The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"The New York City Aquarium. How strange is this?" Was the first thought that Luke had as he climbed out of his cab in new clothes and even a brand new body. The sun was bright on his eyes, even through the sunglasses, and he actually shaded his vision slightly as he stood at the curb just staring at the posters and the signage all around him. One poster captivated him more than any of the others and ask he walked toward it to take a closer look, it was all he could do to keep his mouth from dropping open in shock.
The post of a mermaid could only be one person and for the first time in his life, Luke was seeing what Raina really looked like. "She's so beautiful." He murmured, completely captivated by the image before him. Her red hair seemed to shine vibrantly against her pale skin and the green/teal of her tail almost matched the color of her eyes. Apparently that had been edited because Luke was pretty sure he remember from conversation that she had gray eyes, but on the picture her green eyes were definitely captivating.
"You're right bub, she is beautiful. To bad there's no mermaid show today." Another man spoke up from off to Luke's right. Glancing over at him Luke felt anger suddenly rise up at the lustful expression on the other man's face. Deciding it was best to just ignore him, Luke turned and walked toward main gate. After buying a ticket to enter he went to the service desk and very politely asked if there was any way he could meet Dr. Grey. "I'm a friend of Raina's and she told me to stop by."
It was an out and out lie but hopefully Dr. Grey would forgive him for that deception once he knew the real problem. Of course, that forgiveness depended on his being and unfortunately, "Dr. Grey is off for the day. Some sort of lecture he wanted to take in at the college or something like that."
And with those words all of Luke's carefully laid plans came crashing down. There would be no quick fix from a telepath making everything right. As far as Luke knew, there wasn't even a telepath at the mansion but he'd still have to go tell them, wouldn't he? They needed to know after all that if they tried to call him on his X-Communicator they wouldn't get him. But wait... if he was in this body, was it possible that Juka was in his body?
"Oh hell," Luke breathed as the horrible idea suddenly struck home. Turning away from the help table he walked over to the closest window and just stared outside, "What kind of messed up life could I end up going back to if I even can go back?"

Split shifts at the library sucked. Sucked, sucked, sucked. Not only did they pretty much ruin an entire day because of the shift both in the morning and the afternoon, but they always left Kealey with a dilemma. The whole point of a split, was that there were two shifts in a single day, but that meant time between the two. Sometimes, she’d go back to the apartment to relax or eat, but recently she’d been spending all of her free time deep in the library. There were private collections, and special reading rooms far below the ground level of the monolithic building. It was secluded there, and to Kealey that meant quiet of the kind she usually only felt around Jacen.
It also meant he wasn’t around to be distracting, or God forbid, see what she was working on. Sometimes it felt like this whole fashion school idea was folly, and the portfolio went better sometimes than others. The deadline was approaching though, and Kealey was definitely feeling the pressure. The walls of the little room in the library felt like they were closing in, she needed to get out. A few minutes of paper gathering later, and the blond was walking down the stairs outside the library, kitten heels clacking on the concrete.
It was bright and sunny outside and for a few moments, Kealey considered just finding somewhere to sit and bask in the sunlight. There were a lot of people outside though, and the emotions weren’t doing anything for her nerves. Sitting idle wasn’t going to help, she needed something to do, so she walked.
As she walked, Kealey looked, until her eyes fell on a poster she’d seen several times in passing, but had never stopped to look at more thoroughly. It was a large picture of a mermaid. Kealey smiled, what a cool job that would be, performing in a mermaid show. She glanced at the portfolio clutched under her arm, then walked forward, buying a ticket and making her way into the aquarium.
This was somewhere that Kealey had never been, and while there were small crowds, it really wasn’t too bad. The lights were low and the reflection off the water gave the whole place a kind of ambience that you didn’t see very often. All and all, it was really gorgeous….even before the fish. The blues and the greens all melded together, and Kealey’s eyes widened as she stood in front of a tank full of jellyfish.
She didn’t want to leave, and she had more than plenty of time, but she needed somewhere to sketch. Around she walked, looking for the perfect spot…then she saw it. There was a little table, right by a gorgeous window. The blond quickly made her way to it and sat down, pulling out her sketch pad and pencils , then it was to work. For a while, Kealey was completely absorbed, a small smile appearing on her face for the first time since she’d gotten to work on her portfolio. All and all it was going so well. Until she felt something.
Up Kealey looked at the wave of emotion, of course she’d been feeling other emotions, but this was different. This person was in a seriously bad way. There was slight panic, confusion, despair, and more than that, a general sense of just being way too overwhelmed. It was too much. Another dilemma for the day. Kealey looked around for the source of the feelings and her eyes fell on a man looking out the window in simple jeans and a tshirt. He needed help, and Kealey could help…at least for the time being.
Staring intently at the man, Kealey mentally grabbed onto first the despair, and then the panic, slowly and gently pushing them away. There was nothing she could do for the confusion…because sometimes a person just needed to be confused. She wanted to do more, though. Once the change of emotion had had enough time to settle on the man, Kealey rose and walked slowly to him, ”I’m sorry…” she said softly, ”I couldn’t help but see how…lost you looked staring out this window. Are you alright?

