The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It turns out to be more difficult than Sonya had thought to move with any significant speed through the Camp corridors when carrying one end of a makeshift stretcher and a mutant who may have a fish-tail and gills and a woman’s body but is most decidedly not a mermaid because there’s no such thing as mermaids. Not, granted, that she’d ever had an opportunity to establish a benchmark... she’d never really expected to have to do it.
That was a happier time.
Fortunately, by the time they arrive at the infirmary Raina hasn’t actually suffocated yet. At least Sonya’s pretty sure she hasn’t… the mysterious blue cast her skin has adopted underneath the… scales… OK, fine. Scales, too. Still not a mermaid. seems, for want of a better word, natural.
"We need a warm salt-water bath for this one, stet!" Truthfully, Sonya isn’t quite sure what “stet” means… but all the doctors and nurses on TV use it when there’s an emergency, so she figures it’s OK.
(Don’t worry. I’m having fun with it and it will build Raina’s character more for later.)
The sheet that Sara had put over Raina only could do so much. That tail just took on a different form. From what would normally be seen. Plus carrying Raina wasn’t easy. There was the getting her past the ice, that even Sara had to watch her step, then there were the doors at the infirmary.
"We need a warm salt-water bath for this one, stet!"
Well hadn’t someone been studying their doctor dictionaries… Sara could have laughed if the situation was different. All she could do was wait and carry the other girl where she was told while a salt water bath was prepared.
She thought she noticed a movement from something that wasn't there. Like looking at the shapes that moved in the displacement of light through a glass of water, or smoke. Just her eyes more likely. She'd shaken it off when the stalkers had shown them selves, making her jump.
She glanced right then left, wondering if one of the stalkers was the one she had entertained at sactuary. That was ages ago. Had that one muscular man that had been there with the group made it past them? Maybe she'd find that out after this, not that it mattered now.

ooc: if it's ok I'm going to speed ahead a tiny bit and assume Raina's been lowered into some water. Just because I think there's no need to all take a turn posting to get that far. And I appreciate putting up with the cheesiness because I am trying to define her character also, stalker feel free to jump in with a "we're keeping her here to study her" bit or something.
ic:
Raina was finally pulled into the infirmary where a bath tub generally used for a 'handicapped' patient was filled with warm salt water. It was deeper than the usual tub because it was often necesary for patients to stand instead of sit or lay for safety and security reasons depending on their affliction and mutation.
The pain had finally stopped but Raina couldn't breathe. When she was finally put into the water everything was a shock to her system until she started to breathe again. Her eyes went wide and stung from the salt and her body twisted from the confines of the clothes. Everything felt awkward and she wasn't sure how to move so she sank to the bottom of the tub hugging herself. Her hair floated around obstrucing her view and the slits on her neck opened.
She was so tired, she just wanted to sleep. Though she was no longer in pain there was an odd sensation where her legs should have been and a feeling of off balance. She coiled herself in the bottom hugging her would be kneese to her chest.
Sonya/Doug jumps a little at the appearance of the two robot chickens, but doesn’t let it slow her down.
It’s disorienting to know she might be being observed at any moment, without knowing it, but of course security cameras and microphones serve a similar function, and the robots are unlikely to attack her no matter what they overhear. So she does her best to ignore it, except to avoid making any statements that would compromise the eventual escape attempt. And in this particular case, saving Raina’s life seems like a higher priority in any case.
Fortunately, the salt-water bath seems to help. And, while it’s a little disturbing watching the girl – the suddenly naked girl, which Sonya is relieved to discover Doug isn’t as distracted by as “Sonny” would have been -- sink to the bottom of a bathtub, nothing about her behavior indicates that she’s actually in distress, so she lets the situation alone.
"OK," she announces. "Great. Not suffocating. Now, does somebody want to explain to me why this woman has suddenly grown scales, a fish-tail, and what appears to be a set of functioning gills? And there’s an extra meal-ration card in it for you if the word ‘mermaid’ never escapes anyone’s lips." She glares at the Stalkers and adds "That goes for you lipless wonders, too."
Sara stepped back to lean the table, they had used, up against the wall. No doubt James will be having her carry it back to the laundry pool later. That was an incredibly small price to pay. She didn’t care. Maybe she could accidentally whack him with the edge. That could be entertaining.
Now, does somebody want to explain to me why this woman has suddenly grown scales, a fish-tail, and what appears to be a set of functioning gills?
“Simple.” Came Sara’s reply as she eyed the stalker bots and came back to the side of the pool. “Some mutations happen over time. A growth, or change, that is normally triggered by times of high anxiety or other extreme emotions. Something the camps here very well could have triggered.” She shrugged. “Or they just turn out for the heck of it.”
Probably not enough for an actual extra food ration, but Sara could use it.

