The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

People were turning into kids left and right, and Becca was... Becca was still very pregnant with like, a real baby with real powers, and it wasn't like that whole thing was freaking Maya out at all. Nope. But she was also not going to take her currently-metallic pregnant girlfriend (irony) to the field for a mission, after the whole "dinosaurs in Antarctica" thing.
Still, with most X-men underage or scattered, Maya did need backup for this mission.
God help me.
The mirrorwalker, dressed in her X-men uniform, bow and arrows and utility belt and all, banged on Sam's door, hoping Teen Sam was not going to give her any sass, for once.

Sam jumped upright rocketing the cat from his chest to the floor she let out a low growl and then hopped back on the bed next to Bruno. ”Sorry Cam.” Bruno it seemed was used to him jumping out of bed the dog slept like a rock. The iceman looked over to the door not familiar with the female voice. He frowned and then hopped out of bed. ”Mission? Do we?” he answered the door in his boxers-briefs.
”So we do.” he said as he leaned up on the door-frame folding his arms. His eyes trailed the woman from top to bottom then focused back on her bow. ”Artemis or cupid?” he asked wondering what her name was. For the most part Sam hadn’t been on any X-Man sanctioned missions. Most of the stuff he was doing was beating the tar out of some small town crooks.
”Not sure we met. You must be here for my older self. We might be able to work something out though.” he said gesturing with his thumb behind his back.
Sam was not the first person on Maya's list to take along on a mission. He was de-aged, annoying, and did not know his... whatever. But the roster was scarce, and his powers were going to be useful. Maya just hoped the badass Sam used to be was still in there somewhere. Or... already. Time travel was weird.
>>”Mission? Do we?... So we do.”
He was in boxers. Great start. Maya was eager to get going, so his first look of appreciation did not even register.
>>”Artemis or cupid?”
Maya blinked.
"Skadi." she reached out, flicking Sam's forehead with her fingers "Focus, Sam."
>>”Not sure we met. You must be here for my older self. We might be able to work something out though.”
Maya blinked again.
Oh. ... Oh, for f**********s sake.
"Name is Maya. We know each other. Get your scrawny ass in a uniform, Chibi Sam, and let's get rolling."

Clearly she knew him, between the flick to the forehead and the short comment he wasn’t sure which one to comment on first. Instead he looked to her as if he wanted to add to something as he went to get his uniform. ”X-men uniform right?” Sam asked as he gestured towards his boxers, ”Cause this is my other one.” he smirked and started to change not really caring that Maya was in clear sight.
Sam didn’t try it on nor did he want to but he was sleeping so he wasn’t really doing anything too important. Once he was in his uniform he shifted his weight from side to side trying to get a feel for the pants. ”Little snug,” he looked down to his skintight shit and shrugged, ”Does this mean I get to fly the jet again?” he smirked as he walked out of his room calling to the pets, ”Don’t wait up.”
>> ”X-men uniform right? Cause this is my other one.”
Maya tended to forget how much of a pain in the ass Sam used to be, back before he grew a conscience and some maturity. This mission was going to be an even bigger pain, especially if he kept flirting with her. Underwear, indeed. As if she had not seen all of that before.
"Wrong tree, Sam. Wrong f*** forest."
>>”Little snug. Does this mean I get to fly the jet again?”
"Definitely not" Maya quipped, walking down the hallway, trusting Sam to follow, if not out of duty then out of curiosity. She led the way down to the hangar where the jet waited ready to fly. "The coast guard got a distress signal from a small cruise ship caught up in a storm. The weather is too bad for normal rescue ops, so they called us in to do the heavy lifting. I'm hoping your powers and mine can do the trick and we can get everyone to safety before the ship sinks. If you have reservations, speak up now. I don't want to take you on a mission you are not ready for."