He had no clue what to try next. Without the good Doctor Grey around, there was really no way to prove that he was really who he said he was. There was noone that he could even ask about whether it would be possible to get switched back to normal. Would he be stuck like this for the rest of his life? Would he have to make new friends or regains the friends that knew him in his other body? How would Raina take it? Could their love really survive a blow like this? There were so many questions racing through his mind and he could actually feel the panic continueing to build and grow into what had to be some sort of panic attack. His heart was racing and he could almost feel the sweat that was pushing out toward his brow.
It didn't happen suddenly, but slowly and methodically the emotion slowly began to dissipate. He was still confused over the whole situation that he was in but the panic, despair, and everything was still going away. It was still there, and he could feel it in the back of his mind, but it was no longer at the forefront. It was manageable and controllable and mentally Luke breathed a sigh of relief. He had always prided himself on being able to maintain some sort of control and it looked like some of that training had come with his mind to this new body.
Suddenly a soft voice spoke up from his left and Luke turned to look at the advancing woman. Suddenly he felt like a teenager. He had romanced various women over the years and his sonar and sense of touch had told him how beautiful they must be, but none of that compared to the color and vibrancy that suddenly stood before him. While not having the striking red hair that immediately drew the eye to Raina, the woman had beautiful blond hair that curled and frame her face prettily. Her lips were full and their slight curve combined with the expression in her brilliant blue eyes made it clear that she was really concerned.
"I... don't know." He said in the slightest feminine voice that he detested so much. Turning his gaze back out the window Luke felt his shoulder slump ever so slightly. "It's been a crazy day. Craziest I've ever experienced."
And it was slowly getting even crazier. Without the wayward emotions to completely shatter his self-awareness, Luke was beginning to realize that he could feel something within himself. Something that in one way that was completely new and yet all to familiar. Allowing his head to drop in something of a defeated gesture he looked down at his hand. Why was there the nagging feeling that he had the ability to escape from all of this. The ability to enter a place of perfect peace. Shaking his head to clear away the strange thoughts, Luke looked back up and focused his brown eyes on Kealey's striking blue ones.
"Have you ever had a crisis of identity? Not really knowing who you are or what you're meant to do?"

