The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

With a possible solution to her problems on the table, Quin was contemplative. Private Investigators were a unique brand of civilian, and they had an equally unique relationship with the police because of that. They were more accepted and legitimate than most vigilantes, but the premise of their role still amounted to law work outside of the law. When she was a detective, Quin probably had some opinions on Private Investigators, but the redhead was more jaded with the system of law than she had been once upon a time. Maybe she was finally ready to see the appeal of working outside of such rigid constraints.
Evidently, the offer Nate laid out sounded so idyllic, Quin thought he was either speaking in hypotheticals or suggesting a solution in another reality. Rolling his eyes, Nate pressed a hand on Quin’s knee to explain the offer and lay some cards out on the table.
”I’m not talking about rift walking, Quin. I’m sure that commute would be terrible,” he joked, picturing the daily slog through the security checkpoints just to reach the office. ”What I’m trying to say is… I may have the ability to put you in that situation.”
As much as Nate trusted and cared about Quin, he had to pretty up the job offer and leave his role with the organization vague. ”I’ve earned a place on the board of a large humanitarian organization in the city called Haven. We have our hands in a lot of potential ways to improve things. Political activism, community outreach, offering assistance to those in need. We have resources,” he explained, plainly.
It was good that the members of the Inner Echelon worked with some autonomy. Major plans went to the floor of the LIE, but hiring someone on to perform a beneficial role to Haven’s mission was the kind of no-brainer Nate could take it upon himself to do. ”You could take on private clients, but we would offer you compensation to focus on investigative work. New York has a lot of problems, and we need to understand them in order to fix it. If your work falls in line with that goal, you can work pretty independently.” Haven was not looking to hand-hold when they could allow members to handle things on their own.
”Occasionally, there might be specific problems we need someone to look into. If that’s the case, we would be acting as the client assigning you a task.” Nate refrained from the word mission because the last thing he needed was Quin accusing him of turning her into a vigilante. ”Nothing outside of your comfort zone, of course.”
Meeting Quin’s eyes, Nate shrugged his shoulders. ”I know you didn’t come over here expecting to talk business, but I didn’t want you to think you don’t have options.” Nate wondered what kind of response he would earn after dropping a lot of information on an already shell-shocked Quin.

Well, they definitely agreed on one thing...staying in a single reality was a good thing. Quin nodded her head, still mulling over Nate's words. How hard was it to get a PI license in New York these days? Did it require police approval? Were there training classes or tests? The redhead frowned slightly as she thought, it would be a good way to do some of what she had been doing while...
Quin's eyes jerked over to Nate's as he spoke, breaking her train of thought for a moment. He had an in at a large humanitarian organization, one that had even offered him a place on their board. Well, she thought, that explained the fancy apartment. Some of the things he said threw up small red flags...the words "pretty independently" Quin was also curious what kinds of "specific problems" that a humanitarian organization could have that had the potential to be outside someone's comfort zone...but the fact of the matter was, this was a pretty sweet deal.
The redhead laughed, she couldn't help herself. "I guess I never bothered to ask exactly what you were working on these days..." she said. Their time together since the night at the castle had kind of consisted of pretending like work didn't exist and enjoying each other's company. As silly as it sounded, none of this had really ever come up.
"Options are nice...very nice. It wouldn't be weird to kind of work together?" she said. It wasn't an acceptance of the job, Quin was going to look into her options, but the autonomy of a position such as this was attractive.
"Would this humanitarian organization be interested in breaking up a ring of human traffickers who are kidnapping kids, dosing them with M, and then selling them to the highest bidder?" She hadn't given a yes yet...but if this place had the resources to allow her to keep working on her case without the backing of the NYPD...Quin was most likely in.
It took some time for Quin to consider Nate’s offer. The explanation of Haven was vague, but Quin was also smart and curious. He might have said enough to get her wondering, but not enough to get her asking further questions. For the time being, that sounded like a win. Maybe Quin was finally embracing how grey the world was, and how it could sometimes be best to not know how the sausage is made.
Since their reunion in the park, Nate and Quin set aside most business talk. The catalyst for their newer, more casual situation had been a need to escape the frustrations in their lives. When Quin came over, everything was easy and familiar again; why ruin that with life’s problems? Well, until one of them quit their job, but there were exceptions to every rule. ”Yeah, though in fairness, I’m still teaching, so that part wasn’t a lie.” They never got around to talking about Haven before because it never came up. The fact that Nate intentionally avoided bringing it up was another matter entirely.
If Quin took Nate’s offer, she would technically be part of Haven, even if her role was designed with plenty of independence and autonomy. Nate had to acknowledge that he was consciously inviting his ex-girlfriend-with-benefits to work with him. It could become complicated, but he did have a precedent set. ”Well, I work with Nat and I’ve somehow survived that,” he admitted flatly. ”I think I can handle having you around just fine.” That was another thought Nate was not going to think too hard on; when Natalie found out Nate put Quin on the payroll, the potential for a knockdown, drag-out argument was high.
There was no yes yet, but when Quin proposed her first assignment, Nate knew he had her. No one was more passionate about their work than Quin, so being able to continue on the investigation she was taken off of would be like catnip. How could she resist? ”Human rights violations, kidnapped children, and criminal use of M? That sounds like a Haven job to me.”

