The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

(OOC: Backtracking in the timeline a bit. This thread takes place roughly a week after the Camp Breakout. Sara and Neena are just going to have a little fun with an old friend..... ;D)
Stark white walls. No windows. White tiled floor that echoed sound. Cold silver chairs. Dim lights shining above. A metal table set with a gallon jug of water. A varried array of many shining instruments, most of them ending in sharp points.
All of these random sights would greet James when he finally opened his drooping eyes. Perhaps it would seem like a dream, or possibly a nightmare, once he discovered that his arms, legs and body were securely immobilized. The nightmare might even have compounded with the sight of two familiar faces grinning at him when he turned his head, one dark and unnaturally happy, the other distinctly feline, down to the sharp canines gleaming under the lights.
Sara stood still, next to Neena. She’d finally managed to get rid of the bony look around her shoulders, thanks to the fact that she was getting full meals without having to heal from being shocked. She was still thin, and her face still held a hollow look around her cheek bones, but no where near the way she had looked, coming out of the camps.
For the feline, the room had been a familiar sight, with one exception. It was entirely too clean. She glanced sideways, telling herself there was a door she could use, and that seemed to slow her heart rate. When she turned back to James, her pointed smile was the perfect Cheshire grin.
James stirred, from his nap staring at the ceiling of a ritzy hotel room. Barry Manalo was playing in the other room, and James was spread eagle on a bed, with the covers tangled around his arms and legs. A busboy, who may or may not of looked like Rupert, set a plate on a side table, then revealed James’s meal. It was buffalo wings! Buffalo wings dripping with Carmel, raisins, and marshmallows? Oh they mush have gotten his order wrong. He wanted banana cream fish fillets.
”Morning, Sunshine. How was your nap?”
A ladie’s voice. That’s right! He was here with Ladies! He twisted around looking for them, but they weren’t here. “Oh hide and seek Hmmm?” James smiled both in his dream and out side. “Morning Sweatums.” He chuckled. He shut his eyes and he counted to three.
He opened his eyes and smiled. Oh look, there’s the ladies…. He blinked once… Twice… the smile still frozen across his face but his eyes were getting wider. Oh - Look ….. Those aren’t ladies!
The memories flooded back into him and he let out a sound like a whimper.
Neena continued to grin as James woke up enough to take in his surroundings.
"How ya doin', Darlin'? Enjoy your nap? Did you know you mumble in your sleep? Which reminds me...." She turned to Sara.
"Did we remember to hook up the camcorder?" She stood up quickly, and bumped into the table. Several items clattered to the floor, including a couple of hypodermic needles, and a small vial of liquid. The vial shattered on the floor, and its contents began smoking and fizzing ominously.
Neena shook her head. "Tsk, tsk, clumsy me." She sighed dramatically, and moved behind the immobilized guard.
Her shoulders shook a bit, trying her best not to laugh, and mentally thanking her middle school teacher, for forcing her to enter science fair projects. It was amazing how many things in the kitchen could be combined for some 'explosive' effects.
Of course, James didn't need to know that little detail.....
Sara grinned at Neena. “Are you kidding? That was the first thing I set up.” Waved her hand at the Tripod with the camcorder perched on top. Next to it was a computer monitor. Neena walked one way around the table and Sara walked the other, jumping back when one of the test tubes hit the floor and started doing it’s thing. “Hey, be careful Neena.” James was leaning as far over the side of the bed as he could. That smile still plastered on his face, looking like someone pumped his face full of botox, and he eyes were as wide as chicken eggs. “Science is dangerous you know.” She put her hand on the top of James’s head to shove him back on the bed. “Wouldn’t you say James?”
“Um… ahhhh… Um…” James, who had seemed like his body was frozen, slowly started to tug at his legs and arms. Slowly twisting his limbs but not managing to free any part of himself.
“Exactly what I was thinking.” Sara said brightly as she turned the computer monitor on and the three of them could stare at them selves on the screen.
