The Cause, and Solution to, All of Life's Problems
The interior of the establishment was rather tenebrous, stray beams of light illuminated certain key sectors such as the bar, DJ and portions of the dance floor, the latter of which revealed a writhing mass limbs and torso’s all pulsing erratically to the flow of synthetic music which emanated continuously from the DJ’s oversized stereos and no doubt crippling the hearing of all who chose to stand within twenty feet of the speaker. Despite such inherent hazards the undisciplined revelers threw themselves, sometimes literally, into the music’s seemingly stochastic rhythm. If nothing else it was an ideal opportunity to brush up against the opposite sex, or same sex depending upon ones inclinations.
Dance floors turned mosh pit’s are not to everyone’s tastes however, thus the management of the establishment had sought to increase their market share by converting the upper levels of the structure into additional recreational space, admittedly somewhat more subdued than the first the second and third floors ringed the pounding dance floor below, granting those above the opportunity to glance down and observe the energetic movements of their anonymous peers should impulse arise. Another subtle difference which separated the upper floors from the first was the wider variety furnishings, not to mention beverages, that coupled with a greater degree of light and a reduction in ambient noise, made the higher levels ideal places to relax and socialize in a somewhat more civilized setting and volume. Indeed the second floor was where Zephyr found himself this particular evening, seated within a lavish leather couch which afforded a rather clear view of the undulating mass of bodies below.
The reticent air elemental had wandered down to this particular venue in search of a wayward drug dealer who naively possessed ambitions to rise to something more than an illegitimate salesman. Dirk Davenport was the conceited cretins name, and the British mercenary had to resist the urge to sigh when he recalled the man’s asinine actions, stealing over 400kg of marijuana from your employer was hardly subtle, but what made it truly moronic was the fact that he had actually stopped and posed in front a hidden camera secreted behind a hallway mirror, thereby signing his own death warrant. The criminal underworld was far from lenient after all and no less than two hours after the ill advised heist a sizeable sum had been placed on Davenports head and word had spread to the streets like wildfire.
That had been roughly a week ago yet somehow the two bit crook had succeeded in lying low, with no one seeing hide nor hair of his flaming red head. It was a perplexing conundrum that anyone could avoid being seen for such time frame, especially when at least half the city was on the look out, yet it was not an issue that Zephyr allowed himself to dwelled upon; he would either find inane imbecile and terminate him, or the hessian would find some other means to while away the evening, if nothing else the bar served a rather colourful bourbon which the mercenary was coming to find quite appealing. He would have to remember to make a note of the producer, and do so before he drained too many glasses %110 proof was not something to trifled with, especially for someone with his body mass.
Tilting the half empty container in his hand the elemental allowed his thoughts to wander as he gazed distractedly at the amber liquid, absently noticing how it caught and reflected the light as his spatial senses informed him of two petite figures approaching his position.
“…umm, hi, we kind of heard you talking at the bar a minute ago. What kind of accent is that?”[/color]
A small grin played over the hessians features as his azure eyes gradually swept over the two women who had ventured towards him, a blonde and a brunette, both in rather… lightweight attire which seemed atypical of such a venue. A light chuckle escaped the Zephyrs as he placed his glass down on the table before him and gestured towards the empty chairs across from the couch as well as the vacant seats on either side of him. Meanwhile, the mercenary’s other hand, once free of the glass reached into the folds of his jacket and withdrew an ornate set of playing cards.
“Have a seat and take a guess, if you’re lucky I’ll show you a trick.”
Cafas: "Zephyr is the king of bad decisions, but if Sebby being weak to ghost is anything to go by, not so amazing at follow through."
It was a surprise, Sam said. To make up for the fact that their mission in Hawaii hadn't been all that relaxing. And according to several people (Aurum, Shin, Sam, a mystery person who left a bikini for her as a present, and several other employees included) she needed to "lighten up" or "take 5" or "chill out." Whatever that really meant. The only thing Sam had told her about tonight was that they were going out to have fun and that he'd explain more tonight, but she should wear a tight fitting top. Ghost pondered over this for several minutes before remembering something that Otieno had bought for her.
She stared at the black top with a frown. She'd never used it. It was totally out of her comfort zone... but she trusted Sam. If he didn't have a better reason besides wanting her to look good, she'd bring back her old friend Mister Baseball Bat.
When the horn honked out front, Ghost knew it was for her and Sam. Walking down the steps, she was pretty sure she looked good. The black corset gave the illusion that she had a waist and therefore some curve to her body. She wore a cornflower blue shirt over the black leather that only tied up the front and though she'd tied it all the way up, some black still showed underneath the lacing. As always she wore her favorite, a white skirt with enough ruffles and flounce to make every step a windy movement. Her feet were covered in silky blue ballerina flats. There was no way she was wearing heels when she didn't know where they were going.
Ghost slid into the back of the cab next to Sam, but no matter how she pestered him, he wouldn't tell her where they were going. He did, however, hand her a fake ID when the taxi stopped. A frown. And she looked up at the establishment in front of them. "A bar?" He shuffled her to the door where the bouncer seemed unconvinced, not that Ghost wasn't of age, but that she was a girl. "I'm wearing a skirt!" And before he could test what was under that skirt, Ghost scurried inside and into the writhing dance floor.

Waiting in the car for Ghost leaning forward and tapping the cabbie on the shoulder Sam calmly said, ”Can you honk the horn, I told her to come out as soon as she was dressed but,” Shrugging slightly Sam let out a small chuckle, ”You know how girls are right?” after sharing a laugh with the cabbie he laid on the horn and soon came out Ghost, her white hair in small pigtails not full but small ones seeing as her hair wasn’t that long. Trailing his eyes down to her face a confused expression was on he face, he knew she should be and the fact that she was wearing clothes that she would almost never wear probably didn’t help. Eyes landing on her chest Sam let out a small chuckle again spotting what looked like a corset poking from the top of her blue laced tank top. From the waist down however it was normal Ghost attire white skirt and what he could only guess a dancer would wear.
