The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Vibe stalked down the many hallways of the Labs, and eventually made her way to the gym. She passed by the many physical fitness contraptions with hardly a glance, her target being the pool. The Labs had an Olympic-sized pool within the labyrinth; whoever designed the place couldn't be all bad if they included such a big swim area. She paused in the women's locker room long enough to don a surfer-style bathing suit and pin up her hair. Then, without a word she plunged into the liquid chill.
The tranquil world beneath the waters helped calm her wired soul. It also hid the tears she'd be crying were she on dry ground.
It had been nearly three months since being separated from her sister, without any word on whether she was all right or not. All she knew was that she was alive. But alive could mean any number of things. Vibe had heard rumors that more were dying in the camps than surviving, while others were being tortured or used as science experimental guinea pigs. Yes, rumors usually blew things out of proportion, but Vibe could think of any number of things that could be happening to her sister. Not to mention the nightmares......
She broke the surface for a breath, then retreated again to think. About a month earlier, Vibe had woken with a scream from a restless sleep, feeling as if bugs were crawling all over her, and with the urge to vomit. The feeling passed after being awake for awhile, and she couldn't remember what the nightmare had been about. Even though the twin redheads weren't psychically connected, Vibe couldn't help but feel that something had happened to Amp. Since then she'd had the same nightmare every few days.
Yet there was nothing she could do but wait, and hope. It was so frustrating!
The pool waters rumbled and roiled as enhanced vibrations coursed through the liquid.
OOC: We've determined that Sonya has taken Eris into the labs and a conversation has/will take place with Syn at some point. Assume that this is after it I guess... for now Eris is just walking around getting to know people...
After entering the labs, Katran felt a strange feeling of relief sweep over her. She was still living back home on her mansion, but she would come up here everyday to meet new mutants, if she could. Today was the first day of the said mission, and so she wanted to make a good first impression. Wandering around the labs, she happened upon a pool, and inside was a woman. I guess I'll go meet her then...
As she neared the woman, she could tell something was definitely wrong. She didn't know what was distressing the girl, but she wasn't amazingly talented at hiding her anger/sadness, or whatever was wrong. Although Eris couldn't get a perfect read on her, she knew this much. Investigation time...
She approached, with her sleeveless black shirt and dark blue denims shining in the reflection of the pool. She stared down at the dark hair and shuddered... she liked red better, but this is what it took to be different. To seperate oneself from the past is a difficult thing that requires all-out commitment and decisions. Eris hated that. She walked to the edge of the pool and stooped down, crouching without actually touching the floor. She dipped her hand in the water and discovered it wasn't too cold, just warm enough to be comfortable.
She turned and looked at the woman again, "Hi there... name's Katran. I'm kind of new. You are...?"
OOC: Did Vibe ever meet Eris back in the Sanctuary during Hawyire? Can't remember...

(OOC: Glad to have company. And no, the Twins never met Eris; they came on board later on in the plot. Also, just fyi, Vibe isn't the friendliest of people, to put it mildly, so be prepared. lol)
The clear waters and concrete pool structure amplified the sounds of the outside world, enabling Vibe to hear someone approach from well out into the hallway. When it became obvious that the steps were headed in her direction, a wave of irritation washed over the petite redhead. She didn't wish to have company. Unfortunately, it was a public area. Maybe they would occupy themselves in the other side of the pool area.
To encourage the idea, she held her breath and ducked beneath the water.
A tall woman approached; at least she looked tall. It was hard to tell though, with the waters distorting everything. She looked down into the waters, and a grimace passed over her face. Something in her reflection, no doubt. She leaned down and put a hand in the water.
"Hi there... name's Katran. I'm kind of new. You are...?"
Vibe's first choice was to ignore the woman. She wanted to be depressed in solitude. However, her lungs could only hold so much air.
She kicked back to the surface and broke the water, coughing. Once she had her breath back she gave the woman her a Sonic Sister patented 'once over', head to foot. Finally she gave a begrudging,
OOC: lol... not like Eris is really friendly either... more like... interested. Information is power in her mind, so she'll seek it out, as much as she doesn't like others.
