The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Vicente was already beginning to get frustrated. Though he already knew what that this was probably a long shot, just scrolling through all the photos of various people, he quickly found that none of them were him; that was both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because on glance at it showed that he was not a famous person but neither was he America’s most wanted; and it was a curse because it made his search as hard as he figured it was going to be.
Great. Now what was he to do. He had to admit that the police were probably the easiest solution to his issues but there was something in him, something that made his pulse quicken just a tiny bit; he didn’t want to go to the police. Something told him not to.
That was just a great feeling to have when one was trying to find himself. But he was not going to give up just yet. Maybe he could do it by himself. But he needed a better resource than just scrolling through a list of random pictures; especially if they all consisted of that old mariachi man who looked like he needed to retire from show business!
He sighed and sat back in is chair. Where to now?
>> “Try Googling “missing persons” instead…Then it’ll bring up databases where you can look-up names and such. I’m guessing.”
“Oh, thanks,” he said as he turned and smiled at the young woman.
He had to admit that she was definitely good about hiding her curiosity. He was more than sure than anyone else, by now, would have bombarded him with question. She, though, was merely trying to observe from a distance. He appreciated that.
Turning back to the screen, he typed in “missing persons” and several links popped up. There was in a New York website created specifically for missing people! Clicking on that, Vicente went a little wide-eyed at the sheer volume of people who were missing in the state alone. It was so easy to vanish, unfortunately. He wondered if someone was even looking for him.
He began to scroll through the pictures of missing people but paused only long enough to glance at Gina again. She had been so helpful, it would probably be rude to shun her away now. Besides…maybe she could help.
He turned and gave her another warm smile.
“I know you’re curious,” he said a little shyly. “You can ask me, you know.” His shoulders shrugged along with his words before he continued on. “I’ve nothing to hide.”

>> “Oh, thanks.”
“No problem,” Gina replied, returning the smile. Vicente looked back towards the computer, and Gina folded her legs casually, resting her arms upon her knees. Her suggestion seemed to have brought up a more fruitful search. Vicente eagerly found a website, and scrolled down the page. Once again, his eyes found her, over his shoulder. Gina politely pretended to glance about the library.
>> “I know you’re curious. You can ask me, you know. I’ve nothing to hide.”
“Of course you don’t,” Gina answered back, laughing briefly, “It’s just some mutants are a little more secretive about their back-stories than others. Could be a touchy thing to ask a guy you just met…”
Gina readjusted how she was sitting, tucking her legs to the side and beneath her, while propping herself up on an arm, “Mine’s not so bad—my biological parents abandoned me, but then my adoptive Mom took me in and later adopted me. Sent me here because it’s one of the best mutant schools around… the Registration kind-of messed-up her aspirations of giving me a “normal childhood”.”
It was a brief summary, but concise. Gina shifted her gaze towards Vicente, surveying him kindly.
“What’s your story?”
Gina was of the school of thought that Vicente was looking to see if anyone was looking for him—lots of kids ran away, so that idea wouldn’t be too far-fetched. It’d be sad if no one was looking for him, though. Some human parents could be awful, though.
>> “Of course you don’t…It’s just some mutants are a little more secretive about their back-stories than others. Could be a touchy thing to ask a guy you just met…”
“Understandable,” he said with a nod. In truth he did understand the want for secrecy, that was part of the reason why he didn’t want to go to the cops yet. He doubted that many people wanted to be open books. Unfortunately, some didn’t have any choice. Vicente, on the other hand, felt like he had a choice; no matter how inconvenient all this was.
He shrugged. He was about to make a comment when he watched the younger gargoyle shift herself over and into a more comfortable spot. There really was no use hiding the fact that he watched her move, since she was indeed very attractive. But at least he didn’t hang his tongue out and howl like some beast. Instead, he merely appreciated her appearance in silence.
And then, before he could say anything on the matter, she began to speak…
>> “Mine’s not so bad—my biological parents abandoned me, but then my adoptive Mom took me in and later adopted me. Sent me here because it’s one of the best mutant schools around… the Registration kind-of messed-up her aspirations of giving me a “normal childhood”.”
Vicente listened closely. Gina’s story, it was sad and yet it still had the trace of a happy ending. Her parents had abandoned her, left her aside as if she were nothing, yet she managed to find people who cared for her, raised her as one of their own. That really had to be one the best stories that he had ever heard. One that he wished had happened to him. In a couple of ways, he could have considered his most recent history as comparable to her own. He too was abandoned, but not just by parents, by everyone he had ever know and might have even loved.
