The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Jorge
There was something almost morbid about it, looking through all your stuff, stuff that had been squirreled away because the world though you were dead. Back in 2012, when Detective Jorge Cervantes was declared legally dead after being unable to find a body after a undercover op gone bad, that was when the vultures started circling. Luckily the man had been up to date on most things, only owing a few bills here and there, bills that could easily be paid off posthumously. But there was still the matter of three things: 1.) his apartment full of stuff, 2.) his 1967 Chevy Impala, and 3.) his English bulldog Lizzie. Two and Three were simple enough to solve. The mansion had plenty of space for a spare car to be parked and Lizzie had family with Gemma and Chase and could easily be cared for, but what of the apartment full of stuff? That, unfortunately would be decidedly trickier.
Being a police officer meant being prepared, which of course meant that he needed to have a will. Unfortunately, due to his constant idea of putting it off, Jorge’s will was not the most accurate. Gemma Taylor had been chosen to be a benefactor, including his sister and his mother. However for each of them Jorge had left a portion of what was his: sadly, he had yet to update it include everything else. The state was quick to move in at that point, readying to seize the apartment and any of the materials still since. For Jorge, thankfully, it would be the generosity of his intended who would save those items that man did not get to add.
This is where they ended up. It was just a room, like any of the other rooms on the mansion grounds but set aside for staff members. The room wasn’t made up, or anything, and consisted of a simple bed lacking linens, no décor, and several cardboard boxes that had been stacked all around, boxes filled with all his stuff that remained. It may not have been the most glamorous way to store things but at least it was better than being sold off in auctions or scattered to thrift stores around the state.
It was in this room that Jorge Cervantes found himself one morning. Dressed in simple flannel pajama bottoms and a black tank top, the detective took a deep breath as he looked around the room. The first box that he had opened contained a number of his shirts that had been neatly folded. He could have only assumed how tough this was for Gemma to do, to gather up his live, reminders that he used to exist at one of the hardest junctions of her life. Jorge didn’t know how she could have brought herself to come back to him when he showed up on the beach, but he was thankful for her; every day.
Sitting at the edge of the bed, Jorge had set one of the boxes down and popped it open. Instead were several framed pictures. Most had been sent back to his mother but the remaining items were still just as important to him. Plucking one up, it contained a picture of himself, Gemma, and Chase, the three most important people in his life. The idea that he had left them still filled the man with a deep pang of guilt. It may have not been his fault that he left, but part of him would probably always feel it was.
With a shake of his head, Jorge began to pull out a few items, looking through them merely out of curiosity’s sake. But as he started to fish through, there was the sound of the door creaking open. Looking up, he smiled as he spotted his the mahogany skin of his fiancée standing in the doorway. He smirked as he held up small trophy from the box, turning it over in his hands as he peered over it.
”Best Halloween Costume of my 8th grade class,” he smirked. ”Went as the lead singer from K.I.S.S. Parents were shocked but all my friends and the judges loved it.” He snorted at the memory before he took a deep, steadying breath. ”I guess I can’t believe that you managed to save it.” As the man mused he started to feel that familiar pang of guilt. It was going to be a hard emotion to get passed, but he did his best. He glanced back to Gemma and nodded to her. ”I honestly don’t know if I can ever thank you for enough for everything you’ve done, Gem. I…I don’t even know where to begin…”
Jorge was finally out of the hospital. His apartment was long gone - Gemma tried keeping it as long as she could, but she had no legal backing to do so, so after a while, just like Lizzie and the car, most of Jorge's things had also migrated to the Mansion for safekeeping. She told herself that one day Chase will be happy to have some things left from his father, even if they had only known each other for a little while. But deep down, she also knew she was not quite ready to let go of the last tangible memories of Jorge yet. She believed that eventually she'll find the right place for them. And then Jorge returned, and Gemma was happy that he at least had some things to rebuild his life from.
She found him in the room full of boxes this morning. Until they could clear out a room for him, or find a new apartment, Jorge was living in Gemma's little space in the Mansion. For the first days out of the hospital, she hoped to make the transition a little easier for him. Gemma pushed the door open, and found Jorge diggind around in some of the boxes.
