The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

A high pitched screech pierced the air in the dark room, the mutant on the floor curled in the fetal position, muscles tight and bulging against his skin. Clawed scaled hands were clamped down over his ears so hard his claws left small gouges in his bone plating. His eyes squeezed shut so hard he could see flashes of light on the inside of his eyelids. Legs pulled so hard to his chest he was making it hard for himself to breath, his toes curled painfully. Tail twisted, spasms causing it to flail painfully.
Aurion lay on the floor curled in pain for long minutes, body twitching randomly. All he could feel was a white hot pain all throughout his body, his ears rang, but otherwise hearing nothing. It took a long time for his muscles to relax enough to stop being painful. When the ringing in his ears lessened and became bearable, he tried opening his eyes. For a moment he couldn't see anything but white, everywhere.
Sensory overload over, and fading, Aurion's mind seemed to start working again.
He remembered a pressure hit him, once, twice, a blinding light, and a more intense heat than he had ever felt before. Breathing heavy and labored, Aurion tried to get his thoughts to be coherent enough and less chaotic to think straight. Vision cleared, for the most part, the lizard man looked around where he lay. There was a nagging feeling in his gut, an uneasiness he felt about his surroundings. It had an ethereal quality to it, familiar, yet, at the same time, unknown and alien. Pushing himself up with his shaking arms, he sat, legs still under him a bit, and stared. He didn't focus on any thing in the room because there was nothing in it to focus on.
Nothing except the scratches and and claw marks around the room, floor and ceiling. He stared at them. The longer he stared and looked around the more the fog in his mind lifted. He knew this room, knew it well, very well. His eyes slid to the door, a solid, reflective, solid steel plate. The only thing that made the steel look like something besides a part of the wall was the distinctive lever and bar handles on his side of it. It was a while until his mind figured out what had happened.
'I was asleep...? Never had a dream that vivid and strong before though...' That thought let everything he had dreamed rush through his mind. Aurion clutched his head again. It felt like his head would split with all the memories that rushed through it. Sounds, images, feelings, actions. It all assaulted his mind at once. It might have been easier to understand if it had the courtesy to go from beginning to end, in order, but he had no such luck. It was chaos.
Most of it was disturbing and made him uncomfortable, but nothing he couldn't deal with or somehow rationalize. His eye twitched as the phantom pain of ink in his eye stung him. The next image of Alli against a wall, bleeding, by his actions, roiled his gut. His thoughts, his words...Aurion's mind focused, he saw and felt his hands on her chest...
He didn't see his room at Sanctuary anymore, he was in the dream memory. His gaze roving over her body, he felt himself react in a way he hadn't before, he could feel his heart thudding, pounding in his chest. Then he was kissing her....
Aurion couldn't help but feel shocked by the action, yet he understood how his dream self felt when he was reminded that he couldn't feel through the scales on his body. Dream Aurion's words hit him then once Allison was unconscious. Words were one thing...but...
Gagging, Aurion ungracefully stumbled to his feet. A hand clamped down on his mouth until he scrambled to the bathroom. In his haste to lift the seat, he broke the tank. He lost it then, everything that was in his stomach and then some. He knelt there, retching and heaving, for a long time. It was so painful and lasted so long he could not breath for a long time, his muscles having locked with the force of his retching. It was like he was being strangled and crushed at the same time. When he was finally able to get some air again, he saw red tears falling from his face into the bowl. Considering that was what he had done to Allison, even if it was a dream, it was fitting, that's what he told himself before the thought made him heave again.
After a time he finally got up, water dripping from his legs, the toilet tank spewing water the whole time. Absently he grabbed the pipe, bent and twisted it so the water stopped. He looked at the mirror on the wall, which was actually just a polished sheet of thin metal. Looking at himself he felt sick and empty, and he looked it. "Gah." He spat onto the floor as he splashed his way out of the bathroom and shut the door.
He didn't feel like eating, but he could feel his insides already. He needed to eat and he knew it. Being sick like that was not good for him. Aurion slowly made his slow, plodding, drooped and hunched way to the cafeteria.
