Drago grumbled to himself as he set his cane aside and stared down the dark green enemy in front of him. Back in Romania, he never would have faced something like this without at least a bit of help, and his new limp certainly made things more difficult. But he knew that he could do it, and so as he sized up his battle plan, he once again consulted the crude sketch he had made two days ago. There were no labels, as Drago couldn't read, but he remembered what each portion of the drawing was.
Mustering his courage, Dragomir pulled himself on top of a semi-large cardboard box next to the dumpster, and then rolled over the edge of the dumpster and into the trash contained within. That was the fourth dumpster Drago would hit that day, and the last. While he had found several things he needed, the goal of that day had not been found. Digging deeper, Dragomir spotted a metallic gleam at the bottom of the trash. Grabbing it and hoping for the best, he pulled out....
A can of beans. "Crap! Well, it figures," he muttered, "not like people throw away car motors often..." Little did Drago know that pretty much all car parts went to different places than the rest of the trash. It was then, as he was scrambling out of the trash can to the bag and cane he had lain next to it, that he noticed there was someone watching.
“Oh for the love of-” Alexandra stopped the car unhappily, letting her words trail into the air while mentally she practiced her cursing skills.
She was lost. Lost. The molecule manipulator mumbled and muttered some more, unhappiness written on her face. Blue eyes checked the surroundings with hope. Such a feeling proved to be futile. There was nothing there that could even mildly resemble the entrance of a private detective’s office. The disgruntled expression on her face shifted to a more resigned one while she admitted her defeat. Fine. She’d ask for help.
Eyes moved on to the sole person that was in the vicinity. He was just picking a can of beans out of the trash. Great. Sighing, Alexandra stepped out of the car, walking the small distance between her and the man she was planning to ask for directions.
"Crap! Well, it figures, not like people throw away car motors often...
A curious blink. This one was speaking Romanian. Stepping even closer, she stopped behind the man. When she spoke, she spoke in Romanian as well. “You’re not going to find car motors in a dumpster, you know.” Shifting her weight on one leg – God, these heels are killing me – Alexandra let one hand rest on her hip while the other hung at her side.
Dragomir sighed as he looked up to see a rather fetching lady in a business outfit step out of a car and look around. When she spotted Drago she walked the short distance between them, her high heels clacking on the ground. It occurred to Drago that he probably looked like some kind of homeless person. Well, technically he didn't have a home, just a room at the Sanctuary, and he didn't have much money... But he wasn't really homeless, at least not in the way people thought of it.
“You’re not going to find car motors in a dumpster, you know.”
Drago was very surprised when the woman responded to his Romanian mutterings, and in Romanian no less. It seemed more than a coincidence that someone speaking Drago's native language would stop by out of the blue, and so he began to construct a golem out of trash nearby that had fallen out in his searching for parts. It never hurt to be prepared. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they government isn't trying to kill your entire family.
"Really? Where would I find them, then?" Drago would have offered his hand, but didn't think the woman would appreciate it covered in filth. "I am Dragomir, and you are?"
Blue eyes turned toward the creature that rose from the pile of garbage nearby, bearing a ‘not surprised, yet curious’ look in them. A Romanian and a mutant. My, my. She didn’t run into those every day. Alexandra shifted her eyes back to the man, a corner of her lip rising slightly to form a smile. “That would be the junk yard.” She replied to his question before letting her eyes wander back to the creature and let them linger there for a few seconds.
“And you’re a mutant.” She paused for a brief moment while her eyes traveled back to Dragomir. “Too.” She didn’t present him a demonstration of her abilities. Instead, her smile broadened slightly. “I am Alexandra.” She decided not to give him her last name – after all, maybe he wouldn’t be very thrilled to speak with the daughter of a dead senator that not long ago had based his political campaign on the imprisoning of mutants. “And I also come in peace.” She gestured toward the golem. “If I wanted you harmed I might as well have done my move until now instead of talking to you.” Of course, she didn’t blame him for being suspicious either. Mutants didn’t exactly have a peaceful existence in the world. She knew that very well.
"Ah," Drago said, "I will have to look that up, thank you." Drago then placed his palm upon the construct he had created, and willed it to life with a bit of his own energy. The golem stood about two feet tall, and was one of his more crude creations, created in the spur of the moment, just in case. It had practically no armor, just two legs, two arms, and an old thrown out foam dart launcher mounted where it's head should have been. Drago pulled back the stock to prime the launcher to be ready to go: the golem couldn't reach it with it's stubby little arms, and no fingers anyways. It wasn't particularly dangerous, or even annoying, but Drago hoped it would be distracting enough to allow for a quick limp-away.
Hey, even old men were allowed to dream, alright?
“And you’re a mutant. Too. I am Alexandra.” The woman introduced herself, and Drago noted the pause between her words, and sighed on the inside. Some people had such a flair for the dramatic.
“And I also come in peace. If I wanted you harmed I might as well have done my move until now instead of talking to you.”
Drago smiled, though he did not get any closer, and said "Well then you will not be offended, I hope, if I don't take you at face value. If you're a fellow mutant, you know what I mean. You speak Romanian, and if you've been to Romania any time in the last ten or twelve years or so, you will understand my caution." Drago patted his golem on the head, then continued. "Still, it is nice to meet you, Alexandra. One of my grandchildren has that name." Drago's smile vanished. "Had." he whispered, possibly too soft to be heard by the woman.