The man turned and looked at her and Kealey felt her cheeks redden slightly. She was somewhat used to this reaction from men, but that didn’t make it any easier to deal with. There were so many other layers of emotion with this man, though, that it was only a passing thought. He was still confused, and even though she’d made them go away to some degree, the despair and the panic were still there. Usually when she punted them from the front of someone’s mind they soon after disappeared completely. That wasn’t the case here, they were still prevalent. Kealey’s brows drew together and she frowned, something was seriously wrong here.
The man spoke, and Kealey was slightly surprised by the light timbre and tone of his voice. It sounded almost feminine. The man was so confused though, so upset, that Kealey couldn’t help but feel her heart go out to him. He was having a crazy day…the craziest day ever…and it made him feel like this?
”Everyone has crazy days.” Kealey said softly, brows still furrowed slightly as she tried to puzzle out exactly what it was she needed to say to help this situation. Nothing came to mind, then the man spoke again.
His words sunk in and Kealey laughed, surprising herself with how bitter it sounded, ”Only practically every day of my life.” she said, breaking the eye contact and shaking her head. ”Until recently…I didn’t know up from down most of the time.”
It seemed she had a unique perspective on this man’s problem…maybe this was something she was supposed to do. ”I grabbed a table a little earlier, do you want to talk about it?”
He probably wouldn’t …people didn’t tend to talk to strangers about things that made them feel the way this man had been feeling. The despair and panic still hadn’t faded. ”I’m Kealey…by the way…Kealey Quinn.”

She was being so understanding and it just made Luke want to trust her or at least talk to her but a part of him was still holding back. The only two people he had really opened up to in the past was Raina and Sara but something told him that Kealey would be understanding. "No... I can't just trust a stranger." He lectured to himself, about to shake off Kealey's offer of a table when suddenly she offered her name.
"Luke, Luke Ja..." He began absently as he stared out the window before his voice trailed off. "I mean... Juka Miami. Pleasure."
He could feel the flush rising in his cheeks and then his shoulders slumped even a little bit more. "Maybe I should take you up on that offer, but you're not going to believe a word I say."
A few moments later, after Luke had bought himself a soda as well as whatever it was that Kealey might like, he found himself sitting at a table in the aquarium directly across from the pretty blond. It was an extremely strange experience since all around him were posters reminding him of his girlfriend and her beauty. Each one seemed to point an accusing finger at him asking why he would confide in some other woman instead of the love of his life?
"She's my girlfriend." He said without preamble with his eyes fixed on one of the posters. "She's given me swimming lessons, we've got out to lunch and dinner, been to canada, and even went to Paris for a weekend trip one time. But the sad part is she can't even recognize me now."
It was a strange story that probably sounded just as strange in Luke's ears as it had to sound to Kealey. She was probably already classifying him as some sort of psycho stalker and fantasy man. In fact, if she wasn't already looking for the nearest security personnel he'd be surprised.
"My name is Luke. This body's name is Juka Miami. Last night I went to sleep in my own body and then this morning I woke up in this one."
Lifting his hands, Luke massaged at his temples as he closed his eyes against the bright light. Even though this body happened to be used to seeing color like this, his mind sure wasn't. How could he even begin to explain what sort of shock and overload this was for his system?
"Crazy... I've got psycho. That's how it sounds, isn't it."

A blond brow raised when the man she’d met gave first one name, than another. He wasn’t lying, Kealey could tell that much, but he was still so confused, and so sad. Kealey’s brows furrowed, and she looked at Juka closely, searchingly, ”Nice to meet you Juka.” she said softly, looking away and wondering again, what was going on.
Juka…for some reason Kealey had trouble thinking of him as that…was embarrassed by this mistake, Kealey could feel it. She was even more curious now, what had the mistake been? She was about to repeat her offer when…Juka accepted the offer. Kealey simply nodded and they made their way back to the table. As she sat, Kealey studied the man across from her more. What could he possibly have to say that she wouldn’t believe a word of? Juka obviously didn’t know who he was talking to…someone with this much emotion behind what he was saying had to be speaking the truth.
Unprompted, Juka started talking about his girlfriend, and Kealey followed his gaze to one of the mermaid posters. ”Really?” she said, looking at the woman she’d been envious of outside the building. Kealey could feel it…he did care for the woman… That wasn’t explaining anything, though. Juka kept talking, though, and the compliment that Kealey had been about to make, died on her lips. She wouldn’t even recognize him?
Kealey didn’t have to ask why…Juka spoke again and the other name came up. Kealey stared at…Luke as he spoke, stared intently. This was hard to believe. He was telling the truth, though…Kealey would have sworn it on a bible. Words were full of lies…so were actions…so were a million other things…but emotions could lie.
The despair, the frustration, the confusion, the panic…it all made sense when put into context. The man wasn’t crazy either…Kealey had shared emotions with crazy people before…heck…she’d been crazy before. There was too much order in this mind, it was simply panicked.
Kealey shook her head, realizing that she’d been sitting in silence, completely focused on the emotions. ”No…I don’t think you’re crazy…I’ve been there…” Kealey said softly, ”And nobody who feels the way you do could be lying.”
She sat back, looking down at the table to realize her sketch book was laying open for the world to see. Reaching out she snapped it shut, and continued to study the man in front of her, ”It could be a mutant power…had you ever met this….Juka before? Would he have reason to want to be you?”