“Hey, be careful Neena. Science is dangerous you know. Wouldn’t you say James?”
“Um… ahhhh… Um…”
“Exactly what I was thinking.”
"Ah, yes. But what would the world be without Science? Aaaand...." Neena came to sit beside the bed again, and placed on hand over James's sweaty one. "What would a science experiment be without a test subject. Right, sweetie?"
Her grin was reminiscent of a crocodile grinning at a zebra.
"And I gotta tell ya, James, we're very impressed with you. I mean, honestly." She sighed dramatically. "Not everybody would volunteer as willingly as you did. I mean, you just practically jumped right into our arms! That's very, very commendable of you."
She picked up a needle, glanced at Sara and wiggled her eyebrows. "Shall we get started, my fellow Scientist?"
It was moments like this that made her photographic memory well worth having. She could honestly say she'd never seen anyone's eyes grow to quite that size.....
James didn’t like the situation. Any idiot could see that. His eyes squinted at the needle, but his brow wrinkled as his eye brows shot towards his hair line. His body froze for a five count. Holding his limbs stiff against the straps. Slowly the arm that was closest to Neena got a twitch. A twitch that began becoming a pull, then a repetitive yank against the restraints.
“I did nothing of the sort. It’s you and your weird twisted mutant minds. You fib, or you dreamed it.” James was practially spitting as he talked. “You have shape shifters. I sware, someone was in my skin and made that agreement, or something crazy like that but honest chick, it wasn’t me.” He was yanking so hard on that strapped arm now that the retraints made clapping sounds with a beat.
“You know me ladies. PLEASE! I’m not that commendable, honest!” James’s voice was cracking hard enough to make Sara’s ears flick back as she flinched at the higher sounds.
Sara smiled as she sat behind his bed, running a paw like had over his head. “James, don’t you remember what our science experiment might be offering? I mean besides the possibility of death and being horribly deforemed.”
James’s face tilted back so he could look at Sara, and his head shook ‘no’ with big jerky motions.
Neena prepped the needle while James babbled. Her smile had gone from crocodile leer to a more subtle smirk, giving little indication of her inner thoughts. Other than the fact that she was highly amused, of course.
“You have shape shifters. I sware, someone was in my skin and made that agreement, or something crazy like that but honest chick, it wasn’t me.”
"Mmm.... no. No, I'm pretty sure that was you, Sweetie. Don't you think so Sara? I mean, shape-shifters usually change back to normal when they're unconscious." Not that she knew any shape-shifters well enough to know that.
She picked up a little bottle and measured out the clear liquid into the needle.
“You know me ladies. PLEASE! I’m not that commendable, honest!”
"Oh, on the contrary. You were one of the most unique of all of the guards! I mean, really. There was no one quite like you, James." She reached out with her free hand to pat his cheek. "You're one of kind, m'friend."
“James, don’t you remember what our science experiment might be offering? I mean besides the possibility of death and being horribly deforemed.” Neena snickered at Sara.
When James tilted his head back to look at Sara, Neena swiftly reached out and clamped a hand down on his thrashing arm. She still wasn't quite back to normal after the camps, but a fair amount of her strength had returned. Even so, she had difficulty holding him stead long enough to get the needle into his bulging vein.
"Oh come now, Sweetie, don't be difficult. This shot isn't gonna hurt you a bit. It's just gonna make you feel good is all."
<"Hmm.... that sounded like a dentist...."> She shuddered at her own thought. She hated doctors.
Once she'd emptied the sedative, courtesy of the Camp Kitchen, into his bloodstream, she leaned back, capped the needle, and tossed it into the nearby trash. She smiled easily.
"Now then, while we wait for that to make you happy, how 'bout we talk a bit about this little experiment of ours. I'm rather excited, actually. Aren't you Sara?" She grinned at the feline-featured female. "I mean, you're gonna have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity here, James. You...." She reached out to take his hand again. "You are going to have the chance to see first hand, what it's like to be a mutant! Won't that be fun? And look! It'll all be on tape for future generations to behold! See? See? Smile for the camera!"
