The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The information Sonya was enquiring about Syn didn't have all the answers. She had ideas of who worked for Hunter. That being the people that had surrounded him at the initial meeting. "I don't have hard evidence of who is on his payroll but I do have some good ideas of who. There was an asian man that stood by him like some sort of enforcer. There were a couple females and a man who somehow seemed to be a sort of scientist maybe." Syn tries to rack her brain for possible names but in truth she hadn't met with any of those people save for Shogun briefly in the canteen.
"Abyss if you want to go talk with the twin boys then be my guest. I plan to stay here in the labs for now."
"A couple of women, asian enforcer, scientist guy. Gotcha." Sonya is surprised by the wealth of visual information that comes along with the vague descriptions… there are certain advantages to meeting in this weird pseudo-space, after all.
She is also surprised that Syn hasn’t made more progress at identifying these people herself, with everyone cooped up in one building like this… and blushes slightly when she realizes that thought was also broadcast. There are, it seems, also certain disadvantages to this space. Sorry. Just thinking out loud…
Abyss’s suggestion of building a real mutant community catches her attention, and she nods in pleased surprise at the idea of Cameron and Kai as super-farmers. Sonya herself had primarily been recruiting with an eye towards combat troops and saboteurs, looking ahead to the Camp rescue... but Abyss was clearly looking further ahead than that, making plans for what to do with the rescued. And good plans, at that.
"Dude… don’t take this the wrong way," she responds with a genuine smile, "but you’re a lot smarter than you look. That makes all kinds of sense. I mean, when I first got here I wasn’t looking to join any kind of secret mutant organization or anything, I just wanted somewhere to live, you know? If it hadn’t been for the government attacking and stuff, I probably wouldn’t be working with y’all in the first place. I bet most mutants are like that. "
> “I can tell you about several of the kabal members and some > of the members of the mansion people now or later if you like”
Sonya nods enthusiastically. "Now would be good, actually. The more I know going in, the faster I can find out new stuff… and this weird semi-telepathic thing you’ve got going on in here is pretty useful."
(( OOC: Don’t feel obliged to actually summarize everything IC for Sonya, if that’s tedious… you can just say something like “Abyss fills Sonya in on what he knows” IC and let me know OOC who you mention; I can read up to find out what Abyss knows about them. That said, IC brainstorming about the Kabal might be fun.))
> “also I will give you my number before all this is said and done, > if things get dangerous for you call me and I will relieve whatever > worries you have.”
"Sounds good! I try to avoid getting into fights in the first place, but it’s always good to have backup. Thanks." She’s initially surprised by how profoundly relieved she is by the offer, but given how physically dangerous her new line of work is shaping up to be it actually isn’t that surprising.
> “You could pull it off in your male form, the bodybuilder.”
“Mm. Yeah, except I think I lost that one. I mean, I can’t get that body back… I’ve forgotten it, or wiped it out, or however that works.” She’s a little embarrassed at the admission of how little she understands her own power. “It’s hard to tell, really… I was surprised when it turned out I could get Teresa’s body back. And I’ve been able to hold on to Doug’s, too. But I don’t really understand how this ability works. I’ve only had it for a few months, it keeps surprising me.”
> “If you will indulge me a personal question, why is it you have two Minds?”
Sonya looks around at the new voice – or, rather, the familiar voice from the new location -- and stares in surprise at the second Abyss. “I could ask you the same thing, I guess?” she responds, as the Teresa-body simultaneously responds “She doesn’t.”
Sonya stares at Teresa in even greater surprise. She’d been startled to find both bodies in this not-space, but Teresa hadn’t really moved or done anything since she’d arrived, and she’d sort of forgotten about her.
“Um… yeah. Like I said, I don’t really understand how this works. I copy minds as well as bodies, sorta. Or parts of minds. Or something. That’s Teresa over there… my real name’s Sonya. Or, well… maybe that’s not real either, but it’s the realest name I’ve got. So I guess I’ve got her mind in here somewhere… and in here it comes out?” She sounds just as perplexed as she in fact is. “Like I said, I don’t really know how it works.”
> “From what I have seen of most mutations, typically your abilities > starts out at a crawl and as you learn the ins and outs of it, you will > learn to use it more proficiently and gain more impressive uses of it. > Metaphorically learning to walk, the trick is not stopping there, it > seems more of a task to learn to run and figure out what running > would mean to your particular mutation.”
Sonya chuckles. "Yeah, I guess. I think I’m still figuring out where my feet are. Or, you know, maybe I have roller skates. Or flippers." The way this Abyss talks is interestingly different from the one she knows… same body, same voice, but a different style, different inflections.
"Though it’s kinda cool to be able to talk about this stuff with somebody who actually knows about it, y’know? So far I’ve only told the two of you… everybody else who knows I’m a mutant at all thinks I’m her," she gestures in the direction of Teresa’s mind, which has gone back to floating passively in the void, "and that all I can do is heal myself. It’s hard to know who to trust, you know? That’s why I borrowed that body-builder’s body when I was at Sanctuary." It’s not exactly an apology, but it approximates one.
