The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

“You be surprised by what your… Dad gets up to when left to his own devices,”
He gave a chuckle and shook his head, "I'd rather not know what he gets up to on his own time. Gives me enough trouble as is." He sipped his beer again and wondering if he could grab a second. Probably wouldn't be happening if Sam had anything to say about it. Someone had to be sober-ish at least and him being the technical minor here made him it.
“So… Are you enjoying your classes? Getting on alright with the other students? I hope Sam’s not being too hard on you with the training.”
He was about to answer before Sam returned, finally in his own suit and with a new eye patch. That was actually something he kind of wanted to ask Sam about. Why did he need an eye patch? What happened to his eye? It was a question for another time, not something to bring up at Thanksgiving dinner.
"He is still in the public eye, meaning I have to go easy on him. Figure you got another month till I can start the real training."
He corked a brow at Sam's words, "Oh boy, real training and here I thought our current pace was hard enough." Alex shrugged his shoulders and looked over at Juliette, "It's been okay so far. I'm just really far behind compared to other people my age. But friends-wise I'm doing okay, they kind of keep me from working myself to death."
He definitely owed Jiri and Leo a lot when it came to basically keeping him stable. Otherwise, he might be buried in books and ignoring his basic needs in his profound rush to catch up on school and keep up with training. Sam was a good dad but his friends were definitely important to him too. "Looking like we are ready to bring out the food… Chef!"
"That's my cue." Alex grabbed the oven mitts and quickly stepped over to the oven. Looked like everything was done and with the counter cleared and ready, all he had to do was pull the food out and set it down. "Now this is gonna be delicious, I am so ready for this."he murmured. He had never cooked a meal this big, so it was something to be proud of.
“You cleaned up well,” Juliette smiled at Sam as he came back from one of the apparent many rooms in the apartment (which she still wasn’t entirely sure how he paid for). He had ditched the apron for the suit he had claimed that he wasn’t going to wear, replaced his eyepatch, and sprayed on that cologne that she liked.
She frowned slightly at Sam and Alex’s respective comments about training. Training was good, sure, but Alex was young, and he needed time to let loose, to explore the world and have fun. “I hope you’re giving him time to do other things,” she raised an eyebrow curiously at Sam and then winked at Alex. “Make sure to skip some of his sessions and do something fun. You’re a teenager. Enjoy it while you can.”
Juliette grinned at Alex’s enthusiasm about the meal. She was starting to feel a little more comfortable in the strange situation, despite everything. It really did smell amazing, though, and she wasn’t about to argue with his statement about deliciousness. She raised her beer, mirroring Sam’s movement, and then took a sip.
She let Sam and Alex deal with the food, preferring to worry about other thing, like cutlery and plates. She set her beer down on the counter and peeked in the various cupboards until she found a stack of plates to get down. She took out three, then moved on to silverware and glasses.
After putting everything out - just slightly away from the oven so that there was still room to place the food, she glanced back to see how the turkey was faring.

”Of course.” Sam said pretending to sound offended ”He wakes up at like four thirty. He does his training then goes to class then goes back to training. Bunch of time to interact with other kids.” Sam said sticking his tongue out before turning back to the food when she suggested skipping his class. Alex did need to cut loose watching the kid pull the food out of the oven he smirked slightly being reminded of his not-real son who liked to cook as well.
Sam sipped his beer then got hit with a deja-vu looking from Alex to Juliette, half wanting to look over to one of the rooms to see his daughter walk out the ice-mancer walked closer to the table and sipped his beer before setting it down at one of the spots at the table.
It took a few trips but Sam managed to get the small plates of food to the table leaving the heavy stuff like the ham and the turkey for Alex. ”So who is carving the turkey. We need to film it, I don’t think the thanksgiving commercials look this good.” Sam looked to Alex, ”So you might have a shot surviving on your own.”