>>”Best Halloween Costume of my 8th grade class. Went as the lead singer from K.I.S.S. Parents were shocked but all my friends and the judges loved it. I guess I can’t believe that you managed to save it.”
"I guess I was not ready to throw anything out yet." Gemma admitted, walking over to sit on the bed next to Jorge. "And I was hoping that Chase might appreciate the memories later."
>>”I honestly don’t know if I can ever thank you for enough for everything you’ve done, Gem. I…I don’t even know where to begin…”
Gemma could tell that Jorge was feeling guilty. She had known for a while, as she visited him at the hospital day after day. It was not logical for him to think he had done anything wrong - but then again, feelings were rarely ever logical. She put a hand on Jorge's shoulder.
"You don't need to thank me for anything" she said gently "I am so, so happy that you are back... It means the world to me already. I was doing what I thought worked best."

Jorge
Jorge sighed as he looked over at the woman who had walked in and sat next to him. She was one of the first visions he saw when he came back and was the first name on his lips when he started to become coherent. Gemma Taylor, the woman that Jorge had never expected to meet, never expected to fall in love with, and never expected to leave, had still come back to him. In all honesty he wouldn’t have blamed her if she had decided to call it all quits. After all, he had been gone for so long so why did she even attempt to stay as long as she did? It didn’t make sense when he first tried to think about it but at the end he had to guess that that was just what love was. If the situation had been reversed, he would have come back to her.
After sharing his story about the trophy, he marveled that she had managed to save the little trinket. Her answer brought the small sparkle of tears to the corners of his eyes. She wasn’t ready to toss any of it and she had hoped that Chase would have appreciated the memories one day. It was the type of answer that could warm the hardest of hearts and considering that Jorge wasn’t a hard man, he could feel the warmth spreading throughout every corner of his soul. Every day since he had come back, she only reminded him more and more of how much he loved her.
However he was at a loss for words. He admitted that he didn’t even know where to begin to thank for everything she had done. Not just saving his stuff, even if she hadn’t he would have forgiven her because it was all just “stuff”. No, he wasn’t talking about this, he was talking about everything. She went on without him and yet always seemed to hold a place for him in her heart. She didn’t give up hope that somehow all of this would come in handy, even if it wasn’t necessarily to hold out hope for his return.
She reminded him that he didn’t need to thank her and that she was just happy that he was back. Jorge agreed with that, he was glad to be back as well. His dark eyes fell onto Gemma’s the two of them sharing a loving and tender look. It was probably the first time they had really done that, at least when they weren’t surrounded by medical equipment or doctors and nurses. Leaning in, Jorge tiled his head, his nose gently nuzzling her cheek before his lips found hers. They had kissed since his return but this was private, this was home, this was love.
Resting his forehead against hers, Jorge wrapped his arm around the woman’s slender waist and pulled her close to him. He took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of shampoo and body wash, a scent that he never forgot, even as he was drifting as part of the ocean itself. It was a firm reminder that he was here, that he was alive again. Gemma was and always will be his anchor to this world and he couldn’t have asked for a better one.
”I may not need to thank you, love,” he said, his hand reaching up to caress her cheek. ”But I’ll always be thankful for you.”
Jorge kissed her, and Gemma leaned into the kiss. It was not the first one since his return, but it was different; away from the hospital, sharing their own private moment. She found herself smiling, and as Jorge wrapped his arms around her she settled into his embrace, resting her head on his shoulder. It had been a long time since she had shared something this intimate with the one she loved, and she wanted to make it last as long as they could.
>>”I may not need to thank you, love. But I’ll always be thankful for you.”
"And I am for you" she smiled smiled softly "I am just sorry that I could not keep more of your things in one place... It will take time to settle you into a new home."
As if on cue at the mention of keeping things, the door was nosed open by none other than Lizzie, Jorge's pup who had made a new home in the Mansion in the past years along with other X-canines. Gemma chuckled at the sight as the dog bounced over to Jorge.