"And, hell, I’m sharing an apartment with Calley and I haven’t told him what I can really do. I don’t know… maybe I’m just being paranoid." She turns to include Syn in the conversation as well. " What do you think? Should I just let folks know what I can do? "
> “To answer your same question of us; Avello here as a prepubescent > adolescent, began to hear voices, six voices in fact.”
Sonya blinks in surprise at what she assumes is Abyss’ real name… or, at any event, his birth name… but doesn’t interrupt the subsequent explanation. Which it turns out isn’t really an explanation at all, but on further consideration she decides it’s probably as much of an explanation as Abyss himself has. Questions like ‘why are there seven of you living in a weird void that only you can open up portals into?’, or ‘why can you change shape and steal memories from people’, etc. don’t really seem to have answers.
"So… do you prefer Avello, or Abyss? And doesn’t it get confusing if there’s seven of you with the same name?"
Though there aren't any chairs in the void Syn elects to sit back and listen to her brother and Sonya talk. It actually pleases her that they seem to be connecting some. Perhaps that will help keep her loyalty even after all this is over. At the same time it's good to hear more about the other woman. Though, when the topic of her brothers clones arises she listens due to the fact that she never really knew the full details of what happened or how they were unleashed.
When Sonya directs her curious question about telling others what she can do to both Syn abd her brother Syn shakes her head. "No, you're ability works best with the least amount of people knowing what you can really do. My suggestion is to keep it a secret. It's been working well for you thus far."
> "You're bunking with Calley? Boy's got a bit more to him than I thought."
Sonya grins, only blushing a little. "Well, I admit, I wouldn't kick him out of bed for eating potato chips, even if he is a scrawny-ass white boy. Which reminds me, is anybody here feeding that boy?!? But it's not like that; he just let me crash at his place back when I was living on the streets, before Syn put me on the Order's payroll, and I've been staying there since. He sleeps on the living-room floor, believe it or not... when he sleeps there at all; mostly he's here. Or at least, that's what he says. Besides which, he's got a girlfriend! Not that he seems to care much."
She frowns and adds "Truth is, he doesn't seem to care much about other people in general. I don't really trust him, but it beats sleeping in hotels. Have you seen his apartment? I don't know who the hell his dad is, but that's quite a going-away present for the family Black Sheep. Assuming that story is even true. With Calley, it's hard to know for sure. Like I said -- not so much the trust, but he's fun to hang around with. So is Slate, in a weird Asperger's-syndrome kind of way... at least, if you don't get in between him and his current obsession." She pauses for a second, uncertainly. "You know about Slate, right?"
> "if you weren’t too attached to a form it’d be a fantastic way to make them even more paranoid then they are right now. If they thought they couldn’t even trust themselves well, that would just be amusing and as long as you were alright to give up the form you told them in it wouldn’t really matter. For instance Teresa could be simply a healer. While, what was his name, Doug? He could be a shape shifter.”
Sonya nods. "Yeah, I've thought about that. Not attached to Doug at all... I'd hate to give up Teresa, I've put a lot of work into her." The Teresa-body floating nearby looks vaguely annoyed at that, but says nothing. "And this body is my original... well, close enough, anyway... it's the one I default to when I'm not wearing anybody else's. So I'd rather nobody see it. A few folks have, but I think the only one who could make any kind of connection would be Raina, and it's pretty tenuous even there. So I'm not too worried."
She thinks about it a little before adding "Actually, I'm pretty sure Detective Kelly has figured out that there's a shapeshifter working for the Resistance, but I don't think he thinks Teresa's it. Everybody else, I'm pretty sure hasn't a clue. And I sorta like the freaking-them-out idea, but at the same time what they don't know, they can't take steps to protect against, you know?" She shrugs. "So I think I'll keep the whole thing secret for now. Except for you guys. Which reminds me, have you told anybody else?"
> "Wonderful people aye sister?"
"You two are siblings? Heh... I didn't know that." She considers making some snarky comment about being able to see the resemblance, but lets it go. To Syn, she adds "So, do you have the same powers he does?"
> "the one attempting to lecture you on genes is Mars and the other is Saturn. Pluto, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus are all out and about"
Sonya nods slowly, then counts in her head. "Wait, that's only six. I can understand skipping Earth, but what about --" she stops, chuckles, shakes her head amused, and finishes "--and Neptune? Not to mention that Pluto isn't even a planet any more... was the poor guy bummed out about that?"
She thinks about it some more and adds "Wait up, though. Who's the, um... I mean, the guy I was talking to before walking in here? It isn't, um, Mars... y'all don't talk the same. Do you take turns, or what?"