She turned and waved enthusiastically at the tripod.
(*Smirks at the fact that there was no one quite like James.*)
Sara was enjoying this, but she still tilted her head away from the site of the needle. She was a healer, and she knew what ever came with a small needle wasn’t going to hurt her. Not for long anyways, but they still made her stomach twist in side. Even with her not looking, her aim was good with her hand. In the blink of an eye, her padded palm came down on James’s bicep, and pressed his arm into the bed. Holding him more still so he wouldn’t rip open a blood vessel or what ever with that needle.
Sara’s movement made James jump, and he tilted his head back again, to look at Sara. Practically staring up her nose at his angle. With her behind the head of his bed and all.
He’d frozen as the contents of the needle was emptied into his arm. His face turning a ghostly pail and he tried several times to swallow something in his mouth, that just might of come from beyond his throat. Having his hand released, he gave a strong yank against the restraints. Making his entire bed shake.
"Oh come now, Sweetie, don't be difficult. This shot isn't gonna hurt you a bit. It's just gonna make you feel good is all."
“You’re craze. Both of you.” He said through a throat that sounded like he had to speak through sand paper.
“Of course I am.” Sara leaned forward over his bed and adjusted his restraints. Smoothing the padded blanket that was under the restraint that crossed his chest.
"Now then, while we wait for that to make you happy, how 'bout we talk a bit about this little experiment of ours. I'm rather excited, actually. Aren't you Sara?"
Sara Grinned. “Oh yes. It’s always interesting to see a situation from a different perspective.” Sara could be talking about the camps here but she was referring way back into her own history. Sad, but the situation kept a smirk across her face. “I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time.”
"I mean, you're gonna have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity here, James. You...."
Sara strolled to the opposite side of the bed that Neena sat, and pulled a chair up beside him.
James’s eyes popped wide open again and he shook his head. Paused, tilted his head with a smirk across his face, when the sedative started to work it’s way into his system, and giggled. No, no, no. That wasn’t right. Not a correct emotion at all. He shook his hole body back and forth against all the restraints at once, hoping to dislodge one. Giggling turning from happy, to hysteria, to happy again. “No, no I’m not. I don’t want it.”
"You are going to have the chance to see first hand, what it's like to be a mutant! Won't that be fun?
“No!” James blerded out, tilting his body so hard against the restraints on the bed, that he could have flipped it over on top of Neena, if the bed hadn’t been secured to the floor.
And look! It'll all be on tape for future generations to behold! See? See? Smile for the camera!"
James’s face turned to the camera, and the computer screen mirroring the three of them back at him. Sara through an arm over James’s shoulder smiling and doing a little finger way at the lens.
James was beside himself. Another giggle managed to vibrate through his vocal cords. This wasn’t happening, It was a bad dream and he was going to wake up back in that hotel room with the busboy that might or might not of been Rupert with a new job. Everything was going to be fine. He giggled to himself again.
Sara was closely monitoring the rhythm of his heart. “His BPM is slowing.”
"Yeah, I've been told that, too." Neena sighed and shook her head at Sara. "Can't imagine why though. Ah well."
That crocodile smile remained firmly in place as James reacted to the sedative. She'd only given him enough to calm down the hysteria. She wanted him to remain cognizant enough to understand what she would be saying to him.
“His BPM is slowing.”
Her eyes flicked toward the heart monitor. "Good." She twisted in her chair and reached toward the table. When she turned back, she had something in her hand that she kept hidden. Each time James giggled, though, her grin widened just a teeny bit.
Finally his heart rate registered normal, if still a bit high. But it was enough. She held up the object in her hand, another small needle. She could tell Sara was uncomfortable, so she held the actual needle between her fingers. The liquid in the tube appeared to be a dark, dark gray color.
