The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Clyde heard Elke insist that her sister was not real. Then, his eyes widened as she fell from the tree. There wasn't much he could do to keep her from hitting the ground. He knew it; sitting up there wasn't safe. At least the branch Elke was sitting on wasn't too high... wait, Elke was on the ground AND in the tree! There were two of her! Clyde couldn't help but show just a bit of shock for what he could see. So that's what she meant when she said her “sister” wasn't real. She could duplicate herself. That was a mutant power, wasn't it?
“That explains a lot. Didn't expect to see another mutant,” he commented, trying to not act too surprised. In reality, he had to remind himself that he was now in New York City, and there were a lot more mutants there than in a lot of other places. Despite being one himself and having met a couple of others, he still was not used to being around other mutants. Mostly, it was because mutations varied so much that he didn't know what to look for.
For a second, Clyde looked back and forth between both Elkes, trying to determine which one was real. He finally decided it was the one in the tree because she continued talking. Elke mentioned something about them melting after a day. That sounded like a messy way to go.
As she continued, it became even more evident that Elke hated school. She seemed a little young to be deciding that, but honestly, he was hiding that fact that he wasn't exactly the biggest fan of school, either. It wasn't the learning part that bothered him - that, he could handle. It was more of the environment that bothered him. Being smaller than his peers made life at his old school a living hell.
Elke's story about not being allow at school sounded a lot like bragging, though it shouldn't be something to be proud of. It sounded maybe a bit fabricated, but it wasn't impossible.
“Cawted off?” he echoed to himself. He wasn't sure what she meant by that. She couldn't have been referring to social workers, could she? Or expulsion? “What do you mean by that? Do the schools try to keep you out because you ah a mutant?” he asked for clarification. Hey, it was a possibility. Some people were anti-mutant enough to try to keep mutants away from any place, whether it be refusing to hire them for a firm or trying to find a way to get them expelled from school.
She nodded, rather proudly too. Being a mutant was something she liked to boast about, especially to humans.
...probably not the smartest idea.
“Cawted off? What do you mean by that? Do the schools try to keep you out because you ah a mutant?”
Glancing at him as she turned to climb back onto her branch, she opened her mouth to explain. Not the truth, mind you, but the same lie she told nearly everyone who asked. But... her twin beat her too it.
"We ain't allowed in schools around here, because Susan is trying to put us in a home first."
The disbelieving, shocked stare Elke sent the duplicates way passed unnoticed, as the clone picked up a wriggling bug from the ground and plopped it into her mouth. "Once we's in a home, then we can go to school... right Boss?"
The thirteen year old's jaw worked silently for a moment, while she tried (and thankfully succeeded) in holding a temper tantrum back. Really, she shouldn't have been surprised that it had opened it's gabber and blabbed something like that, as they always seemed too, but she wasn't prepared for such a private thing being leaked.
"...I hate you so much right now, you stupid @#$%..." Glancing from the twin back to Clyde, she frowned... then sighed. "Well, you heard her... need anymore of an explanation than that?" The Native hauled herself back up onto the branch, and ripped a small twig odd to fiddle with.
"...Got a social worker on my tail. Can't show my face in some places anymore, or I end up a charity case in some strangers house."

At first, it seemed that Elke was going to be the one to answer his question, but the duplicate suddenly blabbed about a Susan who was trying to get her into a home. The social workers were indeed trying to put her into a foster home. Clearly, Elke was upset about the information leak, and, for a moment, Clyde thought she was going to cry, though she quickly reverted to her original boastful attitude.
He'd pushed too far. She was still a kid, and it really was none of his business in the first place. It was so sad to hear about. He didn't know exactly why, but somehow, she was in a situation where the social workers were trying to put her into a foster home. He had heard nightmares about that system, so he couldn't blame her for not wanting to go to one, even if they really were trying to help.
“Oh. I'm really sorry,” he apologized, looking down and using his foot to move around some dirt.
Clyde felt so bad about it; his suspicious nature had got the better of him. He was suddenly feeling the need to set things right. But how? Hmm... there was one thing he could think of. He was a bit hesitant about it at first. However, she didn't go to his school, and he probably wouldn't see her again. “If it makes you feel any bettah, I could tell you something I usually don't like people knowing.”
Yeah, she probably was going to die laughing if he told her, but she did observe some things earlier and it seemed like the fair thing to do.
Huffing, she felt like shrugging his apology off at first. She was irritated, yeah, but not enough to properly form a grudge on anyone.
"Don't worry about it... s'not your fault anyway." The clone below had enough sense to start edging slowly away. "Not like a certain clone who doesn't know how to keep her yapper shut!" The Native tossed the twig in her hand at the twin, which flew halfway pitifully before fluttering to the ground.
Then she went back to brooding, or at least attempted to, until Clyde spoke up again.
“If it makes you feel any bettah, I could tell you something I usually don't like people knowing.”
A... secret? Elke's attention was swiftly captured. Er... not that secrets and gossip were a big thing to her, or anything... she just liked knowing things. Secret things. Yeah. "What's that?" She questioned, turning on the branch so she could peer down at him with her legs dangling over the side. Considering what she'd just spilled the beans about, maybe he was in a similar situation?

