The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She turned from looking at the menu to arching a brow at him. Why hadn't she been on a date before? The screams of terror from all of her previous interactions with high school boys echoed in the back of her head.
"Eh, Wasn't really interested in it for a while and then when I was most of the guys I knew were mostly terrified of me." She cracked her knuckles and chuckled. "Kinda hard to get dated when everyone owes ya stuff, and if they don't pay up I'd punch en so hard future generations would feel it."
When the waitress came back she ordered a black coffee and some pancakes, just as she had mentioned earlier. As Erik had intended, she didn't notice him scooching closer until his leg and arm were touching hers.
When she did notice, she went suddenly stiff and very red, eyebrows creasing as she tried to remember if he had scooted in that close at the very beginning or if he had been inching closer without her realizing. Eventually, she gave up on pondering. Two could play at that game!
Elke pressed back stubbornly, her jaw set as she started a silent battle for bench space. "Guess you took my elbow fight warning as a suggestion, a Red?"
She was still blushing, but with her usual impish nature peeking through a wry grin.

"Sounds like quite the racket.. and a school full of guys that didn't know how to fight." He gave a little shrug. "I wouldn't know anything about schools though." The waitress arrived before he could say more. He made a face at the coffee selection as it was not a choice he would have made.
He ordered himself some fancy banana cream pancakes, four strips of bacon and strawberry texas french toast with orange juice to drink. The thoughtful look on his face indicating he had considered ordering more, but couldn't find anything else or wasn't sure if he could eat anything extra. Shorty after the waitress left he had completed his journey across the bench. Her reaction was indeed worth it and wondered just how someone could get that stiff. Of course the blush was expected at this point, but the thoughtful look could have been anything.
Then he felt pressure against him as she pushed back and gave a bit of ground until he matched her force with his own. A devilish grin blossomed on his face. "Maybe. Though maybe I thought you were serious and decided the benefits outweighed whatever violence you might attempt." Giving a little laugh as he leaned into her a little harder. No point in letting the conversation fall behind though.
"So what else did you do with your childhood besides bully and extort everyone?" There was no judgemental tone to the question just genuine curiosity. "I was homeschooled most of my school years so I missed out on the whole bad American sitcom experience I seem to catch on TV when I bother to turn it on. No Breakfast Club moments for me. As I got older I was too busy with other things to worry about dates either." Sharing a bit about himself to try and draw her out.
He pushed back, so she locked one of her feet against the bottom wall under the table to hold her ground. She was careful not to push too hard though, as she wasn't actively trying to knock him out of the booth.
She struggled to shrug the shoulder she was pressing into him in response to his questions. "Eh, schools overrated. So is TV." She managed to take a sip of her coffee surprisingly well despite her current power struggle.
"I didn't do school until a few years ago. My folks didn't bother with it, so I didn't either. Spent all my time in the woods or bummin around the city." She thought back to those years fondly. Just her and her clones running from place to place doin whatever they wanted to do in that moment.
"An X picked me up after I got in some trouble and I ended up at the school. Had to play catch up on classes and junk, and now here I am." She cut into her breakfast and snuck a bite in, still refusing to relent any of her claimed space.
"I make a pretty penny on the side fixing math homework for other kids at my school." She didn't outright ask him a question in return as she was still chewing, but she did turn her head to look at him with a question plain on her face.
... She also noticed just how close her face was to his because of the turf war and her flush renewed its color.

