>> “I truly understand, the uniform has been given a bad rap by the failings of its own system.
Devon nodded slowly, holding a comment on his tongue.
>> “…The MRC is here to change that by helping mutants, not persecute them. We will do whatever it takes to make mutants feel safe. All officers will be volunteers on their own time, but they will still be armed. While we want mutants to feel safe, we can't put officers lives at risk.”
“Of course not,” Devon agreed though his tone was firm as he added, “Though even those with concealed carry permits and allowance must be careful at all times.” A complicated feeling both offended and agreeably disheartened ran through the young man, presumably complicated enough that it lingered as Franklin continued.
>> “We can leave whenever you are ready. I have no other meetings today, so I am all yours.”
Franklin stood, taking the initiative that Devon had put forth. Devon quickly typed something on his phone as he stood and pushed his chair in. “Great,” he smiled gently, “I’m glad you care enough to check it out. If there’s no problem we can drive over, but if you have to take your car that’s fine too.” He started walking, heading out the door and back down the hall.
“I wanted to say. Symbols have power and a uniform is a symbol of an organization. It’s unfortunate that sometimes they are perverted. The swastika once meant good fortune to all who saw it,” Devon explained. “Though perhaps you know that. The Nazis merely took it for their own use. Anyway, I see the police as a group of people dedicated to the laws and protection of our society. Of course, like any group: it’s made of people and people are fallible, have their own issues, etc. What matters it they try and clearly the MRC is an excellent example of wanting to help, to be engaged.”