Eris detected a little more than a simple irritation in the girl's voice. Something was definitely troubling her, and her reluctance to even speak with Eris in general was a tell. She had finally broken the surface and spoke, which gave Katran a thrill of control. It was good to be back with the Order members. It really was. How I loved the old life, wish it hadn't been cut short. Sadly... Oh well, time to start afresh. For now. Wait!? Fresh is not the truth. Things will never be like they were. I'm standing in some labs talking to a girl in a pool. This is not the Sanctuary. Dorian is not here. How things change...
Eris' face darkened as the thought passed. The undeniable truth was that it could never be like it had been. For a week or so back then, things had actually been happy. For the first time she had been able to indulge in her anger and still be happy. Now the anger was apathetic and the hapiness was non-existant. The kidnapping had truly changed everything for her. Forever.
"Vibe..." she acknowledged the woman was a slight nod and then walked around the pool, wide as it was. The room was closed in, so the voices echoed and traveled well, allowing to speak to the woman even from a distance. "So. Something's bothering you. Probably none of my business, I just noticed." She had turned her back on Vibe and was walking away while she spoke.
She stopped and glanced back. The girl had red hair. Darn you woman... I wish I had that. I wish I didn't have to do what I did. I want my red hair back... She shook the thought away and stared. "You an Order member?"
She really didn't care what the girl answered... it was much more about how she answered it. Eris was simply trying to get a read, nothing else. In a place where trust was on backorder and people were constantly hating one another, a spoken sentence didn't mean have as much as body language and tone.

"Vibe..."
The woman walked to the other side the pool, and for a moment Vibe thought she might get her wish.
"So."
There went that wish.....
"Something's bothering you. Probably none of my business, I just noticed."
Vibe inhaled and exhaled dramatically. "Yes," she replied, without indicating which question it answered. Then, in typical Vibe fashion she added, "And you care.... why?"
OOC: It's all good. It's tough for me right now trying to get Eris' character back to past form, where she was a ruthless, heartless, self-interested baddie. I'm trying to pick that back up after the kidnapping, but it's taking a while for Eris to get back into form after that... so she'll sometimes be showing mixes of evil and apathy, and maybe even what may seem like a little caring.
Eris chuckled out loud and continued to walk around the pool. It wasn't everyday that she had one of these confrontations, at least, not since the kidnapping. For some reason she had been altered, like her personality had completely reverted to someone who actually cared. But she didn't. Truth is, I really don't give a darn about this one... I just want information... and some sort of buy in. The pool reflection glared back up at her again, and she ignored it.
"Vibe, I really don't care at all." She said with an air that meant it. "At least, not for your sake. But I've come to realize when something is troubling another, it tends to affect more people than just that one." She paused and bit her lip, then continued, "I just want to make sure your problem won't affect me..." She kept walking until she reached the far side of the people, directly accross from Vibe.
She dipped her fingers in again, and spun the water in a circular motion, rhythimically. She kept her fingers spinning as she gazed back up at Vibe. "So what's the problem?"

Calley
((ooc: Hope you two don't mind me dropping in. )
It wasn't that Calley didn't know how to swim. It was that Calley was morbidly afraid of swimming. For a Jersey boy, that was a big black check next to his name. On those childhood summers at the beach he would dig for sand crabs and run like hell from his sister's attempts to drag him into the waves. Needless to say, he'd gotten very good at sprinting, very fast. Not being able to swim was fine with him. Peachy. A situation not in need of fixing. Or it wouldn't be, if so many animals in the world didn't swim for a living.
Calley had recently bought a fish tank. And filled it with water. And a few ten-cent feeder fish, who had promptly grown horrible whites fungal growths over their gills and died over the course of three long days. Calley had sat at his Sonyaless kitchen table every morning and cringingly watched the reaper take on finned form and slowly swim through their school.
This had not increased his desire to try out a fishy form. Especially not in that... that... that Plague Tank.
The point remained, though, that Calley should probably learn how to swim. Just... not in that tank. Or as a fish. He figured good ol' fashioned human form might be best for this task. First: get over his fear of water. Right. Then he'd figure out the whole swimming... thing. Maybe some doggy paddling in the shallow end. Maybe. One thing at a time: first, he had to stop staring at the locker room door. Less bouncing on the heels of his feet, more actually walking into the pool area.