It was tragic not to know where one came from. But Gina, well, she at least had a chance to set her roots down with others.
Vicente…not so much yet.
>> “What’s your story?”
He sighed as he sat back in his chair and crossed his arms over his massive chest. It was obvious that he really couldn’t answer the young woman’s question because it was a question even he didn’t have the answers to. But what to tell her? How to sum everything up? He guessed that probably the most direct way was just to come out and say it.
He shrugged.
“I…don’t know,” he said a little cautiously. Quickly he tried to clarify. “And…when I say I don’t know I mean I don’t know. The earliest I can remember is waking up in an alley a few weeks ago and being brought here by another student. But, other than that, I don’t remember anything except the name ‘Vicente.’ he sighed as he looked off to the side for half a beat. “I don’t even know if that’s really my name.”

Vicente folded his arms and leaned back in his chair, as if to weigh his words.
>> “I…don’t know.”
Gina was about to politely let Vicente know that he didn’t need to tell her when the boy hastily expanded upon the statement.
>> “And…when I say I don’t know I mean I don’t know. The earliest I can remember is waking up in an alley a few weeks ago and being brought here by another student. But, other than that, I don’t remember anything except the name ‘Vicente.’ I don’t even know if that’s really my name.”
An amnesiac, huh?
Gina gave a faint, sympathetic smile, and confessed, “That was definitely not what I was expecting.”
She chuckled lightly and slid off of the bookshelf, leaning against it casually.
“That’s going to make it a pain to find yourself,” Gina commented, “Looking for a missing person’s ad based on a name that may or may not be yours… and only a first name, at that.”
Gina grimaced at the thought.
“I could help you look, if you want,” Gina said with a nod, “Could cover more ground with more than one person.”
He really didn’t know what he was expecting. Would she think it was cool? Tragic? Freakish? There were so many possibilities and the young chimera really wasn’t prepared for any of them. The few people that he told so far had been pretty nice about it but there were still so many people at this school that he had no idea what to expect from everyone. Who knows, Gina could have been far different than most he had met.
>> “That was definitely not what I was expecting.”
But the second he saw her eyes, he knew that he was right. She was different, just not in the way that he would have anticipated. Just the look of caring and sympathy she expressed was enough to melt his heart. He didn’t know why but it just felt like when he looked at this young woman…he was looking at a real friend.
He didn’t know why but the thought of that made his stress loosen just a tad.
>> “That’s going to make it a pain to find yourself…Looking for a missing person’s ad based on a name that may or may not be yours… and only a first name, at that.”
“Yeah,” he said with a nod.
God, the sympathy and the real caring that this young woman showed was truly overwhelming. This young lady just had an aura about her that made him want to feel better about his predicament. It was to the point that he began to wonder if she had a hidden power that she was not being completely upfront about.
>> “I could help you look, if you want…Could cover more ground with more than one person.”
He blinked as he looked up at to her. She really just offered to help him? Someone whom she had never met before? It was such a warm feeling to be presented with this kind of generosity that Vicente really just didn’t know how to react. To be honest he was fairly stunned but as that washed away he finally just smiled at the young woman.
“T-That’d…be great,” he muttered. “But I couldn’t ask you do that. It’s not your problem…”

Gina could tell Vicente was going to decline when Vicente reacted in such a disbelieving way. Were there people out there that were really this nice? Yes, Gina was. She got joy out of making others happy. Doing favors was her favorite thing to do. Funnily enough, people just had a hard time believing that.
>> “T-That’d…be great. But I couldn’t ask you do that. It’s not your problem…”
“You don’t have to ask me,” Gina said frankly, “And it’s no problem at all. Just computer work. I don’t mind.”
She lilted towards a computer beside Vicente and spun the seat around backwards, resting her arms on the back rest as she faced him.
“Once you get your own username and password, we can search together.”
And that was that. Gina rested her head upon her hand, smirking. It was then that a thought occurred to her.
“Besides which, if that doesn’t work out, you’ve got something going for you that someone searching for someone else might not have,” Gina stated, nodding sagely. Besides an accomplice, that is.
