The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Prompted by several curious incidents, Kai decided to test some interesting features of this strange power. In which he could grow a leaf. And then accidentally a peace lily and then a vine which may have saved his life. But could he do it on purpose?
He squinted at his left hand. Two of the three times this happened, it was on his hands. It seemed logical to try there again. Though the flower was the most recent affair, it also seemed the most distant. He chose instead to try to duplicate the vine. It felt right.
The squinting did nothing for him. He closed his eyes to rest them a moment and saw blue and green shapes coming into focus. They twisted around each other, also leaving him with the impression that each line was composed of letters, thousands of letters. With that rush, he also felt something moving under his skin at the base of his wrist.
Instead of blue, his veins looked kind of green under his skin. From the left fork of his major vein, there was a tiny bump. He as initially surprised, and stopped trying to grow the vein. But it didn’t undo itself. The bump was still there. He ran his other hand over it. It felt funny, he could even feel it growing under his palm! It was still growing! Without thinking about it, without working at it. Granted, it was slow. The rate of growth was almost imperceptible, except that he was looking for it and was probably more attuned to it than normal people.
Cam watched from the doorway. His little brother had come a long way from being afraid of using his powers and of talking to strangers. He could see that he was still wary, but that was good. It prevented him from being reckless. And now that they had met people at the Mansion, a whole community of mutants, Cam felt better about what he had to do.
He weighed the envelop in his hands again, hesitating for just a moment longer. Then reached in and placed it on the counter.
Kai took a break from his work-out session for some food. He was hungry and with a thin, one inch long vine pressed flat against his wrist, he knew that he could make it grow slightly faster than if left on its own. And that left on its own it would grow- kind of like hair. You don’t think about it, it just happens.
With visions of grandeur of how he could create bark armor or some such, he grabbed the first thing that appealed to him in the fridge: leftover cheese pizza. The door crashed closed after his excited push. It rocked back and forth once, knocking an envelope off the counter.
He picked it up, curious. It was a letter. To him. From his brother. What’s this? Why wouldn’t Cam just tell me whatever he needed to say?
He unfolded the single, hand-written sheet:
Brother, I’ve gone back to Saybrook. Mom told me that Dad’s not doing well- they think it’s cancer, and he won’t be able to plant this spring on his own. You know how proud he is, he wouldn’t ask for help himself, but Mom’s teaching salary won’t cover his med bills… Anyway, as the oldest son, (and let’s face it, best with the crops) it’s my duty to return home.
I couldn’t tell you earlier- this move has been so good for you. You’re a lot stronger than you think you are. I know you can make it in New York on your own. It might even push you to new heights. I know you really liked it at that school, so if you get lonely, you should go stay there.
I’ll let you know if Dad gets any worse, but don’t feel like you need to come home now. Take care of the store for me. I’ll visit when I can. -Cameron
Kai let the paper fall. Here in the midst of his triumph, he suddenly felt like a failure. He hadn’t even kept in contact very well with his family back home. He thought it would have been easier on them if he didn’t call too often. But when was the last time he had called? Apparently Cam, who was the one who most wanted to get away, had done a better job of keeping up with the news from home. When had their roles reversed, so that Cameron was the responsible one?
How long did he know our father was sick? Why didn’t he tell me?
His first instinct was to jump on a plane, but Cam was right. He had commitments here. For the first time since they were born, they needed to go their separate ways.