“Make sure to skip some of his sessions and do something fun. You’re a teenager. Enjoy it while you can.”
Alex couldn't help but chuckle at that. "I won't be for too long, I'll be 20 in a few months. I mean, technically I don't need to listen to what dad says...I just like sticking around."he said, shrugging and giving his adopted father a grin. The man's listing of his schedule earned an eye roll and Alex returned the stuck out tongue.
"So who is carving the turkey. We need to film it, I don’t think the thanksgiving commercials look this good."
With the ham and turkey set down, Alex grabbed the carving knives, "I got it." It was easy enough, though he had never created or studied turkeys or pigs for that matter, he had a good idea of where to cut and how deep before cutting into bone. "So, any plans for Christmas? Are you gonna join us?"he directed the question to Juli as he worked. He and Sam had already kind of discussed it, though it was a split decision between a classical Christmas or going camping. Middle of winter was not ideal for it, but Alex had spent time in the woods during winter and survived, and having people there would make it fun instead of exhausting. But a classical Christmas was tempting too, since neither of them had really had one before. Not with real family in any case. It would be nice...
Maybe they could mix the two ideas and find a cabin to have Christmas in. Or maybe just join Jiri's family for the holiday, his roommate had said the invitation was always open. There were a lot of options and he was excited to try them all. There was finally time for it now.
It seemed that Alex was a glutton for punishment. Juliette had figured that he was a minor, forced to do what Sam told him or suffer the consequences. However, she had been wrong. Alex was doing what Sam told him to because he wanted to, not because he had to. Juliette couldn't say that she would have done the same thing at his age, but she couldn't blame him. He hadn't grown up with a family, so it seemed like he didn't mind so much.
“I’ll film it,” Juliette offered as she took out her phone. Carving a turkey wasn’t something that her and her mom had ever been big on, but that was mostly because they usually just ate takeout. It was sort of exciting to be involved in a tradition like that.
With her phone recording the scene, Juliette thought over Alex’s question. She didn’t really have Christmas plans. Growing up, they had done a Hanukkah and Christmas mash-up to appease her Jewish grandparents, but she hadn’t done that in some time. Since her mom died she had typically spent that time working, since it was difficult to find people willing to work the shift, and her grandparents’ house was usually filled with her cousins and extended family. It was a lot of work to go back there, and it usually wasn’t all that great of an experience.
“I mean, if you’ll have me here, I wouldn’t be opposed to joining,” she shrugged, unsure of how much of the offer was actually genuine and how much was him being polite. She glanced at Sam to try to get his take on the subject.

”Court mandated.” Sam chimed in as Alex started to go at the turkey with the kinves. As he started to carve he invited Juliette to Christmas. Something that made Sam choke on his beer momentarily. It wasn’t that it was out of the question because he had discussed it with Alex it was just Sam was planning on asking her before then.
Sam also had a habit of not making plans for things to far in advanced. Sam coughed slightly then sipped his beer trying to catch his breath before adding, ”I was gonna invite you… just when it got closer…” the air around Alex got a little cold as Sam gave him a look. It didn’t matter if the phone was still recording or not.
”I’d invite you, before him.” Sam said smirking to Juliette then smirking to Alex, ”I have a reason to celebrate the holidays now. “ the icemancer said as he picked up the first plate and handed it to Alex who would throw some turkey on it. Sam waited till all three plates were full before he sat down at the table.
”I know what I usually do for Christmas.” Sam said knowing they knew he’d be drinking but showing up dressed as Santa to the local orphanage had been something he usually kept secret. ”You two have any thoughts on holidays?” Sam asked grabbing some mash potatoes and plopping some on his plate.