There was no way he could sound any crazier unless he was babbling on about little green men and body snatchers. "But I am talking about body snatchers... great." Luke realized in embarassment. Yep, there was no doubt about it. Kealey obviously on had two choices. One was to get up and walk away without ever looking back and the other was to call over security. Lifting his drink to take a sip, Luke came extremly close to spitting it back out in shock when Kealey said that she believed him.
"You believe me?" He asked in a slightly squeeky voice after managing to swallow down his carbonated beverage. How in the world had he found a woman that would actually believe him? Was she a psychic too or something? Had he somehow stumbled across the exact sort of person he was looking for without even realizing it? Just the fact that she believed him was enough to begin building up a small bit of hope. Maybe there was a chance he could get through this.
Clearing his throat to try and get this bodies voice back to being a little bit normal sounding, Luke did his best to focus on the questions that Kealey was tossing his way. "I've never met or heard about a person named Juka but I have no way of telling you whether I've ever seen them before. My real body is blind so there are very few people I could even recognize except by their voices."
Leaning back in his chair, Luke fell silent for a moment. The last question was far more difficult to answer. Luke Jacobs was head of a multi-million dollar international company and had publicly announced to the world he was a mutant. Plenty of people had reason to become Luke whether it was to simply enjoy what they saw as the good life or instead to destroy what Luke had.
"I don't know Juka would personally have a reason to be me but there are enough other ones out there. Some don't like me because I have a mutant girlfriend and others don't like me because I'm a mutant myself. There's really no way I can say for sure."

Luke was stunned that she believed him, and Kealey couldn’t help but laugh a little bit. She knew it wasn’t necessarily a situation she should be laughing in, but Kealey couldn’t help it. ”Yes. I believe you. I wouldn’t run around telling everyone that, though. I’ve got a bit of a unique perspective on things, someone else would probably think you were completely nuts.”
There it was. Hope. Kealey smiled a little bit more, the despair and panic were fading on their own account now and Kealey eased up on her pressure. The natural way was always better in emotional situations. Early on, she’d seen that. The effects of her powers didn’t last forever and once they wore off, sometimes people felt worse. It seemed like Luke was doing better though.
Her belief was obviously enough to earn at least a little trust from Luke, and he set about answering her questions in a pretty concise way. This was a situation just full of surprises…apparently Luke’s original body was blind too. Kealey blinked a few times and shook her head, ”Yeah…don’t tell anyone else.” she said, simply when he finished explaining.
The worst part of the whole thing is that Luke didn’t seem to know any connection he had to the man whose body he was in. This was strange beyond belief, something else occurred to Kealey, ”Have you tried calling your own place?” she asked, ”Maybe if you’re in his body, he’s in yours. At least if you figured that out you could get some stories straight so people don’t think you’re nuts until you get this straightened out.”
It was mind boggling, how this sort of thing could happen. Luke said he was a mutant, and that he was blind, but had woken up in this body. ”It must have been one big shock…waking up this morning.” she said, looking around the acquariuim, ”Is it all it’s cracked up to be?

