Jorge Cervantes sighed as he pulled his Chevy Impala up to the swanky apartment building that belonged to the address on a post-it he had sitting on his passenger seat. The whole time he drove here, the detective was still fuming, every time he glanced at it. He still could not believe its mode of delivery, or the messenger who had brought it. Posted onto his forehead? Just who did she think she was?
>> "Alright so you are going to spend the next couple hours gathering up everything you have on this case and then you are going to meet me at this address. Tell Armando who you are and he will let you up. Apartment 5N. Don't forget."
Just thinking about it made him so irate again. Why in the world did that woman have to be so darn bossy? All she did since the moment he had the unfortunately happenstance of meeting her was attempt to boss him around. Sure she was FBI but still, that did not give her the right to just storm into his precinct and begin shouting orders left and right. Where was the social decorum? Then again, she did come bearing some breaking news on a case that had been driving him absolutely bananas since the first day he got it. Maybe he could cut her a little slack for that.
He turned and stared at that mockingily yellow square bit of paper again and his blood ran cold. No…no cutting of slack for her; at least not until he learned what she knew about this case.
A glance into his backseat and Jorge made sure that the cardboard evidence box with all the files, eyewitness reports, coroner reports, etc., he could take out of the precinct were there. She had asked him to bring everything, so he did. God…why did she have to be so damn bossy?!
The detective continued to grumble to himself as he climbed out of his car, retrieved the box from the backseat of his car, and made his way, to the front door. Immediately he was met with the raised eyebrow of a doorman in his neatly pressed uniform. Jorge must have looked a bit of a shamble in his long, wrinkly coat, his gray slacks and his askew tie. Not that the detective really cared, but he knew from certain looks that people gave him that he was not exactly dressed for success.
Then again, he was a cop. The next time those judgmental types are being mugged or crying “murder”, who are they going to call? The world has an odd way of continuing to spin around.
“May I help you?” the man asked once Jorge arrived.
“Yeah. Here to see Castle, uh, Miriam Castle,” he said as he eyed the name written above the address.
“Hm…” the man, Antonio, if Jorge remembered correctly seemed to contemplate this as he checked his clipboard. “Ah, yes, you are expected. Just take the elevator in the back, that will get you there.”
“Thanks,” Jorge muttered as he moved past him and headed for the nearest elevator.
The whole building seemed to be just as swanky as the outside. He was starting to feel just a little out of place here, but he knew he shouldn’t. He was not here to make friends, he had a job that needed to be done and so far this was the best lead he had in a long time. If the FBI agent wanted to get involved and keep him in the loop, all the better. It was definitely better than having his whole case taken away from him. He spent too many long days staring into the pictures of the dead eyes of those victims to give up on them now. He needed to see this through to the end, no matter what.
With a resigned sigh, not knowing what he was getting into, Jorge slipped into the nearest open elevator with his box and watched the doors close with an ominous clang![/b]