Vicente still tried to wrap his mind around the fact that he met someone so nice and sweet. Just from the tone of her voice, it was obvious that she really wanted to help him. He didn’t know why the idea startled him since it seemed that most of the people he ran into here at the mansion were on friendly terms and only wanted what was best. Andrea was the one who risked life and limb to bring him here, Rebecca was sweet (when she wasn’t trying to kill him), and now this young lady? He didn’t know what good deed he had done to achieve this, but he was thankful.
But could he really put her through the mess of helping him figure out who he was? It seemed a bit selfish on his part. There was something about her eyes, though. Something extraordinarily sweet about her gaze that made him feel like no matter what, she was here to help.
>> “You don’t have to ask me…And it’s no problem at all. Just computer work. I don’t mind…Once you get your own username and password, we can search together.”
He lowered his gaze momentarily back to the screen. There was so many people who were missing in just this state alone! What if he wasn’t even from here? That would indeed be far more time consuming and would result in several hours of searching and seeking every day. And that was no guarantee he would even find anything! But with help…maybe there was a better chance?
He looked up and paused when she saw the look she gave him. She really was quite pretty. It was her eyes…it would always be her eyes…
>> “Besides which, if that doesn’t work out, you’ve got something going for you that someone searching for someone else might not have,”

The gargoyle plopped down in a neighboring seat, facing sideways so that she faced Vicente. Quite without any form of self-consciousness, Gina took Vicente’s hand, palm-up, in both of hers, and held it lightly, but with emphasis.
“Handprints,” the gargoyle said simply, patting his hand lightly.
Perhaps there was need for an explanation? So, Gina launched into one, “When I was little, we—as in, my brothers and I—had our fingerprints taken at the police station. It was my Mom’s idea. That way, if we were ever kidnapped, they had the fingerprints there just in-case. Or something like that, I forget.”
“But, who’s to say your Mom didn’t do that?” Gina said lightly, “I mean, I know you want to do it on your own, but if you get fed-up… that’s always worth a shot.”
Gina realized that Vicente’s hand was still balanced clasped in two of hers—in that same realization, the gargoyle seemed to recall that while she had no qualms about touching other people, this might be embarrassing or even offensive to others. Gina dropped Vicente’s hand bashfully and folded her arms, so that her hands dropped on either side of her lap.
“Sorry,” Gina breathed, giving a lopsided smile, “I’ve got, like, zero sense of personal space…”
He looked at her oddly. Thankfully she began to explain.
>> “When I was little, we—as in, my brothers and I—had our fingerprints taken at the police station. It was my Mom’s idea. That way, if we were ever kidnapped, they had the fingerprints there just in-case. Or something like that, I forget…But, who’s to say your Mom didn’t do that? I mean, I know you want to do it on your own, but if you get fed-up… that’s always worth a shot.”
Vicente thought for a moment. He had to admit that it was indeed a pretty interesting idea. He was what, 18? 19? Surely his parents would still be alive and were out looking for him. Maybe Gina had a point. Maybe, when he was much younger, they cared enough to have his finger and hand prints scanned into some system. Surely that had to be possible. Unless they just didn’t give one care about him.
That thought alone was depressing.
He didn’t want to turn to the police, but maybe that was his best option. Though he had a fear of police, he knew that he simply couldn’t dodge them forever. They were an option that he would have to think about.
But suddenly he found his thoughts just a little…blurry. His hands felt warm and comforted and it was enough to draw his attention down to them. There he found Gina was still clasping his hand in such a kind and warm gesture. He smiled at the sensation and found himself not really wanted to pull away his grasp. Instead he just remained there, letting Gina hold his hands as the pair of them momentarily locked gazes.
She really did have wonderful eyes.
But just as quickly as the realization of that thought came to mind, Gina then dropped his hands and smiled at him a little shyly. He, of course, had to blush just a tiny bit…
>> “Sorry…I’ve got, like, zero sense of personal space…”
He chuckled and had to shrug a little in response.
“S’okay,” he smirked. “I don’t even know what my own idea of personal space is. So, you’re good.”

A lavender tint rose in Gina’s cheeks, and the gargoyle folded her arms in front of herself, tucking her hands under them in embarrassment.
>> “S’okay. I don’t even know what my own idea of personal space is. So, you’re good.”
Gina laughed, and the blush deepened.
“That doesn’t help any!” she countered, her mirthful gaze darting aside before meandering back towards him, “That makes it feel even more grabby and violate…y.”
