The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Nicki smiled as she walked into the library and inhaled deeply. She hadn't seen much of the mansion, even though she had been there for quite a bit now, but this place already felt like home. If she did end up moving in with Kaz, this would be the place she missed most.
Strolling over to the martial arts section (she thought it would be fun if she knew a little more about karate and judo so she could at least attempt to keep up with Kaz) Nicki smiled and looked around happily. The library truly was a sight to behold and it felt good to see people sitting around reading real books rather than just magazines.
Nicki started to pass the classics sections and stopped, ducking into the stacks. She couldn't walk by Orwell and Huxley and Stevenson! What kind of reader would that make her?
She smiled as she started thumbing through the titles.

It was inevitable that Neena's explorings would eventually bring her to the Mansion's library. She wasn't a reader by nature; very few books managed to hold her attention span through the end. But there were certain ones that did keep her mind focused. And she was ecstatic to find one of them among the myriads of shelves. It was on the top shelf, and dusty, but it was there.
"'A Gest of Robyn Hode'. You rock, Mr. X!" Neena grinned. Perhaps it seemed a little silly, but the thirty-year-old had no problems admitting that the time-honored thief of Sherwood Forest was her idol, even if he was, in reality, quite a different man than what Disney and other children's tales would like people to believe.
She blew the dust off of the cover, coughing a bit. The text was written in old Elizabethian English. Rather than climb back down, Neena continued upward, planting a foot on one shelf to propel herself to the top of the book shelf. It was sturdy enough to hold her weight, so she lay on her back, holding the book above her to read. With her free hand she reached down and idly fiddled with some of the other books.
She was on the second set of tales when she pulled a book too far out. She turned slightly on her side and leaned over to watch it fall.
"Glad no one was under that..." she remarked aloud.
As she moved to turn back to her reading, she noticed someone at the other end of the isle. She adjusted her sunglasses, then called out, "Careful! Its raining books over here! A real brainstorm." She smiled to show she was teasing, making a mental note not to fiddle with the books unless she was sure no one was below her.

Nicki was shocked out of her world as the book hit the floor, looking up to the top of the shelves. She laughed at the brainstorm remark and moved closer to the woman who seemed to have scaled the stacks with such ease.
"Um...you know that there are chairs right over towards the front of the entrance? And some at the back..." Nicki raised her eyebrow as she looked up to the woman above her.

"Um...you know that there are chairs right over towards the front of the entrance? And some at the back..."
Neena grinned. "Oh yeah, I know. But I was already almost all the way up anyway, so I figured, why trudge all the way back down? Plus its usually pretty quiet up here. Can't figure why though."
She sat up, looking down. She paused for a moment, guaging the distance down, and decided to take the quickest way down. She put the book in her back pack, and leaned over until she looked about ready to fall off, then let it go. It landed with a dull thud, rather loud in the quiet. Then she gripped the edge of the top of the shelf, lowering herself till she dangled, then let go. She let her knees buckle a bit as she landed, and fell back on her rear. She stood up dusting herself off, then held out her hand, still smiling happily.

Nicki laughed as the woman fell from the top of the shelf. The woman, Neena, acted younger than Nicki did. She shook the woman's hand, smiling. "Nicki Thomas."
Nicki rubbed the back of her neck slightly. This was the awkward part of the conversation in Nicki's mind. She didn't know how to make small talk. But she had to talk to people. Had to. And this woman seemed nice, if not a little loopy.
"So um...you're clearly not a student here. Teacher than?" Nicki asked.

"Nicki, eh? Nice. Always been partial to 'N' names. But then again, I'm biased, for obvious reasons." She chuckled a bit and retrieved her pack, pulling out the book to inspect it for damage.
"So um...you're clearly not a student here. Teacher than?"
"Yep. Teacher, greeter, comedy relief. Whichever you may need at the time." she replied with an easy grin. "I'm new, just came in the other day. I usually haunt the Danger Room, but I figured I should actual take a tour of the rest of the Mansion.
"And you? Are you a student here?"
Nicki seemed a bit nervous, so Neena took off her glasses so she could see her eyes, in an effort to make her feel at ease. She'd learned over the years that people became uneasy when they couldn't see your eyes when they were talking to you. She blinked a bit at the light, but as it wasn't direct sunlight, she would be okay.

Nicki smiled as Neena formally introduced herself. She seemed to be as awkward as Nicki was but less uptight about it. Nicki relaxed noticeably.
So this woman was going to be one of her teachers? And since she was hanging out in the Danger Room is seemed she would be one of the people training her. Nicki liked that idea....another dork in the Danger Room put Nicki at ease.
"Um, yeah, I'm a student. Bit on the new side myself, though hardly as new as you are." Nicki laughed a little, looking around. "As a matter of fact, I feel with all these new people that I'm one of the more senior members of this school," Nicki chuckled again nervously, adjusting her glasses.
Nicki watched as Neena took off her specks, squinting as the woman did the same. She didn't need to take off her glasses...in fact, she may not have wanted too. Nicki bit her lip lightly, shifting her weight from one foot to the other.
"Can you see okay?" Nicki asked, raising an eyebrow. "Cause um...it seems like something's bothering you with your glasses being off..." Nicki quieted herself a little. She had to remember that a lot of people didn't like when she got in their heads.