As she entered the cab Sam let out a low wolf whistle and said, ”Guess who just brought sexy back!” as the cab started to roll out of the grounds Sam’s attention was trailing from Ghost to the city lights as they made an occasional stop from light to sign. Sam had always told Ghost that she needs to get out more and lighten up a bit and for a time in the Hawaii Mission she actually did, though the fact that it took another agent of T.A.T. to seduce her into doing so was something he told her he needed to make up for. Handing her a fake I.D. got a little more questioning looks form her but he again waved it off and told her to wait for the surprise. He figured it would be obvious by now but Ghost was Ghost and she might have feared the answer to the questions she was asking for.
Looking at his fake by clearly passable fake ID he smiled and stuck it into his wallet, Thomas Castor was his name and he was from Midland Ohio one of his least favorite states in the United States. But that didn’t matter what mattered was getting Ghost past the security guards at the Dance club he planned on brining her. As they pulled up to the club the next question she asked made him chuckle a bit. ”Listen Haley Silton,” Sam grinned as he put his arm on her shoulder and guided her to the front of the entrance where a large burly bouncer was, ”This is a Dance club and a bar, think when two fun things meet!”
Turning his head slightly to those who were behind the velvet rope Sam grinned and pulled his magic wallet out and flashed his I.D. and then preceded to hand the guard a hundred dollar bill before smiling as the man asked if Ghost was really a woman. Playing it off as a joke Sam wrapped his arm around her hips before pulling her close and saying, ”Believe me she is!”
Looking around as they entered the few story club Sam first spotted the dance floor which was covered with girls and a few guys that he was sure he could persuade Ghost to dance with he then spotted the bar to the side which again figured he could persuade Ghost to drink at. Head tilting up Sam leaned into Ghost as his hand removed itself from her waist and back to his side, ”If you loose me at all tonight just head up stairs alright, we will meet there!” he yelled trying to make his voice be heard to the woman who stood a few feet from him. As the music blared he turned his head and spotted the bathrooms the stair well and the elevator which he assumed was for employees or the to drunk to walk customers. A mirror caught his attention as he nodded his head slightly to his and Ghost’s current wardrobes. He wore his normal jeans and black dress shoes as his blue shirt stretched over his muscles.
Even if he was technically seeing someone it never hurt to look good when fun was the plan. The best way to attract attention sadly enough was to make it seem like you were important and as he stood up straight and grabbed Ghost’s hand he tugged her along to the edge of the dance floor where it was safer than the middle of the center of the club where it was getting more and more dangerous. Tapping his feet as his shoulders loosened he started to dance with the music his hips swaying slightly as he looked to Ghost, ”Just move with the music!”
Christine and Lauren, those were the names of the blonde and brunette respectively. They were both from out of state having attended a high school which, in their own words, was located in “in the middle of nowhere and nothing.” Therefore the two of them had been quite adamant in gaining admittance to one of the urbanized universities and fortuitously their grades had proven sufficient to gain them a place at NYU this coming semester. Overjoyed at having been accepted the two luscious ladies had immediately sought out living quarters in the metropolis and moved in swiftly after obtaining a lease for although neither yet knew what they wished to major in both were exceedingly eager to partake in the cities highly coveted nightlife.
It had been surprisingly easy to initiate a casual rapport with two young ladies, after they had correctly surmised the elementals origins Zephyr had offered them an affable grin and congratulated them with a drink of their choice; returning with a margarita for Christine, strawberry daiquiri for Lauren and a pint glass filled to the brim with some scarlet concoction along with an impressive number of shot glasses. It was the last item which, understandably, grew a modest amount of curiosity, not only from the two freshman females but also those who happened to be residing nearby, the only response the elemental offered to such mystified gazes though was nothing more than a slight but smug grin which tugged at the corner of his lips.
Once the hazel haired hessian had dispensed libations to both the blonde and brunette he settled himself back into the confines of the opulent leather couch and wordlessly went to work assembling the majority of the empty shot glasses into a series of pillars whose height rivaled that of the pint glass containing the still unnamed crimson concoction. Once the three columns had been constructed the British mercenary swept three of the remaining micro containers into a triangular formation in front of the pint glass before then proceeding to pour equal portions of the carmine liquid into each of the three glasses, each time filling them precisely to the brim, always ceasing with an ornate flick of the wrist which caused a final drop of cardinal liquor to plummet into the glass without overflowing.
“…what are you doing?”[/color]
The query came from Christine this time, the slender brunette was staring with narrow eyed at the bizarre arrangement of glass while her more voluptuous friend simply gazed with an expression of almost eager anticipation. Neither girl had yet made a motion towards their own drinks, instead opting to examine the reticent hessians movements in an attempt to derive the purpose behind his movement, thus far however both women had come up blank, as had the majority individuals currently occupying the second floor. Bar tricks, after all were meant to be relatively simple so that the artifice could be completed within the minimum amount of time and thus avoid losing the attention of the audience. The set up required for this particular machination almost dictated that it was a step above the typical bar gimmick.
“I promised you a trick did I not? It would be remiss of me to go back on my word. I’m almost done so if I could beg your patience a moment longer I would be much obliged.”
With that said the taciturn Kabal member reached for the ornate set of playing cards he had withdrawn upon the ladies arrival and deftly shuffled the pile before slipping the top two cards off the deck without revealing their values. The embossed cards were then placed face down upon both of the brimming shot glasses and swiftly flipped so that only the thin laminated sheets prevented the miniature containers from releasing their contents across the varnished wood of the table. The swiftness of the move actually conjured a shocked intake of breath from one of the two girls across from the mercenary, though he was unable to tell which one with his concentration focused upon his current task.
The final stage of setup was concluded when Zephyr adroitly grasped a shot glass in each hand and, with practiced movements lifted each container into the air along with the card beneath it. Both sets of object were then carefully balanced atop the three previously erected pillars with the playing cards extending outwards slightly in a manner almost akin to a diving board.
“Now then, I propose a simple wager; if I am able to remove both cards without spilling single a drop the two of you lovely ladies shall join me in a series of drinking games, my treat of course. If I fail you will both receive $100 worth of credit at this establishment or another of your choosing.”
