The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The day was normal. Sarah was working in the resturant with no problem customers as of yet. That fact made her smile come easy.
Sometime in the day, the small TV above the counter was turned to a local news station. Sarah didn't know the station, but when a hush fell over the resturant, she turned to watch as well. One of the men at the counter asked for the volume to be turned up and the girl working back there complied. The video clip playing is what caught the brunette's eye. The flash of gray wings caused a gasp to release from her lips.
"I know her."
The three words made the few people around her look away from the screen, but she couldn't. Sarah was stuck watching the nice girl who had helped her get beaten by New York's Finest. The idea that those men were the best protecting the city angered her. The gargoyle girl was one of the sweetest people Sarah had met in the city.
The day had gone by in a blur. By the time her shift had ended, several of her co-workers were worried about her. When they clocked out, some how, the few women convinced Sarah to go out for coffee. When they group reached a local place, the other women forced the dazed brunette to sit.
"Alright, what was all dat today? You seemed ta just freeze when dat news lady was talkin'," one of the women, an older African American woman, asked.
"I," Sarah paused, "I know the girl that got hurt. The one from the news."
"Dat wing wearin' girl?" the same woman asked.
Another woman spoke when Sarah nodded. "Oh, Honey, that girl will be fine. If I know mutants, and I'm talking the good kind, she's been cared for. I'm more worried about the reactions of the bad ones. It's going to be rough in New York for the next couple of weeks, maybe months."
None of the women at the table realized how right the mother of two mutants was.
After getting some drinks, the women started their questions again. Sarah had expected them, but she was still dazed.
"How do ya know dat girl?" the African woman asked.
"We... had an adventure I suppose. She was looking for some help and I sorta freaked out. There were some not-so-nice guys and I got hurt. She was kind enough to help me. She was so nice," she stated in an emotionless kind of way.
The women around her knew they had to get the brunette out of her slump before she was harmed. A dazed young person was not a good thing in the city.
"Sweetie, that girl will be fine. There's more than enough people to take care of her. If she's as nice as you say, she'll have a lot of friends," one woman stated.
The African woman nodded. "I'm sure she appreciates any love sent her way. Jest don' get too worried. You gotta worry about yourself. You're human and easy pickens."
Sarah smiled that the worried women. "I'm not as helpless as I let on," she stated. "I will be careful though. However, I will step in if I think I can help. That includes at work."
"I dink we can handa dat," the dark skinned woman grinned.
After a nice outing with the other waitresses, Sarah was headed home. She still had the news report playing in her head, but it wasn't at the forefront. As she walked past a familiar store, one of her regulars exited the door. She slowed to say hello. The man was often nice to her and tipped rather well.
"Oh! Hello there Ryan. How are you today?" the brunette asked with a smile.
The man in front of her sneered. "Don't talk to me like you know me, freak," he almost growled out.
Sarah stepped back in shock as the once polite and kind man shoved her aside to walk down the sidewalk. With wide eyes, she watched Joe leave her standing. One thought raced through her mind. 'What was that about?'
Through the next week the verbal attacks on her person grew. Sarah wasn't sure what started them, but she was annoyed about it. Several of her regular customers had requested a different waitress. The staff members were forced to comply though many were upset about the outcome. The dinner was a supporter of mutants, even if it didn't announce it at every moment.
Unfortunately Sarah's boss had to give her the "dead shifts" to keep customers happy. This put a huge dent in her earnings. Without the tips she usually got from the rushes she was back to doing as many paintings as she could for extra cash.
'At this rate, I won't have money for rent. And if I do, I won't have enough for food, or bills, or something important,' she thought one day while looking at her bank statement.