Clyde noticed that Elke was quite upset with her duplicate for spilling the information. It seemed she didn't have complete control over them, and they did as they pleased. It kind of made him wonder what would happen if one of them went off and got in trouble, and she had to take the blame. That would be hard to explain.
Anyways, Elke was interested in hearing his “secret.” The age shifter took a look around to make sure none of his classmates were within earshot. He wasn't ready to be at their mercy. However, since he'd accidentally found out Elke's secret, he kind of deserved to be at hers. He sighed; he was going to explain it. He hadn't really tried explaining in words the fact that he was a mutant before, so he had to think of what he should say.
“Okay. The fact is, I'm about as old as the rest of the people heah at this school. I just look this young because I'm a mutant, too,” he divulged in a quick and hushed tone. There, he said it. He was prepared for her to burst out laughing.
The Native's eyes widened. He was... a mutant? After a moments pause, a grin so big it stretched nearly up to her ears appeared on her face. Wriggling backwards, she lowered herself off the branch and dropped back to the ground. Ignoring the bits of bark and tree dander that stuck to her clothes, Elke quickly crossed the space between them and stopped before the newly outed mutant.
"That's so cool!" She couldn't-- and didn't want too-- keep the excitement from her voice as she spoke, and bounced up and down on her heels. "What kinda power is it?" Clasping her hands behind her back, she started around him in a lazy circle... as if inspecting him.
"Like... are you stuck that way? Or do you choose to be this age?" Her mind tried to wrap around all of the possibilities-- all of the pranks and fun one could have with such an ability-- and failed.
"I'm the runt of my family. Don't got nothing to explain why I'm so small 'cept for bad blood." Pausing, she lifted a hand to her chin thoughtfully and rolled her eyes skyward. Being a kid forever?... Man, she'd get so much free stuff if she had a mutation like that.
Her dark eyes twinkled mischievously as she glanced back at him, and she shoved her hands back into her pockets.
"Eh... Boss? You said we was goin' for ice cream, right?" Her twin appeared by her side, nearly startling Elke out of her self-induced daydream, and she glanced at the clone. "Yeah, yeah... gimme a bit, will ya?"
The reminder of what she'd had planned for the rest of the day, what she'd tried (and failed) to get Clyde to agree too, brought back the threat of the trouble she'd gotten into. Gotten him into, too.
...Maybe she needed a plan, to figure out how to sort the mess out.

