The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

There was no way Becca realized the gravity of the news she gave the married couple. She was dealing with the surreal experience of meeting copies of herself and her friend, which was jarring. Rebecca was past the struggle to comprehend alternate universe theories. She had been told, for the first time, that there might be another person who could traverse through the Mirror World. Someone who shared Jesse’s power. The first beacon of hope she had found in two years.
”Becca… Is Gawain…” Rebecca hesitated for a moment, because she was getting her hopes up. She was feeling the possibility that she could touch Jesse again. It would be soul-crushing to lose that, but she had to ask. ”Is he stuck in the Mirror World, too?”
Wide-eyed, Becca shook her head. ”No.” The implication of the question hit her and she turned back to Jesse. ”Jesse, yer… stuck?” Becca must have been understanding the kind of waking hell it would be to never leave a dimension where you were cut off from everything, because there was fear in her voice.
There were tears in Rebecca’s eyes. Her tone was serious, but her voice was quivering. ”Becca. Please. Please help us.”
Becca only nodded, still in shock over the turn her day had taken. She reached for her ear and turned on her comm piece. ”Hey, team? Thes is Lodestone. Ah think Ah need coverage. Someain needs tae take crowd control duty. Ah still cannae quite believe it, but Ah need tae come back tae th' mansion wi'... me.” It seemed like the X-Man was going to end her transmission, but she remembered an important follow-up request.
”An' Gawain. Maya. Whoever ye ur today. Please meit me at th' Mansion.”
>>”Becca… Is Gawain… Is he stuck in the Mirror World, too?”
There were too many possibilities to think through in that moment. Jesse was watching Becca, his Becca, as the realization of hope dawned on her. In that moment, she lost the attitude completely, giving way to something more vulnerable, something that no one ever saw, except for him. The change was so visible, the other Becca seemed to stop the posturing too, shocked by the implications of the question.
>>”Jesse, yer… stuck?”
"... yes." It was harder to admit than he's expected. People around them, the X-men, knew, of course, but it was not something he liked to admit to strangers; his own powers betraying him, and being the most useless member of his team. That feeling of being stuck, in more ways than one, returned with a vengeance as he saw the pleading look in his wife's mismatched eyes.
>>”Becca. Please. Please help us.”
Could they? Would they? Were the X-men of this world somehow working with the police? Were they the SUPER of New York Two, or were they a force for good, like Becca always imagined them to be, in a better world? Did they already give too much away about themselves to people who looked like them, but were also very different?... Jesse got ready to tell Becca to run, in case things took a bad turn, as the other redhead turned on her earpiece.
>>”Hey, team? Thes is Lodestone. Ah think Ah need coverage. Someain needs tae take crowd control duty. Ah still cannae quite believe it, but Ah need tae come back tae th' mansion wi'... me. An' Gawain. Maya. Whoever ye ur today. Please meit me at th' Mansion.”
There was a moment of chatter in the piece about rearranging crowd control, and then Maya's voice came through.
"I'll meet you at the Mansion, Lodestone... wait, did you just say, you're coming in with you? Did you meet your twin from the other side?"
Mirror obviously knew something about people appearing through the portal being copies of some people they knew.
Jesse looked uncomfortable. It felt like they were setting themselves up for disappointment. From the look on Becca's face, she already thought they finally found a solution. Or a savior. But Jesse did not believe in saviors.
"Let's get out of here." he said finally "I don't think the police would love to see a mutant in their window. Becca, can you get the hand mirror out?"

Becca could not lose sight of why she was at the Rip in the first place: people were panicking and the situation was filled with unknowns. She could not return to the Mansion without someone to provide coverage. They were dealing with something big.
It was also the place of the X-Men to save people on a case by case basis, and how could she deny a request from “herself” for help? The other Rebecca was an X-Man, no less! Of course, there was no telling if that meant the same thing on both sides of the Rip, but she would just have to be careful.
Coverage was arranged just in time for Mirror’s voice to come through the comms. She was Maya for the day, and based on how she replied, word of doppelgangers had reached the rest of the team. ”Ay, Ah foond anaither Rebecca. An... weel, ye’ll see when we get back.” It was hard to tell for certain if Jesse and Mirror were a matching set since one of them was a shapeshifter, but Rebecca was not ruling it out. ”Lodestone, out.”