Miri had tried going back to the office after getting lunch , but they had told her that she was supposed to be on vacation and since her case was on hold till she met with the detective then she was to go home and rest. It was standard procedure for an Agent to have a month long vacation after a long stint undercover. It was supposed to give them time to regain who they are before they came back to work. Miri really didn’t like the idea of having to spend a month alone in her house. Her and her wife had split over a year ago and so far she had managed not to have to think about it much, but being alone in her apartment was going to give her nothing but time to think. So when she went into the office to finish her report on the Famigliano case and heard about a potential serial case that had gotten kicked up by the chief of the MRC, she marched into the director’s office and ‘talked’ to him for over an hour about how she was the best person to be put on this case and if he didn’t put her on it he was crazy. Sadly however, once he agreed to let her on it, he made sure to say that it was the only case she could work and she had to stay home on her downtime and work from the 13 precinct with the detective that had discovered the case. All of this is what led her to meet with Jorge and was the reason why she had told him to bring his things to her home. She really hated going to that station. Of all the precincts in the entire city of New York why did this guy have to work in the 18th.
Miri threw her keys on the table next to the door and hung her coat in the closet. Walking into the large kitchen and dining area she looked around and sighed. Part of Miri wished that Jules hadn’t left her their condo and really thought she should sell it and move, but there was another part of her that didn’t want to. It was close to the FBI building and really she could never be able to afford something as nice on her salary if she had to pay monthly rent on it.
Miri walked through the bedroom into the closet and changed into a pair of spandex Capri work out pant and a sports top, before grabbing her mat, flicking on her calming music, and going into the space between the kitchen and the dinning room.
Miri started with some simple stretches and breathing to warm up and then moved on to the more complicated stuff, each movement seeming to flow into the next with minimal effort. She had just gotten herself into one of her favorite stretches when there was a knock on the door. Her hands were on the ground in a 90 degree angle with her right leg stretched forward and resting on her left arm and her left leg stretched back and into the air. Thankfully she had prepared for being in such a position when the Detective arrived.
“It’s unlocked.” She had made sure to unlock it before she had started and for an extra precaution she had her hand gun sitting next to her.

The whole way up Jorge definitely felt like he was taking down the property value of the building. Even the elevator seemed fancy to him with the mirror-like walls and the subtle music that pumped in through hidden speakers. He really was beginning to feel just a little low on the totem pole here, but the feeling was only momentarily. He had to remind himself that he was here to do his job, and that was it. The place was intimidating and the woman extremely bossy but there were several dead young women who pretty much forced him to get over all of it. He was doing this for them.
He prayed that woman had relevant information. The case depended on it.
Once the elevator doors opened, Jorge blinked as he stepped out into the hall, or elevator lobby.
“Are you kidding me?” the detective mumbled as he balanced the box of files in his hands and looked left and right. There were no other doors except for one that indicated it led to the stairs. “God, what do they pay these agents in? Solid gold bars?”
Jorge, despite his grumblings, pushed on to the only door left that had an apartment number on it. He was still reeling over the fact that he was actually doing this. The woman stuck a post-it note on his forehead, for goodness sake! But…a fresh set of eyes on the case may help…
So, with a breath to steel up his courage, Jorge held the box under one arm as he reached over and knocked loudly.
One second…two seconds…
Then he heard a slightly faint…
>> “It’s unlocked.”[/i]
Eyebrow arched, Jorge reached down and turned the doorknob. Once he stepped in, he was struck by the grand space that opened up before him in the apartment. In that second he figured about three or four of his own apartment could easily fit inside, but before he could awe anymore at the opulence, he spied a…rather odd sight.
Now, being a police detective for several, several, several years, Jorge has seen all types of horrendous accidents and their effects on the human body. He’s seen people twisted backward from car wrecks, limbs facing backwards from bar brawls, even people lying limp, snapped completely in half due to industrial accidents. But none of them, and he meant none of them, surpassed the sight he was witnessing right now.
As he walked down the foyer, he watched the woman, the same agent who had just invaded his precinct and chastised one of the more sexist officers, appear on the floor in the most awkward of positions. Balancing herself on a mat of sorts, Jorge peered as the woman seemed to support herself on her two arms, while she lifted her entire lower half and twisted to the point where she had her legs stretched out in what he would only imagine to be one of the most painful leg stretches he could ever imagine. But it did not end there. As he stepped in and stood, trying to figure out where he should look, the man witnessed as he federal agent continued to lift herself up to the point that she was practically in a handstand, her legs momentarily curled up against her stomach before further stretching…
God what I wouldn’t give for some horse shoes right about now, he thought to himself as he turned away modestly and cleared his throat.
“I take it I’m a little early? I did hear you say to 'come in', right?” he asked as he once again held the box in both hands. “Nice apartment, Castle.” he said he glanced at a framed photograph of blonde woman, maybe a sister or a best friend? “Thought for a moment the doorman was going to hand me a nickel and tell me to be on my way, when he saw my coat.” he mumbled as he looked about, trying not be nosy but really unable to look anywhere and not see something that caught his eye.
He had a feeling this was going to be a looooong evening.