Picking up some sort of meat-thing, Aurion didn't even care, from the cook and got something to drink before he sat down at a table. He poked at it trying to make himself eat.

When Kaitlyn woke up that morning, nearly everyone on the same floor as her room knew about it. Many of them woke up at the same time, and had difficulty getting back to sleep.
Loud explosions tended to have that effect on people.
Stephen, the thirteen-year-old rat-shifter, joined her in the dining hall as they both got their food. He listened attentively as Kaitlyn told him about her dream, his long rat-tail twitching periodically. Pieces of ceiling, a white, powdery material, littered her hair; she didn’t care enough to wash it out before leaving her room this time.
“I think at the end, some kinda nuke went off,” she told him. “That’s the part that made me wake up and blow up my room. Hey, Aurion.” The two children sat down next to the giant lizard-man. Kaitlyn took a bite out of her tortilla-wrapped bacon and egg thing.
Stephen shrugged. “That sounds a lot less bad than the other stuff you mentioned. Wouldn’t you just, like, die immediately if that happened?”
“Nope.” She took a sip of apple juice. “I was conscious the whole time. So I could feel all my bones get busted, and then I felt myself get all burned up. It sucked.”
“Ouch. Least it was just a dream. That would hurt a lot if it was real.”
“But that’s just it! It did hurt a lot. I told you, the whole thing felt totally real.”
Stephen turned to Aurion. “Kaitlyn’s talking about this dream where she started a nuclear war by blowing up the whole city.”
Kaitlyn seemed very upset with Stephen for that comment.
Aurion barely heard Kaitlyn say his name, didn't even register what the two children were talking about. Something about dreams, maybe? He wasn't sure, and didn't really care, he had only taken a bite from whatever was in front of him. What was it anyway? He looked at the food on the plate, it looked alien and not appetizing at all. He reached down to pick up the thing.
“Kaitlyn’s talking about this dream where she started a nuclear war by blowing up the whole city.”
Aurion's arm twitched causing his claw to stab through the meat and plate, shattering it with a loud crack. His claw was embedded in the table. Looking at his finger his mind tried to follow the conversation the kids were having back as far as he could. His head came up slowly, eyes moved from the broken plate to Stephen, then to Kaitlyn. "What?" It came out sharp and gravely.
If Aurion had hair, or fur, it would be bristling just then, his tail lashed and slapped the floor behind him, agitated. Aurion put a hand to the side of his face and pressed his fingers against his scales and head plating and drew in deep breaths. He didn't realize he was doing it, but he was speaking in a very low whisper, "No, no, calm down. Just a dream. Bad dreams happen all the time, you know that. Coincidence, that's all it is." A little voice in his head said, 'You don't believe that....' He tried to shut that voice up as soon as it appeared. Aurion chuckled nervously. "Humans, it was them, had to be." His words trailed off into near silence.

Kaitlyn and Stephen couldn’t believe their ears.
“Aurion…” Kaitlyn began to speak, then stopped. There was a comment to be made about this development, but after her first encounter with Aurion, she was especially worried about offending him. Was there a even a nice way to say -
“Whaddya know, he can talk normal!” exclaimed Stephen. “I was startin’ to think he was retarded or somethin’.” The rat-boy casually stuffed some french toast into his mouth.
Kaitlyn glared disapprovingly. “Wow. Really?”
He shrugged.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
Aurion hadn't realized he had spoken out loud, having become so use to only speaking in full sentences in his mind. The scaled mutant looked at Kaitlyn, "Hmmm?" Fingers still pressed against his head, he tilted his head and gave the girl a questioning look. "You say so-"
Aurion looked at the boy a bit wide eyed, his hand slowly falling towards the table. How often did people think he might be a little slow or think he was really young just because of how he talked...A lot. How many of them came right out and said they thought he was retarded. None. His lips peeled back as his tongue flicked angrily at the boy. His tail snaked behind the boy from under the table, his fin touching the boys cheek. "Rat's sounding mighty tasty right now."
Aurion pulled his claw out of the table and the steak he had impaled, then pointed at the rodent-boy. "I'd run if I were you. Right. Now."