"I did manage to keep some of the important ones, though..."

Jorge
There was something decidedly different about the kiss that the two of them shared. When their lips met, there was such a sensual and lovingness to it that the both of them just melted against one another. Of course once he had returned, the kisses and the intimate gestures followed, but away from the hospital, away from the threat that he wouldn’t be able to hold himself together, Jorge actually felt like a normal man again. It was a feeling that was indescribable and one that he never wanted to let go of: not the moment, the feeling, or the woman whom he currently held in his arms.
Feeling her lips pull into a smile, Jorge himself couldn’t help but match her grin. Their lips had just parted when he pressed his forehead to hers, eyes closed, and just felt her smile radiating through. It was just what they needed, a reminder of that fact that their hearts belonged to one another. Though it may not have seemed like a lot, it was one of those things that Jorge managed to hold onto throughout his entire ordeal, the one thing that trauma and the ocean couldn’t take away from him.
>> "I am just sorry that I could not keep more of your things in one place... It will take time to settle you into a new home."
Pulling himself away from her, Jorge looked around the room, at the boxes that, for the most part, held his life. Gemma was apologetic that she couldn’t have saved more but the man simply shook his head as he wrapped his arm around her shoulders and gently caressed her arm with his thumb.
”It’s okay. The things that needed to get to certain people got there. The rest,” shrugged his shoulders. ”They don’t matter as much as sitting here.”
The wrinkles at the corners of his eyes deepened as he gave her a warm and loving smile. However Jorge had never been one to have too much luck with privacy. Hearing the door creak open, the man looked over and watched as the heavy, huffing breathing of his dog, Lizzie, preceded her arrival. He had managed to see Lizzie a few times in the hospital thanks to Gemma managing to sneak her in, but other than that, they had yet to really interact outside of the funny smelling place.
>> "I did manage to keep some of the important ones, though..."
He nodded. ”So I see…” but instead of pointing to Lizzie he turned and gestured towards his guitar as it sat silent in a corner of the room. ”…that’s my favorite guitar.”
Grinning at the beast, Jorge watched as his joke didn’t seem to be appreciated by all. Almost as if in retaliation Lizzie bounded out and started to lick his ankles and toes. Jorge winced at the odd sensation before he reached down and managed to scoop the mutt up into his arms. Lizzie flailed before she just flopped against his chest and accepted her fate. Chuckling, the man patted her belly.
”I’m just kidding, girl. Of course I’m glad Gemma kept you.” Lizzie woofed in agreement. He then turned to Gemma, covering the dog’s ears. ”She did behave, right?”

>>”It’s okay. The things that needed to get to certain people got there. The rest... They don’t matter as much as sitting here.”
Gemma smiled and leaned against Jorge's shoulder. There were a lot of things to do yet... turn the place into a home, or find another one, for the three of them. Gemma liked living in the Mansion, her work kept her there, and it was the safest place for Chase to grow up in. But that also meant that Jorge would need to move in, and with most of his things gone, they had to start from scratch, building him a new life. Gemma knew it would take a while. But at least some of the important things were still there. Like Lizzie.
>>”So I see…that’s my favorite guitar... I’m just kidding, girl. Of course I’m glad Gemma kept you. She did behave, right?”
"Oh, she did" Gemma chuckled, scratching the dog behind the ear "Although she did miss you a lot. She snuck in here after I got the boxes over... and I'm afraid she build a doggie bed from some of your hoodies and shirts."
She should have picked them up and washed them, but Gemma did not have the heart to lock Lizzie out of her comfortable little nest. They all dealt with loss in different ways. Even pets did.
"I couldn't really blame her." she shrugged with a small smile. Gemma also had one of Jorge's shirts in her room. She just did not tell anyone.

Jorge
Jorge was afraid to admit it but when the puppy first popped back into his head when he started to come out of his trauma, he had feared that he would find out that his faithful dog had passed before his return. He loved his little dog but she was getting on in years and he had been gone for a very long time. It was funny to think that he would be so upset over simply not saying goodbye to his faithful companion, but it was one of those things that the detective found himself grateful for as he started to realize that he was actually going to recover.