Alex ignored the cold air, having grown used to it by now. Instead he opted to point out, "Careful with that cold air, you're gonna make the food cold before we've had a chance to eat it." Nobody liked cold food and it would be on dear ol' dad if dinner was ruined. He smirked back at the man as he piled on the turkey on each plate. They'd certainly have a lot left over, even with a small turkey. Not that it'd go to waste, both him and Sam had big appetites and with Alex's powers then didn't have to worry about compositing.
With the turkey carving done, he sat down with his plate and started piling on food from the other dishes. He didn't know if there were any rules for getting the food or if it was everyone just grabs what they want but he was going to do this unless he was told to stop.
"I know what I usually do for Christmas."
"Getting black out drunk?"he teased, perhaps that came out a little meaner than he meant it but it was out now. Besides, it wasn't like Alex hadn't teased Sam about his over abundance of alcohol before. "You two have any thoughts on holidays?"
He shrugged his shoulders, "I was just hoping I could spend it with you, like a normal family. I dunno, before this I'd just ignore the holidays." Sad but true. The holidays, no matter how good willed the charity, were not made with the homeless in mind. They were for those who could spend on their loved ones and spending time with those loved ones. This was the first time he had anybody but himself during the holidays.
Juliette blinked as she felt a wave of the cold air clearly directed at Alex. She'd been a little wary of the invitation before, but Sam's choked out response and the look he was giving his adopted son made her even more so. It seemed a little like he was worried about her joining them. They hadn't been dating for all that long, which was certainly a reasonable thing to consider, but it almost seemed like he wasn't expecting them to last for the next month. She furrowed her brow slightly as she looked at him, unsure of what to make of his response.
She nodded slowly, glancing between the two of them. "Well, don't feel obligated to invite me," she told them, wanting to make sure that Sam had an out if he needed one. The last thing she wanted to do was force herself into such a family-oriented holiday. "I completely understand if you want to spend it as the just two of you."
>>"I know what I usually do for Christmas."
"Oh yeah? What's that?" she inquired as she dished up some food just behind Alex. There were still many things that she didn't know about Sam, one of which being how he spent holidays.
Frowning, she glanced at Alex. Ignoring the holidays was no way for a teenager to live. She didn't know much about his previous life, either, but she was glad that he now had somewhere to go and people to rely on. Plus, if she had anything to do with it, he would definitely not be ignoring the upcoming Christmas.
"I've worked most holidays for the last couple of years. They need lots of people in the E.R. during that time, and it's always a hassle to go home," she explained. "We used to do a mix of Hanukkah and Christmas when I was a kid, though. That was fun."

Sam raised an eyebrow at Alex, the kid wasn’t wrong. It was how he usually finished his holiday season. the holiday reminded Sam of his parents all the memories he had with them usually involved a Christmas tree or snow falling outside his window while there was a faint glow from a fire. It made him sad and when he was sad well, Alcohol was usually involved. ”Close,” Sam shrugged, not really feeling the need to hide it. Juliette might not have approved but the look she just gave him and the comment she had made Sam want to be more honest. ”I dress up as Santa and bring presents to some of the orphanages in the area.” he sipped his beer as if it wasn’t a big deal because it wasn’t in his mind.
Once the turkey was carved Sam looked down at his plate which was only missing said bird and he grabbed a few pieces of the darker meat and then smirked, ”You were going to be invited…” Sam said his eye meeting hers, ”just wanted to make it feel more… natural and not as forced. Rather spend the holidays with you then this kid.” Sam said with a smirk nodding his head towards Alex, ”Though I have an elf costume he’d fit into to.”
Sam looked around the table satisfied with his company and there now full plates. ”The mansion gets pretty quite for the most part around the holidays, most of the kids and staff leave to be with there families. Those who don’t leave usually keep to themselves unless there’s a few feet of snow outside.” Sam smirked. ”We will be celebrating it.” even if Sam didn’t care much for the season he knew it Alex should enjoy it. He was a kid after all.
”So….” Sam said as he cut up some turkey and bit into it. ”I know this is going to sound a little cliché but… I want us to go around the table and tell everyone what we are thankful for.” Sam reached for his beer and took a big swig before he continued, ”I used to be thankful of just being alive every year…” Sam remembered his not real family and he felt his eye start to water.
Another sip of beer and he pushed them out of his mind as he looked from Juliette to Alex, ”This year I’m thankful for actually living. So… thank you both for that.” Sam took another big sip of his drink and stood up going to the fridge grabbing a round of drinks for everyone. Even if no one asked him to.