“Hey, come on… what’d I do?” Stephen whined, trying to push Aurion’s tail away. He seemed genuinely surprised that Aurion was so upset with him.
Stephen had spent so much time hiding from everyone as a rat that he sometimes forgot how he was supposed to act around other people. At times like this, it fell to somebody like Kaitlyn to calmly, patiently explain to him what he was doing wrong.
“Stephen, you toolbag. You called him retarded.”
“So?”
“So you’d better run if you don’t wanna get eaten,” she said casually.
Stephen laughed nervously and glanced at Aurion. “You’re not really gonna let him eat me… right?”
She rubbed her chin for a moment, pretending to seriously consider the question. “Not without cooking you first,” she decided. “He might get sick.” The rat boy looked at Kaitlyn, dumbfounded, betrayed. She smirked. His gazed turned to Aurion. He ran.
Kaitlyn continued eating her breakfast, surprised at how glad she was to have Stephen gone. Talking to him could be a chore.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
Aurion didn't care if the boy didn't realize what he said was offensive. Didn't care that he was just a stupid kid who spoke before thinking. He cared about two things at that moment, just two. One, that the kid learn not to speak to him again. Two, that Kaitlyn not only realized what Rat-face had done, but was taking a stand on his side. He really, really wanted to smack the kid, not real hard, but just enough to sting and maybe leave a small welt or something. And only one. That would get the message across.
That didn't happen, and it turned out it didn't need to. Kaitlyn seemed to know just what to say to freak the boy out. He was content with letting her words do that work for him, with one exception. Yes eyes never left the boy's face, but Aurion did speak just after Kaitlyn's comment about him possibly getting sick. There was no joking tone in his voice when he spoke, "Never gotten sick from rats yet." Tongue flicking out towards the boy, a little hiss to go along with it. A quick glance at Kaitlyn before returning to the boy, "Besides, raw is always better." Then he licked his lips and smiled.
The boy bolted.
Despite his mood, Aurion chuckled.
Letting out a long breath, Aurion picked up his food and sliced a chunk off between his teeth and swallowed. The action had more to do with filling the slightly awkward, somewhat silent gap, than because he felt like eating it. "Thanks." The word was blurted out. Aurion glanced up at her without lifting his head and gave her a one sided, half smile. "Is he always so...." Waving his hand a bit, gesturing where Stephen had been, "..Dense?" That was a nicer way of saying 'stupid'.
Aurion's glance became more intense not that he was actually paying attention to her. It wasn't intense in a bad or negative way, more curious and scrutinizing. Something seemed off about the girl, but he didn't know what. If he were human, it would show on his face, easily readable. No guarantee it would be noticed on his scaly, inhuman face. It hit him suddenly and his eyebrows went up a bit in a silent and mental, 'Oh'. She looked younger somehow. If he were asked to describe why he thought so, he wouldn't be able to tell them exactly, because it was subtle. So sure, he could be imagining it. Or maybe he just expected her to look older for some reason.
In the middle of another bite, 'The dream.' He gave his head a little shake to dislodge that thought.

“Nah,” Kaitlyn shook her head and drank some more apple juice. “He used to be even worse. When his parents kicked him out, he spent, like, years, just pretending to be a rat. So he sucks at talking to people. I thought he was getting better, but that was just... yeah.”
The redhead noticed that Stephen had left his breakfast plate behind. She scanned the room, and once she was satisfied that Stephen had left, she transplanted an untouched piece of bacon from his plate to hers.
“Hey, by the way… how come you can talk all clearly now?”
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
"Huh." Aurion looked in the direction Stephen had run. "I don't think I would want to deal with him when he was worse." He scowled a bit as he ripped another chunk. "I didn't talk to anyone for years either, but I still knew you don't say certain things. Unless you don't mind being thought of as an ass." When he looked down to take another bite he realized he only had a little left. "Grrrn." Looking over to the kitchen he made a gesture for another one. Normally he'd have gotten up to get it himself but, sometimes he abused his Order status without guilt, and this was one of those times.