The fire of hope, though beginning weakly has a strength that can overcome most anything. The strength of confusion, desparation, and fear was slowly dwindeling as the flickering flame of hope slowly grew.
"Uh... no. I didn't even think about calling my own place. I should have thought of that first, huh." Luke said, a touch of embarassment entering his voice as he realized that he hadn't done something that really should have been so obvious. Probably it had something to do with the fact that he hadn't noticed a cell phone or regular phone in the apartment. There probably was one hidden somewhere in the place but he just hadn't noticed it.
"And it was a shock waking up this morning but... what do you mean it's not all it's cracked up to be? Seeing?" Luke asked with a slightly raised eyebrow. Turning away from the blond, Luke scanned the room, just taking it in for a moment. Seeing through someone else's eyes was deffinately scary and unnerving but at the same time it was something magical. For a man that had never had the opportunity to see colors and shapes the way everyone else did it was a special opportunity.
"I don't know. I'm not going to say that being able to see is worth all that I'md ealing with but at the same time... see, I was born blind. I've never seen color like this. I couldn't even imagine what it was like and now I actually have a chance to see just like everyone else." Turning back around his eyes focused on Kealey once more. "People have tried to describe things to me... Raina, my girl-friend, has tried to explain what her red hair looked liked or what the blue of the ocean is but now I can actually understand what she's talking about. Just like with your blond hair, I've heard people describe it but this is the first time I get to see it myself. Everything's just so beautiful and, and I wonder how many people take it all for granted."
It was a rambling statement but Luke didn't know any other way to say it or describe it. Shrugging somewhat embarassed, Juka's face gave a small smile. "Uh... you wouldn't have a cell phone I could borrow, would you?"

Kealey actually breathed a sigh of relief. All the dark feelings were hard to ignore after a while. Thankfully, Luke’s were still receding. For probably the millionth time, Kealey thanked God for hope. It was kind of like a light in the dark, or sudden warmth in the cold. The blond was used to dealing with the dark feelings, but it was so much more fulfilling when they went away. Especially when she felt like she had helped.
Luke hadn’t thought of calling his own place and he seemed slightly distressed with that fact. Kealey shook her head, ”Nobody could blame you for not thinking about it. Goodness, I don’t know what I’d do if I woke up in a body other than this one.” The implications were endless, forgetting something like that didn’t seem outlandish to Kealey, not at all.
Luke explained, and from the sounds of it, seeing really was everything it was cracked up to be. It wasn’t something that Kealey had ever taken for granted, but it was something that she’d never thought enough about to be consciously grateful. Luke had apparently been blind his whole life, and was seeing for the first time. Kealey could feel the…awe?...as he looked around the aquarium. In return Kealey echoed the feelings a little and listened, engrossed, as Luke continued to talk.
The man across from her spoke about what it was like to see, and Kealey’s heart went out to him even more. It was impossible to imagine, being able to see after never having been able to before. Kealey had so many questions…but she held herself back. The poor man was going through enough without an overeager blond throwing strange questions his direction. Luke pointed out how beautiful everything was, and Kealey looked around the aquarium with slightly different eyes. She’d noticed the colors in the tanks, but there really was a lot of other beauty around the building. The angles in the construction, the patterns in the tile, Kealey was nearly amazed at how much she’d been missing.
”It’s funny how you take things for granted.” she commented, then smiled slightly across the table, ”And at least when this is all over, you’ll be able to look back and remember the good that came of the situation. One of those…every cloud has a silver lining type of things, you know?”
Luke asked if she had a cell phone and Kealey winced slightly, shaking her head, ”I grew up in rural Ireland and actually just moved here about a year ago. I’m still having trouble adjusting to the technology dependence. I’m sorry I’m not more help.” Kealey really did feel bad. A cell phone just wasn’t something she’d thought about getting a hold of, especially since the fire. Spending money on other things had just seemed more important. A thought occurred to the blond, though, and she smiled across the table, ”I do however have some change…and there’s bound to be a pay phone around here somewhere.” Gathering up her pencils and sketch book, Kealey studied the man across the table, ”Ready?”