“Why not just give us the money?”[/color]
Azure eyes shifted towards Lauren as the brunette pouted in an enticing manner that was far too deliberate for it to be a natural expression. The mercenary’s brow rose as he momentarily re evaluated the naivety of the two girls before him before answering with a carefully crafted cadence of skepticism as he positioned him in front of the trio of columns.
“I merely thought it safer, after all if I simply give you the money every here will know and thus you become the target of muggers and other malicious individuals the moment you step out the door. Now then, do we have a deal?”
“You won’t move the glasses?”[/color] It was phrased more as a statement than a question and it was clear from the blondes furrowed brows that she was attempting deduce any sort of loophole or escape clause in the wording of the wager.
“My hands will never touch them.” The words left the elementals lips smoothly without a hint of deceit though there was the slightest trace of amusement as he glanced from girl to girl with his elbows perched upon the table and fingers entwined just below his eyes.
“Your not a telekinetic are you?” Lauren’s inquiry was delivered with a sharply raised brow and accusing stare which conveyed the sense of one who believes themselves to have caught someone red handed.
“As it happens I am not, indeed I promise you that my intellect is the only aspect of my mind involved in this particular trick. Are you both satisfied or must I sign something in blood?” The hessian delivered the final words with an arched brow and playful tone as he offered one of his most charming grins.
The two girls glanced at each briefly, each of them silently asking the other whether they wanted to involve themselves in what was clearly a rigged bet. A mere second was all that passed however before both women turned back to the grinning mercenary and nodded slowly, after all what did they have to lose? Either they won $100 apiece or they received an unspecified number of free drinks.
The smile never left Zephyr’s face though it’s nature did noticeably change, evolving slightly to develop overtones of conceit and self satisfaction as the Kabal member extended both hands towards the two playing cards perched atop the trio of columns. Grasping the edge of the embossed cards the elemental inhaled slowly, glancing back at the two NYU students, almost chuckling as he noticed their tension and allowed things to play out for just an extra second before both his hands flashed, sweeping the two cards out from underneath the inverted shot glasses. There was a moment of acute apprehension as the audience held its breath and watched the crimson contents of the upended containers tremble along with the three pillars as they adjusted to the sudden absence of the cards. The suspense was positively palatable as every eye watched and waited for the fluid to submit to the will of gravity… yet nothing happened, the scarlet liquid countered all intuitive expectations as it remained contentedly within the confines of their inverted containers.
A small spattering of applause resounded through the second floor as on lookers expressed their approval for a well performed artifice. Christine and Lauren did not join in the applause immediately, expressions of shock and bewilderment clouded their features as they attempted to divine precisely what had occurred, though as the sound of clapping grew around them the two girls swiftly joined in, any thoughts of disappointment at the loss of $100 momentarily displaced by their curiosity. However answers would not be immediately forthcoming for there were other things to do first.
“Bar tender! A round of tequilas if you please!”

Moving to a beat wasn't all that hard, it was moving without bumping into someone else. She had the distinct inclination to apologize every time someone bumped into her and soon that was just about all she was doing. She did not apologize, however, when someone got the bright idea to trail a hand up the back of her leg, lifting her skirt a bit. "Well~!" She'd turned to give someone a good scolding, but there were no obvious offenders. Just hands and feet and wriggling booties. Everyone seemed to be having a good time except for her.
Bu-- She could have a good time too!
Ghost stuck her tongue out at Sam who seemed to be wriggling with the best of them and this time didn't shy away when someone bumped up against her. She let the woman take her hand and lead her further into the crowd a bit, being slightly above average in height, she could still pick out Sam. The woman danced closer and closer and just when Ghost thought things might be getting beyond her comfort level and into the obscene, a man wrapped his arm around her tight bodice and rolled her into a different group of dancers that were pressed even closer together. "You were just waiting for the right man to turn you, weren't you?"
She gave the guy an unsure smile and eased out of his grip. What she was turning was beyond her, but she had the feeling that he wasn't talking about the song. The problem was that there didn't seem to be any way out. Ghost turned around looking for Sam, but he didn't seem to appreciating just how hard she was working at having fun here! He was gone from the spot where she'd left him. A hand was edging up her skirt again and Ghost bent her knees dropping into a squat to cut off the path of the hand.
Down at the bottom of the dance floor things were dangerous! She tried edging through gently, but people just didn't see her coming when crouched. She was jostled and bumped and banged around until finally she just gave up and used someone else's shoulders to help herself get back to her feet. He seemed to like it and kept dancing, waving his hips at her face. Yeah. It was time to escape the dance floor.
Once on her feet, she couldn't seem to make the stairs fast enough. In fact, she caught sight of a familiar blue shirt and she leapt up two or three steps at a time in order to lunge for his foot once he made the top of the stairs. As luck would have it, she caught his ankle in her tiny white hand from three stairs down. "Sam!" She hissed the words at her fellow Xman and it was their sibilant nature that made them audible over the blaring music. "There are crazy people here who want to rub all over you."

The music continued to screech throughout the dance floor as masses of bodies entangled themselves this way and that. Hands were reaching all over the place as Sam felt a pair of filed nails run through his hair for a second before he turned his head to see a girl dancing behind him. A small nod of the head and Sam was already looking back at his dancing partner ghost who was now sticking her tongue at him looking to him like she was enjoying herself somewhat. Watching Ghost be led off further into the crowd of swaying masses Sam let out a silent laugh as it was drowned out by the music.
Not really worrying about her Sam turned his attention to the woman that was rubbing her hands on his back. She was pretty but he had another girl on his mind while he was dancing with the girl so when she started to grind on him Sam’s mind was elsewhere until she kicked it up a notch putting her hand where it didn’t belong. Leaning forward Sam yelled near her ear so she could hear him, ”Thanks for the dance, it was nice meeting you!” and before she could turn around and say anything or do anything else Sam managed to snake his way out of the dance floor.
His eyes scanning about for Ghost with little luck Sam shrugged slightly and went to the bar ordering a tray of a few different flavored shots of Vodka he didn’t know if Ghost had ever had alcohol before but he assumed she hadn’t so it was he felt his duty to help her find out what sort of beverage she would be partial to. Asking for a tray personally and handing the cute looking bartender a large tip Sam smiled as he got a few different shots two of each and two bottles of Labatts beer. The beer was meant for him but if she wanted to try it he was more than willing to share.
