The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Rebecca offered a sympathetic smile toward Tetsuya reminiscing about his powers and his ability to create a costume out of thin air, (which was really its own trope in comics, a la Emerald Torch.) She was as clueless as anyone when it came to ways to return Tetsuya to his empowered glory, but that did not stop her from hoping someone would find a way to get them working again. She struggled to imagine what life would be like if she could not do the little things like levitate her keys into her possession on the way out the door or move Sam’s motorcycles to out-of-the-way parking spots when she took one out so it did not get keyed up.
Powers or not, Tetsuya was still an X-Man, and it was still nice to have his mind and his experience on the team.
Experience helped when Rebecca was oblivious to the lengthy walk she almost signed herself up for. ”Yeah… as much as Ah loch mah exercise, Ah’d raither nae shaw up tae their base sweaty an' exhausted.” New York in July was not a forgiving place to walk through. ”A cab, it is!”
The cab ride was no shorter than any cab ride in their New York. Evidently, traffic was a multiuniversal constant. As instructed, Rebecca and Tetsuya took the elevator up to the top floor of the building and were faced with an unassuming door with keycard entry. Rebecca was not one to judge, but it was definitely apparent that the other X-Men were living with much different means than the Mansion-dwellers on her end.
Rebecca knocked, unsure of how to call for Impact without possibly incriminating her as a vigilante. ”Um, Ah think Ah hae an appointment?” she called out clearly, uncertainty ringing in her voice.
There was a short pause, but the door opened to reveal a woman who looked similar to Rebecca if you looked past the earliest signs of aging, the tattoos, and the slightly more mature figure. (Rebecca still found it perplexing that being born a few years early could have changed so much.)
Impact did not look unhappy to see her X-Men counterparts, but she was shooting a judgmental look at Rebecca, accompanied by her equally judgmental British accent. ”An appointment? Really?”
All Rebecca could do was roll her eyes and grumble. ”It was th’ best Ah got.”
The elder redhead managed a smirk and turned her attention to the man standing in the small foyer. ”You must be Shard. It’s great to meet a fellow X-Man, regardless of the circumstances. Come in, the both of you,” she welcomed, moving away from the door so they could follow her into the hall. ”So Lodestone here said something about information you two were looking for?”

The hospital was neat. Definitely different from a mansion. No schooling required. Like that song about bricks in the wall by Pink Floyd. He supposed it was convenient, when they got a booboo. Lower profile, too. And no dealing with angry parents who want to know how little Johnny got ahold of the ability to blow up walls with his sneezing... and why they had to pay for repairs. The fact they had literal codename superhero teams hiding in it was another thing the hospital had going for it.
It was one thing to say you have a body double. It was entirely another to see it in person. He didn't drop his jaw like some sort of imbecile or stare and stutter and point. He didn't gasp. Didn't do a quick double take between women, flicking his eyes from one to the other. All he did was stand silently, nod when appropriate, and extend his hand when introductions were in order.
"Shard," he agreed. "Nice to meet you, Impact. Nice place you've got here. Guess this side, we don't have a mansion?" He smiled, waited a second, then continued.
"I guess the first thing is like to know about is this S.U.P.E.R. power Rebecca mentioned. I think I might've met one. On our side of the rip. Here-to referred to as My Realm of Origin, or MRO-side. For simplicity." They could pick their own acronym or initialism for their reality. Personally, he quite liked Alternate Version world, AV, but... to them, they'd be the originals not the alternates. Maybe they could change what it stood for to 'Amazing Version'?

Impact tried to keep her smile from faltering when Shard mentioned the Mansion. It was not the fault of the other X-Men that they had a history with less struggle and a world that gave them a chance to be heroes. She did not want to hold the Mansion against them, but Rebecca was tired of the hiding and the financial mess she was navigating to keep the X-Men afloat. ”Not quite. Not all X-Men’s checkbooks are created equally,” she said through her teeth.
According to Shard, he encountered a possible SUPER agent on the other side of the rift, which he made an effort to name. It was cute; the man was cute too, and if it had not been for Maya’s recent helping hand in her marriage, her thoughts could have been subject to wandering. Even through the wayward thoughts, Rebecca never faltered, and she spotted the glint of a wedding ring to suggest the other man was someone else’s loyal someone. Good for him. And his giant f***ing Mansion.
”SUPER is a relatively new threat to us, admittedly. We found our way to one of their labs out of the city, but from the evidence we gathered, they are so much larger than that.” She led the two doppel-X-Men into the surveillance room, which was as impressive as it could be with their low-tech constrictions. Computers around the room tracking and gathering data to mutant crime and potential SUPER-related incidents. Televisions playing different news stations to keep an eye out for breaking news. Several police scanners were listening into different frequencies so they did not miss anything.
Possibly most relevant to Shard and Lodestone would be the file cabinet and the contents therein. ”We were able to raid through some files on our way out.” Grabbing several folders filled with hard copies of SUPER files, she dropped the papers down on a nearby table. ”What’s mine is yours. I’m just barely not proud enough to understand we could use the help. Maybe some of those fancy resources of yours, too,” she added with a grin.