Alex smirked at Sam's mention of an elf costume and preferring Juli to him. Well, of course he would, why wouldn't he? Undoubtedly the two adults in the room have already gotten cozy with each other. With Alex there he'd probably throw a wrench into all of that. But he nodded all the same, glade they'd be celebrating regardless. He wanted that, more than anything, he wanted that.
It was at this point he started feeling...weird. Not the good fuzzy weird he had gotten at the beginning of the holiday season where it was really setting in that he was going to have something normal for once. Not happy weird. No this was, oddly familiar, yet strange at the same time. He tried to shrug it off, tried to focus on Sam's words about being thankful for having the both of them. "You're welcome, dad." He meant it genuinely, even as it felt strange on his tongue. He watched the man get up to get more drinks, more words suddenly trapped in his throat.
The pressure grew, the sensation bubbling in his chest, and before he knew it, the ground rose up to meet him. To him it felt like getting pulled under, the lights in his brain starting and stuttering with no control, it felt like drowning. On the outside, however, it was a seizure, plain and simple. His body just collapsed, twitching and tensing on the floor like a toy with fried circuitry.
”That’s sweet of you,” Juliette complemented and placed her hand on Sam’s back before taking a seat at the table. His second answer was a little more encouraging than his first. She’d shot him a look, but softened after he spoke again. The image of Sam handing out presents to kids in a Santa Claus costume made her smile. ”You’ll have to bring me this year.”
>> ”This year I’m thankful for actually living. So… thank you both for that.”
The brunette felt her heart swell a little and she looked at him with wide brown eyes. She opened her mouth to comment after Alex did, but then she saw something out of the corner of her eye.
Alex was on the floor, writhing. There was no doubt in Juliette’s mind as to what was going on.
Her expression steely, Juliette dropped her utensils and knelt beside the teen. Carefully, she pushed the chairs around the table out of Alex’s way and then turned back to him. She turned him onto his side with ginger hands, making sure that there were no other obstructions nearby. She called upon her training from her time in the E.D. to keep her voice steady and her mind on the task.
Without looking away, she addressed Sam, ”I need you to start a timer on your phone and add about fifteen seconds and then grab me a towel or a pillow. Something soft. Watch the timer while you’re doing it. If he seizes for more than three minutes you’re going to need to call nine-one-one.”
The nurse kept her eyes on the teen, watching for choking hazards and signs that the seizure was stopping. ”Do you know his medical history? Has he had seizures before?” she asked, calling back to Sam.

When he stood and heard the words he smirked a little. Alex called him dad as about as often as he called the kid son. At first he did it to make others feel uneasy like he was actually responsible for someone, ‘be afraid’ but the more he did it the more he didn’t mind actually hearing the word ‘dad’. Frankly he was just glad it wasn’t a screaming kid.
Sam’s stomach dropped as he touched the fridge door to pull it open. The body temperature rose suddenly in Alex, as his ‘son’ quickly dropped to the floor and start seizing. The pit in his stomach grew as he looked to the window first to make sure there was no signs of entry. It was a safe house and no one was supposed to know he lived there so it couldn’t have been a gunman right? No it wasn’t a hit man.
His mostly emptied beer shattered on the floor as Sam ran over to both Alex and Juliette. Thankful for her profession his hearing dialed in as he found her talking to him. Normally he would have been in ‘go’ mode but he was so taken unaware it took him a second to focus on her voice. Without a thought an without out hearing the words exactly he pulled his wallet dropped it next to her and quickly made his way into the closest bedroom.
Apparently he heard her because his phone was already out and the counting was already displaying in his mind. Pillow in hand Sam exited the room and responded with a quick ”No! 15!” he reread the notes quickly in his mind and determined that while he did have unknown medical history of the kid there was no show of seizures before.
”Nope, this is new to me.” Sam said as he slid next to Juliette and the seizing Alex. ”Haven’t dealt with this too much. Might need to give me a walk through. Drop the temperature wallet mouth?” Sam didn’t realize it but he was yelling and had a fair amount of concern in his voice. Sam slid the pillow towards Alex’s head pretty sure it needed a pillow. Biting the tongue, and injuring the head were two symptoms he knew of he added quickly the rise in body temperature as Alex’s limbs and body thrashed.
”If it is mutation related this is new to him as well otherwise he would have told me. He’d also know to focus.” his voice still sounding loud.