(OOC: Circe it's up to you whether or not she hears Drago. I don't mind either way.)
No, she didn’t feel offended. Actually, she could understand the man perfectly. Guilt washed over her once again as she reminded herself that a good part of the fault was hers. Alexandra’s face softened considerably. The whisper, she heard it. But somehow it felt wrong to even consider talking about it there and then. An inaudible sigh left her lips. “I do understand what you are talking about. And I also understand if you will refuse the offer I’m about to make but if you wish to talk I think that doing it over a cup of coffee or something will be better than here.”
Alexandra looked around in search of something that could resemble a coffee shop. Of course her eyes didn’t pick up anything. The street they were on had hardly anything on it. “Of course, if you happen to know where a coffee shop or something alike is would be great. Cause I don’t know the area.” Mentally, she sighed again. Who was she lying to? “Actually, I think I’m lost. The GPS led me here but this clearly isn’t what I’ve been looking for.” Her eyes shifted back to Dragomir, wondering when she’d become such a softie, caring about what happened to others so much. She was pretty sure that if they met a year ago she wouldn’t have bothered to socialize with anyone who didn’t serve a clear purpose in her life.
The guilt kept prodding at the back of her mind and she realized it. A little hypocrite she was. She didn’t care for others. She just wanted to make herself feel better. Try to wash the guilt away and probably nothing more. She knew that she should have turned away, leave and dwell in the guilt but she couldn’t move her feet away. She wanted to be rid of the guilt. She wanted it badly cause she felt that its weight was starting to crush her.
Drago saw the woman's face change slightly at his comment, though he had no real idea what it could mean. He hoped it was a good thing, but he had never been good at reading people. Drago began to relax a bit, coming to be a bit more comfortable about this stranger, enough that he leaned his cane against the wall of the alley and had the golem swing the bag over one of it's blocky shoulders. Drago didn't really know how the golems without eyes managed to see, but they always seemed to have at least a small amount of awareness of their surroundings, whether not they had any sensory equipment on them.
“I do understand what you are talking about. And I also understand if you will refuse the offer I’m about to make but if you wish to talk I think that doing it over a cup of coffee or something will be better than here.”
Wait, what? She wanted to talk with an old fart like Dragomir? Over coffee? Now Drago was more confused than suspicious. Still, he supposed that a bit of conversion wouldn't do him any harm. And besides, it would have been rude to refuse. "I suppose that would be nice, thank you." Drago wasn't sure whether or not she was offering to buy, but hoped that the Hamilton he had found a few days ago would be enough for some coffee.
“Of course, if you happen to know where a coffee shop or something alike is would be great. Cause I don’t know the area. Actually, I think I’m lost. The GPS led me here but this clearly isn’t what I’ve been looking for.”
"Tell you the truth, I don't know New York at all. I pretty much wander around until I see something familiar and go from there. However, I think I did see a... Stairbucks, was it? just a block or so away, if you want to head there. What does G-P-S mean? Is it your mutation?"
Alexandra couldn’t help herself to smile. “It’s Starbucks. They have good coffee.” She shifted her eyes to her car for a moment, pondering on whether she should drive it to Starbucks or simply leave it there until she returned. After a few seconds of thinking, she decided against driving. After all, it was just a block away. And if anyone even dared to touch her baby… oh well, there would be hell to pay.
Nodding her head toward Dragomir to signal that she was ready to go, Alexandra started walking, turning her head to the side to watch the older man as she spoke. “GPS means Global Positioning System. And it’s my car’s mutation.” She added with a chuckle. “Basically, a computer that has lots of maps to help you get to your destination.”
Drago nodded slowly. "Yes, that was it. They have the siren as their logo, right? It's just this way." Figuring that taking a construct of walking trash into a respectable establishment would not be appreciated, Drago commanded the little creature to wait in the alley, leaning up against the wall in an attempt to look like just another stack of crap. Also, Drago thought that advertising the fact that he was a mutant was not a good idea, no matter the country.

Dragomir nodded slowly to show his comprehension. "So it gives you like, your co-ordinates and how to get to places? Sounds useful, if you ask me." When they reached the Starbucks, Dragomir held the door open so that Alexandra could go in first, and then went in after her. Due to the lack of any sort of line, Drago immediately ordered his coffee.
"Can I get a, um, the smallest you have, just regular coffee, nothing special. Alexandra, what do you want?" Drago asked, turning a bit to the side so that she could see the menu. After Alexandra ordered, Drago put his money on the counter, saying "I got, it, don't worry about it." and collected his change.
Alexandra nodded too. The Starbucks indeed had a siren as their logo. She followed Dragomir, grateful that he wasn’t moving too fast. The damn shoes were really painful to walk in. Why the hell did she choose that pair, again? Oh right, she thought that the GPS would actually lead her to the right place and she wouldn’t have to walk too much. Sigh. The thought made her scrunch her nose when Dragomir mentioned the usefulness of the device.
“Yeah, it’s useful, until it leads you to the wrong place.” Alexandra replied, entering Starbucks. No line, she noticed. That was a pleasant surprise. Before she realized it, Dragomir was already ordering and asking what did she want. Also paying. Alexandra mentally shook her head. She invited him. She was supposed to pay. However, she didn’t want to make a scene out of it. “I’ll have the same.” She’d find a way to pay it back sooner or later.