Sitting at the edge of the bed, holding his flopped over dog, he had to breathe a small and subtle sigh of relief as she casually patted the puppy’s belly, causing a couple of happy snorts and whines from Lizzie. Chuckling, he shook his head as he glanced over to Gemma and inquired as to the dog’s behavior. He was happy to hear that she had received top marks but he felt a small pang in his heart when it was revealed how much she had missed him. How could anyone hear such a thing and not feel the pangs of guilt or tears of happiness in their hearts?
The detective sighed as his eyes started to mist over a tiny bit. The thought that Lizzie had found comfort in things that heavily possessed his scent was sweet and saddening at the same time. Lizzie had always been there for him so it shouldn’t have been a surprise that she missed him, but still, for the detective, the idea that his dog had to suffer through so much only prodded the guilt he felt. And it wasn’t just because of Lizzie; no, imagining what everyone else went through, Gemma and Chase, was where this would eventually lead.
>>I couldn’t really blame her.”
Jorge sighed, nuzzling into the top of the dog’s head before he hefted her up and placed her back down on the ground. Lizzie sniffed at his feet, moved about in a circle, and then firmly planted herself there – she clearly wasn’t going to be leaving his side anytime soon. That, added with the knowledge that Gemma herself had a tough time made the made turn to her. He had explained a thousand times over what had happened to him and apologized, even though she constantly reminded him that it wasn’t necessary. Still, it was something that made him feel better.
”There’s not a lot I can remember,” he said softly. ”Of that time, I mean. I remember the last time we talked, I remember getting the assignment, and I remember being on that boat. After that…” he shrugged as his hand drifted to his stomach. It was where he had been shot . There was a scar there, faint but carried the resemblance of a bullet wound. Sometimes it still hurt, as if he had just been shot a few months ago and he was still recovering but that clearly wasn’t the case. Idly he rubbed the spot before he turned back to his significant other. ”Maybe that’s a good thing,” he mused. ”There are somethings I shouldn’t remember. And others…” he sighed. he had been avoiding bringing this up but he had to eventually. ’…like our wedding that I should never forget. I’m…sorry it didn’t happen like we planned…”

Lizzie took up a spot by Jorge's legs as if she was glued there; Gemma doubted she would ever leave again, keeping her eyes on her long-lost owner with clear admiration. The dog's reaction was really just a more honest way of showing what she, and Chase, and many others were feeling about Jorge's return.
>>”There’s not a lot I can remember... Of that time, I mean. I remember the last time we talked, I remember getting the assignment, and I remember being on that boat. After that…”
Gemma noticed Jorge's hand drifting to where his gunshot would was, and her own hand moved to gently cover his. She had spent a lot of time at the hospital talking to doctors, and listening to all kinds of explanations for how Jorge's powers kept him alive, despite him still having the scar from the fatal shot. She could tell that he was struggling with the memory.
>>”Maybe that’s a good thing. There are somethings I shouldn’t remember. And others…like our wedding that I should never forget. I’m…sorry it didn’t happen like we planned…”
"It was not your fault" Gemma said gently, leaning her head on his shoulder "Honestly, that is the least you should worry about. You asked me, and I said yes... we belong to each other, whether we had a ceremony or not. At least... that is how I always thought of it in these past years." Wife or fiancee, Gemma felt Jorge's loss all the same, and considered herself and Chase the family he had left behind.

Jorge
Her hand slipped over his and Jorge felt as if all the weight in the world was beginning to lift off of his shoulders. Gemma always had a way of grounding him, whether it was just a reminder that he was a good man or helping him to remain among the world of the living. If there was one person in this world that Jorge knew he could count on, it was Gemma Taylor. She had, and still does, mean the world to him and now that he was back, he really never wanted that fact to be taken for granted.
