The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Finally, she had sorted things out and was ready to leave the Mansion and have a day out in the city. To keep herself from being tempted to do anything stupid and avoid being found by all of her street rat friends, Fade secluded herself in the Mansion and did not dare exit. Well, she needed new clothes because she really only had about three shirts and two pairs of jeans, she couldn't keep doing laundry every four days. Making her way into the streets, she passed by a few stores that brought back memories and she simply walked by them. This time, she was going to buy something from a store that she had never stolen from before in her life. Good luck with that. Street rats that can turn invisible had a tendency to hit up every store in New York, especially if their name was Fade.
No matter, life was turning around and she had been able to keep from her old ways before, she could certainly do it again. Walking into the new H&M, since it was brand new, she'd never used it before, she began searching for some clothes. Being out in public again forced her to keep her raptor-claws invisible, people were so quick to judge. However, it was extremely hard to hide her constantly changing eye color, so she just wore sunglasses. Her red hair gently flowed behind her as she moved from rack to rack, wondering when it was time to get a hot dog for lunch, Lord knows she was already thinking about food.
Grabbing a few of the clothes, she was not used to trying on clothes much before purchase, but she really did not want to have to return them. So, she made her way over to the dressing rooms and tried them on. The locks on the doors were quite tricky and Fade gave up, assuming that everyone out there knew that when there was a number on the door, someone was in it. Of course, given her luck, someone opened the door and Fade quickly had to make a decision, turn invisible and have to phase into another room before this woman started undressing, quickly try to cover herself, or just shout. "HEY! SOMEONE'S IN HERE, ALRIGHT!" She called out, turning invisible just in case the person that walked in was just deaf, or too dumb to understand that Fade was in there. New York... some city.
Did you ever have one of those days where you feel nothing can ever go right? In fact, that was exactly the kind of day Audrey Walker was having right now as she walked through the city streets of New York. It was a terrible day actually, a horrible, terrible, failing day. Everything she tried to do turned out to be an epic fail. She was just done, exhausted, annoyed. Why was she only able to think about yesterday? Yesterday... When she'd gone out to the Park on a rainy day, and watched as her whole life turned upside down and inside out. Sure, she would've never had the chance to meet Slate if she would've stayed in doors, but still... Maybe she wouldn't have to think about Mutants twenty-four/seven right now either.
"Ah, pull yourself together, Addie." she whispered to herself, walking inside a store, only to come straight back out again. Her cheeks felt hot as she looked at the sign. She'd entered a Senior's underwear store by accident, how embarassing. She really did need to pull herself together, or at least watch where she was going and where she was shopping. Suddenly realizing she could have purchased ugly clothes earlier in the seven other shops she'd been at, she quickly checked her bag. Oh, good. Everything she had wanted to buy was there, and everything she didn't want - like old woman's underwear - was not.
Sighing, she decided she had time for one last store.
That lucky store was H&M, located a few streets down from the Elder's Underwear Store. "Hello." she greeted the kind-looking lady from behind the counter as she made her way behind one of the many racks. Ten minutes later, she had a new pair of jeans, a few different colored tops and shoes to try on. Many, many shoes. Obviously she wasn,t about to buy them all, not with the money she was making right now, but she was in dear need of a few new items. She'd bought three new pairs of shorts and a nice dress already, now she needed at least a top.
All the changing rooms Audrey was trying to open were locked, which, to Audrey's dismay, put an even larger frown on her face. Nothing. Was. Going. Right. Today! Or... maybe not. She pushed open one of the final doors she hadn,t yet tried, and to her surprise, it was open. She was just about to push it entirely so that she could go change, when a voice could be heard... from inside. Damn!
"HEY! SOMEONE'S IN HERE, ALRIGHT!"
Audrey stopped mid-way into the changing room, her eyes closed so that she couldn't see whatever state of undress the woman was in. She quickly backed away, slamming the door shut again, and then opening her eyes, staring at the closed door. "Eh, I'm sorry. It was unlocked... So I guessed it was free." she muttered with a weak, embarassed laugh, dropping her bags from the other stores on the ground and leaning against the wall, only to slide herself to the floor as well.
Relieved, Fade let out a long sigh when the door slammed shut again. She was not going to be caught in any kind of awkward situation today, no sir. The sound of the woman's voice on the other side seemed distressed and it gave Fade enough motivation to finish putting on her real clothes. Lazily throwing the clothes she did not like over her shoulder, she opened the door and peered out, wondering where the intruder had run off to. To her surprise, the woman was sitting on the floor, or at least Fade guessed that was the confused woman, she seemed stressed out enough to be the one to open a changing stall that was preoccupied.