Noticing the crowd and the people dancing slightly on the stairs leading up to the second floor Sam used his mutation to hold the drinks in place with a small layer of ice. He just paid for these and didn’t feel like going back to fight with the people at the bar to get another round of drinks. Looking around for ghost as he ascended the stairs he couldn’t see her white hair on the dance floor so he guessed she was either up stairs or better yet off with some guy.
As he continued walking up the stairs he felt a hand shoot out around his ankle and someone call out his name. Turning his head he sighed slightly and walked down a few steps to help Ghost up with one hand the drinks frozen to the tray in his other hand. ”That’s Dancing Ghost!” Sam said above the music with a smile on his face, ”You’ll get used to it!” he helped her up and waved a tray of drinks in front of her, ”These will hopefully help you to relax your to tense right now!” he led her up the stairs and found a few chairs near a table as he the man with two women near him call out “Bar tender! A round of tequilas if you please!”
”Looks like someone is planning a fun night!” Sam laughed slightly as he set the tray on the table and deactivated his mutation causing the ice to shatter, ”I have a few different flavored drinks for you here most of which are flavored, and if you want to try it I have a beer here for you!” Sam said as he reached forward for the first shot of blueberry vodka and through his head back downing the first shot then letting out a small sigh of relief as the alcohol burnt his throat.
The evening was certainly starting to look promising; a brief demonstration of rudimentary physics had allowed the elemental to coax the alluring ingénues into accepting, technically, an unlimited number of alcoholic beverages in the form of so called drinking games. Theoretically of course the alcoholic contests presented an equal opportunity for all those involved to become rather intoxicated, indeed it was likely that the odds were actually stacked against him, as in all probability Lauren and Christine would make a concentrated effort to work against the Kabal member in order to avoid falling under the influence to any great degree themselves. It was a logical ploy and had Zephyr been human it would likely have ceased any amorous ambitions he possessed for that particular night, things being what they were though the girls would not be quite so fortunate.
“How are you doing that?”[/color] The query rose from Laura as the brunette stared with an expression of utter disbelief across her features as she leaned forward to observe the upended shot glasses and their contents more closely, an action which was not lost on the azure eyed mercenary as it granted a rather impressive view down the front of her dress, momentarily diverting the hessians somewhat inebriated thought process and forcing Christine to repeat her friends inquiry as she too leaned towards the elementals miniature display and gestured to the glass structure with her free hand whilst her other clutched a half finished margarita.
“Hmm?” dispelled from his internal musings Zephyr’s gaze flickered upwards to catch the freshman still gazing intently at his paltry parlor trick, both seemingly oblivious to the views they were offering to someone they hardly knew. Still the elemental wasn’t about to complain and spoil the scenery, beautiful things were meant to be appreciated were they not? Indeed it would be a waste not to enjoy that which was displayed before him, not that he had any intention of voicing such thoughts, though still somewhat young the mercenary wasn’t quite that naïve; London was after all one of the most premiere drinking locations in the world, possessing enough alcoholic establishments that one could visit five different one’s a day all year and never visit the same on twice.
“Oh I assure you I’m not doing anything, though I will admit this particular trick can be somewhat troublesome at times. It only tends to work with kind hearted girls such as yourself.” Zephyr’s tone had adopted the cadence of a wise old sage combined with that of a mischievous child and as the hessian concluded his sentence his hands deftly flipped the two playing cards which had previously been underneath the inverted shot glassed thereby revealing the jack and queen of hearts. A somewhat cheesy maneuver, it nonetheless managed to evoke a subtle shade of pink about the girls cheeks which did nothing bus increase the elemental complacency.
“Now if your wondering precisely how the trick functions, I might be persuaded to share a word or two and perhaps something more should you both finish your current drinks and let the games begin.”The mercenary’s tone was again rather playful as he gestured to still unfinished beverages he had bought the two freshman blushed once more at the light innuendo before swiftly draining the remainders of their initial alcoholic beverages. The hazel haired hessian then rapidly shuffled and dispensed his ornately embossed playing cards, distributing an equal number to each of them before placing the remainder of the deck in the centre of the table beside his as of yet untouched glass construct. Three shots of tequila were then poured and placed before player as Zephyr stated the name of the game and began outlining the various rules.

Approximately 20 minutes later both Christine and Lauren had become somewhat flushed about the face as they giggled intermittently and leaned against each other, blatantly sharing their cards in an attempt to improve their odds. Occasionally their eyes would flicker over the contents of their hands to glance at their seemingly cheerful and absentminded opponent who failed to notice when they sporadically grasped an extra card from the pile on the table. In truth it was somewhat admirable that the two young women had managed to retain such a positive disposition despite the majority of game thus far, it seemed that no matter what ploy or combination of cards they used the hazel haired British man always knew what was coming and countered it accordingly.
For his part Zephyr was doing his best to refrain from smirking outright less he discourage the two girls, they’d really already had more than enough but they were still willing to play in hopes of obtaining another slim victory. It was largely a false hope for when one can sense the currents and flows of the air they are also attune to their airs displacement and thus with an almost imperceptible increase of air pressure each time a new card was drawn the Kabal member was able to remain informed as to the girls current hand and thus adjust his behaviour as appropriate. The few times the NYU freshman had won had been due to the elementals own sense of self preservation for he was fully aware that there may be other observing a game and a continuous winning streak would serve to raise suspicion. Still though his losses thus far had been minimal so he remained relatively sober despite the few bourbons he had consumed prior to the games and so long as he retained his head the night was looking most promising indeed.
Cafas: "Zephyr is the king of bad decisions, but if Sebby being weak to ghost is anything to go by, not so amazing at follow through."
"Augh! It's awful! Take it back." Ghost touched her hand lightly to the bridge of her nose. She tasted the effervescent backwash of sour bread all the way up in her sinuses. "That is beer? Why do people like that stuff? It's horrible!" Ghost waved the bottle back at Sam, more than ready for him to take it away from her. And she really needed something to get that flavor out of her nose so she took a sip of the blueberry stuff. It wasn't much better.