Sam followed like a good solider once he was dressed he kept over extending strut as he caught up to her trying to make the suit fit in the right places. Eventually it did but not until he added, ”Definitely am.” he had seen the jet started it up and even had lift off before one of the mansion staff came in and started yelling at him to lower the thing.
Honestly Sam should have just opened the doors and took he thing for a joyride. But he was worried he’d be booted from his room and the conveniently placed female population.
”Where are we getting reservations at? Thought it was in the wrong **** forest?” Sam asked with a smirk as he continued following Maya. ”Bad storm, rich people, coast guard needs a hand.” he shrugged. ”Dealt with worse, in fact I have been wondering why no one asked me to go on a mission before.”
If Maya was X-Men she probably knew about his past most of the team knew about his past according to older Sam. ”Water, girrrl. I got this, my element after all.” he said with a shrug, ”Rescues are cake walk.” he said as he started to walk a little faster than Maya the close they got to the jet. He was determined to show off his flying abilities. It was one of the few things he was proud of from his past.
>>”Where are we getting reservations at? Thought it was in the wrong **** forest?”
Maya made a mental note to find the time and break the news to Sam that he was barking up the really, really worst tree he could possibly bark at. But first, she needed to brief him on the mission. Like a professional.
>>”Bad storm, rich people, coast guard needs a hand. Dealt with worse, in fact I have been wondering why no one asked me to go on a mission before.”
"Oh, that's because you make the female team members very, very uncomfortable." Maya noted matter-of-factly. It was more the issue of Sam not having any memories of any X-missions, and also him being a teenage brat, but she was not going to go into that right as she was taking him on a mission anyway.
>>”Water, girrrl. I got this, my element after all. Rescues are cake walk.”
"You better be right, but I'm not taking any chances. And Sam? I swear to god if you try to fly the jet I'm going to put you in a mirror until we get there."

Sam thought about it for a second, wondering what team members she meant. There was Serena and Aly. One he understood but figured he got along with Aly, Maya was another one whom he just met so how did he make her uncomfortable. His ego kicked in and he nodded his hand understanding. He was far better looking than he was when he was older and had one more eye. The women on the team must be uncomfortable because he was so attractive. Yep that was it.
”No chances taken.” Sam said nodding his head dismissing the entire conversation as if there was nothing to worry about because there wasn’t. Sam was handling it.
When she threatened to put him into a mirror he stopped and looked at her. He focused on the woman’s facial features ignoring the rest of her. ”You can try, best flyer the mansion has. Already got a feel for her.”
The power reference was what clued him in. ”Are you related to Gawain by any chance?” Sam asked figuring that they were siblings with the same power set.
As long as Sam took the mission seriously, Maya could deal with the ego. She had practice and experience. But she had to keep an eye out for when his boasting turned into carelessness on the field. There was a difference between throwing out one-liners, and getting into unnecessary danger. The flirting would shut down eventually.
Sam looked at her face again once she mentioned her powers. Oops. She didn't plant that, but oh well.
>>”Are you related to Gawain by any chance?”
"I am Gawain, Sam." Maya smirked as they walked aboard the jet and she took the pilot's seat before he got any ideas. "Welcome back to the team."

Standing with his jaw slightly open he wasn’t sure how to respond to her until she entered the jet. Gawain was a guy… Maya, clearly a woman. The icemancer frowned and then shook his head. Maybe she was a gender shifter as well? He didn’t think much more on it but only called out, ”Awkward… But you got hot.” before climbing into the jet.
Sam frowned and the jet got a little colder as he expressed his irritation because he wasn’t piloting the jet. He was the best the mansion had to offer even if Maya/Gawain could fly there was no way they could keep up with him. He had been trained for years how to fly. ”This is bull@@@@” he finally said as he sat down in the co-piolit chair.
If she wasn’t going to let him fly he was at least going to control the radio. That and chime in every time she didn’t’ do something right. He wanted to make it clear he was the best.
Maya waited until Sam digested the information about her being the same person as Gawain. It took him a few beats, but at least he did not try to argue with the facts, or freak out about flirting with her earlier. Some men did. Sam was still a decent guy at heart.
>>”Awkward… But you got hot.”
"Gender shifting. And I've got a very pregnant girlfriend. So, that's it for the flirting, right?" Maya grinned as she started up the jet, flipping switches and checking screens.
>>”This is bull@@@@”
"Tell you what. The moment I'm convinced you've got your act together, you'll get the jet privileges back. Under supervision."
The flight was not long from the school to the coast, but even before they got over the water, the weather was definitely turning for the worse. The jet handled rough weather well, but the same could not be said for anyone out on the water right now. Maya frowned at the readings. "This is not gonna be pretty."