Since she had only just rushed her clothes on, she had not put on her sunglasses and she walked over to the one on the floor and sat down next to her. It was not exactly something that she'd do on a daily basis, randomly sit down next to someone, but her days at the Mansion had made her much too comfortable with strangers. Everyone she ran into in New York, save maybe an ex-partner or ex-employer, she treated them like a Mansion residence and had no problem seeing if they were alright. To some, it would not even seem like Fade grew up in New York anyways, she seemed too nice.
"I'd look out for that door, it doesn't lock," she said, pointing to the open stall that she had just come from. She crossed her legs, becoming comfortable on the floor and grabbed one of the shoes next to the girl in front of her. "Cute. If you want, I can sit out here and tell people not to open the door while you're in there," she offered. By the looks of this woman, she needed a milkshake, but who would refuse a milkshake? Well, other than those lactose-intolerant people, but like hell if Fade knew what that meant.
Audrey sighed slowly, closing her shadowed eyes for a little while. She didn't plan on keeping them closed for such a long while however, but before she knew it, the door to the occupied Stall she almost barged into a good five minutes ago opened, but not because of her this time. She still kept her sometimes light hazel sometimes green eyes shut, listening for the woman's footsteps walking away. She would have expected a hello from normal people who crossed her path, or maybe a goodbye since they'd already spoken to some degree, yet it was possible this particular woman was angry with her for almost catching her in her birth outfit. What she didn't expect, was opening her eyes to find a woman sitting beside her. The woman, probably.
Well, it was New York. Here, anything could happen, she'd witnessed that with Slate the other day. And would probably witness again sooner then later. After all, she had heard this Human talking about Mutants on the News last night. She was planning on checking that out soon, try and protect him if he wasn,t already dead.
Anyway, the woman.
"I'd look out for that door, it doesn't lock,"
Audrey looked at the woman for a few seconds, catching her very light blue eyes. They didn't go with her red hair, they were way too light. "Yeah, that's good to know. I'm sorry by the way. I didn't mean to enter like that... I probably should have knocked." she apologized again, smiling softly. Audrey glanced at the Stall, then back at the woman, and was startled for a few seconds. Her eyes were now a deep green color. She'd known people who had strange eye colors who changed depending on the lighting or their moods, but the lighting hadn,t changed at all, and the woman's mood couldn,t have changed that much, could it?
When the woman offered to guard the door for her, Audrey grinned, trying to get the eye-thing out of her head. Who cares really, what was the color of someone's eyes. It wasn,t as if she was a Mutant just because she could make her eyes change color right? Not every person she got to meet here needed to be Mutants. She nodded. "Thanks," she laughed, getting on her feet and shifting the bags to one side so she could open the door with her free hands. She closed the door behind her, making sure it wouldn't push itself open again, and then stripped to her bra and panties. "I'm Audrey, by the way. Audrey Walker. You are?" she said loudly enough so that the woman could hear.
The girl seemed to have noticed Fade's eyes as she was suddenly taken aback when she looked at the redhead. Slightly embarassed, Fade put back on her sunglasses and leaned up against the wall, just sitting there while Morphia was trying them on. "Oh, it's alright. At least you did not just burst in an kick me out. New York can be full of shoppers with a purpose," she laughed. Some people just seemed to go insane if they did not get some time in the changing stalls because they were on their coffee break or some excuse like that.
Feeling a little useless on the floor, Fade began to fold up the clothes that she had tried on, she was not much of the shopper, so she had no idea what she really wanted. At the introduction, her head perked up and she smiled. Funny. "Nice to meet you, Audrey. I'm Fade," she said without hesitation. Living at the Mansion, she knew she was with fellow X-Men, so she used her codename and out on the streets, everyone used to use her for robberies and pick-pocketing, so she'd use her codename there. It was still taking her a lot of time to get used to using her real name, especially since she hated it.
Almost immediately after she introduced herself as Fade, she realized her mistake and stumbled over it. "...I'm fantastic," she attempted, trying to cover up Fade for fantastic, pitiful. "I'm Jenny, Jenny Mc-" she paused, trying to remember what her last name was. Damn, Sam was right about the whole code name thing. "Cullen," she finally heaved, remembering it. Well, that was sad. Fade Fantastic Jenny Mc Cullen. Or was it McCulloch? Oh great.