Memories... if he changed back that's all this would. Distance memories that gave him a fleeting taste of how the rest of the world lived. There would be no gazing into Raina's eyes and telling her how beautiful she was, there would be no more appreciation of sunrises or sunsets, and flowers would have their scent but not their vibrant color. All of that would have been bearable except for the thought that he couldn't return Raina's gaze eye to eye. It was hard to accept and it left a slightly bittersweet taste in his mouth but Luke knew that it was right. He had been born blind for a reason and this change was just a fluke. He should enjoy it while it lasted but he needed to be willing to return to life as usual when it ended.
"Silver lining... now I finally can appreciate the meaning." He replied quietly offering the best smile he could, "And it would be great if I could borrow some change. Maybe I can catch my doppleganger before he goes crazy from being blind."
A short time later Luke found himself standing in front of a pay phone. After depositing in the right currency he dialed the number and held the receiver to his ear. The ringing went on endlessly without answer and so finally Luke just pressed the coin return switch.
"He must be gone already. What do I do now?" Luke asked as he turned back around and offered the change back to Kealey. Perhaps by some miracle this woman that had done so much for him already would know the next step to take. Maybe she could continue to be his saving angel until he finally returned to his own body.

Wistful, sad, reluctant, and finally resigned. Kealey frowned as she stared across the table at Luke as the man went quiet for a moment. He’d gone through all those emotions in that brief amount of time. It had been right after she’d mentioned how he’d be able to remember this after he went back to his body that was blind. ”I didn’t mean to make you feel that way…” she said, but smiled as Luke commented that he could really understand the meaning behind a silver lining.
It was nearly a tragic situation, Kealey had to admit, but she nodded as Luke said he’d love to use the change. Kealey quickly pulled out her change purse and dug around, pulling out a handful of coins and nodding her head as Luke said that maybe he could catch the man in his body before he left the house. Kealey wondered if the other person, Juka, had tried the same thing.
They found a phone and Kealey watched as Luke dialed, shifting her weight from foot to foot in a weird little bouncy dance as his anticipation spilled over, then sighed in shared disappointment when nobody answered. Realizing just how caught up she’d gotten in Luke’s emotions, Kealey smiled sheepishly.
”You shared your secret with me…it’s only fair to tell you that I’m unintentionally eavesdropping on your emotions.” Luke was still confused, and slightly disappointed and Kealey tried to push the emotions away so that she could think. A thought occurred to her and she frowned slightly, trying to figure out how to phrase what she was trying to say without coming across unnecessarily harsh.
”Well…whoever this…Juka is…probably isn’t going to be used to being blind. Maybe he couldn’t find the phone? And if he managed to get out…he probably couldn’t get very far without help…right? Maybe if you head towards your place, you can find him.” Kealey checked her watch, frowning slightly then looking back up at Luke, ”I’ve got a couple of hours before I have to get back to work. I could help you look, if you wanted.”
It was a genuine offer, and truth be told, Kealey was kind of eager to help. Who was this man, and how had he ended up in someone else’s body? Maybe helping him out would bring answers. Kealey didn’t know, but she knew that this was a far more interesting way to spend her break than drawing.

Eavesdropping on his emotions? If she could do that, then it meant she must be a mutant like he was... or at least, like his actual body was. While not quite as good as a telepath, her being able to sense emotions was definitely helping the situation. "Thank you... again. I think your 'eavesdropping' might actually be helping." Luke offered with a small smile.
As Kealey spoke up once more, she again showed her wisdom. Simple things that Luke should have thought of from the very beginning had been eluding him. Of course he should go back to his house! How in the world could someone that's new to blindness ever be expected to get out of his bedroom much less his apartment?
"If you have the time, I'd appreciate the company. I guess you're kind of helping me stay grounded right now." Luke admitted, the smile settling a little more firmly in his expression. The feeling of hope was growing stronger and while the confusion and even fear still remained at the edges of his mind, it was far easier to focus on the positive side of things with Kealey nearby. She was just a good person and maybe that was all he really needed right now. A good person that could help him deal with whatever came along.
"I'll be more than happy to give you cab fare to get back to your job when it's time. I, uh, live comfortably."
Well, that was true when it came to Luke's original body at least. He had been able to access a small portion of the funds while in this Juka body but that couldn't last. He had to get back into his own body if he wanted to continue his relationship with Raina or even continue his work in the family business.
"But what if I'm like this forever? Will I have to start over? Start over with work and with relationships?"
On the one hand it was a scary thought but at the same time a part of him was somewhat intrigued. Had fate stepped in and given him a second chance at life? Another opportunity to see what he could make of himself? To see what kind of love and happiness he could discover? It was something he would certainly have to think about over the next few days or weeks.