Some soft niggling made Ghost turn around. But, no one was there. No one any more than normal anyway. She shrugged and set the mostly full shot back on the tray.
"Bleh." So she went on to the next flavor: Strawberry. "Augh, are you trying to poison me?" She went on to the next and the next. Somehow she took bigger and bigger sips each time, they seemed to be getting tastier. Either that or she was getting used to it. She saved one specific flavor for very last. Peach. She knew it would be her favorite though she had to admit the watermelon one was pretty okay. She'd seen Sam down the whole thing all at once and now that she was pretty sure she would like it, Ghost did the same.
Where the sips had warmed her, the whole shot all at once was like burning from the inside out. It was like Sebastian's healing except without the cold. And it wasn't all that bad. Ghost smacked her lips and realized what was bothering her. Magic. No! Mutation. Same thing, right?
She let that part of her that sensed the air go and she was instantly directed to a booth with some giggling girls spilling out. From Ghost's angle, whoever was at the back of the booth was concealed by the club's fake plant decorations. But whoever it was, was also condensing the air briefly around the playing cards. Ghost had a flash of recognition and then another. 4 of clubs. Jack of spades. Had she not had so much practice picking out detail in her incorporeal form, she would never have been able to tell what she was seeing with such a brief touch of air. Who ever was cheating like this, they were not only good but they were practiced.
Ghost whipped her head back to Sam and froze for a second while the world decided whether it might continue whipping around or not. It only went a little bit further than she'd meant it to. No harm. "I think Zephyr is here." She whispered it really loudly just in case. After all, Zephyr was the only other air elemental that she had ever met, why shouldn't it be him? And it would be nice to see him again.
The chair scraped across the floor when Ghost popped onto her feet. She just had to see. "He's an air person like me." Ghost grabbed a free hand of Sam's and pulled him toward the plants that were between then two groups. Ghost wasn't naturally able to hide while solid. In the electric charged darkness of the club, her skin practically glowed. But for a short time she peeked through the plants just to be sure it was him. And it was.
She didn't really want to interrupt, but then again she wasn't sure he should be cheating either. Ghost summoned a short little gust that knocked one of Zephyr's elbows from it's place supporting Zephyr's chin. He looked so cool, she just had to try to knock him down a peg. "Are you playing nice, Mister Zephyr?" Ghost leaned out from behind the fake plants. Her tone stated clearly that she knew he wasn't, but it didn't keep her from smiling at all involved.

Laughing slightly as he took the beer he had handed Ghost and setting it on the table he shrugged slightly as he went through the flavored shots with her, he downing the shots while she took sips until she hit the peach flavored. As she downed it one go Sam leaned across the table and said, ”Congrats on your first shot, Care for another?” he asked as he pushed the other peach flavored shot her way knowing that he wasn’t going to appreciate the taste like she would. He was never big on peaches.
Seeing as Ghost seemed preoccupied with something for the time being Sam took the liberty to down a few sips from eh open beer that Ghost had dismissed so quickly. Guessing that beer had to do with an acquired taste he looked around trying to see what had preoccupied Ghost so much during their fun time. Shrugging slightly as he pulled out his phone and caught the text picture on the front of his screen Sam was about to flip open the phone and respond to the one who texted him until from the corner of his eye he spotted Ghost whipping her head back around so fast he thought she would develop whiplash.
”Who is Zephyr?” Sam asked turning his attention back to the area Ghost’s head was pointed at, ”How did you spot him if your back was turned to him?” Sam asked curiously not really getting an answer until a few moments later ”Ohh…” said Sam as the chair shot back as Ghost tried to get a better look. As he was about to take another sip of his first beer Ghost grabbed his other hand and gave him a tug and reluctantly he got up and followed her only after snagging both beers in one hand.
Watching with amusement as she tried sneaking up on the other air elemental Sam stood on the other side of a large plant the top of his head just clearing the plant as Ghost deemed it necessary to stick her head through to talk to Zephyr. Spotting the two girls with him Sam got the hint that they were interrupting something semi important the shots of what looked like Tequila only confirmed his thoughts. ”Sorry for interrupting!” Sam said giving Ghost's shoulder a small tug, ”Your friend seems to busy why don’t we go back to the dance floor Ghost?” Sam asked giving Zephyr and then the girl’s apologetic looks. As he took the unopened beer and put it in his back pocket and took a small sip of the opened one.
Zephyr’s modest smirk stretched just slightly while he watched the pair of freshman before him release a mock groan of disappointment as he reached across the table grasped the girl’s shot glasses, shifting the containers to the centre of the table as he deftly poured yet another round of tequila for the increasing inebriated College students. The amber liquid danced freely within the confines of the cups and rapidly rose up the short walls until both shot glasses were filled just below the brim, the elemental then returned the empty tequila bottle back to its original place at the edge of the varnished table as he gestured for the playfully crestfallen females to take yet another shot in order to add an even greater degree of colour to their already crimson cheeks.
After giggling to each other briefly both Lauren and Christine nodded giddily to their male host as they leaned forward over the table, unwittingly granting the duplicitous elemental another venereal view down the neckline of their rather sheer garments. Then as the duo took hold of their drinks, they maintained their prurient pose, even going so far as to dip their shoulders slightly as they bent their arms and brought the glasses to their lips to drain the contents before rising upwards abruptly. Short gasps of breath then escaped the two inebriated females as they slammed the containers back upon the table somewhat more forcefully than necessary and, the elemental noted, kept their arms braced against the wood to maintain their increasingly precarious balance.
‘Time to end this, I’ve put the denouement off long enough.’
Resting his head upon interlaced fingers and elbows upon the table the dissolute Kabal member allowed an audible chuckle to escape his lips and reach the ears of his feminine companions causing them to glance in the azure eyed hessians direction and more fully appreciate the amused yet critical stare cast towards them. The pair froze for the merest second, feeling as though they were suddenly a microscope, as Zephyr quirked his brows in mock visage of severity though they once again fell into a barrage of giggles.