Oh and you are wearing a cheap suit in the financial district right near Wall St. I am sure he is not the only one that looked at you funny.” Miri stretched her legs up so she was in a full hand stand and moved to put her elbows on the floor, placing her head to rest on top of them so she was more grounded then she had been on her hands, “You can put the files out on the table.” Miri exhaled as she bent her legs slowly so they were parallel with the ground and then moved them back up again, before she lowered them all the way back to the ground and jumped forward so her feet were between her hands on the ground and she stood there bent fully over for a minute. The last thing she did was sand and breath for a minute before moving off of the mat and into the kitchen.
Miri took a bottle of water out of the fridge and turned back to Jorge as she opened it, “Did ya bring everything?” Without even waiting for an answer Miri placed the now half gone bottle of water on the island and started making coffee, “I assume ya drink coffee.” She put the maker on an hour long delay and then went into her bedroom.
“I just need to jump in the shower for a minute and then we can get this show on the road.” Miri once again didn’t wait for a response before closing her bathroom door and starting the shower.

“Thanks for the tip,” he mumbled in reference to her comment about his suit.
A slightly offended look crossed Jorge’s face as he reached down and felt the material of his suit. Hey this was not some Target-Mart, clearance item! It easily cost him a one-hundred and fifty dollars! Then again, he had to admit that she did have a point. This was the ritzier side of New York so he was sure that all the passing citizens were used to a certain kind of dress from people who dared to walk their sidewalks. He feared what would happen if he had decided to stroll through in his Miami Dolphin sweatpants and Nautica shirt.
Hmm, that’s an idea for later, he thought to himself as he heard the agent’s last command.
He nodded as he walked over to the nearest table and set the box of evidence and files down…
>> “Did ya bring everything?[/color]
“Everything short of rock and dirt samples,” he said as he turned back around and found her already starting to set up her coffee maker.
>> “I assume ya drink coffee…I just need to jump in the shower for a minute and then we can get this show on the road.”
And like that she was gone, disappeared into her bedroom which was only followed by the sound of a bathroom door closing. So he stood there, in the middle of her very spacious kitchen, looking about, feeling completely and utterly lost. Was that woman always such a whirlwind of commands and insults? He doubted many could last long around her and quite frankly he still was struggling with the idea of keeping himself here at all. He cancelled a date with Gemma because of this woman. SO not worth it so far.
Then again, if she did have any insight in this case that was literally eating up most of his sanity, he would have to deal with it. The detective had reached the point that he was willing to accept help wherever it came from…
…even the swanky apartment in the Financial District he found himself standing in.
Speaking of which, Jorge now found himself beginning to wander. It was not that he was nosy, but he really did not know what to do here. He felt that if he stumbled and broke something, he doubted he could afford to replace it. So to avoid temptation, the man kept his hands stuffed into his coat pockets as he moved around the apartment, still in the general vicinity of the evidence box, and began to take everything in he saw. He spied the family photos, the works of art, etc. So far she seemed like the type of woman who involved family in everything…
Then he tilted his head as he looked down and saw another picture of that blonde. He was curious now about who she was…until he saw another framed photo next to it.
It was a beautiful shot, nice outdoor picture of a beautiful place that reminded him of images he'd seen of up state New York or Connecticut or something. In this picture, there was the blonde again, only this time she was in a flowing white, lacy wedding dress. He had to admit she was rather attractive, as was the woman in the pantsuit slipping a ring on her finge-
Agent Castle? he thought to himself as he tilted his head and looked closely at the picture. It was definitely a wedding picture, between the agent whose apartment he was standing in and the blonde. That would explain why her blonde's pictures were everywhere...
"Oh," was all he mumbled as he stood up straight and turned away from the picture.