Clyde was all to used to people making fun of his situation. Most of the people at his old school knew about it, and there was a fair number of them that wouldn't miss an opportunity to remind him of how pathetic it was. It definitely wasn't something people thought of as “cool.”
But, WHAT?! Elke's reaction was a twist. Rather than laughing like he'd expected, she was acting all excited. Maybe a little too excited.
“Shush! Keep it down!” he said under his breath. The other students weren't very close by, but he didn't want to risk them hearing anything about this. He didn't want to admit it, but he was scared of what would happen if they found out. It would likely be his old school all over again.
It seemed Elke, who was walking around and studying him, was quite curious about this. Already, she was wanting to know more about his mutation. How was he supposed to put it? “I age shift oh something, but it likes staying heah,” he shrugged, sadly. “So, I'm pretty much stuck this way, I guess.” Unfortunately. He looked down at his feet. “It's really annoying. At least you'll probably get tallah,” he added.
Clyde watched the clone speak up, trying to get Elke's attention. That reminded him of something. The big student Elke had ticked off earlier (or was her dupicate's fault?) might still be looking for them. Mutant or not, she was still a lot smaller than that guy. “Anyways, you might want to get out of heah befoh that guy finds you,” he warned her.
The Native zipped her lips, and watched him silently.
“I age shift oh something, but it likes staying heah,”“So, I'm pretty much stuck this way, I guess.”
Stuck? Well... that sucked. Shifting awkwardly on her feet, she glanced around them-- keeping an eye out for trouble while he explained-- and tried to think up something smart to say in return. Elke wasn't exactly a genius with words, and more often than not ended up making situations worse. She was well aware of that flaw, and tried to fix it when it really mattered. Clyde was a mutant, and in her mind that made made him her equal. It was her firm belief that no one from her species should suffer because of their god-given gifts.
"Guess all those movies about kids stayin' kids forever ain't all they're cracked up to be, then... aren't they?" Attempting a crooked smile, she shoved her hands into her pockets. "But... my grandad always used to say that there's an upside to everything... you just have to look for it. Maybe sometime soon you'll figure out what yours is? And who knows, maybe it will turn out to be a lifetime of getting to play less for movie tickets, or maybe something more." Her eyes wandered away, eyebrows drawing together as she attempted to decipher whether what she'd just said was a good thing or not.
“Anyways, you might want to get out of heah befoh that guy finds you,”
Then they snapped right back to Clyde, and a grin once again found it's way onto her face. Waving her twin over, she cupped a hand to the girls ear and whispered into it. After a few moments of hushed, hurried instructions, the clone saluted rigidly and sprinted off.
"I don't think either of us will have to worry about that lug head." Squaring her shoulders proudly, she flashed a set of pearly whites at Clyde. "There were two of me when he came up... and now there are two of me in the school. When the clone finds him again, or gets found, they'll just assume it was me and that'll be that."
She frowned momentarily, after concluding the explanation of her most brilliant plan. " 'Course, I can prolly cross this school off the list of safe places, considering how blabby clones can be. Can't risk getting picked up here if I ever came back."

Clyde hadn't expected Elke to not laugh like she did, but what surprised him further was that she seemed to be trying to make him feel better about his situation. Perhaps, despite the wild child Elke was, there was some civil decency in her after all.
“Upside? Maybe...” the age shifter responded plainly. As well meaning as those words might have been, they were nothing he hadn't heard before. Those who pitied his condition tended to say things like that all the time, but he'd been looking seven for several years now, and there still was no upside he could see.
What she said about those movies was true; staying a kid was not fun. Lying about his actual age in order to get things at a cheaper price might have been a “perk,” but it was a dishonest one. Besides, normalcy sounded a lot more appealing. Surely, getting to save a few bucks every once in a while wasn't worth getting ridiculed all the time.
Elke was quick to act; she sent her clone to trick the large guy. It seemed a clever idea, though Clyde still wasn't sure if the guy was wanting to get revenge on him as well. It wasn't as if he really had a plan of his own – his mutation couldn't help him.
“Well, I suppose that makes...” he paused for a moment. Elke's clones were blabby. One of them was around when he told Elke about his mutation. If the clone decided to be blabby while in a crowded parts of campus, that meant... “Oh crap! Yah dupe!” he suddenly gasped, pointing in the direction the clone ran in. “What if she goes in theah and tells the whole school I'm a mutant? We need to get her out of theah!”
Ready to give chase, Clyde hoped that Elke was willing to help stop her duplicate. He might have been overreacting, but he was terrified of the possibility of his fellow students knowing. Them finding out he was older than he looked was bad enough, but them finding out it was because a mutant would get him eaten alive.
The native jumped at Clyde's gasp. She followed his pointed arm in the direction her clone has ran and blinked. Five seconds later, what he'd said hit her and she gasped herself. Doh! How could she had been such an idiot!?
"Oh@@#$% you're right!" Her twins her notorious for being blabber mouths, she'd just been thinking about it, even. The last thing she wanted was her new friend getting outed by bird brained version of herself!
Not wasting a moment, she bolted after, following closely beside Clyde. While they gave chase, she brainstormed what would be the most likely place to find her twins. There were.. lots. Labs had many things that looked fun to play with, locker rooms had plenty of places to score free stuff. The Gym probably had tons of things to play with... but one place in particular stood out to her among the rest.
"...Where's the cafeteria?"
Food. Where there was something to eat, there would also be her clones. Just as they were famous to gabbing things, they were notorious for stuffing anything that looked edible into their gobs. "That's probably the most likely place to find them!"