Calley took a deep breath, and bravely edged out of the men's locker room. He was wearing bright navy blue swim shorts. He had a big foofy light gray towel wrapped over his huddling shoulders. He wasn't as dangerously scrawny as he had been a few weeks ago, but he wasn't the healthiest specimen of a teenage boy, either. He cautiously edged towards the pool. His suspiciously narrowed gaze was a little too focused at first to notice he wasn't alone with his titanic-swallowing foe.
About three feet from the pool side he came to a startled stop as his tunnel-vision suddenly noticed a wet red head and a dry brown one. "Urp." He eloquently announced himself. "Sorry. Didn't notice anyone else was here. Sorry." He blinked twice, and then lifted a hand and waved tentatively at the girl in the pool as recognition set it. "Hello, Grumpy. Who's your friend?"
Eris noticed a boy in his teens walking towards the pool. Even if she wasn't a fairly smart woman, Katran would have been able to figure that this boy was also a mutant of some sort. It always helps to know who you're dealing with. Keep your friends close... She glanced up a the boy, then pulled her fingers out of the water. She stayed where she was standing, didn't want to get too close until she knew what this one was capable of. One never really did know... did they?
Eris' cell phone chirped from deep in her pocket, and she ignored the sound indicating someone had left a message. She would get that later. It was probably her friend from England, and she didn't really want to talk to him right now. Instead, she would talk to this boy... much more benefical, though maybe not as healthy. In the long run.
She looked at the boy directly in the eyes and flipped her hair back with her left hand. Sometimes the best impressions are the nonverbal ones, I need to get this boy on my good side. But the truth was, Eris would always be herself... a woman who saw revenge as a tool for victory. Ruthless and unethical. She could try to be otherwise though. Try. She stood there and stared at the boy with half-a-smirk and half-a-smile.
"Don't think we've met yet... your name?" Her sarcastic grin matched her half-tilted body and hair, staring his way.

(OOC: The more the merrier. And apologies for the late reply.)
"Vibe, I really don't care at all. At least, not for your sake. But I've come to realize when something is troubling another, it tends to affect more people than just that one. I just want to make sure your problem won't affect me..."
Vibe watched the woman, warily now. That sounded like something she or Amp would have said. Being a manipulator herself, the redhead didn't trust this woman's tone of voice.
"So what's the problem?"
Vibe narrowed her eyes. But before she could get out a suitably sarcastic reply, someone else approached the pool area.
"What is this? Grand Cenral Station?" she muttered, none too quietly.
"Urp." Now there was an eloquent introduction. "Sorry. Didn't notice anyone else was here. Sorry. Hello, Grumpy. Who's your friend?"
"I'm not Grumpy," Vibe growled, her frown deepening. She had no idea why that scrawny little kid kept calling her that, but she didn't like it. Or him for that matter.
She turned her glare on the woman when her phone rang, louder to Vibe's enhanced hearing.
"Don't think we've met yet... your name?"
"Don't encourage him," Vibe grumbled. "Then he'll never leave...."
She wasn't happy earlier anyway. Eris's entrance didn't help improve her mood, but Vibe figured if she got too annoying or prying, she would return to ignoring the dark-haired lady. But Calley? Vibe swore the kid lived for annoying anyone he could for as long as he could. Ignoring didn't work on him.

Calley
A muffled chirp made sure his attention was on the brown-haired woman for her deliberate hair-flip and very deliberate ground-holding. Combined with the direct eye contact, Calley got the mental image of a snake coiling on the road. It was watching. It wasn't going to strike. Yet. He replied to that measured gaze and bravado by coming into a steady cat-in-the-courtyard stillness. His weight was balanced lightly on the balls and toes of his feet.
> "I'm not Grumpy."
"Heh." Calley couldn't help but let out a little laugh. "Says the growly one." He didn't take his eyes off the unknown woman, but he could just picture Thing Number Two's face: a deep frown. Her forehead was probably all wrinkly, and her mouth would look like an old woman's.
> "Don't encourage him. Then he'll never leave...."
This was probably true.
> "Don't think we've met yet... your name?"