Deciding to change the subject quickly, she moved on to ask questions. "You from New York?" she asked. Maybe the girl was not, she seemed a bit skiddish around Fade at first because maybe she had negative views of New Yorkers, or maybe she was just stressed, or maybe Fade needed to shut up her thoughts and just say hello.
The woman looked embarassed, and Audrey felt her own cheeks go red also. She hadn't meant to make the red-headed woman uncomfortable or anything. Had it really seemed obvious that she'd noticed something out of the ordinary? Seriously, Audrey was most likely far more 'Out of the Ordinary' then this woman will ever be. Wait... Maybe the eyes wasn't the only thing... Maybe she had another special power hidden somewhere. Yesterday, she would have probably ran away, but not today. She almost did run away from Slate and caused him a lot of pain, she didn't want anyone else to feel that way. She'd have to be the one to admit she was a Mutant before-hand. Maybe she'd get a reaction where someone ran away too. It would be a great punishement.
"Oh, it's alright. At least you did not just burst in an kick me out. New York can be full of shoppers with a purpose,"
Audrey grinned, laughing along softly. "Well, I'm not one of those Shoppers. Actually, I don't really like Shopping all that much. It just happened I was running out of suitable summer clothes." She wasn't from New York either, but adding that would make her seem like a babbling fool. She'd already said enough to make the conversation flow a little. Maybe later, they'd end up talking a bit about their past, who knows.
Introductions were just so typical. You told your name, and then the 'Nice to Meet you' blurb. The other person says their name, and so on. It got pretty boring after some time. The young woman in the Stall was mid-way in trying on her second shirt, (the first one being a big NO) and she couldn't help but smile. She seemed to have caught herself saying something she was probably not supposed to. This made her even more suspicious that "Fade" or "Jenny" was a Mutant. "Nice to meet you as well... Jenny." she said, hesitating a little on the last word. This was probably stupid to think, but to be perfectly honest, she was unsure if Henny McCullen was her real name. She'd been rather odd trying to say it. As if she hadn't used it in a long time, or as if she was making it up as she went along. Maybe her real name was Fade, but she disliked it... Audrey actually liked it, but it was true... Fade is a pretty unusual name.
Maybe Jenny was really her name, but she didn't use it often... Anyhow, she had heard of some Mutants using Codenames... She herself had made up one just for fun, though she never got to use it aloud before: Morphia.
"You from New York?"
Ah, see she knew telling Fa--Jenny where she used to live was a bad idea. Then, they couldn't be talking about it right now. "No, I'm from Louisiana. I came here for College next Fall. I've been in the city an entire week today. she paused for a second, examining her shirt in the mirror. It wasn't bad! She actually kind of liked the strapless black and silver striped top. It would surely look great with one of the shorts she'd gotten earlier. "I only arrived in the City a week ago today. How about you?" she added.
"Oh I hate shopping. But I figure that I have to buy a few clothes, I'm running really low," she mumbled barely loud enough for Audrey to hear. Shopping was a drag, primarily because she was not used to looking at the prices and actually paying money for it. She did not have an income, but she had just a bit of money saved up. Then again, being a part of the X-Men, really clothes were the only things she needed to get on her own, the house was stocked with everything else.
Morphia sort of stalled on Fade's name and the young redhead was unsure if she was perhaps mocking the way Fade stumbled over her real name. Or perhaps she just saw right through Fade (no pun intended) and figured that Jenny was not the name she preferred. No matter what, it was awkward to hear her old name out loud. Well, it was said, she'd just have to get used to being referred to as Jenny in this conversation. If only codenames were accepted by the general public...
"Louisiana? Wow. So you're from the Bijou, huh?" she asked. Fade's life had primarily been limited to the New York city borders, but on an occassion sneak on plane ride, she'd go somewhere new. Louisiana was not somewhere that she had visited though, but television had some things to say about it. Wasn't the Waterboy from Louisiana?
"Oh I've lived here my whole life," Fade shrugged. Honestly, she might have relocated if she had a car, even if she knew how to drive. Yet the city had been her home since a child and not even her memories could chase her away. It was the perfect city for a once-homeless invisible girl. "It's not Vegas or anything but it sure knows how to hustle."