She turned to see Rebecca pulling a large hand mirror out from her bag, allowing Jesse to switch locations. Becca made note of the cleverness of the idea before realizing it would not have been necessary if Jesse could escape the mirrors. He was trapped—and he was Rebecca’s husband. She could not imagine how trying that experience was for them. ”Come oan, we’re a wee bit outside ay th’ city, but Ah left a ride nearby.”
Leading her copy away from the chaos, Becca stopped when they were standing next to an unassuming, out-of-business comic shop. She heard the older Rebecca asking, ”So where is this ride of yours?” But Becca was more concerned with focusing. The building was not as tall as some in the city, allowing her powers to reach up to the roof. She lifted a motorcycle that she had left there, (because if she got it stolen amidst the panic and potential rioting, Sam would have killed her.) The vehicle lowered carefully to the sidewalk until it stood idle between the Rebeccas.
Unexpectedly, the Alternate Rebecca was stunned. ”Woah. I can’t do that.”
That caught Becca off guard. She was expecting for them to be matching copies, barring small details. ”You don’t manipulate magnetism?”
”No. I shoot lasers out of my eyes.”
That earned a silent look of disbelief.
”I’m serious!” Rebecca looked around cautiously, apparently not hoping to make a spectacle of what came next. She turned her head to look down the alley next to the shop and a bright blast of blue and green erupted from her eyes. The sound of metal crunching could be heard and Becca could feel what happened: the blast had crushed a metal trash can into a wall.
”Woah… sae tois uf th’ same fowk can hae different powers…” Becca glanced down at Jesse in Rebecca’s mirror. Suddenly the difference in shifting powers did not seem like the same degree of evidence that Jesse and Mirror were not one in the same. ”Okay then. There’s nae time tae dawdle. Off tae th’ Mansion.”
Rebecca marveled at the sight of the Mansion as her copy gained them access at the gates. It really was a tale of two X-Teams. In her world, the X-Men were hiding and struggling to pay rent. Here, the other half lived in a giant Mansion with gates and security, working alongside the police if Becca was to be believed. ”Oy, you’re really living the tough life here on this side, aren’t you?” Becca ignored the comment, so she kept quiet and clung to the waist of the driver as they made their way toward the Mansion.
The inside was just as impressive as the exterior, she realized as she followed Becca closely through the main lobby. ”Take nae offense, but thes is a weird situation an' ye ur technically a stranger. Kin' ay. Sae we arenae gonnae tak' ye anywhaur beyond th' main areas.”
Rebecca nodded, appreciating the desire to be cautious and maintain security. ”I’d expect nothing less.”
Becca looked around the lobby and pressed her comm piece again. ”Alrecht, Ah’m back. Maya, can ye gie tae th' lobby? Ah hae someain ye need tae meit...”
>>”Come oan, we’re a wee bit outside ay th’ city, but Ah left a ride nearby.”
Jesse moved into the hand mirror, relieved to be rid oft he cop car, and at the same time still worried about what awaited them at wherever they were going. Was it really a chance to get him out of the mirrors?... And how were they going to get there anyway?
The latter question was soon answered as Other Becca lifted... a motorbike off a roof.
>>”Woah. I can’t do that.”
>>”You don’t manipulate magnetism?”
>>”No. I shoot lasers out of my eyes.”
"She does." Jesse confirmed, even before his wife decided to give a demonstration. So, it was two Beccas, with two different sets of mutations... but there was no doubt that they were both a version of the same person. That would explain why the other mirror-walking shifter only had two forms... This alternative universe was just getting more and more complicated.
>>”Okay then. There’s nae time tae dawdle. Off tae th’ Mansion.”
Did she just say Mansion?... It soon turned out that the X-men of New York Two were much better set up than them. They had their own place, right out in the open, with security and grounds and stuff, and no one thought it was strange or dangerous. Jesse could sense all the reflecting surfaces in it too; if they really had a mirrorwalker as NotWife claimed, then it was definitely a good place for them.
>>”Alrecht, Ah’m back. Maya, can ye gie tae th' lobby? Ah hae someain ye need tae meit...”
Jesse, in order to see better, slipped from the hand mirror to the hanging mirror set up in the lobby. It put him at about the same height the girls were, and gave him a better perspective of the space.
Maya appeared a few minutes later, walking down the hallway in her X-uniform. She had her hair pulled up into a ponytail, and she paused in the lobby the moment she saw the two Beccas next to each other. "Whoa... You were not kidding about the twin, were you." she walked closer, offering a hand to the slightly older version of Becca. "Hi. My name is Maya Morris. Becca said you needed my help with something?"