Calley did not like that grin, and he did not like that faux-confident pose. Pose. Poser. There was something very off about the brown haired woman. Not the least of which being that she was at a pool without any hint of a swim suit or a towel. And she hadn't even glanced to see who'd called her--what sort of young woman did that? Mostly, though, the fact that she seemed to be paying pretty close attention to him was setting off alarm bells in his head. Why did she keep looking at him? Something about that gaze reminded him of another woman he knew: Nox. Nox had tried to stab him for making small talk. By irrational association, he wasn't feeling any warm fuzzy feelings towards this woman. His habitually happy grin slipped into place on his lips as he continued to return her gaze.
"Nu-uh. That's not how it works. I asked you first. Indirectly." He answered brightly, twitching his head just the tiniest bit from side to side. His voice was probably a little too bright for Vibe's listening pleasure. She really was a grump. "What's your name, Miss? Umm, if I may ask."
Eris chuckled at Vibe's comment about the boy never leaving. The truth was that he probably never would. He seemed pretty strong-willed, a good will that could match nearly anyone here at the Labs. Good. Eris enjoyed seeing the interactions between certain people, it gave her the feeling that there was actually a chance in the world that she wasn't a total jerk when she saw other people talking to each other like this. If life was relative, Eris loved seeing things that were below her level. But how low really was her level?
She stood straight back up and glanced back at Vibe. "Your probably right..." she needed to continue her conversation with this girl at some point, but the interuption of the boy hadn't come without benefits. It had given her an excuse to pursue the matter later, at a more oppurtune moment. Maybe later in the day, or weeks, but later.
The boy wasn'y playing around, strangely enough. He seemed fairly bright and grown up for his age. Someone who had been through a lot most likely. She chuckled when she heard his remark about the way it works. "Ah... so that's how it is... is it?" Her slick smile coated the edges of her mouth, and reached down her neck line. In essence, she smiled with her body. Almost too nice, or sarcastic? She walked straight towards him and reached out her hand to offer for a shake.
"Katran...."
She paused for a second then tilted her head to one side and lowered her voice manipulatively, "Your turn..."

Ah... so that's how it is... is it?"
Vibe quirked an eyebrow. Something about that lady just.... didn't sit well with the Sonic. She was too smooth. Too slick. Like oil.
Or a snake.
"Katran.... Your turn..."
"Ugh..." Vibe rolled her eyes and hauled herself up onto the edge of the pool. She walked by Calley, wringing her hair. As she passed, she intentionally flung the excess water in the boy's direction.
These word games could go on forever, and she, for one, wasn't interested. She stopped and turned, and took a running leap into the water, aiming to make the biggest splash her dainty body could handle. A self-satisfied smirk graced her lips beneath the churned waters.

Calley
The brown haired woman chuckled. The hair on the back of Calley's neck stood up in a shivering wave.
> "Ah... so that's how it is... is it?"
Something in him tensed at the sight of her smile. It reminded him of an old silent film; here was the lead actress, exaggerating her theatrics to make sure the audience didn't miss them. Calley wasn't missing them. Then she was walking straight towards him. After that first step of hers, Calley matched her step for step. Only his were going backwards. Strange person whose mutation he didn't know, and who was putting him on edge without him even knowing why? Yeah. Yeah, he wasn't keen on her touching him. The nice not-dressed-for-a-pool lady could just stay a reasonable distance away. Needless to say, he didn't shake the offered hand.
> "Katran.... Your turn..."
He shuddered at the way she was using her voice. Forget silent movies: he was reminded of those TV commercials. The ones with the scantly clad girls just waiting for your call. Only this one was going to invite you over, take your money, and leave your body in a construction zone.
> "Ugh..."
Yeah. He pretty much agreed with Vibe on that one.
"Calley." He answered simply, his habitual smile still in place. "No offense, but I don't shake hands with strange mutants. Not unless they're at least offering me candy and a car ride." His eyes, ears, and everything else was focused exclusively on this 'Katran'. Which was a fairly rare event, actually. If she was an animal, he'd have copied her form by now. As it was... anyone who knew him would peg the way he was standing still right now as pretty darn unusual.