Luke confirmed that Kealey was helping, and it was difficult for her not to point out that she’d stopped using her powers some time ago. Sometimes the power of positive thinking outweighed negative thoughts to a degree that it was almost a healing power all of its own, so instead, she smiled and nodded her head. ”And you’re helping me as well. Not long ago, I was cursing my abilities for their very existence. I suppose it’s the way of things, you start taking something for granted and someone comes along to show you that you should be grateful for what you have.” Hope really was a beautiful thing and Kealey continued to bask in it a little, it was nice to not worry about the portfolio and simply help.
At her suggestion that they simply check the apartment, excitement actually rushed through Luke. It made sense that it did, had Kealey been in his situation, any lifeline would have felt like a life boat in a churning ocean…and he still wanted her help. Kealey blushed slightly at the praise when Luke pointed out that she was keeping him grounded. The blond shook her head, ”I’m just pointing out things that someone in your situation could easily overlook. I’d be more than happy to help, though.”
Luke offered cab fare back to work after Kealey helped him check the area near where he lived and she shrugged her shoulders , ”Really, it’s alright. Who wouldn’t help a person when they saw an opportunity? I’m just glad that I was around to see how lost you were by that window. Now, do we take the bus from here or a cab?
It was strange to Kealey, how she had a tendency to meet people and very quickly become involved in their lives. As she and Luke made their way out of the acquarium, Kealey couldn't help but squint her eyes at the torrent of emotion the midday transit crowd provided as soon as they moved into the crowded sidewalks. This was going to be more difficult than she'd originally thought, but a promise was a promise. Kealey stopped and turned to look at Luke, "Excuse me for asking this...but do you know where you live by sight?" she asked, somewhat awkwardly, sighing impatiently at the groups of people bustling around the street, "And you said you live comfortably, what do you do that is so lucrative?" Maybe more questions while they were in route would make this easier. Kealey didn't know, but she sure hoped so.

"I think you'd actually be surprised how few people would reach out to help someone else." Luke replied quietly as he and Kealey turned to begin making their way toward the exit, "A lot of people prefer to mind their own business so that they can't get into any trouble."
It was a sad commentary on human existance but a part of Luke understood why someone would feel that way. With so many killers, stalkers, rapists, and other violent individuals, both human and mutant, on the loose, it made sense that people would want to keep from getting involved. After all, every time they reached out to someone they might actually be reaching out to someone that would manipulate them into a dangerous situation.
"We'll take a cab from here." Luke added as they stepped outside. Walking over to the curb, he held up his hand and after a few minutes he managed to hail down one of the drivers. "Unfortunately I don't know it by sight but I think the driver should know where we're going."
Turning his attention toward the driver, Luke's gaze met his in the rear view mirror. "520 West 43Rd Street... the New Gotham apartments." Sitting back into the cushions again as the cab pulled away, Luke turned his attention back to the young woman beside him. He appreciated her help more than she could ever realize but he was also curious about her. How could she be so open and innocent living in a city like New York?
"Lucrative? Well... I happen to be part owner of the Jacobs & Jacobs security company. It's a family business that I actually took over a few months ago. But what about you? How long have you been in New York City? I can tell by your accent you're not native. If I had to guess I'd lean toward Ireland... and probably Northern Ireland if I'm hearing the brogue correctly."