Thankfully, Miri’s bathroom was actually attached to her closet. She actually had to walk through said closet to even get into the bathroom, which was damned convenient when there was a guest at the house.
Miri stood there in her underwear for a moment before grabbing a pair of Capri sweats and a tank. If she was going to have to look at papers all night she was going to want to be comfortable.

Miri heard the odd statement from the living room as she was grabbing a hair tie. She actually wondered what he had discovered that had given him a sense of understanding. As far as she knew there was nothing there that was very eye opening about her. Maybe he had noticed the prevalence of her family or her lack of sisters. Really there was only one way to find out for sure.
Miri walked out of her bedroom with the hair tie on her wrist and a towel in her hand that she was using to dry her hair, “Oh?”

The picture was definitely telling. Not that he really cared that the agent was married to a woman, only that it was an interesting bit of information. Also seemed to explain why she chastised that officer back at the precinct for checking her out…then again most women did that do that guy to begin with. But still, for some reason it made him see the tough agent in a slightly different light. Ever since he met her he had been thinking about how impossible it must be to be married to her. After all, she was bossy, commanding, slightly insulting, but in the end, she had managed to find someone.
He guessed that there was love out there for all…
>> “Oh?”[/i]
Jorge turned and noted the agent peeking out of her bedroom with a rather comfortable set of clothing on. He merely shook his head, referencing that nothing was wrong.
“Nothing,” he said in reply as he turned at attention back to her. “Just admiring your family photos.”
He turned and headed back to the table where he left the evidence, having decided that he snooped and wandered around her apartment enough for one evening. It was not nice to pry after all. Already the smells of freshly brewed coffee were beginning to waft in through the air and he started to feel slightly revitalized. He never got to answer her question about whether or not he drank coffee. There was doubt as to whether she would have accept “no” had he had said it. Thankfully the man did love his coffee and he could definitely go for a cup now.
His gaze returned to the table, and the box which held all the information from his case. Jorge felt that he needed this, he needed this opportunity to help these young women. Castle’s fresh set of eyes had to open up some doors. So far she proved to be useful and he hoped that that streak continued.
“You ready to get started?” he asked innocently enough, not with any command, when she finally returned.

Miri noticed as Jorge looked away from her personal items and to the box on the table obviously preparing to change the subject. If Miri had learned one thing from her years as an undercover agent, it was how to read people.
Miri stood for a second trying to figure out which of the pictures had made him say oh. Her eyes looked from frame to frame until they fell upon her wedding picture and an unintentional sadness fell over her eyes. She had loved that woman once, but somewhere along the way they had fallen out of it. To think it had been over a year since the last strands that were holding them together finally snapped.

Miri was pulled out of her thoughts by the forgotten man on the other side of the room from her, “Oh.. Yeah,” she started making her way over to the coffee pot, “Why don’t you pull out what you have and I will pour us both a cup of coffee. How do you take it?”

The detective could see that there was indeed a change in the FBI agent’s demeanor. He did not know what it pertained to, but he was not going to pry. Maybe she simply did not like a lowly police detective wandering around her apartment freely, eyeballing whatever photos he came across. Then again maybe he was just jumping to conclusions. It was not like he picked up and broke anything after all.
With a sigh began to pick through the box of evidence. Mainly it consisted of victim files, photographs, even a couple of statements from the crime scene. There really was not much to go on and everything that he had he himself had gone over more times than he liked to count.
Then again, maybe it would be good to have a fresh set of eyes on these scenes. After all, if it was not for her, there was no way he would have ever seen the pattern that she found with the photographs. She knew more than she was letting on, but he hoped that this little meeting of theirs would provide some sort of confidence, a trust that would allow him in.
Setting up into organized piles everything from the box, Jorge wandered back towards the kitchen, not really accustomed to being waited on in someone else’s home.
“Need any help?” he asked earnestly. He may not have appreciated her attitude back at the precinct, but that did not mean he could not be nice now…