“Well, I’d say the pair of you are properly hammered, I think it-”
Simon sensed it a moment before it struck and as such his speech paused a mere second before his left elbow was knocked out from under him by an unnatural gust, causing the elementals cozen proposal to die in his throat as he abruptly lost his centre of balance and fell forwarded an inch or two before his minds autonomic function rapidly worked to readjust his weight and prevent the hessian from collapsing against the table. The expression of utter bafflement however remained affixed to the Kabal members features for several seconds as he blinked and immediately cast his cobalt gaze towards the source of the aberrant breeze.
"Are you playing nice, Mister Zephyr?"[/color]
The air elemental in question blinked a second time as his sapphire eyes focused upon a slim, almost androgynous individual with a bright shock of white hair. Possessing only the barest hint of curves perhaps the greatest clue to the figures gender was the rather short skirt which clung tightly to her hips and draped lightly across her thighs, granting quite a generous view of shapely ivory legs. The barest hint of an obsidian corset was visible from beneath the lacing of an azure top and likely contributed greatly to the woman’s modest bust, as the Zephyr had encountered the girl she been somewhat lacking in that area.
The second individual, a brown haired male seemingly only slightly taller than Zephyr himself was a complete unknown, though considering what the Kabal member knew of the snow haired female it was likely that the man had some form of connection to the mansion, though he couldn’t truly be certain, it was entirely possible that the unnamed man was simply someone she had met here at the club, though that seemed even more unlikely…
“Ah, Mary, I hadn’t expected to see you here; to what do I owe the pleasure of your company and that of your friend?”
The sudden switch in the hessians visage from baffled to amiable was almost instantaneous and likely would have been missed had anyone blinked. The genial expression however was largely affectatious for although the mercenary possessed a mostly positive view of the slender girl her sudden appearance indicated nothing but ruin for everything he had worked towards for the last half hour or so. Ghost, or Mary as Zephyr had abruptly chosen to call her, was a fellow air elemental and thus could easily detect his duplicitous ministrations during the card games, indeed her opening statement had clearly established her grasp of the situation. All it would take was a few words from the slim sylph to create a somewhat unfavorable situation for the night, therefore damage control needed had to initiated immediately.
“Zephyr? What kind of name is that?”[/color]
Forcing a genial grin upon his features the hazel haired hessian turned nonchalantly to Lauren and made a dismissive gesture as he attempted to divert the freshman’s suspicion. “Nothing more than an abstruse nickname. You see I can be rather verbose at times and so I’ve earned the alias of Zephyr; essentially a rather roundabout reference to being a windbag. May here has also attained a moniker, though hers is somewhat easier to grasp as it is based on appearance, still I believe Ghost is rather fitting.”
As he spoke Simon’s eyes casually rotated back forth from the two NYU freshman to Ghost and her unnamed companion. His general manner remained largely relaxed though there was a slight undercurrent of strained tension, which the two inebriated females would likely fail to notice. The two girls would likely also fail to notice that Zephyr’s gaze remained on Ghost somewhat longer than anyone else as he attempted to impress upon her his desire for her to be silent and play along with his ploy.
Ghost was supremely pleased at Zephyr's bewilderment. She didn't quite get the looking from head to toe bit, but she was delighted to see him at a loss for words. Of course, with Zephyr this state of being could never last for very long. And alas, when he opened his mouth again her smile wilted around the edges somewhat.
“Ah, Mary, I hadn’t expected to see you here; to what do I owe the pleasure of your company and that of your friend?”
Mary? Ghost's nose crinkled ever so slightly. Oh, she'd show him Mary. She was gonna... Well, she wasn't sure what she was gonna because Sam had her by the shoulder.
"Sorry for interrupting! Your friend seems to busy why don’t we go back to the dance floor Ghost?”
I-interrupting? Ghost shot out her lower lip at Sam before ducking out from under his hand and slipping beside the table. Her legs were slim enough that the meager space between table and wall accommodated her easily. The only proof of her passing was the brush of skirt. "Well, we were just passing by and I just couldn't bare the thought of not stopping in to say hello."
A satisfied look crept across Ghost's visage. She knew she was trouncing on his evening, but if that evening involved cheating at a game in order to get two unwitting girls trashed it was her moral obligation to deflect those plans. Zephyr did not complain immediately when she sat herself right next to him. Of course he was still explaining his moniker, and Ghost's. Ghost gave Sam a look that said 'See? I'm welcome!'
Ghost nodded a shapely bow from the neck down at the other two ladies at the table. She was so pale all around that the name of Ghost, even without knowing her mutation, was all too easy to see. They didn't seem to get the she-is-welcome memo. But that didn't matter. Ghost was here secretly defending their honor after all. She didn't expect them to show gratitude for being saved considering that they did not know that they needed rescuing.
"Sam, why don't you pull up a chair?"
Ghost smiled all around, the only blush of color on her was the clothes and blush of lips and cheeks. "Percival, why didn't you introduce your friends?" Two could play the horrible name game. As soon as Sam came back toward their little gathering Ghost introduced him properly as if she had been waiting to show him how it was done. "This is Sam, he lives on the next hall over."
Ghost could be quite devious if she put her mind to it. She'd told Zephyr what he needed to know about Sam without blurting out all their secrets. Since he didn't seem to want these poor girls to know much of anything, Ghost wasn't about to ruin that. She was just here to ruin the cheating. Smile. Smile. Long digits picked up the empty tequila bottle and squished around the last little dregs of what looked like an amber liquid. "This stuff any good?" She glanced over the label. Made from agave? What the heck was agave?

It didn’t really matter much to Sam if Ghost knew the man she called Zephyr for the sole purpose of not intruding on his time with these now slightly inebriated girls. If Zephyr was truly causing problems for the girls they could simply up and leave, and seeing as they were sharing drinks with him… well that just showed that they were having fun, and that they enjoyed his company and here they were now spoiling their fun. Trying to close his grip on Ghost who managed to slip from under his grasp he frowned slightly as she weaseled her way into their area that wouldn’t fit Sam due to his size.