It was also pretty darn unusual for him to be totally taken off guard by a woman he'd thought was in the pool. Water drops bulleted onto his arm. "Gah-!" Calley jumped away from them. "Geh-!" He startled away from a running redheaded blur. "Gaaa!" And tensed like a wet cat as water splashed up onto his legs. "Urrrrr..." He shuddered, from his shoulders to his toenails. Water. Uck. Cold water, even. Ickity-uck.
All that backpedaling, jumping, and startling had brought him uncomfortably close to the edge of the pool. Calley glanced at Katran, just to make sure that at least she was where he thought she was, then he glowered down at the innocuously reflecting surface, so recently smashed to wavy bits by Vibe. Come on in, Calley, it seemed to say, I won't drown you at all. Nu-huh. That's what all the liquids said. With a great air of concentration, he stretched out one foot and toed the surface.
"You look like a dehydrated prune lady in a puddle, Grumpy," he said, once the girl had surfaced. It was either that, or 'You suck, Grumpy.' He'd opted for the longer sentiment. "And you, Katran, aren't wearing a bathing suit," he stated. It was something that deserved stating. The water merrily sparkled an invitation. Calley kept tapping it with his toe, his balance every bit as steady as his glower. Glower glower. Even if I drown you, the water was promising, it'll only be a little drowning. Nu-huh.

Vibe's underwater grin grew several points in size and devilishness. So.... Calley didn't like water much, eh?
>Perfect.<
"You look like a dehydrated prune lady in a puddle, Grumpy."
Vibe lowered herself in the water so only the top half of her head, from the nose up, showed. The ripples of her entry and presence hid most of her facial expression. But her eyes, reflected a dangerous calmness and ease.
"And you, Katran, aren't wearing a bathing suit."
A sideways glance this way, another that way and.....
"But you are, Calley. So come join me. I insist!"
In a smooth motion she snapped one arm out and made a grab for the foot he was so obligingly testing the water with.
The unshaken hand wasn't lost on Katran. She knew instantly that the boy was untrusting and maybe even to himself, a typical Order member, or maybe one of this other group. The Kabal? She had head a little about them from Teresa, but not enough to be sure about anything they stood for or agreed on. She decided to bide her time and learn the truth, it would come soon enough. As for now, she would get to the know the mutants here in front of her. "None taken..." she smiled wryly at the boy's 'no offense' speech and turned her back on him, while she felt his eyes drilling her.
She walked a few paces, then turned abruptly as the water splashed out of the pool towards her. She had a split second to ponder the possibility of using her power, making the water stand still in midair, or rush back towards Vibe, but instead she instinctively suppressed the thought. She did not want to show off her skills 'till she was ready. Especially as she wasn't in the mood to be tired today. The power always made her tired. Hopefully someday she would repress the feeling and be able to use her power more often.
"Calley. Interesting name." She also noted the boy's marked dislike for the pool. Water maybe? She had seen certain mutants dislike water, and they were all typically obvious mutants, with some outer display of their difference from homo-sapiens. This boy didn't seem to have any such difference, but he was assuredly a mutant. Maybe his mutation had something to do with electricity, and he didn't like water due to that? She couldn't tell for sure.
She glanced around while the boy asked about a bathing suit. She nodded. Decent question. Understandable, I am on the edge of a pool after all. At least the boy wasn't asking her something ridiculous or prying like a favorite color or her mutation.
"You make a fine point. I'll be back." She left the scene and hurried to the nearby locker rooms. She entered the one she assumed was the women's, and quickly undressed. She hadn't prepared for swimming, at least not on the spot, but she had brought a change of more casual clothes she had assumed she would be using in the gym. She changed into a light blue t-shirt and some short shorts that she had brought in her purse/shoulder bag, stuffing her regular clothes and the bag into an empty locker.
She walked back out to the pool and questioned, "How's this?" then without waiting for a reply, stepped into the pool, and quickly submerged. She came out of the water and took a breath. She had forgotten how great water felt on her skin. She loved swimming most of the time, and even though her mansion pool was rarely used, she relished the times she did get to swim. Life had been too busy and crazy lately. She stood in the shallow end with the t-shirt gripping her skin and undergarment closely.
She watched as Vibe made a grab for Calley. This could be fun...
