The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Nate was not going to be given a break, as Sarah decided it might be more fun to let him wonder which of his coworkers could be a spy for his ex-girlfriend. He would have to start eyeing his female coworkers more closely when they interacted with him. In a suspicious way, not a creepy way—the last thing Nate needed getting back to Sarah was that he was checking out her friend.
Not that they were together. It would have just been disrespectful.
It was nice to see that when Nate placed his hand at Sarah’s waist, she did not shy away. Maybe it was just to keep under the cover of the umbrella, but Nate wanted to believe there might be more to it than that when he felt her body get closer.
She agreed to shelter, and upped the ante to pizza. Sharing a meal was already more than he was anticipating from their day together, but he wanted to keep that thought to himself. Would it spoil the date-like atmosphere of their day by pointing out how date-like things felt?
Maybe he would hazard making one small comment, in the guise of a joke. ”Walks through Central Park, flowers, dinner. What do you do with the guys you’re on actual dates with?” The day felt familiar, like it was pulled from their past and he had not vanished for four years.
Sarah smiled at Nate's question. What does she do on 'actual dates?' "Well I'd say that list is pretty standard for dates in all of New York." Looping her arm through his, she started them off towards the pizzeria she knew of. "Think you can do better next time?" she teased.
It was strange how easily she was slipping back into their old rhythm. The teasing, touching, and just general atmosphere of the day was so similar it felt a bit like déjà vu. She could almost forget the time apart from him while walking as they were. Maybe they could get back to that. There were some new issues between the two of them now but maybe. It'd be nice to see what happened at the very least.
"Now come on. I'm hungry and this rain doesn't look to have an end to it."
When Sarah took Nate’s arm, it felt like a small acceptance of what their walk might mean for them. She even teased a follow-up date, which had Nate curious of how much she was really joking. For the moment, he held his tongue and let her lead the way into the small pizzeria, where they could sit down, eat, and continue enjoying one another’s company.
The pizza was one of the best in New York as far as he was concerned, and had been just one of the talking points he and Sarah discussed over their impromptu dinner. Given how abruptly things ended, he worried a day spent with Sarah might end up feeling awkward, but he was pleasantly surprised to find himself relaxed, and even happy.
He was finishing the last bites of his pizza, laying cash on the table to cover the bill when he thought back to what Sarah had said when they arrived. ”So hey… I’m not sure how serious you were being about ‘doing better next time,’ but… I’d like to give it a shot, if that’s an invitation.” Maybe he was not the only one that had the desire to jump back closer to where they were before he left. ”I get it might sound risky, given what I did, but… this feels right to me. I guess prison made me less patient,” he joked. They could bide their time going on non-dates, but if they were just hesitating for the sake of caution, he failed to see how that would help them. They wanted to know if they had another chance in them, so why go a half-measure when they could go the full-measure and find out?
Good food. Good company. Good conversation. This was far better than her expectations. So much better.
Before she could pull her wallet out, Nate had already left money. Sarah was just grabbing her things when he started talking again. She stopped moving to listen. So he wanted to see about dating again. That was... Well she should have been expecting it. She had implied it after all. She chuckled at his joke.
"I won't lie. I'd like to do this again," she started out. Gathering her thoughts, Sarah went on. "I missed this. But, Nate, you have to understand that it won't be the same. There's... too much that's happened." She bit her lip, trying to figure out her own emotions. Did she want them to try again? Really try?
It was nice to know he was not the only one feeling old memories and old feelings during their afternoon out together. They meshed well, and things felt… comfortable with Sarah. As much as he understood the need to take things slow, he did not want to lean away from feelings he was naturally inclined too, particularly if they were reciprocated.
She clarified that things would not be the same. There was a momentary pang in his chest hearing Sarah say that, because it brought him back to the day on the subway where he and Quin decided to give things another chance. They had been right; things were never the same.
But Sarah was not Quin, and Nate came clean to Sarah, where he had his hand forced with Quin. The tainted ground of a lie that big made it hard to grow a trusting relationship. This time, Nate did things right… he hoped.
”I can handle different. I just don’t want to handle going on dates where I have to pretend it’s not a date,” he joked. The guise of their day being just a “casual hangout” had fallen by the wayside long ago.
As they walked out of the pizzeria, an umbrella held between them, Nate wrapped an arm innocently around Sarah’s shoulder and giving a reassuring squeeze. ”Another chance. Something different, and honest, and hopefully better.”