In the meantime, Jesse watched the young woman curiously from the mirror, waiting to be noticed. She was not a face he had ever used before, so she might as well have been a stranger... until proven otherwise.

Anxiety mounted in the minutes waiting for Maya to appear. Younger Becca was nervous about the upcoming meeting she was facilitating and what it could mean, but her nerves could not hold a handle to Older Rebecca who was fidgeting like mad.
Maya finally made her appearance, and her first reaction to the Rebeccas was understandable. Unfortunately, nerves were not Becca’s friend. ’Wha woods Ah hae been kidding, Maya,” she snipped in a flat tone. Her Alternate Self was rubbing off on her. ”Sorry. It’s been… it’s been a day.”
Rebecca looked Maya over carefully, scrutinizing every little detail of the young woman. The face was not familiar, but that meant nothing with her spouse. Jesse had worn hundreds of thousands of faces in his life. He did not even remember what he looked like at birth. The new woman had yet to notice Jesse standing and watching from his mirror, which was good because they had to know they were talking to someone who could really help.
There was no point in stalling so she stepped forward, doing her best to steady her voice. ”Hello, Maya. I’m Rebecca… as you’ve probably figured out by now.” It felt absurd introducing herself when Rebecca and Maya were clearly friends. She had to get down to business. ”I think… I hope… you might be able to help me and my spouse. But first…” Her heart was racing, because she was asking questions she never expected she would get the chance to ask.
”Can you really do it? Do you have the ability to mirrorwalk?”
>>’Wha woods Ah hae been kidding, Maya. Sorry. It’s been… it’s been a day.”
"Yeah, I bet" Maya let go of Becca snapping at her; meeting one's doppelganger had to be a jarring experience. On top of the crazy that had been going on with the rip, no wonder the redhead was short on patience; the other was looked equally frazzled, and it was starting to dawn on the mirrorwalker that maybe there was more going on than just the giant vortex at the part. Did something else happen...?
>>”Hello, Maya. I’m Rebecca… as you’ve probably figured out by now. I think… I hope… you might be able to help me and my spouse. But first… Can you really do it? Do you have the ability to mirrorwalk?”
Maya blinked as they shook hands.
"Uh... yeah, I do." she nodded, a little confused about how that would be helpful at the moment "... wait, did you say spouse?"
Alter-Becca was married?... No wonder Becca seemed frazzled.
Jesse cleared his throat in the mirror.
"Yeah. That would be me."
Maya turned towards the sound, surprised that she did not notice someone else standing in the hallway... then she just stared for a very long time.
"... hooooooly sh*t."
There was a guy in the mirror. Not any face she had ever seen, but wearing an X-men uniform, and claiming that...
"Um... Becca..." Maya glanced at her friend, then back "... am I going crazy, or is Alt-You married to... Alt-Me?..."
"Seems like it." Jesse noted, a little but amused despite the seriousness of the situation. "I mean, we are definitely married. And... yeah, I guess, technically, we are... similar?"

Maya was not expecting Rebecca’s question, because to her, it was coming out of nowhere. It took another break before the rest of the redheads words really started sinking in. She was realizing Alter-Rebecca was married, but Becca knew she lacked the full scope. That was going to come along any minute.
>> "Yeah. That would be me." >> "... hooooooly sh*t."
Aaand there it was. The mind-bending moment of meeting a person who was the same person as you. Even with different faces, the power seemed like a dead giveaway. Then again, the Rebeccas proved that was not always the case. Still, in the context of the problem at hand, did it even matter?
Maya spoke slowly, like she was trying to piece together a question through the jumble in her mind as it processed the scene. The question hit Becca unexpectedly; she had been so concerned with meeting herself and helping Jesse, she failed to put two and two together to realize the implications of Rebecca and Jesse Grey. ”Ah mean… um… wow. Ah guess… Ah guess she is. Ah… wow.” Suddenly, she was the one stumbling for words. However things shook out on the other side of the Rip, Other Rebecca ended up married to the Other Mirror.
Without realizing it, Becca was looking at Maya, suddenly uncomfortable.
These alternate selves were truly young, because they were focusing on the entirely wrong thing.
Rebecca tried to be patient, but she was failing. The stinging of tears in her eyes was too much of a reminder of why she was at some Mansion in a strange universe in the first place. ”Yes, we’re married. For heaven’s sake you two, focus.”