Their little battle raged on as she talked and he just worked to maintain the status quo. Unwilling to give ground and not wanting to shove her into the wall either. Thus far she hadn't used her elbow, but that didn't mean she wouldn't. Her words providing a welcome insight to her nonstandard raising, a trait he shared as well. "I think it would have been nice to develop those relationships people do in a school setting." Explaining a bit his own feelings since he hadn't had a choice in the matter. He doubted anyone who went to school enjoyed it except those annoying preppy socialites that turned them into personal fiefdoms.
It didn't seem like much had changed for her, and wanted to say as much, but kept quiet to allow her to complete her spiel without interruption. Their food and drinks arrived and he grumbled some. He wasn't ambidextrous enough to use his the hand that wasn't busy fighting the playful war they had going on. Managing a sip of his Oj with his offhand was easy enough but cutting would be a more interesting notion. Making a face as she mentioned the xmen and their school. "You mean paid tutoring." Giving her a wink before chuckling some.
As she turned to look at him he looked as well and noticed the flush, which of course made him turn color as well. "What? Am i making you uncomfortable? We can stop.." Giving her an out if she wanted and that was where the original line of thinking ended before an evil thought came to mind. Ugh why was she so pretty? "Or you worried I am going to kiss you?" He mocked a gasp and got closer to her face and spoke low. "Or is it you want me to kiss you?" He hoped he sounded far more confident then he really felt. Swearing it sounded a bit shaky to him and hoped she couldn't feel his suddenly hard beating heart through their connection. 'Why the hell did you say that you moron?!' The little voice in his head screaming bloody murder. The outside calm he was projecting hiding a internally panicking Erik.
hah! Paid tutoring. S'funny. "Yeah, well they suck at it. Teachers, there are annoying and nosey and the school gets broken into all the time." She shooed away bad memories with a scowl, but it was harder to scare off the feeling of hands on her shoulders. A bad memory that would no doubt haunt her for a while.
Then came the staring and blushing. He joked about making her uncomfortable and before she could come up with a snappy response started talking about kissing again. Then the elbow came into play. She had to physically turn her face away while it deepened in color and stop herself from shrieking at him in a shrill voice about how she still wasn't kissing on a first date.
She stabbed at her food with her fork.
"Why you so focused on kissin anyways?" She hadn't ever really kissed anyone before for the sake of kissing. She'd kissed a few cheeks and one time she'd kissed a guy she knew because he wasn't sure if he liked girls... but not because she wanted to or like someone enough to want to. She thought back to what Erik kept saying. How pretty she was.
A devilish little smirk curled up her lips and she looked back to him.
"Maybe it's you who wants to kiss me, and wants me to kiss you?"

There was an inquisitive eyebrow at the scowl, but he wanted to keep things light so didn't chase that down. She was the second person he had met that had said the school wasn't that great which didn't help his already poor preconceived notions of the place.
Erik grunted as the elbow slammed into him. Figuring it was still totally worth it while it lasted. Knowing full well he had earned that one. He opened his mouth to respond to her question and she hit him with an uppercut. This time it was his turn to blush and he looked away some. He did seem focused on it didn't he? It had been meant as a tease to her previous reactions or at least that is what he told himself. In the end he just ended up smiling and looking back at her, blushing face and all and replied truthfully, "In all honesty, probably." Before trying to shake off his own tension with a small chuckle at his own perceived foolishness. His stomach grumbled and he swore to himself. Hungry and hormones all crazy, attacked from within on all fronts.
He slowly relented the pressure against her so she wouldn't just flop over when he scooted away before doing just that so he could eat. If he was going to retreat for any reason he figured it would be his need for food. So figuring he had lost that battle he planned on winning the war as he set into his own food in a quick and efficient manner. After a moment he realized he hadn't answered the implied question and cleared his throat with some orange juice.
He sort of half stared off into space as he told his own mini story. "Was only in school a few years before finding out I was a mutant. It is a bit different in Russia, more like how the 90's were here. Was homeschooled since then. Mom got sick around when I was twelve, have never met my Dad. Started working and doing jobs at 12. Most anything that would pay good to try and get her the best treatment we could. Money paves the way afterall. By the time I was 16 I was doing fairly well doing small time stuff and underground fighting. Uncle had taught me how to fight and speak English really good by then. One day on the way home from a fight I got stabbed. Got Red for the first time." He shrugged as she could probably guess the aftermath. "Too much trouble staying home so I ended up here before I could end up an experiment in some Russian Government lab." He paused as he thought on it before shrugging again and smiling at her. "Stuff between the lines of course but that's the highlight reel."
Elke buried herself in her food to avoid the fact that she didn't have a good comeback for his admission.
She kept an ear open for his story as she ate, pausing when he started talking about his mom being sick and abandoning the food altogether as he wrapped it up. She wasn't terribly hungry anymore.
"... What happened to your mum?"
She tried to keep her tone calm despite the anger boiling in her gut. The states were bad when it came to mutant and human scuffles, but... not quite that bad. Stories about mutant suffering angered her just as much as stories of what her people went through did. Human nature seemed constantly intent on making damn sure on history repeating itself over and over again.
She reached for one of his hands to give it a squeeze, no longer fixated on blushing and hormones. They were both mutants, he had suffered because of it. They shared that in common on some level.
"Can't promise that the same @#$% won't happen here, but I can promise that there are a lot of us who won't stand for it. Groups pop up all the time thinking they can look down on us because'a what we are. This city ain't shy about putting 'em right back in their @#$%in' place."

