The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Ghostbuster's Funeral Sedan Ghostmobile (RIOT, Quin)
It was times like this, when everyone was at the station late, when his eyes were heavy and he had to nap in his chair, that Ashton wished police stations were more like firehouses. Nice, roomy, with comfortable beds. Maybe a pole to ride down. Maybe something like the Ghostbuster's base of operations, with a lockup in the basement, rather than down a hall, safe and quiet. A Ghostmobile super sedan wouldn't be too shabby, either. Ashton blinked. It had just hit him he'd somehow shifted from 'needs beds like at a firehouse' to 'Hello, Ghostbuster's here. Whaddya need?' A yawn escaped him. That thought train had been slightly ridiculous, although he wouldn't turn down a redheaded secretary with attitude, any time soon.
The day had been ridiculous. Riots in town, casualties. Police had been in and out of the station all day, trying to calm things down... to poor effect. It was their job, in situations like this. Even if things looked grim, they had to try. Seeing as Quin and Ashton had lost a squad car in the city already, they'd stayed at the station with some others, to maintain the fort, and man the phones.
He wished he had a gun he could point at problems, to vacuum them up. Maybe powered by plutonium. Yeah. That would be nice. Leaning back in his chair, the detective locked his hands behind his head, eyes at half mast. Yeah, that wouldn't have been bad at all.

Quin was still irritated.
The trip to the Mansion had been helpful, but unnecessary, and had spawned an argument that had driven a spike right down the middle of her working relationship with her partner. The worst part was, he probably didn't even know that there was an issue. Ashton was oblivious like that, Quin decided as she made her way back to the squad room from finishing the paperwork about the squad car.
Yup. He'd left her to do that too, and it had taken an hour and forty-five minutes, the redhead determined, looking at her watch. She still needed to cancel all her credit cards and deactivate the cell phone that had been in the purse with them when it had flipped...and file an incident report about the car...and a million other things.
Needless to say, Quincy Archer was not a happy camper when she walked into the room to see Ashton leaning back in his chair with his eyes half closed.
Plopping the stack of files she'd been carrying in one hand onto her desk with a satisfying slap, she frowned at her partner, "Go take a nap if you're tired." she said.

"That's what I'm doing," He replied. His eyes stayed shut, and he stayed where he was. Just resting his eyes.
"Oh yeah. I filled out the forms about the squad car." He added. "Sent them in, so you won't have to worry about that."
How was he to know she'd also worked on the squad car forms? She'd had a concussion, and lost her purse. He was she had a lot of her mind. He figured she'd been focusing on getting that sorted out. He never carried a purse, so he did't have to worry about lost credit cards or IDs, unless someone picked his pocket or stole his pants. Although it left him with no good hiding places for his lipstick. It was a crying shame.

He'd definitely done that on purpose.
"You could have let me know." she said, sinking down into her chair, "Because I just got done doing that on top of filing the incident report." the acid in her voice wasn't very well concealed and even though Ashton couldn't see it, she shook her head.
"And I wasn't telling you for your own good. I was telling you because it looks bad for you to be sleeping where we're supposed to work."

Ouch. He could hear the 'I'm still mad at you' in her tone. He had a feeling it could melt chalk.
He let her finish what she was saying (tactfully), before he replied.
"Sorry, Quin. I just got done a few minutes ago, and hadn't gotten around to shooting you the 'thumbs up'. ... And I'm not sleeping. Just resting my eyes. Things are crazy around here. Look, even Marcus over there is following suit. Hey, Marcus."
A middle-aged balding cop in a tan suit stirred with a snort, and opened his eyes. Ashton stretched his right arm out, palm up, and gave his hand a quick back and forth. Marcus eyed it, shrugged his shoulders. Ashton shrugged back. Marcus waved. Ashton turned back to the redhead. "See? 'Course, he'd probably use a bed if we had them... but this isn't a firehouse, so-"

Now he was playing dumb. Quin pursed her lips together and glared at him while he involved half the precinct in their conversation.
"See...that would make sense...except for the fact that you're the one who showed me the bunk room when you gave me a tour on my first day." she said, starting to wonder why she was so irritated with him over this trivial little thing.
"Because I think that's the place set up for long shifts like this, when people need to sleep."

Well, now he knew one of them was confused, in addition to being upset. Without preamble, he rose from his seat.
"Let's talk in the bunk room, Quin." He said. And led. Right to the room that had previously been the bunk room, until that very day, that morning, actually, when one of the mutants they'd tried to arrest for attacking someone during the rioting had gotten lose and rushed into the officer area, then melted all the beds to the same liquid consistency as his cuffs.
He crossed his arms and stated soberly. "They hauled out the remnants of the bed frames and mattresses this morning. Someone got loose and ruined them. We haven't yet had a chance to order some new ones in all the commotion. Are you mad at me?" It wasn't a question, more a statement, even if he worded it that way.