Apparently, mansions and money were a sore topic for Impact. Note to self: don't brag about being married to a professional clothes designer.
The Asian listened as Rebeccimpact described the organization with the unique name. They had labs. They were thought to be larger than city-based. What he knew about Super was that the mysterious man had been shifty, had an aversion to the word super, and had played things close to the chest. Made the organization sound cloak and dagger. Some real Bourne identity stuff.
Their surveillance room was impressive. The mansion lacked that sort of thing. The resources they had stolen from a SUPER lab were more impressive, still.
Impact slapped some folders down, and talked about resources. The Asian smiled at her from behind his shades.
"I'm impressed," he said, putting that out there as a sort of peace offering. "We don't have any intel gathering like this. All our stuff, we have to gather through other means. No nice computers and computer programs." He left out how they sometimes worked alongside police. That seemed like a luxury Impact and her team lacked, and his goal was to make a friend on AV side, not to make her jealous. "I'll make sure we share what we've got, though. For instance, the person I met. The one I feel is a SUPER agent. I can tell you what little I know about him. And what I gleaned about his situation... since I feel like it may be relevant, somehow. See, he appeared mysteriously on my balcony... several stories up, around the same time as the Rip occurred... and seemed to know about it. And he had a unique mutation."

Rebecca was not looking to be rude, but money was always going to be a touchy subject for the party that was lacking. Shard must have gotten the hint, because he dropped the topic. He was a smart man, because the leader of the X-Men could snark and bite with the best of them. She had the capacity to be a good hostess, as the escapees from the lab could confirm, but her temper could throw a wrench in her hospitality.
As the Elder Rebecca looked on to make sure her X-Counterparts were settled in and had everything they needed, the younger redhead was already speedreading through the stolen files. The evidence she was putting together was disheartening. ”Th’ government?” she asked, dumbfounded at the very idea.
”The government,” Impact confirmed, clearly disappointed herself. ”We went in hoping this was just some private venture. Maybe a secret branch of some corporation. But no; United States Government. Our tax dollars at work.”
The exchange of information was not one way and Shin extended his own experience with a SUPER agent. He showed up in tandem with the Rip, which was admittedly not a rare occurrence since large groups from both sides were traded over immediately after the event. The idea that he might know about the cause of the Rip was rare and interesting. Impact grabbed a seat at the table and grinned. ”Well, if you can give me any info you get from the guy, you might be my favorite off-world X-Man.”
”Hey!”
”Oh, hush,” Impact replied, almost maternally. ”Really though, if you provide us some proper notice, your team is welcome here anytime you need a base on this side of the rift. Mi X-Headquarters es su X-Headquarters.” It was no Mansion, but it was more than they had available in a world where their resources were still limited.

His offer to AV Rebecca had an impact. It got her attention. If he had any more information, she said, Or got any from the guy, she would be appreciative. And they were welcome any time, so long as they called ahead. Could he share more information? Get more?
"Sure," Shin said. "Though if I do run into him again, he might just avoid me and evade and leave me none the wiser. He's got this creepy trick with time... and he also kind of predated the Rip with his arrival. By hours."
Rebecca and Rebecca's interaction regarding super hadn't gone unnoticed. His Rebecca had been glancing through the copious selection of files. Shin joined her without elaborating on his statement. Clearly, he was leading somewhere with it and they'd been focused elsewhere, on tangible Data. There was nothing wrong with that. He could glance through the government paperwork. Maybe he'd see a familiar name.
"Thanks for the friendly welcome, by the way. Same goes for us if you're ever on our side of the rip. We'll help you however we can."
There was a lot going on here. A lot with the paperwork. Some of it almost looked scientific in nature, like writeups for experiments done in the shorthand that only scientists can understand. Several months worth of study drawn down to six pages of complex prose. He didn't see any names, offhand. Nothing that stood out, at least. Casually, he pulled off his shades, revealing his triangular pupils as he scanned a page. He slipped the shades into a pocket as words were measured and weighed in his green matrix of a vision grid.