Raina wa slistening from under the water though everything sounded odd. She finally pulled her hands up tp the edge and pulled her head out of the water enough to speak. She was pale and the 'gils' shut against her neck. Her eyes seemed wider and more almond shaped- the gray in them was piercing. She blinked heavily as the tail bobbed akwardly. She wasn't sure how she lost her clothing or how safe it was to even speak now that she was being observed by bots, and well... Doug.
If this had happened back at the mansion Raina knew somebody would have known what to do.
"I don't know what happened." Said Raina breaking the silence. "My ability to manipulate ice isn't even very strong... I don't know why I changed." her eyes lowered. She was ashamed and for once really felt like a freak. "I don't want to stay this way." the tears started to well up in her eyes. The worst part for her was how natural this mutation felt. She tried hard not to look at how her body had changed. Her face burned as she tried very har dto ignore everythin that was happening- a classic case of denial.
"What do I do?" she asked not expecting an answer. "Please dont let them shock me."
It was then that Raina remebered wha Doug had said earlier. "How do you know Naveed...? Is he here? Is he in the camps?"
Sonya/Doug sighs at the non-answers she’s getting from Sara, Raina, and the Stalkers, and reminds herself that it’s foolish to ask “why” questions about mutations when nobody knows why. She keeps asking because she wants an explanation that simply doesn’t exist… things just happen, and that’s all there is to say about that.
> "How do you know Naveed...? Is he here? Is he in the camps?"
Sonya hadn’t exactly been intending to have this conversation while flanked by Stalkers, so she ends up saying less than she’d intended to. "No, not in the camps. Stomping his feet all over New York carrying on about freeing you and taking you back home to be a princess. When he found out about your... indiscretion?... he nearly killed the guy. " He shrugs. "Anyway, doesn't matter. I just thought maybe this was some kind of family thing he might know about."
> “She will now remain here for further study and observation."
Which Sonya/Doug isn’t crazy about, but she doesn’t see where there’s anything she can do about it… at least Raina isn’t suffocating anymore, that’s worth something. "Right. Which is my cue to get back to work before those junkheaps use their demerit guns on me. Swear to God, at this rate we’ll all be obsolete." She turns her back on the Stalkers and starts to head back the way she came, grumbling under Doug’s breath about buckets of bolts who think they’re human and wishing they were human enough to have feelings he could hurt.
Sara let her eyes dart away from the stalkers to Raina. Again she could remember er own circumstances. When she’d finally opened her eyes to see the paw like hands she had now. She’d thought they were someone else’s. Thought it was a bad dream.
"What do I do? Please dont let them shock me."
Sara’s eyes widened slightly at that thought. Shocked in water, not good. Shocked while in water hurt a lot more then normal. “Just do what you have done and listen to them.” Sara said quietly, reaching out to give Raina’s hand a squeeze.
"The feline is correct in her answer."
Of course the feline is correct in her answer. The feline has personal experience in this. Something Cold piles of whatever those things are made of, don’t.
Sara watched as Doug departed, leaving her and Raina alone with steal head # 1 and #2. It didn’t feel right to leave yet, but if instructed to do so, Sara didn’t know what else to do.