The cook had someone bring over a thick steak double quick, cooked only enough to make sure it wasn't mooing still. He looked at it and smirked just a little seeing it. He hadn't been feeling hungry before, but he was also feeling more relaxed now than he had been. His claws easily tore a nice chunk from it.Popping it into his mouth like humans toss popcorn into their mouths he looked at Kait and swallowed quickly. "I didn't mean to...ya know call your friend...Yeah. Sorry." 'Yeah, call the kid an ass while you're acting like one, way to be adult dumbass.'
Kaitlyn's innocent question confused Aurion for a moment. "What?" Tilting his head to the side a bit he looked at her noticing that subtle age difference again. "What ya mean Kait?" He chuckled just a bit as if that would get rid of the unease that was creeping on him again. "Nothin's changed...." The unease latched onto his mind and seeped into the ridges of his brain. Yes there was a difference that he was ignoring. "Heh, that uh..." Squeezing his eyes shut, he grabbed his head resting his elbow on the table. "You know how...It was-," 'A dream.' His mind supplied in that gap.
Looking at her from under his hand, his voice was soft and a little shaky. "I don't know." The look on his face was pleading, hoping Kait knew more, knew something he didn't. She had noticed, so had Stephen, but he had been a jerk about it.

“…call him an ass?” The girl shrugged. “It’s cool. He kinda is one, sometimes.” She was still getting over the fact that Aurion even had the ability to call someone an ass.
And she didn’t know what to make of Aurion’s answer, didn’t know how to interpret that look on his face. He seemed agitated, worried. “I don’t really know what you’re talking about, but… I mean, even if you don’t know, isn’t this still a good thing?” Kaitlyn tried to sound reassuring.
Something nagged at the back of her mind, something from her dream.
“Funny thing. I think there was something about you being able to talk in my dream. Probably just a coincidence, though.”
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
An audible 'hnggg' from Aurion was the response he gave at first. "I guess." Aurion tried to shrug it off, mentally while physically shrugging as well. "I just...It feels...I know how bad I use to- do.. talk." Shaking his head slightly. "I don't know," He laughed just a bit, "I don't get it."
At the mention of a 'dream' again, Aurion couldn't help but think it wasn't a coincidence. Sure, sometimes people have similar dreams, but that didn't happen very often. When it did, it was usually because they had been doing things together the previous day so their dreams were filled and inspired by their day's happenings. Aurion was sure, mostly sure, he was finding it hard to remember the day before since everything seemed a sort of blur, that he had not spent the day before with Kaitlyn, so the similarities couldn't come from that. He knew he hadn't seen any movie in the Rec Room that had any gigantic explosions set in New York, or anywhere for that matter.
"Really?" He said it trying not to sound concerned or negatively interested. "It's nice that you dreamed of me." Yes, he was trying to play it off, but the unease was still there and coincidence would be too convenient. "Rat-face mentioned you blowing up a city in your dream..." Aurion's voice hitched and cracked between 'blowing up' and 'city', he had tried to cover it up with a flick of his tongue across his lips.

“Yeah.” She took a bite of what used to be Stephen’s bacon. “But everyone thought it was a nuke, and I didn’t tell anyone the truth. Then everything was all desert-y, and the crazy lady from Wolf News became a queen or something and ordered Syn and Aura and Isabel and I to kill people and take their stuff. And Aura was a lesbian.”
She chuckled. “It was a pretty stupid dream."
A dream that doesn’t have anything to do with real life at all. Because it was stupid. And she should stop thinking otherwise, no matter how real it felt.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
Aurion's heart stopped beating. Kaitlyn's words hit him like a sledgehammer. There was no way he could lie to himself, to tell himself that it was still a coincidence. Oh he wanted to, wanted to turn back time and force Kaitlyn to keep those words to herself. His chest hurt. It felt like an elephant was sitting on him. Details of the dream flashed through his head: Jorge leading the town with Gina as his right hand girl, the Abyss bros acting as the town's defense, Zephyr with his flying bar, Celeste's trading post, Roach's Pit, the white Bone Fortress.