Erik knew the question was coming. The very few people he bothered to tell anyone about it always had the same reaction. As much as he danced around the depressing subject to not have to say it. If she stuck around for longer then tonight it wasn't like she wouldn't find out eventually.
"Cancer eventually got her." He wasn't sure what to say beyond that. Anyone who had ever watched a loved one slowly waste away would probably understand his mixture of relief and grief at her passing. Did he say that he missed her? Everyone missed the people they lost. The hand given to him was squeezed a bit as he kept himself from thinking too much about it.
He smiled at her impassioned words and found himself shrugging. "The ignorance of human beings comes as no surprise. I am not too worried about myself. Retaliation against my family was the main concern. Here?" Erik waved a hand. "Here I just intend on being apart of that group of people that boots the boot to anyones a$# I think deserves it." It may take him more then a few pairs of boots to make sure that happened, but boots were cheap. He ate as he talked, food was as important to him as the company he was keeping. After a moment he looked at her.
"Us huh? No physical traits so that comes in handy when your trying to blend. Unlike present company." He grinned at her even as he worked on finishing every last scrap of his food. "Im guessing if you spent your childhood roaming around your own home life wasn't that stellar?" Venturing a guess with a gentle probe. Conscious and phrasing it in such a way she could deflect the question easily without it feeling too awkward. "My family was closer then alot I see these days. Shared a room with a cousin for the longest time. Couple of older great uncles and such around. Holidays were crazy." Grinning a bit before exhaling slowly and turning to regard her.
He found the question suddenly more difficult to ask and ended up scratching his cheek with his other hand. "Say, do you want to exchange phone numbers?" Erik could think of half a dozen far smoother ways from movies he could think of on how to ask, but it seemed way to ingenuine for his tastes, lacking a personal touch.
She nodded her head at him slightly, understanding but not really feeling like anything needed to be said. She'd still been kinda small when she had lost her grandpa, but she knew what it felt like at least.
"Ain't got no need for a visible mutation. I'm proud as @#$% of my genes."
... still, she didn't want to show him her clones at the moment. They tended to run slow and embarrassed her at the worst times. SHe could just imagine one screaming 'She wants to touch your booty!', and then Elke would have to murder her in a cafe and get blood on her pancakes.
She shrugged a shoulder at her own family issues. "Ma and pa got divorced when I was little. never got back together. Neither one really wanted us kids, so me and my brothers just kinda did whatever we wanted. My brothers are older, and one of them snagged himself a good job early so he helped out."
She sighed wistfully, leaning her head back on the seat. "Grandpa always looked after me, taught me how to shoot and skin animals and carve things in sticks. He passed away when I was still young... and then it was just me."
He asked about swapping phone numbers and she nodded, patting one pocket for a moment before remembering that she had swapped her old phone for something a kid on the streets had, just to get back at her dad for being an ass. She hoped he had fun tracking down some random stranger through gps.
"Ehhh..heheh... forgot I don't actually have a phone at the moment. I could take your number though, call you when I have access."
Her face tuened a little red again, slightly embaressed at not having aphone and slightly from thinking about calling him. Jesus, she was bad at this dating @#$%!

Erik blinked at her very heartfelt proclamation then chuckled and nodded some.
"I can say mine have been very handy at times at least." He certainly wouldn't go so far as to say he was proud of them, but he did consider fellow mutants as an extended family. Erik figured jealousy played into normal human's reactions quite a bit. He even found himself envying other people's powers at times despite how often his own had staved off death.
As she started talking about her home life he found himself watching her again. Seeing how her emotions played across her face and extended into her body language. Heck even as just an excuse to look at her and not feel awkward or like he was going to weird her out about it. He was a very rapt listener and took the time to drink some more OJ since it wasn't his turn to talk.
"That is really cool. I have never hunted like that before." Knowing that probably sounded odd he quickly followed it up. "Uncle taught me some survival stuff from the military is about all. Nothing all that in depth about hunting." Good save Erik.
As the phone conversation rolled around he eyed her with a bit of a squint before smirking. The blush really gave away she wasn't lying.. at least he hoped and he ended up blushing again as well. "If it is not too forward.." He rummaged into a pocket of his backpack and pulled out black phone with a small crack on it and offered it to her. Erik thought about explaining why he had a spare burner phone, but figured he would just let that one alone until she asked. If she took the phone he would give her his number with a smile accompanied by a rosy tinge. "You can call me whenever you want. I don't sleep so anytime is fine. If i don't answer it is because I can't." Figuring she would understand his handicap of having hug fingers or being busy with whatever he was up to. That wasn't too desperate sounding was it? It didn't make him sound too much like he would be eagerly awaiting the very moment his phone rang and hoping it was her would he?
The server rescued him from his thinking by coming buy and he paid for both their meals in cash and gave the server a good tip. Not in any grand hurry he leaned back into his seat "What do you do when your not staying up way past curfew? For fun I mean?" A grin spreading on his face at the gentle tease.
"You ain never hunter?! You don't know what you're missing out on!" She made up her mind on the spot that she would be teaching him at some point. She had a spare bow and quite the collection of arrows.
She accepted the phone with a blink of recognition, turning it over in her hand and followed with a chuckle. Did everyone in the city use the same damn model? Musta been the easiest ones to get a hold of. She didn't shoot him suspicious or knowing look, instead choosing to withhold commenting and just slip the phone in her pocket.
"Understandable, I mean it's probably the same fo-- wait, what? You don't sleep!? That a figure of speech red, or are you an insomniac?"
Elke tried not to shift guiltily as he paid, seeing as she had been sorta kinda planning on just popping out a clone and booking it. He could use the ole restroom trick and slip out, and no one would be the wiser until someone kicked the clone out or it melted. Instead, he paid and left a huge tip, and she felt like an ass for a minute or two.
She pondered over his question about what she did when she wasn't out pretending to be a hero as they left, stopping once outside to stick her hands in her pockets and answer. "I just graduated high school not long ago, and not due to start classes at NYU yet... will be going for a BMath degree when they start."