Her snappy tone caught the attention of the younger redhead, who shook off whatever thoughts she momentarily got lost in. ”Right! Maya. Jesse needs yer help. We think ye micht be th’ only ain who coods dae it.”
Older Rebecca cut her off by stepping quickly to Maya, placing her hands on the girl’s shoulders and squeezing. ”Maya, Jesse has been in the Mirror World for two years. Something bad happened on a mission and… he’s stuck. Please, I need you to try and get my husband out of there. Please.” Rebecca was not one to beg often, but this felt like the first time it was warranted. She would have walked hat in hand to SUPER if she was sure they had a way to get Jesse back into the real world.
>>”Yes, we’re married. For heaven’s sake you two, focus.”
Focus. Apparently, marriage was not the issue. Except it was, it totally was - apparently, in an alternate universe, instead of a one-night-stand in the X-Jet the two of them somehow actually managed to end up together, and Maya was not sure how to process that. From the look on her face, Becca was equally uncomfortable. They would have to talk later, but...
>>”Right! Maya. Jesse needs yer help. We think ye micht be th’ only ain who coods dae it.”
Jesse watched intently from the mirror as his wife grabbed a hold of his alternate self, trying to get her to focus on the task at hand. They were so close to... whatever was going to happen next, Jesse found himself frozen.
>>”Maya, Jesse has been in the Mirror World for two years. Something bad happened on a mission and… he’s stuck. Please, I need you to try and get my husband out of there. Please.”
Maya stared, all kinds of realizations dawning on her.
"Two years?..." she said, stunned, then turned to walk over to the mirror "You have been stuck in there for two years?..."
"Yeah." Jesse nodded, for the second time in one hour "I got injured on a mission, fell into the mirror, and... my powers somehow shut down. I'm fine in here, but I can't leave. It..." Jesse sighed "... it's been a long two years."
Maya sighed too. Well... that sucked. Big time. She could not imagine what it would be like to be stuck in the mirrorworld permanently... and looking at AltBecca, it also explained the desperation in her voice. She had been cut off from her husband for years. That was... hellish. And until the rip appeared, they had no chance of finding someone that could get him out.
"Alright" she said finally "Let's get you outta there."
Stepping into the mirror, the next moment Maya stood side by side with Jesse. There was nothing similar in the way they looked, and yet... there was something familiar in him, something she could not put her finger on. Maya offered a hand, and Jesse took it without hesitation; she could see the cautious hope in his eyes.
The next moment, Maya stepped out of the mirror. Jesse didn't.

Rebecca could feel something in her heart snap. Her heart had been broken for so long with Jesse trapped on the other side of a mirror. For the first time, she was ready to pick up the pieces and be whole again, reunited with her missing piece.
But Maya came out of the mirror alone, leaving Jesse behind. The dregs of hope abandoned her along with the strength in her body. Her legs buckled and she fell to her knees. Tears were already streaming down her cheeks. It was too good to be true; she should have known. The world stopped giving her breaks a long time ago. Why would fate be different just because she was in a new universe?
Becca approached her older self cautiously, pressing a hand on her shoulder. ”Ah’m… Ah’m sae sorry.” How did you console someone who was reminded she would live a world apart from her lover forever?
Feeling the warmth of her doppelganger’s hand on her shoulder, Rebecca remembered where she was. She was the guest of two kind versions of herself and her spouse who had done their best to help them. She rubbed her forearm across her eyes and cheeks, trying to clean away some of her tears. ”It’s not your fault. I got too hopeful. This was a long shot, and I should have known that.” Her voice was not the voice of a woman accepting her fate, but rather a woman defeated by the world.
With Becca’s help, she got to her feet and walked toward the mirror, placing her hand against the cold, unfeeling surface. ”I just… I really wanted to believe I’d be able to hold Jesse again.” Could anyone blame her for wanting to hold onto any last hope of reuniting with her lover again?
Jesse blinked, still stuck inside the mirror; for a moment he did not even comprehend what just happened. He was the broken hope in Becca's eyes, and the frustration in Maya's, before he realized that their experiment had failed. To Maya's credit, the mirrorwalker stepped back inside the mirror and tried again - Jesse focusing with all his might on his own powers - but did not get a different result.
"Dammit!"