"All right, Sweetie, let's start with something basic. Now this little serum was made from the dna of an albino. We're gonna use this to test if you're allergic to mutants. We can't have you breaking out in another strange rash, now can we?" Grin widened a bit further. " 'cause we ain't washing that g-string of yours again. Now hold still, and this will be quick."
She pressed the pointed instrument into his vein again, emptying its contents into the poor man's bloodstream.
Now for the fun part. Ditching the needle, she again leaned back, this time smiling at Sara.
"So, Sara? If he comes out clean, what should we try first? The frog wart serum or the horse mane growth formula? Oooh! Or should we try out that new one? The one that turns your nails and skin green? Is that one from the girl who grows all of those poisonous plants? I forget...."
Gee. Sara couldn’t understand why that was… The camps had been long enough, that she had gotten to know a few things about Neena. With some of the ways the lady got around things, the crazy accusations could be well understood.
"All right, Sweetie, let's start with something basic. Now this little serum was made from the dna of an albino. We're gonna use this to test if you're allergic to mutants. We can't have you breaking out in another strange rash, now can we?"
James gulped. “Albinos are mutants?” he stammered. He had been working right along side a girl in the camps named Jeminai who was a human albino but now he doubted that was possible. For her to be human that is. Hadn’t she changed her hair color at the end of the camps? “I wonder if she’s still blue.” He mumbled as the alarm that he could have been working with a mutant rather than shackling her and beat her like the others, faded into chemically educed bliss.
" 'cause we ain't washing that g-string of yours again. Now hold still, and this will be quick."
“If I ever see another g-string in my laundry loads again, it will be entirely too soon. How many of those things would you ware in a day anyways James?”
“Ummmmm.”
“Never mind.”
"So, Sara? If he comes out clean, what should we try first? The frog wart serum or the horse mane growth formula? Oooh! Or should we try out that new one? The one that turns your nails and skin green? Is that one from the girl who grows all of those poisonous plants? I forget...."
Sara clanked at James. Well it already looks like he’s changing shades of green.” This was true because James was laying there with his head held up off of the pillow, swaying slightly as if he were on a boat. “What bout the one that makes his ears grow really big like a ferangy on star trak or what ever space show that is. Isn’t that the bat one?”
“If I ever see another g-string in my laundry loads again, it will be entirely too soon. How many of those things would you ware in a day anyways James?”
“Ummmmm.”
“Never mind.”
Neena snorted. "That would've been too much info."
"Well it already looks like he’s changing shades of green.”
She leaned over to look James in the eye. His pupils were dilated; he looked high, for sure. Which, in a way, he was. Unbeknown to the once-confident guard, all of the serums they were giving him were simply different strengths of sedative, colored to make them look different. The poor guy might loose his sanity after this little trip, but he'd sure feel good getting there.
“What bout the one that makes his ears grow really big like a ferangy on star trak or what ever space show that is. Isn’t that the bat one?”
Neena grinned and gave Sara a thumb's up. "Oh yeah, that a winner. What do you think, James? Want to see how well you hear with big ears?"
James blinked up at her. A groggy grin crossed his face. "Vry'nce....." he gurgled. Eventually his eyelids drooped, and his head sagged back onto the bed.
Neena smiled, and glanced at Sara. She quirked an eyebrow, then glanced at the camera. It was a cue for her to hit the 'Pause' button on the camera's remote. Once the video was paused, they could really start messing with the former guard's mind, starting with the clown makeup stashed under the bed.
“True. But you’ve got to admit, Didn’t you ever wonder?” Sara asked, after hitting the pause on the remote for the camera. The little red light, next to the lenses, went off. Signaling that it was ok to move. “Remember this pose.” Sara said as a reminder.
Sara ducked under the bed and pulled out a large make up box, and a box labeled ears. Setting them on top of James’s stomach because with him not moving, he made the perfect table. Her eyes flicked up at the clock on the wall. The one she had been sure to keep out of the camcorders view. “How long do we have before Dopy here wakes back up?”