"Not in the traditional sense no. Small game with snares and traps." Offering her a smile as he hit a passion of hers he guessed. His own 'hunting' always felt like more of a training exercise with his uncle too with how all the tricks he learned could be scaled up for humans, but that's besides the point. When it helped put more food on the table nobody complained. Thankfully nothing was really mentioned about the phone even if it was the cheapest phone card style phone a person could really get.
In her surprise he found she phrased her next question in a way that seemed strange to him and he just chuckled and shrugged. "I mean it literally? I mean I suppose I could sleep, well nap I guess would be more appropriate if I wanted. Don't need to though. Seems weird to subject yourself to voluntary unconsciousness if you don't need to though..." Sort of rambling as he continued on that train of thought and got lost in it before blushing and shrugging. "So no?" Erik half wondering if he had indeed answered the question amidst his half rambling.
Meandering out into the cooler air he took in a deep breath and gave a little nod. "That Business Math? Want to be an accountant or something?" Giving her a look that said he found that thought hard to believe! "I would like to go for Biochem, but with the whole Red thing I don't think I could make the labs consistently. So it will have to be something I can do entirely online." Shoulders raising and sagging again as that was life. "You want a ride home? I hid my bike not far from here. Bit of a work in progress, but it runs good. Though if you want to remain anonymous on that front I understand too." True enough he had hid his junkyard built motorcycle just a few alleys over under a pile of garbage bags cause he was paranoid like that. It was the only real reason he even knew the breakfast place existed. He hoped she would take him up on his offer as it felt early to seperate, but he also figured he would feel that way regardless of when the bittersweet event occured.
She eyed him for a moment at the no sleep thing, before shrugging it off. She just couldn't imagine not sleeping at all. Not feeling the need to... not feeling like murdering someone if you got woken up too early. Heck, even with her grades as they were now, she could only imagine what kinda marks she might have gotten if she didn't have to sleep between studying.
"Well @#$%, I hope you find some classes somewhere because without needing to sleep you'd blow the rest of the students out of the water."
She shook her head slightly at the accounting guess."Do I look like the kinda person who works at a desk job to you? I'd stab someone on my first day." She shrugged again slightly, probably because he had. "I dunno what I want to be yet, but I like math and it's useful in a lot of science-y fields. Gonna just jump in and learn to swim while in there."
Accountant? Blegh. She tried to imagine herself in a pencil skirt and frilly white shirt and just about gagged.
"Eh... I can get home on my own. Gotta pick some stuff up before I get there anyway." She fiddled with the phone in her pocket, unsure about how to go about saying goodbye first dates. Did she just shake his hand and leave? Did they hug?
She shifted onto the balls of her feet slightly like she might dart away any second, before crossing the space between them and planting her lips firmly on his.
Then she was backing away with big steps, hands still in her pockets with a light dusting of a blush on her cheeks. "... Kinda figured rules on dates were lame and junk, so... yeah... see ya around, Red."
She turned her back to him with a swish of her braided hair, trudging off down the street without another word.

"I do not know about that, I tend to end up finding something aside from studying to occupy my time." A slight berating tone directed at himself before he ended up chuckling. "Fair enough I suppose. Not entirely certain either, but I figure it never hurts to know things."
Erik wouldn't mind seeing her in a skirt at some point, but figured the earth would most likely stop rotating before a tomboy like her even considered it. "Sounds good. I will let you get to it." Then there was awkwardness. Much of it. He wasn't sure if she was just going to bolt which left him wondering precisely how he was supposed to say goodbye. So he just held still like someone waiting for a skittish animal to come closer or start prancing away so he could respond. What he did not expect was to get a rather nice kiss on the lips. His eyebrow shooting up in surprise afterwards.
Watching her leave dumbfounded for a few moments before calling to her. "See you around Pancakes." Determined not to use her real nickname as long as possible as he still found it silly. Shaking his head he turned and started walking to where he had stashed his bike with a big smile on his face.