As Voltaire ventured into the canteen for some food he noted that it was pretty crowded. He walked over too the vending machine to get himself a sandwich. He took the sandwich and picked up a cup of hot water to make some tea. He looked around trying to find himself a spot that he could be left alone. He noted a big red guy sitting alone at a table. Nobody seemed to want to sit there, or maybe he didn't allow them. "Atleast it was worth a shot" He thought. He walked over to the table and noted that the red guy was talking to himself or something. He made weird faces and his lips moved once in a while. Voltaire was now standing at the table and said with a bit of akwardness in his voice : "Uhm, excuse me mind if i sit here?"
Smiling to Sonya as Abyss devulges the fact that the big red hulk and herself ar related Syn shakes her head to Sonya's question. "No, in fact our sister doesn't have any of the same powers either." She lets that soak in for a moment while wondering what Sonya must be thinking that Abyss, Syn are siblings with another sister. "While I do have some strength it no where compares to my dear brothers ability. On top of that I'm complicated as well as very influential. So much so that our beloved host seems to have taken the liberty of briefing his personnel about me. They tend to steer clear of me or if they do respond to me it's in very brief statements before they go on with their business. It's actually quite rude but in a way it's also fun knowing I'm so well known."
He looked at the guy and then nodded. “That’s fine with me,” he stood to his feet and offered his hand. “I’m Abyss; I know we met in that briefing but not directly. So, How is this place treating ya?” he briefly wondered where he got all of this niceness from, there was no real reason for him to be so capable socially.. perhaps he was simply always in recruiting mode.
Voltaire looked at abyss that offered him a hand. "I'm Voltaire" He said. "I Better not shake your hand for both out safety." he continued and sat down at the table. He picked up a tea bag from on of his pockets in his coat and placed it in the cup of hot water. "This place has been nicer to me then my father did after he found out, so it's ok." He responded to the question. He unwrapped his sandwich and placed it on the plastic that he took it out from. "Pardon me if i'm rude or anything, Why did you make all those strange facial expressions?" He asked hoping that he wouldn't step on abyss's toe's with that question.
> "No, in fact our sister doesn't have any of the same powers either."
Sonya nods to Syn, curiously. "So what can she do?" Not that Syn had been entirely helpful about explaining her own powers, but after her encounter with Naveed Sonya is prepared to understand “influential” in a somewhat broader fashion than she might otherwise. Which is a good thing to remember when dealing with her in the future.
> “We don’t have to take turns.” She’s a little distracted by the fugue that Abyss’ conversation suddenly becomes, and grins. "Apparently not! That’s neat. You’d make one heck of a barbershop quartet… um… sextet? "
"Well, our dear sister can absorb life energy from others. She can also sap some of your mutation and use it herself. So I'd becareful around her if you ever meet her." Syn then turns to her brother and his clone as they show off in an almost annoying manner. At least in Syn's mind it's annoying, but that's probably due to Abyss being her brother. It's a sibling thing.
> " I am speaking with an interesting if not unpredictable stray out > here if you two want to talk to another and get your feet on more > solid ground, it'd also be fun to surprise him. Not everyone can > make pretty girls appear from voids you know."
Sonya grins at the implicit compliment, though of course it’s more directed to Teresa’s body than her own, and acknowledges the subtle hint. "Absolutely… you’re just full of surprise talents, aren’t you?"
A few moments later she steps out of Abyss’ portal and back into the cafeteria, where Abyss’ body is sitting with an unfamiliar-looking redhead. She takes a quick look at herself in a nearby mirror, relieved that she’s still wearing Teresa’s body, and waves a silent greeting. "I’ll be back in a bit," she mumbles, suddenly hungry… "Just going to grab some food. Can I bring you guys anything?"
"Though I'd like for us to have a family discussion we can do that later. You know I enjoy surprising people my dear brother. Let us see who this so called stray is." Syn moved towards the portal and stepped out onto the solid floor of the canteen. She then looked to see who her brother was talking about and her eyes light up as she spotted Voltaire. Their previous meeting had left the man in a rather uptight mood. Syn was very interested in finding out what sort of mood he would be in now. "Hello again."
The red man didn't even answer his question. He found it rather bizare and went back to his tea. Suddenly a woman stepped out of nowhere. Voltaire was suprised as he never seen this happening.
"I’ll be back in a bit," she mumbles, suddenly hungry… "Just going to grab some food. Can I bring you guys anything?"
With a suprising look on his face Voltaire said:"No thank you." He started thinking about all kinds of possibilities from where she came. "Could be a teleporter or something" he thought. "Or inviseble"
Suddenly a second woman appeared out of nowhere. He knew her all to well. It was Syn, the woman he got into a rather harsh argument in. He was suprised that she even said hello to him. "You again" He said as he Tightend his grip around his cup. A little spark shot down his hand. "Come to convince me again that i should be locked up in some prison." He said a with a bit of anger and sarcasm in his voice
Voltaire's statement and reaction to Syn's apparance made the wicked girl smile. "I'm glad I'm not easily forgetten." Syn winked to Voltaire before answering her brother's question even though it was asked to the sparky man. "We were having a discussion not long ago about wild mutan powers. I was merely toying with him, but he apparently doesn't have a sense of humor."