Sighing slightly he watched the pair exchange what he could assume were fake names as they tried explaining the situation to each other. Looking down at his half empty drink Sam felt the other one he was carrying in his back pocket before he waved down a waitress signaling for another, not sure if he needed it right away or not but they were here to have fun and this situation they were getting in clearly wasn’t fun.
Sighing slightly as he gave Ghost a small look he walked over and picked up a chair and walked it over to the opposite side of the hiding place they were poking through and now ghost. Nodding to Zephyr again Sam extended his hand and said, ”You know Mary, always looking for an excuse to say hello!” he shot Ghost a look knowing she wouldn’t be a big fan of the name as he turned to the girls who were Zephyr’s shot buddies, ”How’s it going?”
Pulling the not so cold beer from his pocket and setting it on the table in front of him Sam took a swig of his own beer and looked to Zephyr, ”Her first time drinking tonight,” turning his attention to Ghost and asking, ”If you want to try it let the waitress know, drinks are on me tonight, and we got a cab so drink as much as you want!”
Knowing the drink all to well Sam could honestly say he was never a fan of the powerful drink, Tequila takes your clothes off and sure enough he could be turned into a stripping fiend if enough of the drink was consumed but he however had no interest in drinking it what so ever, Vodka on the other hand….
Such was the direction subsequent events were rapidly taking; Ghost’s abrupt appearance had efficiently infused a sense of disquiet in to the elementals initial female companions causing both of the NYU freshman to adopt expressions which were a mixture of doubt and annoyance. The former was likely due to their uncertainty of the relationship between their British host and the pale skinned sylph while the latter emotion could easily attributed to the manner in which “Mary” had so tactlessly intruded upon their evening. It was needless to say then that neither Lauren nor Christine greeted Ghost with any form of amiability, instead remaining sullenly silent as they alternated between glaring at the possible competition and casting brief appraising glances towards the slender waif’s as of yet unnamed brown haired companion who, coincidentally chose that moment to issue a quite convenient statement.

Zephyr’s amiable visage grew slightly and a measure of the tension left his shoulders while his argus mind leapt upon the presented opportunity, nonchalantly gesturing a hand outwards atop the back of the couch as he indicated towards the nearby stairwell which connected the multiple floors of the building and nodded his head genially. “I understand the DJ tonight is meant to be quite talented as you can likely tell by the crowd he’s drawn, if you ever wanted to enjoy a night of dancing now would be the ideal time. Indeed why don’t you… go ahead and take seat, make yourselves at home.”
The latter portion of the hazel haired elementals speech lost any amity it possessed and became rather deadpan as Ghost swiftly ducked under the arm of her partner and slid herself onto the couch besides the increasing annoyed and despondent mercenary. Additionally, whether intentional or not, in her haste to duck down and steal a seat “Mary” had moved somewhat closer than was permitted for a casual acquaintance; actually sliding into the azure eyed hessian and knocking his arm from its place atop the couch and causing it to fall reflexively about the ivory haired waif’s delicate shoulders, thereby painting a picture which could be somewhat suggestive if one chose to take it as such.
To the credit of the two underage ladies though, or perhaps the tequila in their system, neither girl seemed to take any greater offence to Ghosts sudden actions beyond that which they had already bestowed upon the pale mutant. Zephyr for his part merely sighed, making no move to immediately remove his arm as his fellow air elemental promptly invited her own friend, Sam apparently, to find a seat and join the group, thus leaving Zephyr alone to deal with two increasingly unhappy freshmen and one troublesome sylph.
"Percival, why didn't you introduce your friends?"[/color]
The mercenary’s right eye twitched just slightly as the ignoble sobriquet issued forth from Ghost’s lips. Logically it was only fair that the girl be able to select his alias considering he had done the same for her, but still… Percival? The name was so archaic and possessed so many unfavorable connotations that it had never accounted for more than 1% of names in the past 50 years. Casting a quick glare at the gamine beside him Simon subtly drew his hand around Ghost’s body, out of sight from Lauren and Christine, before digging his fingers into the soft flesh of the slender waif’s side to wordless communicate his lack of amusement at Ghost’s games.
“Must you always use that name Mary?” The question was posed rhetorically for the dissimilating mercenary swiftly turned his attention back to the two inebriated females in front of him with an expression of mild chagrin upon his features “Percy is my middle name, my parents idea of a joke I suppose. John is my first name, and Stone is my last, dating back to when my ancestors worked as stone masons.”
Any further explanations or question were quickly prevented as Sam returned carrying a chair he had no doubt appropriated from a nearby seating area. Casually placing the chair down so that he sat between Zephyr and the two intoxicated NYU students the male mansion resident delivered a brief quip regarding Mary’s “friendly” ahead of extending a hand towards Simon who paused for the barest of seconds before accepting with a firm grasp and offering a short smile. “Indeed, in any case it’s good to meet you. As I was just saying John is my first name and these two lovely ladies as Laura and Christie respectively; they’re both currently students at NYU.”
As Sam engaged the drunk females in profitless palaver Zephyr finally eased his arm around Ghost’s back and brought the limb back to his side, allowing her move away should she choose to do before quietly whispering an aggravated inquiry to his fellow air manipulator. “Do you make it a habit to intrude on social events or are you simply inept?” The words were carefully cloaked by a crafted stream of wind to ensure that they made their way to Ghost’s ear and also prevented anyone else from eavesdropping, even if they did happen to notice that the mercenary’s lips were moving. Simon may have been aggravated but he wasn’t yet careless, even with a modest amount of alcohol in his own system, irritatingly though lithesome sylph seemed unperturbed by his comments and instead reached across to grasp the empty tequila bottle and muse aloud about its ingredients.

The hazel haired hessian turned to face Sam once more with his brow raised in a questioning manner as his left hand reached forward to pour another glass of bourbon, carefully measuring the liquid as it swiftly filled it’s container. “Indeed? Well I would hardly suggest starting her with tequila; her night will be over before it begins.” Without waiting for a response the hessian idly reached out and plucked the drained tequila bottle from Ghost fingers and replaced it with the half glass of bourbon. “I’d recommend this instead, it actually has a flavor one can appreciate.” What Simon failed to mention however was that the American whiskey was very much an acquired taste and some, such as the brand he’d just poured for Ghost could be even stronger than tequila in terms of alcoholic potency. Her reaction therefore would likely be less than approving to say the least.

