The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

A week or so ago, Audrey had been one of the two women to save a Jeweler from a Mutant attack. The Shapeshifter had gotten hurt, but all was well now, thanks to Xavier's Sister School. She hadn’t returned yet, but after seven days to think, she was quite sure that a second visit wouldn’t hurt. Well, it sure couldn’t hurt as much as the things she was about to do today. "Okay," she told herself, taking a deep breath. "I need to get this right, I want to get better. I need to." She was going to have a try at Shape shifting, something she hadn't tried to do in at least a year. Maybe a little less, she couldn't quite remember.
The eighteen year-old sat completely nude on the white bathroom tile of her small Apartment, her expression serious and relaxed. She was staring at herself in the mirror, getting ready for the pain that was coming. An open bottle of Pain killers sat on the counter near the sink; she'd taken Fade's advice, and swallowed three of them fifteen minutes ago to find out if it eased the pain a little. "Here goes nothing." she whispered, and then her entire energy was focused on one person: Jenny, the redhead she'd met in Times Square.
Her changing eye color, her red hair, her light skin... Her claws. Everything was in her mind's eye right now, and she could already feel the familiar twitching as her skin separated right in the center of her forehead, rippling down to her lower-stomach and then separating yet again so that two thin lines went down each of her legs. This wasn’t painful at all, just a little tickle as if a crayon was marking her skin. "Focus on Jenny…Just Jenny." she told herself, wincing even if the pain hadn't yet come.
It wasn't long before it would be coming, and she was ready for it. After one year avoiding the change, she could remember every detail of it...Every ounce of horror and torture. It was expected; she knew how bad it would feel. "Be strong..." She winced again as the line that separated her body in two halves became a little deeper, and blood trickled hotly on the cold floor. She was strong, she could do this. It wasn’t a lot of blood that was leaking out of her, not even half the blood that had fallen during the Jewelry battle.
It was still enough to make her rippling stomach twist though. With her Mutation and every quirk of it, it was a surprise the Shapeshifter was afraid of her own blood.
She panted as both halves of her body's skin started going in different directions, ripping in the middle, making her cry out in agony. It was even worse then she could remember, so much worse! "Make it stop!" she moaned desperately, her hands clenched in fists as new lines started appearing on her arms, starting the separation process there as well. She just wanted to rip her skin away, make it faster! The pain was probably going to be much harder to bear, but at least it would last a shorter time. Even with her pain-cluttered mind, she could tell that it would be a good experiment. Gross, but wasn't everything about her Mutation gross?
Small amounts of skin started ripping away from her body, falling onto the floor in big, fleshy masses. For the first time since the transformation had started, she glanced in the mirror to see for herself how Shape shifting looked. She'd never one this before- looking in a mirror that is, so when she saw herself, covered in bubbly skin and red flesh, mixed with blood, it was making her nauseated. She just wanted to throw up! She shouldn’t have looked... She shouldn't! "Why the hell couldn't I have been a Telekinetic, or have Claws?" she yelled, careless whether or not the neighbors heard at this point.
If they had heard, they would've been here to check up on her right now. The way things seemed, there was a murderer torturing her.
Another scream, as now her bones started cracking and re-shaping themselves to fit Jenny's structure. Her black hair was slowly shrinking back in her head so as to arrive at Fade's length. And then the worse part: the Claws. Fade's claws may be a Mutation, and as far as Audrey knew, she didn’t reproduce Mutations, but it was a physical trait. Physically, she'd look exactly like the victim, including the finger prints. It was scary, but she knew from experience that the finger prints were also the same. "ARGH! Make it stop!" she yelled again, taking another peak at herself.
She looked nothing like Audrey Walker. Her dark skin was now practically completely torn off, like a costume. Her hair, damp with sweat, stuck to her face and shoulders. It was a vivid red, and as she stared at her eyes, she realized every time she blinked, they changed colors. Blue, green, brown...Even pink. "At least the pain is going away." but she'd obviously forgotten the last part of the changing process. It was without a doubt the most painful.
Audrey got to her feet, the best position for her own shredded skin to fall out of the way. It was a very nasty sight, as if a bear had eaten through a human, leaving only the skin and bits of flesh. She looked at it, lying dead on the floor. It always freaked her out a little, that this was her skin. She always did wonder whether or not she'd be able to shift back to her normal self again. That transformation was a lot less painful; actually it didn't hurt at all. It was as if Jenny was just a costume, and now she was finished with it and taking it off. Why couldn't the part where she put it on be just as easy?
She looked from the skin on the floor, to the mirror, then at the clock. She needed to time herself, before it used to always take at least ten minutes, more depending on how different the person looked from her. Going from female to male was definitely one that took a lot more time. Today had been no different, Jenny had claws, and the claws had taken a lot of time to form. "Fifteen minutes, not so bad." she said hoarsely after all the screaming and panting. She could still feel the sweat covering her new body, but she didn't care about that.
She was about to test out her new form, when the next part started. Usually she'd remember this, but today had been a stressful day. The pain started from the tip of her fingers, going up to her brain, then down to her chest. She couldn't breathe as her fingerprints, voice, as well as other small parts of her that changed to match Jenny to the core. She'd never changed into another Mutant before, but now that she attempted to think about it, maybe she could replicate the powers too, since her DNA changed to match Jenny's as well.
"Argh!" she yelled as her brain altered a little to fit the new information. Her heart was pounding hard and loud in her ears, and she tumbled down to the floor in agony.
Her eyes shot open, it seemed as if only seconds ago she’d collapsed in a dead faint. Why? That had never happened before, has it? She glanced over at the small digital clock she’d installed in the bathroom especially for this little “training” session. It was a quarter passed four O’clock; she’d only been unconscious for five minutes, but still. Why had this happened? Her face puckered thoughtfully as she stared in the mirror at Jenny, well herself… actually. This was strange, was there anything wrong? Maybe it was because she’d changed into another Mutant, she’d never tried that before, what if she couldn’t turn back into her true form? Jenny would probably kill her for getting stuck in her body!
“Man, this is so not cool!” she breathed, now looking at her claws, Jenny’s claws. “Not cool at all.” she added, wiggling her fingers and then scratching at her counter top, leaving tiny white marks. “This is just perfect.” she was getting frustrated now, for some reason she felt as if this wasn’t right. “I wonder if I can phase or turn invisible…Like she does. Then it will prove my theory that I do replicate mutations…” Why was she speaking aloud anyway? Sure, she did that a lot, especially lately, but still. She walked over to a specific part of the bathroom, where there was only an empty wall.
“Here goes nothing,” she said, hoping that the holes wouldn’t be too hard to fix later. With that, she stabbed at the wall with her claws, climbing upward. It was actually kind of fun, until she got to the top of the wall (about 8 feet high) and realized she was stuck. This was so not the way she’d planned on doing things. Could she phase her claws through, maybe? That’s how Jenny said she’d done it… As far as Audrey knew though, she couldn’t do others’ powers. As hard as she tried, there was nothing close to phasing… She’d have to pull her claws out and hope she didn’t fall flat on her face.