Part of Quin wanted to stay seated right where she was and let Ashton march out of the squad room like he owned it. She wondered what he would do...and so very nearly just let it happen.
But she didn't. The redhead rose with a long suffering sigh and left her identity-theft prevention behind to follow her partner into the...
Well...what used to be the bunk room.
Now it was just empty...and that probably made Quin even madder.
" You could have just told me." she said, crossing her arms and scowling.
As to whether or not she was mad at him, "What do you think?" Surely he could figure it out on his own.

"I think it's a bad time for us to be at each other's throats," Ashton answered. "We're partners. Whatever I did, we can hammer it out. I don't want it getting in the way, if we get in trouble... and I also don't like it when you're unhappy. Okay?"
He thought his reply had been completely fair. She was probably mad about him putting her on the spot earlier. He probably would have been. But he wasn't backing down about that, either. The situation was dire. She'd been insulting group 2 when her target was group 1, and it hadn't exactly been fair. So. Nyeh. That was the mental sound of a stuck-out tongue.

And now he was going to lecture her about how they should be at each other's throats.
"I'm not mad." Quin snapped, crossing her arms across her chest. She was lying, but didn't really care at the moment. She was also hurt though, and not about to admit it.
Her jaw hurt from clenching her teeth though, so she figured she needed to say something. Especially after he tried to act like he didn't want her upset.
"And you could have fooled me." she said.
"You're not going to change my mind, no matter how disappointed you are in me." she said stubbornly.

"I'm not mad." Quin snapped, crossing her arms across her chest. She was lying, and he really did care at the moment about her reasons why. Apparently, he had her fooled about caring.
He was confused. "Change your mind about what, Quin? I wasn't trying to change your mind earlier. Just saying you were judging some people a bit too harshly, I thought. And honestly, I should have kept it to myself. Didn't really matter at the time if you were judging some people one way, even if you'd never met them. You had a concussion. If I had had a concussion, I might've said some things too."
Some of that had come out louder than he'd intended. Well, oh well. That was the nature of an argument, wasn't it? He made a mental note to smooth his tones for the next outburst.

"I wasn't judging anyone!" Quin said emphatically and maybe just a little loudly too.
"I was just wondering...because Asthon, those are big ole gates, and I ask you again...if you hadn't known the kid inside, would they have opened the gates?"
She held up a hand before he could say anything, "And fine maybe they wouldn't turn us away for being cops...but what if we were just average folks?"
She shook her head, "And I don't have a concussion now. I just don't understand how you can be a cop and be okay with the blind eye that gets turned to what goes on there and who stays there."
That wasn't even the full issue though, "And I don't get how you could suggest that I would begrudge a school full of kids for being a school." she wasn't shouting...she was quiet, and at some point, she'd stepped right up to her partner, and her eyes were narrowed as she looked up at him. "You really think I'm that kind of person?"

"I think you're better than that," Ashton said, just as quietly. He met her eyes. "That's why I was so shocked. I needed to hear your full side of the story, not just half of it. Okay."
Okay.
"Okay," He repeated, inching back from her, hands held up in the jive for 'hold on.' His eyes turned towards the floor as he stepped, then rose back up to focus on her when he was done. "I'm not going ta tell ya what you can and can't think. Glass houses and stones. But what about you?" He asked quietly. "If a bunch of unknowns showed up at your doorstep during the riots, what would you do?"
"Better than what?" was Quin's first retaliation, "Better than expecting that the people in that house follow the rule of the law like everyone else? I don't think I want to be better than that." Quin's voice shook, just a little with her frustration and disappointment.
Ashton had stepped back and Quin scowled. It was different, and she told Ashton so.
"I'd watch my back but do what I could to help, then again, I'm not putting myself on a pedestal in a glass house with a stone launcher like they are."
Quin took a deep, shaky breath, boy was she mad. "You acted like I was some sort of kid that needed to be told how to behave."

Ashton had been trying to back up and calm the situation down. And Quin had exploded on him like an A-Bomb. What was funny is that everything she was talking about, he wasn't even saying. Ultimately, Ashton's whole comment about her had about something entirely unrelated to what she'd decided to rage about. Did he have to explain that again? Because he felt like he'd stomped it into the ground. He supposed this was how it was with women, sometimes.
He helped up his hands again, to keep her from interrupting, once she'd finished her say.
"When I said better than that, I meant I think highly of you, Quin. I don't think you're the kind of person who would throw the entire mansion under the bus, just because of their Sports team. But at the time, that's what it had sounded like. Having you explain it, and understanding your reasoning helps there. Helps me say 'Okay, I get it. I understand....' I'm sorry I made you feel small, Quin. You're free to feel what you want. Can we talk about all of this more, though? Without biting off each other's heads?"