Audrey smiled from inside the Stall. The two had a lot in common, so it seemed. Well, at least... They both hated shopping, and they both had to do it today. That wasn't a lot, she had to admit. "Well, if ever we decide to have a Girl's day out one of these days, I can assure you we won't be going Shopping." she joked, not entirely sure they would ever plan a Girls Day Out. To be honest, Audrey wasn't even sure the two would ever meet again after they both parted ways from this H&M store. She remembered Slate's card still in her purse right now, Jenny wasn't going to give her a card with a phone number on it, that was for sure.
She folded the shirts and placed them on one of the small white benches in the Stall, now trying the pair of tight jeans. They were a very stormy gray, with holes in the knees. She liked this kind of clothing... The style that was comfortable, the style most of her street friends usually wore. She sighed in the mirror, bitting on her lip as she debated whether it was a good idea to buy them. They looked great, but it was either these jeans or a new top.
"Oh I've lived here my whole life, It's not Vegas or anything but it sure knows how to hustle."
She snapped away from her mental arguments, "Oh really, so you know the City pretty well then." It wasn't a question, it was more or less matter-of-factly. "Anyway, she said, putting on her own clothes and putting the shirts, jeans and shoes under her arm so that she could pick up the bags with the other clothes she'd already bought with her free hands. "It's close to Lunch, are you done shopping? Maybe we could go grab something..." she drifted off, opening the door and finding Jenny still there.
Sitting on the floor, she had resulted to tapping her claws on the carpetted ground to make a little berumpumpum noise, simply to pass the time. The last Girls Day Out she had was with Deathstar, and the two ran around the city to all sorts of underground cage fights trying to help out her at the time boyfriend, Raph, and get him out of the cage fighting underworld. "Oh no, not shopping. That's for sure," she nodded. What else did she do for fun? Climbing up buildings was one of her favorite things to do, but she doubted Audrey was able to just leisurely climb up a 50 story building on her free time.
The question of how well Fade knew the city seemed to be rhetorical, but she answered just in case "Yup, like the back of my hand." Honestly, she never got that statement. Does someone really stare at the back of their hand long enough to really know every detail of it? It would make more sense to say 'like my wedding ring' or 'like my favorite shirt' or at least something that was treasured enough to be examined that closely. Certainly not the back of one's hand.
However, she was slightly shocked at the lunch invitation. This girl most certainly was not from the city, most people were not that kind, but Fade definitely appreciated it. "Right, that sounds just fine. Are you going to buy anything?" she asked. In the time it had taken Audrey to try on her clothes, Fade had convinced herself that she did not need those clothes. To tell the truth, it was because she was too lazy to carry them around town and now to lunch. Guess she needed to do another load of laundry.
"Right, that sounds just fine. Are you going to buy anything?"
It took a few seconds for Audrey to really decide. Should she buy the nice pair of jeans or one of the many cute tops she'd liked? It was something very obvious, most girls would simply buy everything. Well, Audrey wasn't like that, nor did she have the rich daddy who could pay for it all. She had practically had no money, earning only a small paycheck of 200$. She hadn't earned anything yet, since she'd gotten hired at the Bar only three days ago. Well, a woman she'd Shapeshifted in got the job, anyway. She was still only eighteen, definitely not old enough to work in a Bar.
In the end, she needed a top more then she needed a pair of pants. "Yeah, I think I am." she said, nodding toward the striped strapless one she'd fallen in love with. "How about you?" she added politely, waiting for the Redhead to get to her feet. The store's previous population had rather disapeared during the few minutes she'd been trying on clothes. Only a good dozen people remained. This was a good thing though, because the Counter was pretty much empty.
Fade looked at the clothes that Audrey had picked and complimented them with a simple "nice choice" statement. Looking back down to her's, she noticed just how boring they were compared to Audrey's. High School was just a different name for Fashion School because everyone learned fashion and what looked cute and what didn't based on all of the different styles sported at a high school, but Fade didn't attend High School, so she was not that great at it. Her shirt was just a plain white with button running down it.
"Nah, I don't think I will," she finally decided, hanging back up her shirt. Number one, she had the worst sense of fashion and number two, she was the laziest when it came to carrying stuff around the city. Even purses were too annoying to carry around, which is why she suffered the awkward appearance of her butt when she shoved her oversized wallet into her back pocket. Not at all impressive, but she was not out to impress.
Being nice though, Fade was going to wait in line with her new found random friend. "What do you feel like eating?" she asked. By not buying the clothes, she had enough money to buy lunch. Save a little here, spend a little there, it was all about money migration.
