The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Now, she was rambling. He let her. They weren't bad things. More like cute things. Thoughts of the future mingled with thoughts of the past in her words,he suspected. Big things and big ideas and changing the world. She asked him a question, and he kissed the top of her hand.
"Nothing is set in stone, Buttercup." He said gently, lips brushing against her skin. "With enough effort and wishing, anything can be changed. Case in point." His eyes tilted back up at her. His smile was knowing. He gave her hand another peck (for good measure, and to drive the point home).

The kiss on the back of her hand was nice, and Quin found herself blushing as Ashton spoke. He always said things like that, and was always almost wistful at times. Things had happened because they had had to happen. Objects in motion staying on a collision course, then careening down their path and all that physics jazz that really had no business weaseling its way into star charts...still...
Quin smiled and met Ashton's eyes, "Spoken like a true scion of Jupiter." she said with a slight shake of her head. With all his protestations he'd come out looking like a text-book example. They continued walking, and Quin's thumb brushed over his knuckles.
"Still..." she said, pulling them to a stop on the top of the grassy rise they'd come upon. "It's nice to think there's some order to the heavens...that it all means something that we can even start to comprehend."
Up she looked up, at the stars which were somehow persevering over the electric glow of the city. "I think this is far enough. I like the view from here."

>>"Still..."
He looked her way. The hand-holding was nice.
>>"It's nice to think there's some order to the heavens...that it all means something that we can even start to comprehend."
"That's a really pretty thought, Quin." He commented quietly, brushing his thumb over her hand in turn. His eyes drifted up to the starscape, and enjoyed.
'I like the view from here,' she'd said. As his eyes fell down to her countenance again, he agreed with her. "Me too."

She had cooked! And it was something other than frozen vegan dinners she'd gotten at the local heath market at previous meetings. Quin had two plates balanced on her hands, and she was making her way to the little dinette set that had come to New York all the way from Quin's college dorm room.
The chairs didn't quite sit even, and they even wobbled precariously when you moved the wrong direction on them, but they were hers, and they were a place to eat that wasn't laps and TV trays. There were even candles made out of soy. Like some of the things in the vegan lasagna.
It all worked very well together.
"Vegan lasagna, and a greens salad with olive oil and vinegar." she said, managing to set down the plates despite the dim, flickering candle light before ducking back into the kitchen and returning a moment later with a bottle of wine.
"This is vegan too." she said with a grin, taking her seat.

He wobbled, but his fork managed its way into the food on his plate.
Now, Ashton was not a grade A carnivore. He ate more than just meat. He wasn't some elitist who only liked certain things certain ways, and he certainly would never turn up his nose at anything Quin cooked (within reason). So, if she'd thought he would run crying at the sight of a meal completely devoid of dead animals, she would be happily mistaken. The lasagna had pasta. It had cheese. It had tomato sauce. Those were three excellent things together and on their own. As such, the groan of 'mmmmm' that came out of him was exactly what the vegan lasagna deserved.
"Ten out of ten," He said, around his second bite. After that bite, he took a sip of water, and eyed the bottle. "Want me to uncork that for you?" He nodded towards it.
The lasagna was almost as good as the veggie pizza they'd had in Chicago. One couldn't go wrong with salad, either. So that was sure to be a treat, too.

He liked it!
Quin had to just smirk a little bit as she took her first bit of the lasagna...and it really was good. Super good.
Quin nodded to Ashton's question about the cork and held out the bottle. The wine was a new vintage that she'd been wanting to try for ages. This was all going exactly to plan. It wasn't stars in Central Park, or any other grand gesture...but eating here had the benefit of privacy. In their current situation, Quin had decided, there wasn't much more they could ask for.
"And to think, there isn't a single piece of cheese in the whole thing." she said, taking another bite and enjoying.

It took a moment for Ashton to find the bottle opener on the counter. He pushed it in to open it, got ready, and--
>>"And to think, there isn't a single piece of cheese in the whole thing."
POP
It was a good thing he hadn't actually had the bottle start fizzing over like champagne as he stared in shock at her like some scene from the animes, because that would have been a pain to clean up (and a horrible waste of wine). Instead, his voice merely cracked a little when he asked "It isn't?"