Jesse watched from the mirror as his wife fell to her knees. It hurt, maybe even hurt more than the firs time they realized he was stuck permanently. Now she had had hope, an entire new dimension, to make her believe maybe there was a way out... and then the hope was taken away, and they were going through the same tragedy a second time, all over again. Jesse bit his lips, watching the doppelganger comfort his wife. His own vision blurred with tears.
>>”Ah’m… Ah’m sae sorry.”
>>”It’s not your fault. I got too hopeful. This was a long shot, and I should have known that.”
Becca walked over to the mirror, and Jesse rested his hands against hers on the other side of the glass. He was not sure how he would ever be okay after this. How they would ever be okay.
>>”I just… I really wanted to believe I’d be able to hold Jesse again.”
There was a long, quiet moment filled with tears, before Maya spoke, cautiously, again.
"Well... that, I can do." she glanced at Becca, then back at the couple "But, um... maybe we should get out of the lobby, and go find somewhere more private? We have some empty rooms in the dorm wing."
There was no way to play any more of this personal drama out in the middle of the Mansion hallways.

Becca had been so focused on their inability to bring Jesse out of the mirror, she never even thought about the opposite. When Maya suggested the option, it sounded so obvious. She was well aware of Maya’s ability to bring people into the Mirror World and she was equally aware of her ability to leave people there, (as an Atlantean general could attest.)
Rebecca was still dealing with the haze of bad news, and only half-understood Maya’s offer. ”Huh? You… can?” What was Maya talking about? They tried and they failed. Dangling more hope in front of her seemed cruel.
Thankfully, Becca understood and took her own(?) hand. ”Nae, Rebecca. Follow me.” The younger woman dragged her elder down the hall toward the dorm wing. Rebecca was still too shocked to resist, argue, or question, so it was a quick but silent trip. All she wanted to do was use her free arm to hold her hand mirror close.
Becca knocked on two doors before trying the knobs. They were locked, but the third door opened to reveal a (thankfully) empty room. She spotted a full-length mirror on the wall and smiled as she waited for Maya to follow them into the room.
She was greeted with a look of suspicion from Rebecca, who was too cautious to get excited until someone explained what they were doing in a school dorm room. ”So?”
”So!” Becca shook her head, gesturing toward Maya. ”Rebecca, Jesse can bring people intae th’ Mirror World and leave them there fur a time.” Becca was admittedly foggy on the details of the time limits on her friend’s power, but she was sure it would suit the situation. It was not the best solution, but it was better than what they had minutes earlier.
Understanding slowly filled Rebecca’s mismatched eyes as she turned to Maya. ”You really could, Maya?” She was still sad Jesse would be trapped alone in the Mirror World, but it was impossible to deny how much it would mean to spend even a moment on the other side with him. ”Thank you, Maya. Thank you, Becca.” Trying not to resume her crying, she took a deep breath and offered a hand to Maya.
It was... definitely doable. AltBecca only half understood what was going on, which was understandable, since she was so much wrapped up in the moment of grief. But Becca, luckily, understood immediately what Mirror was getting at, and she led her doppelganger by the hand down the hallway, to find an empty dorm room. If things went as planned, the two of those deserved some privacy.
Jesse slipped into the hand mirror without a word. They had already lost one hope today, so he refused to get hopeful again until he saw evidence. He watched the hallway and the rooms as they were led to a more private place. Just how big was this Mansion? How many mutants lived there? Were they all X-men?... The questions would not be answered, but they were a good distraction.
Once they found an empty room, complete with a full length mirror, Jesse slipped out of the hand mirror to stand in front of the others.
>>”Rebecca, Jesse can bring people intae th’ Mirror World and leave them there fur a time.”
Jesse still could not leave the mirrorworld. But... Becca could enter it?...
"Yeah. I can leave people in a mirror for... a day, give or take." Maya nodded "If I don't take them out they just... kinda fall out of it, when my powers expire. But... yeah. I can give you a day."
Jesse held his breath. A day. A whole day.
Maya held Becca's hand, and stepped into the mirror with her. This time, it worked. Jesse caught his breath, as he stood face to face with his wife, on the same side of the glass, for the firs time in two years.
"Umm... I think we'll leave you alone now." Maya said, realizing immediately that this moment needed no audience "Come find us if you need anything."
With that, Maya left the mirror, and all but dragged Becca out of the room with her, locking the door.