Alex could hear them, distantly, but he couldn't speak, he couldn't get a word out. It was like his mouth wasn't his own, like his body wasn't his own. All that was coming out was just, pathetic garbled sounds, like suffocation, like drowning. He couldn't see, he couldn't speak, he couldn't move under his own power but he could hear them. That was something at least, Sam and Juliette were there to help. He only wished he could understand why this was happening, and now of all times.
This suffering seemed to go on forever, but in reality it was only a minuet and thirty seconds. That was all the time it took for him to be ripped from the seat of power in his own brain and for someone else to take his place.
When those green eyes finally came back into focus, when the body slowed then stopped it's seizing, he was not himself. The young man groaned, blinking up at the two people hovering over him before panic filled his face. "No!" He skittered back, scrambling till his back hit the wall. He looked down at his hands, shaking his head. "Oh no, no, nononononono! This isn't right, what happened, how, oh no!" With the panicked outburst came rapid breathing, a terrified whimper escaping his throat as wide eyes looked back at the other two in the room.
There was a uncomfortable pause...before the stranger in Alex's body made a break for the door.
The last thing that Juliette had expected to do that evening was deal with a seizure. She had expected awkwardness and uncomfortable silences, sure, but not seizures. That was a new level of strange to put on an already uneasy relationship.
Luckily, she didn't have to worry about that for a while. In that instant, she forced herself to focus on the task in front of her.
"Sam, you're shouting," Juliette pointed out calmly, glancing briefly at him while he stood next to her. The last thing they needed to do was freak out, and that seemed to be exactly what he was doing. The woman composed herself with a deep breath and kept her hand on Alex's arm, preventing him from rolling back over. It was too difficult to keep him in the recovery position when he was thrashing so much.
She glanced at the wallet and pushed it away with her knee, shaking her head. "I just need you to keep the timer going and stay calm, alright? Putting something in his mouth might hurt him, and lowering his temperature isn't going to do anything at all." It was a little bit strange, talking to him like she would have talked to a worried family member. In all fairness, it was technically what he was, but it was still draining to have to separate herself from the situation.
"It could be mutation based, but there's no real way to tell without tests. We'll have to take him to the E.R. as soon as he's stable. What's the timer at right now?"
Soon, his seizing slowed, and Alex's eyes came back into focus. "Alex? Alex, can you hear me?" she tested, trying to see if he was registering what she was saying and that his breathing way was clear. It wasn't uncommon for people to choke on their own fluids after a seizure.
What she hadn't expected was his reaction. The Alex that woke up from the seizure was not the same Alex as before. He screamed at them and then scooted away, apparently afraid of the two people that he had been eating dinner with just a moment before.
Juliette racked her brain for reasons why he would react like that. She'd heard of cases where patients were confused her disoriented after a seizure, but definitely nothing like that. All she could think of was that it was mutation based.
"Alex, Alex, look at me," she attempted to convince him to back down, that they were safe, but it was no good. He was already running for the door. "Sam! You need to stop him!"

”Sorry, Jules.” Sam said still louder than he intended but was able to tone down his voice as Juliette passed on the wallet but urged him to keep an eye on the clock. He was still counting so he threw out another number as he looked back to Alex who was still not seizing which must have been a good thing right? Sam looked from Jules to Alex waiting for one of them to say something.
Clearly everything Sam was taught before was far outdated; luckily his girlfriend knew how to deal with this type of thing. Standing upright when he was told to call the EMS he moved towards his phone until he sensed movement between his son and then Jules. He turned towards Alex first and moved towards the kid before anyone said anything or did anything.
>"No!" "Oh no, no, nononononono! This isn't right, what happened, how, oh no!"
Sam stopped and then looked at Alex as if something else was going to happen. Half expecting a turkey to spring to life or turn into something else. Sam put an arm in front of Juliette it probably wouldn’t do much of Alex’s [powers activated but it was still a reaction. Protect those you care about.
Sam moved towards Alex and the door when he was told to do so and in a quick burst of blue the door was frozen shut. At least the side with the door nob. ”Whoa, whoa, whoa….” Sam raised a hand up in front of himself as he got close to Alex to show him everything was cool. ”What’s up Alex…” Sam moved himself between Alex and the first nearest window.
