said a few things about the mansion. He wondered if he had said the wrong things. Maybe he let on he knew more than just the name of the place and it unnerved her.
"Uhm... excuse me. I'll be back with you in a moment." Kaz nodded and watched her head towards the blind man, while he moved to stand a polite distance away. He was going to set the books down so he could carry more, but he'd wait until the man was helped. He could hear the slight difference in Vega's voice as she spoke to the man. The noise that he had been hearing faintly became even fainter after a few moments though it was still there. <It's staying constant in this area.> Because it was so faint he couldn't pinpoint the direction it was coming from. Kaz could only think of one thing considering how odd it was; This man was the cause of it, whatever that 'it' was.
"From what little I heard it sounds like you have a project ahead of you." His posture seemed to relax as he leaned on the counter. Kaz wondered if this was natural or did he do it with mindful intent. If it was the latter, what was he going for. Kaz's own posture seemed to straighten slightly, squaring himself towards the man, eyes locked on the man's though he couldn't see them. If one put an image to Kaz's tone and inflection, they'd probably imagine a whetstone being drawn along a blades edge slowly and with purpose, "I do indeed have something ahead of me. But please, don't mind me. I can wait."
"I would greatly appreciate your help...Vega. I'm interested in your audio book selection and was curious whether you had any of Clive Cussler's works. Also... some of the classics such as those written by Jack London, but you can finish helping this gentleman."
"I have a feeling this gentleman simply cannot be helped." Vega teased, the smile apparent in her voice as she tried to diffuse any tension there might be between the two. Vega nodded to Kaz, one of those 'I'll be back so don't run off' kind of nods. "I'll come back." She assured Kaz with a smile just in case he didn't read her expressions and then she turned her attentions fully on the blind man. "Let's head over this way, if you please. Audiobooks are... uhm..." she shook her head trying to through out the constant distraction and unease she felt. The migraine brewing at the front of her head felt much like a thunderstorm waiting to happen. She frowned.
"Clive Cussler... right!" She seemed to remember suddenly what she was even doing as she graciously led the blind man toward the shelves with the Audiobooks. She happened to know a thing or two about not being able to see color or read or see paintings and so her physical mannerisms reflected her sympathetic mindset. She ran her hands over the boxes distractedly as she read them aloud. "If you're looking for his newest.. oh let's see - I think that's Plague Ship? Arctic Drift isn't set to come out until a month before Christmas, but that's hardback. Audio usually comes out a bit behind, I'm told."
Vega deftly plucked the smooth Plague Ship box from the rack and then fumbled as she nervously pressed it into his hands. They'd embossed the letters on the cover, luckily, so he would know she'd clumsily handed him the right one. Man, she was feeling so skittish and these people were nothing but nice! Vega shook her head again, ivory locks swishing a short way. This was getting ridiculous. She took a second to breathe and slow down her heart rate.
Next, Vega skipped a few steps to the side as she moved through the authors, keeping the client verbally updated as she went. Running her mouth was also helping keep her brain from going crazy. Unfortunately that required her to remove the filter between her brain and her mouth. "Drucker, Hawking, Keller - huh, didn't know we had that one, King, Leo-ah here we are, L, L, L," She scanned through hastily, reading and speaking so that she would not even have time to perceive the strange thrumming of molecules around her. "Oh, that London! I didn't recognize the name at first. Here." She pressed yet another box into his hands, this one larger. "This says it's his 5 most famous books. The Call of the Wild, White Fang, The Sea-Wolf, The Iron Heel, aaaand," She twisted teh box in his hands so that she could read the last title, "Martin Eden." She nodded eagerly before letting go of the box and running her hands nervously through her hair and over her forehead. This guy had better buy the dang Audiobooks and leave before... before what, she exploded?
"Will that be all for you today, sir?" She tried to hint subtly... okay, well, maybe not so subtly. But seriously. It was taking a lot of will power for her to even be standing in his crazy sonar radius. She had a minute... maybe less before something had to happen.

This girl had to be one of the most nervous Luke had ever met... even with his power toned down to an extremely light level she was acting like most people acted when he was pumping out at full power. He couldn't remember the last time he had been truly blind... it was years ago back before his power actually developed. Ever since then he had always kept his senses up in order to make sure that he didn't really crash into anything. Was it even possible for him to still function without his sonar?
Closing his eyes behind the sunglasses Luke concentrated... this was something he had never attempted or at least, hadn't attempted in years. Was it even possible for him to completely stop his sonar emission? Obviously it was going to take some concentration to keep it off since he was so used to it being on but the big question was whether it was possible. Vega had already found his first audio book and as she tried to find the second he continued to search for the elusive 'on/off' switch that he knew had to still be there. Sure it might be covered in cobwebs and disuse but surely it must still exist.
"Oh, that London! I didn't recognize the name at first. Here." She pressed yet another box into his hands, this one larger. "This says it's his 5 most famous books. The Call of the Wild, White Fang, The Sea-Wolf, The Iron Heel, aaaand," She twisted the box in his hands so that she could read the last title, "Martin Eden. Will that be all for you today, sir?"
Fighting as hard as he could Luke suddenly found himself enveloped in absolutely blindness and silence... at least at the infrasonic level. It was disconcerting and for a moment the man actually felt helpless. So this is what it was to be completely blind. He had forgotten.
"Uh... um... yeah... yeah that'll be it I do believe." Luke spoke slowly, suddenly unsure of himself as he ran his hands over the front of the embossed cases, feeling the outline of the letters with his hands, "I... uh... can't think of anything else. Um... thanks... thanks for your help."
This was the wierdest feeling in the world... true his hearing was still better than most but to be unable to know exactly where every bookshelf and even every bump in the carpet was felt extremely disconcerting. Luke felt out of place and completely unsure... instead of the confidence and kindness he had been exuding he was suddenly just one more blind man that had difficulty in certain areas of life.
"Uh... since I have the cane would you mind carrying them to the counter? Once their in a bag I, uh, should be fine."

Kaz watched as Vega made her way around the store to find the man's books. She seemed to be rushing, she also seemed to be rambling a bit. Or it could just be that Kaz didn't have a clue about what she was talking about. He hadn't heard of most of the books she was mentioning. There was a marked difference in how she had been talking with him and how she was dealing with this guy. Why was she so...nervous. No that wasn't right. Why did she want to get it over with so quickly? That was the mystery, the real question.
Kaz set down the books he had collected so far on the counter in a neat pile. While he kept listening to the goings on, he made his way to to the isle and picked out a few others. He had enough money he could probably buy all the books in the store and the store itself, but that'd be too much to deal with.
Suddenly the odd sound Kaz had been nearly gotten use to stopped. For a moment it seemed very wrong to Kaz, like a void. In the 'void's' place, the man's nervous, unsure, and scared? voice filled it. <1+1=2> It wasn't a coincidence, the man had been creating the sound. But what was the purpose of it, and why without it, did he seem unsure?
Vega also, at the same moment, visibly relaxed. Did his mind supply the sound, or did he really hear her sigh. Kaz walked over to where Vega and the man stood. He put a hand on the man's shoulder. Kaz was straight to the point, "What did you do just now?"