He knew that it was all real, knew it had happened. He had no idea how it had happened or how things had been put back toget...no... 'It hasn't happened yet.' Aurion's breathing was shallow and rasping, it was not automatic, he was forcing himself to breath, to try and control himself. Both hands clutched his head as his stomach roiled. 'If the rest was rea....' He almost gagged but pushed it away, 'Then that means..' Silently he mouthed 'Allison'.
His eyes snapped to Kaitlyn, fury, murder, pain, and hate making them shine. Both fists came down on the table with all the force he had as he growled, "Your fault!" The table all but screamed as it broke where he had struck it. Grabbing each half in one hand, he shoved them away violently as he stood to loom over Kaitlyn. His lips were pulled back from his teeth, fingers flexed, tail lashed angrily from side to side.
'If I kill her, she won't be able to...' Aurion shuddered, 'And I won't - to her.' He swallowed. Part of him wanted to tear this girl in front of him apart, to prevent what she will/did/might/could do. There was another part, more reasonable, that was smaller and being smothered, that knew that whatever Kaitlyn's actions, and despite what happened in the dream, Aurion could deal with most of it, was okay with much of it, but he wasn't, couldn't, be okay with what he had don--almost done--halfway did to Allison.

Kaitlyn flinched, putting her hands between herself and the lizard-man.
KRACKOOM
The world was a blur. She was falling backwards. No, flying. She tucked her head in, rolled backwards when she hit the ground, ended up flat on her stomach.
Her neck hurt from the fall. Her arms hurt from the blast. Aurion would probably have it a lot worse than she did. She scrambled to her feet.
“What’s wrong with you?” she shouted.
Most of the other residents in the room stopped and looked at them, with the notable exception of Gerald, whose waffles were now stuck to his face, oozing maple syrup down onto his shirt. That wasn’t Kaitlyn’s fault, though. That’s just how Gerald eats, and he was content to keep doing so, far away from all those affected by the blast. Like Gerald, many of those unfortunates were now wearing their breakfast, but they weren’t as happy about it, and most of them were either sprawled on the floor or draped over broken tables and chairs.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
If Aurion hadn't been looming over the girl, when she flinched back and launched a massive shock wave at him, it would have caught him under the chin and probably snapped his neck before he ever hit the ground. But he had been, so he was mostly hit in the chest, and sent rebounding off the ceiling some feet away from the table to end his flight smashing into another table. That hurt, a lot. Aurion may have armored scales and can take an unbelievable amount of punishment, but shock waves aren't anything to spit at, that stuff is like a solid wave a pure force that feels like it goes right through you, compressing your front to your back, and if you're lucky (or maybe unlucky), everything goes back to normal, mostly, and you're still alive. And you can bet your ass it hurt like hell.
And to add insult to injury, when he came down, the edge of the table caught his fall, right in his gut.
His vision swam for just a moment, or two, as he pulled himself up and focused. Seeing Kaitlyn he began to stalk towards her. When he saw the girl get up he braced himself for another wave, but it didn't come, instead she yelled at him. “What’s wrong with you?”
So he yelled back. "You are! You did it, all of it was because of you! If you hadn-" He choked up from the burst of memory in his skull. "Hadn't blown everything up...! How many of us," He swept his arm around to include all of Sanctuary, "Did you kill, huh?! Your fault my world was destroyed and taken from me! You're why the family was ripped apart!"
Aurion started growling with every word, "It's. All. Your. Fault." Aurion bolted at her, poised to tear he throat from her body, to slam her into the wall, to pound her to pulp. Even though he wanted to, so badly, knew for curtain deep inside himself that if he killer now, that future would be avoided. He knew it, in every fiber of himself... He knew just as strongly that he couldn't do it.
She was just a kid! She was only what? 13, 14 when it happened? He couldn't hit her, he'd killed people for doing just what he was about to do.
His arm had already gone back and made its way forward to literally slap the girl's head off her shoulders. He checked himself so that the most it would do is redden her face, maybe rock her to the side an inch or so, maybe cause her to fall over.