Audrey simply smiled as Jenny commented on her choice. Truthfully, this kind of style was pretty new, and she wasn't completely fond of it just yet. She was never the type to fallow fashions throughout her teenagehood, yet these days, she'd decided that since she was changing her bad street life, she might as well dress like a eighteen year-old woman should too. When she'd been living in Louisiana, you would usually be able to tell she was up to no good. In fact, she was the kind of woman seen in revealing, dark street clothes. Thinking back upon it, they were very stereotypical. Every girl seen in Gang Movies, or Hip Hop dancing videos, dressed the way she used to (She still does most of the time, actually).
"Nah, I don't think I will,"
"Okay, suit yourself." she shrugged, hanging the pair of jeans she loved, along with the other stuff back on the racks. Maybe... she could come back for the Jeans when she finally got her first paycheck. Then, the 1000$ she'd earned (legually) throughout High School would probably be spent entirely, but so what. She could keep herself from having good for a few weeks! She was used to not eating; she'd locked herself up in her room for an entire week when her parents had been killed.
A few seconds later, Audrey and her new friend from the Changing Stalls stood together in the line, which wasn't long at all. Jenny asked what she felt like eating, and Audrey had to think about it for a few seconds. She only had enough in her wallet right now for some cheap place. "Hm, there's this Cafe on the other side of the street-" she pointed out of the H&M's Window at a tiny building with tables outside. "I ate there the first evening here in New York. It's quite good, and not too expensive either." she let it slip that right now, less expensive was how she liked it.
When Fade made the announcement that she was not going to buy anything, it seemed that she had influenced Audrey's decision about her own clothes. "Oh, I didn't mean you didn't have to get anything. Are you sure you don't want that?" she asked, lifting up the jeans again. She did not want to act like she was trying to rush her away from shopping, even though the two do not enjoy shopping. Perhaps eating would be a better choice for them, but no need to rush. Fade did not have anything planned for that day. Following around Audrey, she looked out the window at the cafe. Fortunately, she had never eaten there before so it sounded like a good idea.
"Oh sure, that sounds just fine," she nodded. Eating outside of the Mansion was a rare treat, usually she just stayed in close proximity to the kitchen. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, she had something to eat. It was not a pleasure she often got to indulge in while she lived on the streets. Still, she was not at all cocky and she understood that money was not to be just thrown around now that she had just a little bit.
Audrey glanced from the clothes she'd hung on the rack to Jenny. Then, she realized she'd put her soon-to-be-new shirt with the rest of the stuff. Oh, that wouldn't have been so good. She laughed awkwardly. "Actually, yeah I did want that." she said. "I guess I didn,t pay much attention to what I was doing." After she'd paid, she glanced back at Jenny. So, the Cafe it was then.
"Okay, let's go then!" she said exitedly, making sure she wasn't about to drop any of her bags. Hm, maybe she should dump everything in one, and then walk around with only that said bag. Yeah, that was a good idea. "Just a sec," she told Jenny once they were back on the New York sidewalks, the noise of passing cars much louder. "I want to put all my stuff in one bag, so it can be a bit easier to walk around with."
"Okay, let's go." She walked along side Jenny, staring ahead of her as she tried to find a nice topic of conversation. Maybe something they both liked to do. "So, since you aren't the shopping type, what is it you do for fun?"
Waiting for her new found friend to pay for her new belongings, she poked around at a few of the earrings that were being advertised at the cash register. They were good looking and she considered getting one that was vintage and rustic looking, but her wallet pleaded her to let it pass as well and to save it for something worth while. When Audrey put all of her stuff in one bag, Fade smiled. Carrying around one bag was bad enough, she most certainly did not want to carry around any more, so she understood the small pit stop.
Keeping up with Audrey and making her way over to the cafe, Fade began to piece through her favorite things and figure out what it was that she liked to do. It was not that she did not trust Aurdrey, but there were some things that she did that the public was not aware of, like the Danger Room. "Oh I like to just hang out around town. Speak to people, I don't know, I like to...uh...exercise," she shrugged. What exactly did she do other than climb around with her powers? She could not just blurt out that she was a mutant, a lot of people were too uneasy about mutants.
Walking into the cafe, they sat down at a simple two seat table. Fade ordered a lemonade and opened the menu to figure out what she wanted. It was different to not have a choice of pretzels, Cheeze-Its and sodas, but the worst part was when it dawned on her that she did not know how to read. No wonder she hated eating out, she always ended up looking like an idiot with the menu in her hand. Hopefully, the waitress would introduce the soup of the day or something like that so she could just order without reading and without giving away her secret.