Oh yeah. Since they were saying they were improving his hearing, Sara started digging around in the ear box for the hearing aids. She wasn’t turning them all the way up. At least not right away from James, But they would help the effects on his brain. Not that it was hard to effect James’s brain. Heck. He was about to think he had super powers. When they were done, Sara wouldn’t be surprised if he would try to fly.
"Mmhm." Neena let out a huge yawn just as Sara began moving again. She was still having trouble getting caught up on rest after the camps.
“How long do we have before Dopy here wakes back up?”
Neena glanced at the clock. " 'bout half an hour or so. Just enough time to turn him into an albino bat."
As Sara began fiddling with the ears, she opened the other box and pulled out the clown whiteface makeup, and several foundation applicators. She began smearing a thin layer over James's face, not as much as a clown would use, but enough to make his skin look unnaturally pale.
"Should we give him a red nose, and claim it was an allergic reaction?" she teased.
As they worked, she began humming 'We're Off to See the Wizard' under her breath.
-----------------------------
After twenty minutes, Neena stood back to admire their handiwork.
"Should we wait for him to wake up on his own? Or give him some help?" She eyed the drool dripping out of the corner of James's mouth.
Sara fit the ears in place, over the hearing aids. Being sure only to turn the sound up on them enough that James would notice a difference. “How much did all this stuff set us back?” She mumbled trying to remember. Granted a few items had been liberated without pay.
"Should we give him a red nose, and claim it was an allergic reaction?"
“Sure.” Sara smirked, as she smoothed out the seem where the huge ears connected with James’s face, with some little putty blended to mach his skin, then spread the white clown make up past where his face ended and the ears began. Since Neena was adding the red to his nose, Sara left some flesh tones that were darker at the outer edge of James’s ears. Then spread the stuff down the backs of his hands and collar bone too.
Sara joined in the humming of we’re off to see the wizard. Sort of reminding her how she met Neena at the laundry pool and how they had sung the bottles of bear on the wall song.
While still asleep James randomly muttered about Pop tarts. Meanwhile Neena and Sara where making him the smexiest albino bat man there ever was. Not that he would ever appreciate that fact.
"Should we wait for him to wake up on his own? Or give him some help?"
Sara smirked. “Just let him wake on his own. He’ll have his heart going fast enough with out the help of drugs.” That and Sara secretly didn’t want to see another needle till they were making James go to sleep again. Excuses were always good though, she told herself as she cleaned up the mess and began to make sure everything was in place.
Neena shrugged. "Meh. I'll worry about when the credit card bill comes."
Once his skin tone was pale enough, she began highlighting James's nose. She decided against adding an actual clown nose, instead settling for adding coloring to it. When she finished, it looked like he either had a cold, or had been drinking too much. She also added shadows around his eyes. All in all, once they finished, he kind of looked like he was really, really sick; pale skin, red nose, sunken eyes, big ears.
Okay, so maybe the ears couldn't be passed off as a sickness....
“Just let him wake on his own. He’ll have his heart going fast enough with out the help of drugs.”
Neena nodded, and settled back into her position in her chair. "Good point. As annoying as he was, I have no desire to kill him. D'you? Wonder if he knows how lucky he is. All he'll lose here is his sanity." She snorted, then yawned again.
"Well, he should be coming around soon. You can go ahead restart the video." She planted her smile back on her face, and waited for Sara to continue.
Right on cue, several minutes later, James's Pop Tart comments began to gain clarity. His eyes fluttered opened, and Neena nearly laughed aloud seeing that they were crossed.
"See James? I told ya you'd feel good during this little trip. And here you were so worried."
She leaned in really close, as if making a close inspection of his face. She tilted her head one way, then the other, then leaned over his chest toward Sara. "I dunno Sara. I think he kinda looks handsome this way. Except for the nose.... Maybe he could cover it with makeup?"
She lowered her voice, as if sharing a secret with the catwoman, knowing full well that he could hear them with the hearing aides in. Her tone sounded worried, an emotion that Sara, at least, would know by now that the dark-skinned woman had no concept of.