Jorge had sighed, looking down at his content dog, as he sighed that maybe it was a good thing that he had forgotten so much – but at the same time he felt bad that other things had been postponed. The engagement was one of the highlights of his life and he had been looking forward to making the woman his wife. However this set back clearly threw his world for a loop, one that was he, at first, scared he wouldn’t recover from. After all, she could have moved on during all this time and he wouldn’t have blamed her.
She leaned her head against his shoulder and Jorge smirked, tilting his head to lean back against hers. Again she reminded him of how lucky he was – she didn’t blame him for anything and, in her eyes, it was just a ceremony and a piece of paper. They were supposed to be together. A pessimist would complain that, if that were true, then why had they been separated for so long? But the optimist, well, they would promptly reply, of all the places he could have reformed in the world, why did he reform back in the city she lived?
Mysterious forces or not, it didn’t matter. At the end of the day, Jorge was sitting here, on this bed, with this woman who exuded all the love and care that the man could ever ask for. Just thinking about it made his heart swell a bit in appreciation. It was a state of being that, after a time, he honestly never imagined for himself – but one that he was more than thankful for possessing.
”That’s how I’ve always seen it too…”
While Gemma may have been fine with the way things were, Jorge was still an old romantic, a man who liked for things to be official whenever it was possible; even if it was just a couple of names on a piece of paper. His arm wrapped around Gemma as he turned and gave her a soft kiss on the side of head. His eyes closed as he whispered.
”…but, you know, if you still wanted to…” he leaned back a little, a small and loving smile on his lips as he carefully slipped his hand into hers, giving it a soft caress with his thumbs. ”…I’d still love to see you walk down that alley. I bet you’d be a breathtaking.” He paused, catching her eyes for a second. He had already been through this once before and still he could feel the nests of butterflies in his stomach. ”Would you still marry me?”

>>”That’s how I’ve always seen it too…”
Gemma smiled. She had been wearing her ring, even after Jorge disappeared. She might never get to marry him, she thought, but she would always remember him, whether she wanted to or not. And she wanted to. And now that they had been given a second chance, she was determined to enjoy every moment of it, every day of being a family seeing Jorge, and papers has absolutely nothing to do with it at all. But he still cared, she could tell from the way he was looking at her now.
>>”…but, you know, if you still wanted to…I’d still love to see you walk down that alley. I bet you’d be a breathtaking... Would you still marry me?”
Gemma smiled, blushing a little at his honest compliments, and touched by the sincere admiration in his words as he asked the question for the second time. She till remembered clearly the first time he proposed; she found that this one, sitting on a bed in the midst of half-unpacked carton boxes, was in no way any less romantic, or any less memorable.
"Of course I would" she answered, but then realized that was probably not the traditional answer expected, so she chuckled and leaned over to kiss him. "Yes. I would love to."

Jorge
It never escaped Jorge’s notice that Gemma still wore the engagement ring that he had given to her so long ago. It sparkled like a tiny, distance star upon her finger, a reminder of the life that he had and what had been taken away from him. Don’t get it twisted, Jorge was happy that he was back and honored by the notion that Gemma still wore that ring on her finger. But there still was some sadness at the fact that their original plans had been missed out on.
Thankfully that was something that Gemma didn’t feel the same about. As sad as it was, she didn’t need a piece of paper to tell her what she already knew. Deep down, Jorge felt the same way. He knew that this woman he had chosen was his and he was hers. They were partners, whether or not the law said that they were. They had a life together, they had a son, but most importantly, they had a second chance at life. A chance to do things right, to make up for lost time; how many are ever given an opportunity like that.
It may not have been as glamorous an event as the first proposal that Jorge had planned. That took timing and cooperation from several of his co-workers and had been one of the most magical moments of his life. To know that he had managed to pull it off with some care and precision, and to see that look of surprise and adoration on Gemma’s face, well, it was a look that he would take to his grave – and nearly did. But even then, despite the suddenness of his question, of the very simple surroundings of an unmade room filled with boxes of his knick-knacks, it still felt right and just as magical.
