The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"I can get up any time, but is half ten the same as nine thirty or ten thirty?" Either way, it would be later than she normally had to get up for school, so it wouldn't be a problem.
He stood up, ready to leave, so she stood up as well.
"Oh, and thank you again for the key, and letting me play your oboe, and telling me a story, and answering all my questions."
Spontaneously, she decided to give him a hug and threw her arms around his middle. Since he was leaving, and she might not get the chance to do so again for awhile. Besides, she had heard somewhere that a person needed seven hugs a day to stay emotionally healthy, and she was way behind in her hug count the last few days.
“By half ten I mean half past ten,” Hunter clarified, “or ten thirty. And you are more than welcome on all accounts.” He was about to exit when Katrina hugged him unexpectedly. At first he was a little taken a back, but it also brought back memories of back when Paragon was young.
Returning the hug he couldn’t help but wish that he hadn’t made so many mistakes with Paragon, and that they could have moments like this. Perhaps in time she would come around. However, there were currently bigger issues to deal with than his family issues. Breaking the hug he gave Katrina a warm smile before saying, “See you tomorrow,” and exiting.
He wondered what impression Paragon would make on Katrina, and Katrina on Paragon. There was the risk that Paragon’s feelings about him and the more detailed recount of her past would turn Katrina against him, but conversely Katrina might help warm Paragon to him. One way or another he’d find out tomorrow morning.
As Hunter left, Katrina walked over to the music shelf and removed the Benjamin Britain piece she had seen earlier; Six Metamorphoses after Ovid, for unaccompanied oboe. It seemed an appropriate song for all of the changes she was going through, and she would herself be unaccompanied for awhile. Next she strode confidently over to the cabinet that held Hunter's oboe, the king of oboes, called Othello in Katrina's mind. She took it out and prepared to play.
She felt a new sense of responsibility and purpose. She would be helping the resistance, which would require her to practice her illusions. The more she practiced, the better off the resistance fighters would be when they actually had to fight. She wanted them all to return in one piece, so she would practice her hardest.
She opened up the music to the first page. It was difficult music. The first movement was about Pan, a god who fell in love with a nymph called Syrinx. She did not return his love and fled from his advances. She fled to the river, where she prayed to the river god and her sister nymphs to save her. As Pan was about to grasp her in his arms, Syrinx was transformed into marsh reeds, and Pan was left holding only the reeds. He bound them together and made them into a flute, which he played in her memory.
Katrina would start learning the music slowly, she would add the imagery slowly until it matched the beauty of the song. She focused on the music and imagined just the smell of the forest and the river, took a deep breath of the fresh air, and began to play from the beginning.
Katrina played for an hour before both her lips and her brain were exhausted from the oboe playing and the illusions. She had made good progress towards learning the music and developing a simple illusion that went along with it. The key signature of the piece was difficult for her, but more difficult was trying to get the different parts of the illusion to work together. Every time she tried to add a second sense to the first one of smell, it went away. The last time though, she thought she could see some patches of leaf filtered sunlight while she could still smell the woods. It was small but it was progress.
She hadn't realized how tired she was until she had put Loren and Othello away in their respective wood and glass instrument cases. She would have no trouble sleeping tonight. She dragged her feet a little on the way back to her room and when she got there she picked out an outfit for the next day, set her alarm, and was asleep as soon as her head touched the pillow.
Her dreams tonight were filled with sunlit groves, the smells of fresh leaves and waters carried on cool breezes, and sounds of beautiful pan pipes and oboes floating through the warm air.