Both Rebecca’s perked up at Tetsuya’s curious piece of intel. Not only did he meet a SUPER agent, the man’s arrival came before the rift itself. ”Sae this isnae random happenstance. Something happened an’ he was involved. There’s nae reason fer him tae be sent o’er otherwise.” It was absurd to think someone ended up coming over to their universe coincidentally right before a portal between worlds formed.
”Agreed. Interesting. Time was being wonky for the weeks leading up to the Rip. Hopefully he doesn’t slip away from you, because this man sounds interesting.” With so many unknowns surrounding the tear in space, a handful of answers would be a nice change of pace.
It was early, but Rebecca liked the cooperation she was receiving from her fellow X-Men. She was handcuffed when it came to resources and membership, but with allies, thinks suddenly seemed less bleak. It was kind of Tetsuya to offer her the mansion as a base of operations on the other side as well. ”I’m sure I’ll be there plenty,” she confirmed with a grin and a knowing wink to her younger counterpart. Becca’s friend Maya was her one path to spending time with her spouse, so she intended to make regular trips to visit the other world’s mirrorwalker.
”Okay, I think I’ll leave you two to your information gathering. I’ll be in my office down the hall if you need me. It was an honor meeting you, Shard.” Rebecca started to walk away before she caught a glimpse of Shard’s eyes, which were quite special—and she knew a thing about special eyes. ”Nice eyes, by the way,” she added, smiling as she walked out.
With the elder redhead out of the room, the younger Becca grinned. ”She has laser eyes, ye know. Hae Ah mentioned ‘at? Mah awesome doppelganger's got laser eyes.” It was such a novel thing to have a copy of herself running around, but Becca was most fascinated by the differences between them. Laser eyes were a big difference.
Okay, silliness over. Back to tedious government papers!

Hopefully, he doesn't slip away. That was a laugh. Funny. He really didn't think that if the guy wanted to escape, there would be anything anyone in the world could do to stop him short of sending out a SWAT team and several squads of police officers in a full-blown manhunt. He didn't say this, though. Mainly because that guy's power scared him... and he didn't want to scare the Rebeccas, too.
Shin nodded thoughtfully at what Impact said about time. He didn't have anything to add. He'd noticed. One day, he'd gone to work at what he thought would have been a late arrival. He'd been certain he would have been late during his first week of teaching, and that it would have been embarrassing or worse, something that would have gotten him fired. Instead, he'd been incredibly early. Stuff like that had been happening for a while prior to the rip. The people on the radio had noticed. It had been a thing. Time manipulation is scary stuff. Best stay away from time travel and its ilk.
>>”Okay, I think I’ll leave you two to your information gathering. I’ll be in my office down the hall if you need me. It was an honor meeting you, Shard.” Rebecca said, as she made her exit.
The Asian smiled. "Great meeting you too, Impact."
>>”Nice eyes, by the way,” she added.
An eyebrow quirked at the unexpected compliment, but dropped just as quickly, as he took it at face-value. "Thanks."
Magnetic-mutant Rebecca explained the comment. Then, it clicked. He made a long drawn out 'O' sound with his face. "That makes sense." He agreed. Laser eyes. Very neat. "Fascinating how small changes can make big differences." He paused for a second, before noting. "She seemed a little older than you, too... I wonder if I have an alternate world self. Maybe he still lives in Japan, and voices cartoon characters?" He thought about it for a second, then shrugged. That was far too cool for his alternate world self. He probably just did peoples' taxes, and was antisocial. Didn't like going out.
He glanced at the file cabinet full of data. Made the motion of rolling up sleeves. It was time to get down to business.
They spent the next several minutes poring over SUPER information. When he noticed something interesting, Shin commented on it. A lot of it wasn't interesting, though. He wasn't sure what their aim had been, with the data. It'd be useful, at least. As tedious things often are.
A little while later, Shin rose from a chair he'd been camped out in. He fanned his mouth in a silent yawn.
"When we're done here, maybe we can split up and go exploring a little before we head back. Then pool information." They'd need a way to stay in contact with each other. It was a shame he didn't have the capability to create some sort of shard construct that could stay with people, and give them feedback from afar. Like a psychic mood ring. One that blinked and glowed in morse code. He'd never figured out how to make the basic two wedding rings. Also. Handing out wedding rings to every single team member, just so he could blink 'hi' seemed a bit forward. Especially since it seemed like a lot of the X-men team currently were female. Kealey most likely would not have approved. Maybe they could hit a toy store and buy some crappy walkie-talkies? He hadn't even checked to see if their X-communicators could work over this world's signal network. Hey. A thought struck him.
"Do you think that they have a couple of comms we could borrow?" Shin asked.