So he asked. He would have understood if there was hesitation or a request for time to think about it, but it seems that time wasn’t needed. Understandably – they waited long enough.
>> "Of course I would…Yes. I would love to."
The smile that came to his face was just as pure and happy as the first time that she had said yes. Even though they had been separated by years, it felt as if they had never parted from one another. They were just as connected, just as in love, and it was a knowledge that warmed the old detective’s heart. As her lips pressed against his, Jorge smiled, closed his eyes, and returned the gesture. His arm wrapped around her shoulders, his free hand gently slipping into her. The feeling of the cool metal of the engagement ring still slipped onto her finger, brought an elation to his mood. There was no questioning that the man was happy.
As their lips parted, Jorge sighed for a second before he had to chuckle. Finally he gave his newly re-engaged fiancée and smirk. ”Sorry. I would have gotten on one knee but…” He gestured down and there was Lizzie, lying across his feet, sound asleep and snoring. After having disappeared from her life for so long, he couldn’t disrupt her – even for as beautiful a moment as this.

They kissed, and all was right in the world. Gemma hugged Jorge for a moment, enjoying the solid feel of him being alive and real and tangible. She knew that he was not going to dissolve into water as long as he was in her aura. When they were together, they were safe.
>>”Sorry. I would have gotten on one knee but…”
Gemma looked down at Lizzie and laughed. The dog was getting old, and she could fall asleep at the drop of a hat whenever she felt like everything was under control. Right now she was right where she needed to be (as far as Lizzie was concerned), so obviously she went straight to sleep.
"That's all right" Gemma chuckled "You have already done that once."
He held his hand in both of hers. Things were slowly falling back to normal. She hoped (and prayed) that they would last this time.
"We should tell Chase." she said finally "He has been strong since you came back, and he's growing up... but he still has a long way to go. And he needs us. As a family."

Lizzie was getting on in years. Jorge could tell just from a glance at her. With that in mind, it was clear that naps were very important to her. He couldn’t begrudge her those so he didn’t move – even though, traditionally, he was supposed to get on his knee when he proposed. Thankfully it seemed that Gemma was willing to forgo this one tradition since, A.) Lizzie needed her rest, and B.) Jorge had already done that the first time. Really he couldn’t have asked for a most beautiful and understanding woman in his life.
Together the two of them sat, enjoying the peace and calm of this moment and the realization that they were going to be married – again. Though it already seemed like the two of them were, considering everything that they’ve been through, having a family of their own, and embracing in this sense of the purest love that either of them had felt in the longest time. Jorge fought so hard to get to this point, to return to his home, to rejoin his family, and now that he was here he wasn’t going anywhere.
Of course Jorge was a little scared for things. He didn’t want to make promises that he wasn’t going to get hurt again or that he was going to quit the police force to stay home all the time. Granted the precinct probably would have allowed it considering everything that he had gone through. But Jorge was not the type to sit behind a desk the rest of his life or even retire early. He needed to be out there, he needed to be helping, and he needed to be useful. Most would say he had paid his debt to humanity, but to Jorge it was something that never ended.
Deep down, he didn’t want to put Gemma through that knowledge that he would have to return to work but he also knew that she was the type of woman who would realize that it was his calling and his nature. She wouldn’t stand in his way but he wouldn’t go back until he was one-hundred percent sure he could handle it.
Pulled from his thoughts at the mention of Chase, Jorge smirked and nodded his head. Chase, his boy. Though not biologically, he was adopted by Gemma, Jorge really didn’t see a difference. If there was anyone just as important as Gemma was to him, it was his son, Chase. Gemma explained that he’s been growing up and that he has been strong since his return. Jorge nodded his head. He hated to have to put the boy through all this but knew that, with time, they could help steer him through the troublesome waters.
”Of course,” he said with a nod. ”We should tell him together. Then he and I can have a day out or something. I didn’t want to put him through any of this, but…I’m glad that he’s been strong for you; and you for him.” He draped his arm around Gemma’s shoulders and kissed the top of her head again. ”I’m lucky to have you both for my family.”