Even if Vicente said he didn’t mind… still. Gina was more embarrassed than she usually was about this kind of thing—who knew, maybe this boy was throwing her head into a spin—but Gina had the luxury of having just met him. Who knew, maybe he’d mistakenly believe that this was normal for her… that she was some touchy mutated chick who was self-conscious in retrospect.
>> “That doesn’t help any! That makes it feel even more grabby and violate…y.”
He chuckled as he looked into her speckled eyes. Her smile was indeed very pretty and, he tilted his gaze as he peered at her, was she blushing? Was that lavender color in her cheeks actually a blush? So far nothing seemed to faze the young gargoyle when it came to being embarrassed but now it seemed as if something actually did? He had to admit that it was a fun prospect and maybe one that he should relentlessly tease her about.
Sure they just met, but friends teased each other, didn’t they?
He just shrugged and laughed along with her as she giggled, shaking his head at her commentary.
“When you say it like that, I feel like I should go tell an adult or something,” he laughed. But he shook his head gently as he patted her hand. “I’m only kidding. I prefer to think that maybe…there’s really nothing you could do to make me uneasy. So, please, grab away.”
That, of course, deserved a chuckle. In the midst of both their blushing and laughter, Vicente had to look up, smiling at the young woman who was before him. The lavender was still tinting her cheeks and he could help but find that adorable.
“You know…you’re even cuter when you blush,” he said a little absentmindedly. It gave the illusion that he may or may not know that he had actually said it out loud. Though…he probably did. It was just a friendly chat. Nothing wrong with that, right?

Oh, he was one of those types. One of those “once you find out she blushes, make her blush more” types. Boys, sometimes—honestly, just… what else was there to say? Boys. Boys were ridiculous in their endless endeavors to make girls like Gina blush.
>> “When you say it like that, I feel like I should go tell an adult or something. I’m only kidding. I prefer to think that maybe…there’s really nothing you could do to make me uneasy. So, please, grab away.”
Gina laughed along with him, permitting him to pat her hand as he, too, permitted for her to be grabby. Even if she was a naïve soul, Gina knew that there were certain connotations to this sentence that were brazenly flirtatious. She withdrew her hands shyly and covered her face, which was now hot to the touch as her palms touched it.
If the first line had made her blush, the second sent her into a tailspin.
>> “You know…you’re even cuter when you blush.”
Gina was absolutely overheated from being so flushed by now, and couldn’t seem to find the words to retort. How could she? Was she supposed to thank him? Or proclaim that was not, in fact, cute? To thank him would be awkward, to contradict him would seem ungrateful. Gina stood up, gaze flicking around before fastening onto Vicente. The best option was to retreat.
“J-just let me know if you need any help right now,” Gina said quickly, “I’ll probably be hanging around the library, so yeah, you can find me. A-and when you get your own username and password, we could search together.”
Gina started to turn to leave, but then seemed to remember herself, and offered a quick, “It was very nice to meet you, Vicente! I’m sure I’ll see you around!”
And with that, the gargoyle briskly strode through the studying area, her brown head of curls bobbing along until it disappeared into the stacks of books. It was only then that she allowed herself a breather.
Vicente had to smile. The look of confusion and shock on her face was just absolutely priceless. Add in that her face was blushed that she looked as if she were going to pass out and he was just having a blast. But he was not doing all of this simply to make the young gargoyle blush or try to make her feel bad. In reality he did believe everything that he said. She was extremely cute, even if she didn’t want to admit that about herself. He assumed that some girls were just like that.
But it seemed that his efforts to continue this little blushing race with flattery had only pushed the young woman over the line (if there was one). For it seemed that even if she claimed to have no boundaries, there were crossed now.
The idea of that actually made him smile a bit.
>> “J-just let me know if you need any help right now…I’ll probably be hanging around the library, so yeah, you can find me. A-and when you get your own username and password, we could search together.”
He smirked a little. He was that she was leaving, obviously, but he just continued to smile as he saw her jump up and quickly retreat. Apparently what he had said was enough to cause her to run off in fear. Hopefully he wouldn’t lose her friendship.
>> “It was very nice to meet you, Vicente! I’m sure I’ll see you around!”
“I’ll make sure you do!” he responded loud enough for her to hear and followed it up with another bright and quasi-innocent smile. He kept watching the aisle she disappeared down and Vicente just smirked. He turned back to face his screen once he was sure she was not immediately coming back and continued his search.