While he normally would have hit on Maya given there history young Sam did not have said history so when she said that was it for flirting Sam sighed a little disappointed then figured if she had a pregnant girlfriend whom the ice mutant met he figured he’d cool it on the flirting at least what he considered flirting.
”Condolences.” was his first response to Maya having a pregnant girlfriend. He didn’t know if they were trying to have one or not but Sam just assumed babies for anyone he knew was often a mistake they had protection for a reason.
”Fine mom…dad? Under supervision.” Sam mocked and rolled his eyes, ”Got more time in the air than most people have on the ground.” Sam mumbled as he started to shift through the radio till he found a classic rock song he dug.
The storm was indeed bad but with all the water around it made it easier to construct things, less time to pull moisture from the air especially if it continued to rain as it had been. ”If it was pretty we wouldn’t have to be here.” Sam retorted as he stood up from his seat and was about to walk back to the air-drop.
”I can’t lift the ship but I can put some walls around it to try and stabilize it.” he offered, ”Unless you got some other ideas mom.” he had never rescued a cruise ship at least not since he de-aged. Old Sam had done this once or twice usually creating a massive iceberg or manipulating an existing one. ”It is your mission. I’m just here to be supervised.” he mocked again waiting for Maya to give him the go ahead to jump ship.
>>”Fine mom…dad? Under supervision... Got more time in the air than most people have on the ground.”
Maya let him mutter. She knew young Sam had training, but he'd also lost several years of his memories, and that did not usually count as mentally stable. As much as she love Sam, she needed some time to fully trust him as a team member.
>>”If it was pretty we wouldn’t have to be here. I can’t lift the ship but I can put some walls around it to try and stabilize it. Unless you got some other ideas mom. It is your mission. I’m just here to be supervised.”
"Can the sass, we got a job to do" Maya huffed, getting the jet into position. Below them the cruise ship bobbed up and down, tilting dangerously to one side, people in bright life vests swarming on deck. "Can you get down there safely? We need to make sure the ship stable and doesn't sink until we get everyone off it. And I can't put the jet on autopilot in this wind."
”Can I get down there safely? How many jumps have I done?” Sam mocked as he opened the ramp himself and walked to the edge. He didn’t grab anything; a parachute in this wind would have probably killed him after whipping him around like a rag doll.
”Crank the music, I’ll just do all the work!” Sam yelled over the wind as he overkilled a somersault off the ledge into elements not waiting to hear what else Maya had to say. The wind was already muffling everything. Even though he had an earpiece in it would have been hard to hear. The rain smacked his now ice covered face as he turned down towards the water and the ship.
The goal was to get close to the water, not die then start willing the water to create some sort of float to help balance the ship. If they were worried about the ship sinking (which they were) a dome over the deck would have been stupid. Keeping everyone in a locked watery prison would have been a bad guy would do. Sam was a good guy. The best guy.
So the thing that made the most sense to Sam was touch down and try to help lift the boat and the best place to do that was under the boat. Meaning with all this speed he built up he’d get as far down as he could before his ice started to lift him. Even if he created propellers to force him down more it would probably take more time than he had.
Ice started to form on his arms and legs to help stabilize his decent to the water. The wind was strong enough he was actually worried about landing the dive, which was why his stabilizers were so important. When he got close enough to the water he brought his arms up to close the surface area of his dive. It was crucial at this point that he gathered enough air in his now full ice armor to give him some time to do something useful it wasn’t like he could breath underwater.
Glad he fully armored up when he made contact with the surface he managed to hit the wave just right so he could dive at an angle towards the ship. Even under the water the iceman could see the lightning cracking overhead. He hoped he didn’t have enough bad karma to get struck.
Raising his hands and pointing at the parts of the ship he could see he started to turn his powers up to eleven. The water around him started to freeze when the jets of blue exited his hands. He wouldn’t be able to cover the entire bottom of the ship seeing as he couldn’t see the whole thing but he could at least make it so there was some sort of stabilizer to help lessen the rocking.
>>”Can I get down there safely? How many jumps have I done? Crank the music, I’ll just do all the work!”
Young Sam's style would have been insufferable if he did not have the skills to back it up. Luckily, the little sh*t did. Maya would have been happier if he paid more attention to sharing information, but in the end, he had the powers and had the training to be darn useful in this situation.
Also, he didn't need a parachute.
Maya brought the jet around lower, trying to see what was happening below. As long as Sam was underwater, their comm wouldn't work because he couldn't talk. She watched as white and blue shapes formed along the body of the tilting ship; people must have been shouting, but the roar of the storm was too loud. Slowly, ever so slowly, the ship seemed to stabilize in the midst of its own little floating iceberg. Not completely encased, but buoyant for the moment.
"Sam? Sam, stop hitting on the Little Mermaid and come up for air. Sam?"