Becca watched as Maya led Alt-Rebecca across the threshold of the mirror before making her return quickly to the real world. She could only nod as Maya suggested they give the married couple privacy, still dealing with the mental ramifications of what she had learned for the day. Maya pulled her by the arm out of the room and out of her daze, suggesting a drink. ”Aye,” she agreed, still zoned out in her head. ”Yer nae aloyn.”
It was surreal being back in the Mirror World. Rebecca had been taken along for the magical journey in the past, but it had been years. The sensation of crossing over stuck with her for a moment, but she was more focused on what she saw now that she was on the other side.
Jesse. In front of her. Really in front of her for the first time in two years. Tears were pooling in her eyes again, but they were happy tears. She could not hear Becca or Maya as they made their exit because she was too concerned with moving toward her spouse.
Her arms wrapped tightly around the solid, muscular body Jesse had chosen for their scouting mission. It did not matter the form Jesse took; there was something familiar about feeling her lover in her arms again.
Rebecca buried her face against Jesse’s shoulder before finally looking up and meeting his lips for a long, tender kiss. It was all she had been craving for two years. In one kiss, she could feel years of frustration, depression, and shameful thoughts of infidelity leaving her body.
She was crying. She was smiling. She was laughing. Rebecca had too many emotions to focus on one. Her forehead pressed against Jesse’s and she closed her eyes. ”Hi, Jesse.”
She was really there, in the mirrorworld. There was no glass between them, which was almost impossible to believe, except in a moment Becca was already hugging him. Jesse gathered her in his arms, burying his face in her hair, almost lifting her up from where she was standing as he held on to her. She was real, and her body felt familiar, something that he missed but never forgot.
She was crying as she kissed him, and she tasted like salt. Jesse kissed her back like his life depended on it, one arm still holding her close and the other hand buried in her hair. He could feel tension ebbing away from her muscles, and he held her up to make up for the height difference between her and his current form. The idea of shifting never even crossed his mind. When they finally came up for air, she rested her forehead against his, like she used to through the glass, except this time he could feel her breath, and her hair tickled his cheeks.
>>”Hi, Jesse.”
"Hi, love" Jesse smiled brightly, looking into his wife's mismatched, teary eyes. He smoothed the hair out of her face and wiped some tears away with his thumb, enjoying the simple miracle of being able to do those things after years when he was cut off from comforting her. "... you smell nice."
Like in some kind of a fairy tale, he got back everything he had been missing - her touch, her smell, even her genuine smile. And like in a fairy tale, it was for a short time only. Jesse felt overwhelmed by both, so he just held Becca for a while, and kissed her brow. "Well... this mission was a good idea."

It felt like a dream. Rebecca had spent so long accepting the fact that she would never hold Jesse in her arms. She killed all the optimism left in herself, resigning herself to lament the loss of a piece of her heart.
Now she was in the mirrors with Jesse. She could not think about it as a half victory; she wanted Jesse home with her, but for the moment, his touch was all she thought she would ever need again. She was on the tips of her toes with his arm firmly around her back and the other in her hair. Shivers were running across her skin. It was heaven. She had no use for the real world, because she had clearly stepped into paradise.
Jesse wiped away her tears. Every time she was hit with the pain of being apart from her lover, all she wanted was to feel his thumb brushing away her tears. She smiled from ear to ear, trying to get control of her emotions. They had no time for crying. ”And you smell exactly as I remembered.” It was important; Jesse changed faces so often, but there was always something so… “Jesse” about the way he smelled.
Her nose scrunched happily as she felt a soft kiss planted on her brow. ”Yes. This is the best mission. My favorite ever. Better than Budapest.” They had plenty of memories, (including that rare overseas trip,) but it was hard not to acknowledge that they had found a moment that blew all other moments out of the water. ”I’m going to have to befriend Maya.” Ignoring the already significant fact that Becca and Maya gave her something she could have only wished for, Rebecca was hoping beyond hope her trip into the mirror did not have to be a one-time event. If it was, she would accept that she was given one miracle, but a girl could hope.
The lovers spent a long time just enjoying the long overdue embrace they were sharing. Occasionally, tender kisses would break the peaceful cuddling. In time, the kissing became less tender and more passionate. They were savoring every moment, but it was undeniable that, after two years without Jesse’s touch, Rebecca could not wait much longer for all they had been longing to do. It was fortunate no one entered the dorm room, because they would have seen discarded clothes, and a woman getting “reacquainted” with her husband, (or her wife, depending on when the intruder entered.)
Then again, that would be if they could see through the foggy glass…