Tetsuya made a point Becca had been dwelling on since meeting her doppelganger. Rebecca was older than her by a few years and, based on her accent, it was clear their parents never returned from London to raise their daughter in Paisley. Rebecca was born a few years earlier and it changed everything.
It was interesting talking to someone whose potential doppelganger was unaccounted for. Tetsuya made guesses about where the other him could be in the world, which was a fascinating look into the potential paths he could have taken in his life. When you worked with someone as a vigilante and a teacher, it was hard to picture them as something like an anime voice actor. Then again, Becca was not one to talk about unique side jobs. Still, she tucked away the little nugget about her teammate as she dived back into the files.
Some information was valuable, but it was all tedious. Tetsuya’s yawn was silent, but still contagious as Becca stifled a more audible yawn with her palm. ”Hey, quit it, ye know hoo yawns can be.”
After so much sitting in one place, Becca liked the idea of hitting the streets. They would have to be cautious, but it would be a refreshing change of pace and really, who knew what they might find. ”They hae comms; Ah know that much. Impact an’ Mirage were usin’ them when they came oer tae ur side. If ye think we’re ready tae wrap up here, Ah can bug Impact fur a set.” She looked down at the file in front of her which could have easily been written in Greek for all her ability to focus on it. ”Please say we’re ready tae wrap up.”

"I think," Shin said. He glanced at Becca. "We're ready to wrap up."
It didn't take long for them to rustle up some comms. He would have thought they'd be prickly about the outsiders borrowing expensive tech from a group that already had limited funds, but somehow Rebecca had managed to convince Rebecca. He made a mental note to be certain he returned them before he popped on over to the other side. Failure to return borrowed tech, and taking it across the gap between worlds felt an awful lot like some high grade library book thievery to Shin. And thievery is Wrong.
While Rebecca had worked on convincing other Rebecca, Shin had been busy plotting his next move. Figuring out where he wanted to go and what he wanted to look into. There were a lot of minor differences that intrigued him, and people he was interested in looking up. Did Kealey have an alternate self? Aurum? How deep did the rabbit hole go? What about the Mansion? What was in its place right now? And the people involved in running it? The list went on. He didn't have all day. He had to streamline it down to some basic stuff and who was he kidding? He was most likely going to wander around on the streets for an hour, rubber-necking like some sort of super obvious goof.
***
When Rebecca came back, he took a comm. Tested it. Discussed meet-up places, if radio silence occurred or they lost contact with each other. And told her if she didn't hear from him after a certain time that they were supposed to meet up, she should head over through the portal. He'd catch up with her later.

It was, indeed, surprisingly easy to convince Impact to loan Becca and Tetsuya some comm devices. She would not say it, but Impact saw her younger doppelganger like a weird, hard to explain younger sister. When she chastised, it came from a place of concern. Becca could see why the tough team leader was apparently referred to as the “team mom.”
Comms would help keep the team safe and that was important enough to risk losing a pair. Equipment was replaceable, but Impact had already been forced to “replace” X-Men in the past.
They set themselves up and hashed out details. They arranged to touch base at a certain time, but Tetsuya also made it clear she should not wait up for him if he ran late. It did not sit well with Becca, but Tetsuya was her senior and she had no reason not to trust him. Honestly, they were both curious about the alternate universe; it was likely Tetsuya might want to do some more personal research. Maybe he wanted to find out what the lives of Alternate Tetsuya and Kealey looked like. After realizing her and Mirror’s doppelgangers were married and had an adopted daughter, Becca was ready to hold off on further fact-finding missions regarding the people in her life.
”If ye think ye’ll need mair time, try tae reach it. Ah dornt need tae explain tae Kealey wa Ah jist bailed oan ye,” she joked. ”Really thocht, jist keep safe an’ contact me if ye cross anythin’ leery. Ah’ll see ye later.” And with that, the two X-Men parted ways in a foreign universe.