The cafeteria? Oh God, not there! “Crap!” Clyde exclaimed. “We'd bettah hurry! Cafeteria's this way!” A lot of people hung around the cafeteria, and that included most of the jocks. Not to mention, some of the other students would wonder why she was there in the first place. If Elke was right about her clone being in that area, there could be trouble!
At least the cafeteria was close, so Clyde continued running until he arrived there. He crouched behind a bush near the cafeteria's edge, scanning the area for Elke's clone. Unfortunately, they weren't the only ones there looking for her. The backpack's owner was up and about, quite obviously searching for something, and he looked pretty angry.
“That's not good,” he said in a hushed voice. “He's mad about the backpack. And the crotch kick, too.” As funny as it was, Clyde still felt that that wasn't such a good idea, considering Elke was the one rifling through his backpack. “If he finds us, he might want revenge.”
Clyde was right about everything. Knowing her clones as well as she did, if there was one place they were likely to be it was around food and people. The fact that big-and-angry, the student she'd stolen from, was around the same area wasn't good at all. Neither was the sudden commotion that came from the right, as they entered the area.
Behind a shield of students clapping, laughing, and cheering started up. The native's attention was instantly drawn that'a way, and for good reason. Between people she spotted flashes of clothes that matched her's and heard snippets of her own voice. The clone was in there, on top of a table, doing various tricks in exchange for food. Currently, she was precariously balancing on her hands with her legs straight up in the air, while barking like a seal.
There was no time to face-palm, though. It was only a matter of time before the noise caught big-and-angry's attention.
Pulling her slingshot out, Elke positioned herself so she'd have a clear shot of the clone. She lined up her sighs, loaded a marble in, and waited. Her twin fell from the handstand, righted herself, and the moment her head was in view Elke took the shot.
A split second later the marble bounced off of the clones skull, knocking senseless and straight off of her feet. The noise died down instantly, and not a moment too soon. She could hear someone saying something about a nurse from where they sat, but didn't dare make a move with the angry jock stomping in their direction.

The sight of the clone's antics had Clyde shaking his head in disbelief. And to see that the highschoolers were actually encouraging it... Just another reason to lose faith in the human race. “I'm not sure how you put up with them,” he commented. “If it were me, I'd be worried that one of them would go off and do something insanely embarrassing, and that everyone will think it was me.”
Hitting the duplicate with a slingshot wouldn't have been his first choice, but it would have been hard to go up to retrieve her themselves. Man, he hoped no one called the paramedics for something that, according to Elke, liquidized in a day. Wow, what sort of moral standards was he supposed to hold the dupes to, anyways?
This really wasn't the time to get all philosophical.
“What's the plan? It's not like we can go in theh and carry her out. Will she self-destruct or something?” Clyde asked quietly. He looked up again, and his eyes filled with alarm. A certain unhappy someone was storming towards them. “Not good,” he whispered to himself. Plan, plan. He needed a plan!
“Hi,” he acknowledged the big guy in a mock friendly tone. “You seemed to have, um, recovahed quickly.” The age shifter glanced around, noting the presence of more highschoolers in the area. “Was theah something you wanted to discuss?”
The teenager had spotted them, was standing before them, and they were surely about to get their faces pounded inside out. It was just like wrestling with Bear on Wednesdays!
Soo... what were they to do? She couldn't exactly book it and leave Clyde on his own, seeing as they shared a mutant bond and all... but there was no way in hell she could take down the giant teen on her own, and Clyde didn't exactly look like much help in a fight. She'd just have to resort to how she always dealt with Badger, then.
"You little bra--" The teen had barely come to a stop, his fists clenched and one finger pointed directly in Elke's face, when she heaved her leg back and sent it crashing straight between his legs. It connected solidly, either because he hadn't expected her to try the same trick twice, or because god had an awesome sense of humor. Elke was willing to go with the latter, while she reached to grab Clyde's hand and drag him off. "Book it!"
All they had to do now was drag the clone and make it off school grounds, and they'd be safe. Well... if everything went as planned that is.

Clyde thought he was going to get it for talking to the guy the way he did. But, for some reason, the big guy didn't pay attention to what he'd said, instead focusing on Elke. He must have been a lot angrier at her for the groin attack. Clyde guessed he'd go for her first, then him. Crap.
But before the big teen was able to do anything, Elke kicked him in the fork. Again. It was funny that that happened a second time, but still. Ouch. He was going to be beyond furious once he recovered.
Like the time before, Elke had grabbed him and tried to pull him along. Clyde was not going to question it this time, either. He started to sprint as fast as he could. “He's going to be boiling mad fo that,” Clyde remarked to Elke as he ran. Hell hath no fury like a teenage boy who has been kicked in the nuts twice.