Quin's head was swimming just the slightest bit, trying to digest everything that had happened over the last several hours. She'd lost her temper, quit her job, then wandered over to Nate's and somehow gotten a new job?
It was a lot to digest.
He didn't seem to think it would be a conflict of interest for them to work together... In fact, Nate pointed out that he was already working with Norah's Mom and he'd managed. Quin made a mental note to ask for more details later, but she wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Nate also didn't seem to think it would be a problem for Quin to continue her current investigation either. She'd need to get in contact with Wong ASAP and make sure he was still on board even if she couldn't provide the NYPD bonus...Drake could deal with all of that paperwork. The redhead had a feeling all would be well on that front...considering their last few encounters, Wong was committed to bringing down the ring.
"It sounds great..." Quin said, voice a bit numb with shock at the whole situation that was starting to unfold, "Where do I send my resume...who do I need to contact?" She could do it tonight, or tomorrow...it wasn't like she had anywhere else to be.
There would be logistics and legal matters to sort out along with a hiring report for Nate to fill out, but it sounded like Quin was on board with Haven. Nate was pleased with himself; he was able to help a close friend out of a bind while still making a sound decision for the organization. He was still sticking his neck out by recruiting Quin if she started pointing her investigative work toward her employer, but he had faith in Devon’s precautions to assure that would not happen. In time, she might even see why some of Haven’s tactics were necessary.
Leaving a kiss on top of Quin’s head, Nate assured her, ”We can handle that tomorrow. I’ll get you the address and our hiring and legal departments will follow up with you. Everything will get rolling fast, but for tonight, I just want you to relax and enjoy knowing you aren’t unemployed and you got to drop the proverbial mic on your old boss.”
From the other room, Norah’s high-pitched voice called out, ”Daaaddy, I think Parker ate one of my dolls!” The little girl did not sound upset or distraught; it was more like an observation of the giant spider’s behavior.
Nate rubbed his temples, muttering, ”He would.” With a sigh, he let go of Quin so he could get to his feet. ”Well, I should get back to playing with my daughter. Besides, you should be celebrating. Unless, of course, you’d like to join tea time,” he teased, offering a hand up to his ex-girlfriend and soon-to-be contracted employee.
Tomorrow. Quin nodded at the idea, it gave her a little time to breathe. It wasn't going to change anything, somehow this move felt right, and Quincy Archer wasn't one to question a gut feeling that something was the right move. Besides, this was New York. Rent wasn't cheap and landlords really weren't that understanding when a person simply just up and quit their job.
Still, addresses, hiring, legal departments...Quin wondered if she needed a resume. She'd type one up tonight just in case...it wasn't like she was going to sleep. Not with everything that had happened, not with everything she ultimately had to do.
Dropping the mic. It was a nice thought, knowing that she'd had the last word on the whole crap situation that the NYPD had put her in. Maybe now she could think about it with fondness and pride instead of soul-crushing anxiety. That was a nice thought.
A small voice from another room made Quin jump a bit. Good lord, she'd only been here a few minutes and had forgotten that Nate's daughter was in the other room. Apparently Parker had eaten a doll. It sounded like the kind of thing Parker would do...unless he'd simply webbed it up somewhere in his room.
Nate pointed out that he should get back to his daddy time as he stood and Quin followed suit. He said she should be celebrating, but that just didn't sound like a great deal of fun to the redhead at the moment.
Luckily, Nate provided an alternative.
Quin smiled, "You know how hard it is for me to say no to a good cup of tea."