naveed? Naveed was here? And looking for her? How...
"Stay here?" echoed Raina. "No no no, I need to change back, this needs to-" she was running out of air and submurged her head like instinct and opened and closed the gills then reemerged. "This needs to go back the way it was. I need to be back the way I was!" she was nearly frantic now clawing at the sides of the tub trying to pull her body and the gurth of her tail over the edge. "I don't want to stay here."
she pulled herself up and flung her tail over the edge. She wished she had her long red hair again to cover her chest but she pulled at the shower curtain anyway in a feeble attempt to cover herself. She ended up sliding down to the floor with a thump and a rip as the curtain broke free and tangled around her.
She knew now that she was behaving this way it would only be a few moments before the Stalkers aprehended her. She wriggled in the curtain as the tail flailed. she hadn't really gotten a good look at it but she was surprised by its size. She found herself unable to breathe and that pain returned to her legs. "it hurts again!" she cried out. "do something!"
but it only took a few moments of writhing pain when the tail dissappeared under the curtain and Raina's toes peeked out from underneath. It took her a moment to gain her bearings as the revert back happened much faster than the original transformation and she was really exhausted now. She laid herself down and pulled the curtain tighter around herself. "What's happening to me..." she whimpered.
Raina’s move to get out of the tank surprised Sara. For a moment her gaze darted between to stalkers and the other mutant girl. Wanting to help but wanting to run an interference if one of them lunged. No doubt Sara wouldn’t run the interference long if she did, but it might give the other a chance to recover at least. Even if the time was only a few seconds. Probably even less.
Raina had made it out of the tub, and into the shower curtain, as Sara just stood there. Feeling like an idiot. There was something about Raina’s smell that was shifting and Sara looked down to see her feet forming, rather then the fin.
Sara was down by her side within a second making sure that her head and shoulders were at least safe. That fall to the floor hadn’t looked pleasant.
"What's happening to me..."
Sara pulled open a drawer(SP?) to her side, where she knew extra camp uniforms had been kept for those staying, longer, in the infirmary. She pulled out one of the long grey dresses and pushed it in Raina’s hands. “I think you’re changing back. Not sure.”

Raina greatfully took the uniform. She wasn't thinking much about anyone seeing her nude right now. She pulled the uniform over herself and tried to pull her body to a standing position but her legs were wobbly like a new born animal. She hesitated shakily leaning against the tub for support. She didn't know what to say to anyone at this point. She didn't know what the Stalkers were going to do so she stood as tall as she could supporting herself. "Im not staying here." she said as bravely as she could. She gave a feeble smile to sara. She was so thankful to have the feline woman there.

"Remain?" growled Raina now feeling a sense of strength she hadn't felt before went to take a moment of insanity swing at one of the Stalkers. She was restrained by two guards and brought over to a table.
"It would be better for everyone if you just cooperated." said the female guard strapping Raina's arm to the table. "We're just going to take some blood to understand why you changed. If we can figure out the DNA pattern we might be able to reverse the effects of mutation..." Raina knew that was a definte long shot
"Besides, you dont know how much more you could mutate, and for the safety of everyone in the camp you need to stay here." Raina coudln't really argue with that.
"It's ok Sara, Go. I'll be ok." said Raina trying to put on a brave face.
Sara’s ears flicked back as the stalkers told them what was to happen to Raina. She chewed on the inside of her lower lip. Then more disturbed when she was told she was to leave. There really wasn’t a way she could resist with out making more of a problem.
"It's ok Sara, Go. I'll be ok."
OK. So she seemed to understanding. “I’ll make some laundry deliveries here as soon as I can.” She said to Raina, hoping the other girl understood further. It was hard to watch what was happening.
Taking her time, Sara slowly walked past the stalkers, Dwarfed between them. Did they know the value of picking their battles?