"Nope." She said, still smirking, "It's all vegan stuff, soy and tofu, and you didn't even know!"
Now that the wine was open, Quin took the bottle from Ashton and poured them both a glass. "To be completely honest, I don't know how you make vegan wine...but it's all organic. No chemicals or additives. So we have to drink it all, so it doesn't go bad."
Thank goodness the candles were new. It was a brand new bottle.

Ashton sat down as if he hadn't just jaw-dropped to the floor.
"It's good, whatever it is. Great pick." He said demurely, cutting himself another bite of his lasagna. He snagged his wine glass and took a drink before eating said bite. "Good wine, too." He set his glass down, smiling at her. "And candles."
Candles and wine and good lasagna. Was she trying to seduce him...? The only thing that was missing was nudity. Or beer.

"I'm glad you like them." she said, cheeks coloring slightly as she sipped at her glass of wine.
"We can't do this in public right now..." she said, a little uncomfortable sharing her reasoning, "But I didn't want you to think that I don't want to do these things."

Ashton smiled at her understandingly, nodding his head at her reasoning. Then, he raised his glass and brought it up near her's.
"To us," He said.
Glasses clinked.

Ashton's back was against a literal brick wall. The wall was about 4 feet tall, with a couple of bushes and flowers on the other side. Bullets (and other things) were raining over the wall's top. His hands fumbled with ammo and his gun. He didn't like shooting people, but desperate times...
How the heck had they gotten caught in-between two rival gangs of mutant teenagers? Coming to another officer's aid, who'd been the first to get caught in-between the two groups was the answer. He looked to Quin. They still needed to rescue him.
Luckily (or unluckily, depending on who you asked), the gangs seemed more focused on each other than the cops pinned down by a flower bed and a small brick wall.

So. Things were going well. If "well" meant not at all.
They were pinned down on a wall, with bullets everywhere.
"Where the hell did they get all this ammo?!" she exclaimed, wondering if there was a kid out there who had a mutation that allowed him to create bullets from thin air.
"We have to make them stop shooting." she said, ducking down further as a bullet ricocheted off the concrete by her feet.

"Good plan!" Ashton shouted back to her. In close range like this, with his ears ringing from all the nearby gunfire, he really had to. 'Care to elaborate on it' is what he'd wanted to say. What actually came out was a harried "How?!"
The situation was hairy. They'd already radioed for backup. And they'd been radioed in for backup. Hopefully, there was more where they'd come from. Their buddy was several yards away. Literal yards. Hunched down, in the same predicament, against a wall with flowers by his ears. His gun was out, held tip pointed away from himself and towards the ground, braced against his leg. He looked worse off and more worried than them. What was left of his hair was jet black, though his mustache was more salt and pepper, and his brown eyes were focused their way, hoping for a plan and a cue.
Behind them, the gunfire still popped and cracked. It was slower now than when it had started. Maybe they were running low on ammunition, or perhaps some of their groups had gotten injured. Either way, it still wasn't the sort of situation where one would go line-dancing merrily in the streets. One teenager shouted an obscenity about somebody's mother and some activity or another, and another gang member (who sounded about ten) rallied back with something you might hear in a Call of Duty match. Christ, they were just kids...

What they really needed was some kind of distraction. Something big and loud that would be more startling than what was going on at the moment. While the kids shouted back and forth at each other, and Quin tried to puzzle out exactly how they were going to do that, sirens entered her immediate hearing range.
"Thank God for backup." The redhead muttered as the gunfire abruptly stopped. Apparently several cop cars with lights and sirens were more intimidating than a few first-responders. Footsteps rang out on concrete and when their pinned down buddy peeked over the top of his flowers without losing an ear, Quin decided it was time to move.
"Want to chase some of them down?" she asked, but was already rising and starting to head after the slow ones in the group.

Suddenly, there was a trash can rattling next to Archer on the sidewalk, and Ashton was standing by a running gang member, in the trash can's place. The kid's nostrils flared as the scent of cinnamon hit him, and then Ashton was on him, tackling him to the ground. Ties zipped around the kids wrists, pinning them into place behind his back. The kid squirmed and cursed as Ashton went through rote arrest routine, helping him to his feet.
"Screw you!" One of the slower gang members cursed, as he turned to flip Quin the bird, other hand sloppily pointing a gun. The act was foolish, rude, and it cost him something... he had to take his eyes off the ground in front of him. That had been a mistake. "Eff!!" He spat as he lost his footing on a well-placed bottle.