"Ah! Good to know. Now I know who to track down when I get lost. Though I suppose if I'm lost, tracking you down might be hard, wouldn't it?" She attempted a comical frown.
"Can you see okay? Cause um...it seems like something's bothering you with your glasses being off..."
"Oh yeah, I can see just fine. As a matter of fact I can see a lot more than necessary. Sunlight tends to be a bit of a bother, but I'm okay in here."
Neena tilted her head slightly. Nicki seemed to be getting more nervous, rather than less; she was fidgeting anyways. She was trying to figure out what had her on edge, but couldn't for the life of her guess. She tried to put as much warmth and easiness into her expression as possible.
"Mind if I be nosy and ask what kind of reading drew you here today? Not too many kids your age are into the classics. At least, I know I wasn't when I was a teen."
<"Maybe a familiar subject would help her calm down a bit,"> she thought to herself.

Nicki laughed as Neena started joking about getting lost. And while Nicki didn't know the woman all that well, it still seemed like one of those things that could happen.
"You said you could see more than needed? Is that your power?" Nicki asked, trying not to pry but apparently this was a typical conversation in the mansion. She supposed it made sense, since it was the one thing that they all had in common, but it was still an odd thing to think of as "breaking the ice" conversation.
"Oh, as for reading material I actually came down here to look at the martial arts section but..." Nicki smiled and looked around the stacks happily. "I'm a bit of a book worm and it's slightly impossible for me to walk past this section. I love these books so much..." she smiled.

"You said you could see more than needed? Is that your power?"
Neena nodded. She crossed her arms and leaned against the nearest shelf. "Yep, that it is. I have no idea about the technical explanation, but I'm guessing it has something to do with how my eyes interpret light waves. Either way, I see in various ways, things like heat, ultraviolet, telescopic, microscopic, and a few others. I think I have night vision too, but I can see pretty well in the dark without it, so I don't use it very often. That's why I keep these handy," she tapped on her sunglasses lightly.
She tilted her head the other way. "And how 'bout you? What brought you here? Besides the books, I mean."
"Oh, as for reading material I actually came down here to look at the martial arts section but... I'm a bit of a book worm and it's slightly impossible for me to walk past this section. I love these books so much..."
Neena chuckled a bit. "That's good to hear. I'll be you're a great student then. Wish I had been. Most I can ever get into are things about Robin Hood. And Robinson Crusoe." She grinned and shrugged her shoulders in an apologetic gesture. "Do you have a favorite author?
"Martial arts, eh? Do you take lessons at all, or have a favorite art?"

Nicki smiled as Neena continued to explain her powers. Although the conversation was slightly awkward for her, she really did like hearing what people had the ability to do. And she hadn't heard anything about eye sight before.
"Oh, well I have the ability to absorb information. Like, I could read any of these books in a moment, just by touching it. Similarly, I can take in information that people give off. It's been compared to telepathy but it's nothing that strong...just surface stuff, emotions, that kind of thing..."
Nicki smiled at the author question. "You opened up such a can of worms" she chuckled. "I like Huxley and King the most probably, but I love Mary Shelley, Robert Louis Stevenson," Nicki smiled pointedly, "I mean, I read basically anything that's good."
Nicki laughed as she saw that she had gotten to Neena's happy place. "I know Karate failry well, but I'm not really good at too many things. My boyfriend, he doesn't go here but he's a mutant, he knows freaking every martial art known to man or something ridiculous like that so yeah...but me, only Karate. What about you? I bet you know a bunch since you're leader of the danger room"

Neena whistled in appreciation. "Man, wish I'd had that ability in school. And when I was dating..."
"I like Huxley and King the most probably, but I love Mary Shelley, Robert Louis Stevenson,"
Neena grinned at her pointed smile. "Now him I recongnize. Loved Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde."
"I mean, I read basically anything that's good."
"Wow! Do you ever get overloaded? That much reading would send my brain spinning."
"I know Karate failry well, but I'm not really good at too many things. My boyfriend, he doesn't go here but he's a mutant, he knows freaking every martial art known to man or something ridiculous like that so yeah...but me, only Karate. What about you? A rather comical expression crossed Neena's face, though there was no hint of embarassment.
"No, I know very little about the martial arts, except that I love watching others perform them. I prefer to stay out of direct combat. I actually grew up as a thief. Old habits die hard, you know? No, the reason they put me in the Danger Room is because I'm certifiably insane. Or so they tell me," she replied, trying to keep a straight face. She didn't explain herself, as she was curious to see how Nicki reacted to that statement. It always amazed her the gambit of reactions she got from people, even other mutants.

(OOC: hope you girls don't mind me joining in? )
Ted walked into the library, feeling as if he owned it an apology. It had gotten pretty beaten up during his fight with Michael, but it was looking better now. He walked idly amoung the shelves, trailing his finger along the spines of the books whilst waiting for something to catch his eye.
He spotted a couple of people seeming to have a conversation, and decided to join in. He vaguely recognised the younger one, but the other he hadn't seen before at all. He wandered over to them, still trailing a finger along the books. "Hey there, I'm Ted." He removed the finger form the books and used the hand to give a small wave.

Nicki smiled as another person walked over to their conversation. Although she was starting to get much more comfortable with Neena, it was always good to have another student on the case.
Although, honestly, she didn't know this one all that well. She had run into him during the situation with Iris, but they hardly knew each other. His name was Ted. He passed out when Raina was in trouble.
"Ted this is Neena. She's running the Danger Room"

"Hey there, I'm Ted."
Neena waved back and the new arrival, and held out her hand to shake. "A pleasure to meet you Ted." She whistled quietly. "What are they feeding you boys 'round here? I have yet to meet one of you shorter than me."
"Ted this is Neena. She's running the Danger Room"
She grinned at Nicki's introduction. "I just tell the computer what to do, is all, and let the students take it from there. Speaking of which, I'm looking forward to seeing you both there eventually. Nicki, perhaps you can teach me a thing or two about self defense that doesn't include running or hiding from your opponent." Though she was mostly teasing, that last statement had been serious.