Dance? Dance? They wanted her to dace? Preposterous! She'd just survived that thrashing hell pit and clawed her way up here into the relative calm second floor. No. Her place was here as the wriggly thorn in Zephyr's side. Smile, smile. She wasn't quite sure why he put his arm on her shoulder. It only seemed to make the girls across the table glare more pointedly at her when their eyes met. Didn't Zephyr notice that?
And the slight twitch when she called him Percival... she was willing to believe it actually was his loathed middle name. It was wonderful. All was going exactly as it shoul-"Hey! Not so fresh in front of company, Perc." He'd jabbed at the fleshy part of her side maybe to punish her subtly, but it had hurt! She felt the intensity of the glare go up a notch or two and was starting to feel a bit self conscious. Maybe she shouldn't have put her hair in little baby pig tails? Ghost made a pleading look to Sam. Couldn't he make them not so angry?
The girls went from glancing at each other to really, honestly getting their first good look at Sam. And he was worth a look or two, but... well, Ghost wasn't quite sure she liked seeing that look on anyone's face. The girls looked hungry. And if their host was otherwise engaged, they seemed to lock their sights on the only available morsel left to them.
Zephyr retracted his arm and then was employing his gift. That made her turn to him in time to get a little bit of a rebuff. “Do you make it a habit to intrude on social events or are you simply inept?”
Well... if those were the options... "Inept." She answered simply and offered him a smile. Her advised her against tequila and offered her bourbon. My, weren't they getting along nicely?
Ghost took the glass tentatively to her lips. It was a very big glass, but it wasn't all the way full. Everyone drank the little ones all in one go. If she didn't drink this one all at once was that okay?
Well, she could at least try it.
The bottom of the glass went up and Ghost took a big swallow and the start of another before she realized someone had set her insides on fire. It was seriously burning all-the-way-down! The bottom of the glass went down (where it should be!) and Ghost sputtered. But she didn't actually spit anything out until she saw what was happening across the table.
The girl. Her shirt. It was up. She was showing Sam what she had to offer him?
Ghost stood very suddenly and her knees bumped against the table in her haste. Zephyr's careful stack of shot glasses trembled and things started going in slow motion. An integral part of the formation was crumbling. She lunged for the drinks. Unfortunately, she only had two hands and her lunge had put her tangle of legs bumping harshly into Zephyr's. Ghost caught hold of two out of three of the red liquid-filled shot glasses and employed her gift to ensure that no liquid was spilled.
The down side to this daring drink rescue was that her momentum carried her over Zephyr's lap and so she ended up successfully saving two drinks but landed in a somewhat compromising situation. The third shot glass rattled to the floor spilling its contents over Zephyr's legs and Ghost's face as it bounced. The rest of the glasses tinkled against the ground. A few broke though most stayed surprisingly whole.
After so much action all at once Ghost had to stop and take a moment to let her brain catch up.

One thing that Sam enjoyed about drinking was the effect it had on people, not the drunk driving, what he truly enjoyed was just seeing people act silly and completely out of character. Ghost for example was interjecting herself into a conversation with one man she knew who was entertaining what he could only guess as collage level women who were pounding down tequila like it was nothing, and one thing that always remains true with tequila is that it makes you take your clothes off.
As the conversing between Ghost and Zephyr also know as the happy couple, Mary and Percival, Sam felt intrigued how relaxed Ghost had seem to become. Finishing his first beer and popping open his last one on his person Sam started to chug it until he spotted the looks he was getting from the two girls that were sitting off to his side and across from the show that was obviously making them upset that Zephyr and Ghost were putting on. Uhh…. thought Sam as there looks continued to progress into stares and grins.
Trying his best not to return any of the looks Sam turned his attention back to Ghost and Zephyr or John as he was calling himself now, he watched as John handed her a glass of liquor one that was definitely a darker looking drink, it was either scotch or whiskey from the looks of it though he could have been wrong as Ghost took a sip Sam nodded and said, ”Atta girl!”
Now laughing at Ghost’s reaction Sam noted that it was most likely whiskey for he had that same expression when he first tried it. Watching her set the glass down and sputtering Sam looked over to across the table and saw what Ghost was looking at.
A look of surprise now on his face followed up by a sly grin Sam saw a pair of breasts pointed right at him, coughing slightly at the topless woman Sam said in a slow tone, ”Nice…” the girl smiled and continued her shirt raised all the while Sam remained completely oblivious to the happenings of Ghost and Zephyr for the time being. Not knowing if it was Lauren or Christine, Sam reached into his pocket and flipped open his phone to take a picture of the now topless woman in front of him. The photo wasn’t for him quite on the contrary it was for his little brother, more of a ‘Ha ha, you wish you were me’ brother thing. Mainly he wanted to see his brother’s reaction to it.
Before he could send it he looked over to Zephyr of John to see his reaction and sure enough Ghost was laying across his lap. ”Wow….” said Sam allowed completely forgetting the topless woman in front of him. Saving the first picture to his phone he turned his phone to ghost and John and took a quick snap engraving the moment into his phone. Saving both and then looking back to the girls Sam blinked as the pair of them continued to look at him like a piece of meet though now both shirts were lowered back to their original and respectable location.
Averting his gaze Sam looked around for the beer that was already in his hand and downed the rest of the contents and then looked to the bottle of bourbon and took it from the table and chugged a small amount to avoid the uncomfortable feeling he was developing. He was sorta seeing Alex right? So why should he be so enthused about happenings of the bar right now?
Trying to kill the guilt and telling himself that he was only going to have a few drinks Sam waved the bottle of bourbon ”Who wants shots? Zephyr I’ll buy the next two rounds if it is all the same to you!” Sam said with a big grin on his face as he poured a five shot glasses full of bourbon. Raising his glass in the air he said, ” To Mary having fun!” the girls didn’t join him in the toast but they had no problem putting the first shot away.
