The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Raina stood off stage in the wings of the main aquarium where Spooke the sea-lion was currently doing a show. Dr. Gray himself- the telepathic owner of the NYC Aquarium was directing this act. He had Spooke jumping through hoops for the laughing and cheering audience- all who didn't seem to mind being splashed.
It was sunny and warm and the air smelled of a mix of fishy salt and hot dogs. Balloons and banners littered the air and any surface they could be attached to "Today- live mermaid makes first debut! One of a kind show! Help support marine wildlife!"
This would be the first and if they were lucky of many fund raising shows to raise awareness about endangered species and ocean habitat. After a lot of soul searching and discussion with here telepathic boss- who was frequently scanning the minds of audience members to be sure no one was planning to hurt Raina- she had decided to take up his offer of becoming the new poster mutant girl for conservation. Hopefully it would drive up the tourists to the aquarium as well... bad economy and all.
Raina also knew she had to stop running from her mutation. She had to embrace it. Gray had told her earlier that the audience was nearly split down the middle. Aside from the people coming to watch who actually knew Raina- people either thought she'd be a costumed mermaid like the ones in Florida... or a mutant of some sort. But nobody had any bad intent so far. Gray had mutant and human protection waiting in the wings if anything did go wrong.
But Raina knew it wouldn't. This was a good situation for people who were afraid of mutants. She'd be in a tank and almost like an animal to them. They could watch her but she was still somehow distant. A novelty. And she was completely fine if it stayed like that.
Dr. Gray announced that there would be a short intermission and that the mermaid show would start in 10 minutes so people better take their bathroom and concession breaks. He shot Raina a wink from his platform and Spooke even waved a flipper. She could feel the butterflies in her stomach. She peered around the edge of the wall she was standing behind to see if there were any familiar faces in the crowd.

For the sea-lion show Luke had been standing near the back of the crowd smiling slightly as he listened to the laughter that bubbled out of various children's mouths. Sure some of the adults were laughing as well but there was just something special about the way a child laughed. Their voices conveyed the innocence and wonder of how they saw the world. Sure they could be frightened just like any other person but they were more likely to accept someone different han any adult.
"We'll be taking a short intermission right now but the mermaid show will start in 10 minutes. Make sure you hurry back so that you don't miss this one of a kind performance!" A voice announced over the loudspeaker.
Closing his eyes in concentration, Luke focused his sonar back to the area off stage where he knew Raina must be standing. Finding her, he increased the power just a touch more and then carefully sent a few pulses her direction. Even though he couldn't go backstage he could still let her know he was nearby.
Once satisfied that his message had gotten across Luke carefully slipped through the crowd to claim one of the front row seats. Thankfully at least a couple of people had left, offended by the idea of a mutant performing, but for the most part everyone had remained to see the show.
"Good luck Raina." He murmured quietly as he sat back to watch the show, "Knock their socks off."

He was there to be supportive, he was there to watch the show, and most importantly, he was there for a bag of popcorn and one of the NYC Aquarium’s world-famous Sea-Dogs.
Yes, the Sea-Dog. One of nature's finest creations. Utter perfection on a bun. A little relish, some caramelized onions, all-beef polish sausage sizzled to the ultimate in bite and texture. Season to your taste. On top of it all, a secret sauce known only as 'Sea-Dog' sauce. Truly a mystery of the universe equal in grandeur to the mathematical perfection of the pyramids themselves. Shin truly believed you hadn't lived in New York until you'd tasted a Sea-Dog, and it was to that end that he'd brought a friend along for the ride.
The vendor spread a thin red line of catsup along the length of the frank, added the onions, and a spoonful of relish. Finally, he reached for the ultimate garnish to the dish; Sea Dog sauce. Shin leafed through his wallet, pulling out a five.
“Here you are, and there you go.” He handed the man the money and took his dog. The weight in his hands, the sheer complexity of the shape of the bun. Even the scent was awe-inspiring, salty and desirable like the siren song of the snacks. He looked over his shoulder at Kasumi, then back at perfection on a bun. Back to Kasumi as she stood there, waiting, then again to the dog. Chivalry tugged at his conscience like a drowning man tugs at the underside of a canoe. He smiled at her, and in an act of sheer and utter benevolence, handed her the dog.
"Ladies first~" His eyes snapped to the vendor a second later, with a waver of urgency in them that was only slighty over-the-top. "Another!"
The vendor smugly obliged, turning the dog on the grill with his fork. It only took two minutes for the second dog to emerge. Two minutes Shin spent waiting, with a frantic/impatient 'tap tap tap' of his toe. "How is it?" He glanced back at Kasumi after the first minute was up. He'd told her they were amazing, but different people had different tastes. He had to admit to that. Still, it was hard to fathom another seeing the Sea-Dog as anything less-than a tasty treat.
The vendor finished wrapping the Sea-Dog in foil and passed it over the counter to Shin. "Your order," he muttered.
Oh, thank heaven. Shin reached over to grab it, grinning happily at the weight in his hands. Walking on cotton candy, he turned back to Kasumi.
"Let's go find our seats~ Raina's show starts pretty soon now~"

Kasumi is happy that Shin asked her to the Aquarium yes she has been to many in her life but one never this big. Also someone that they knew had a show here it is so cool! Kasumi could not help but to smile ever scen the ball that night she was not hideing her stops. She has on a dark green tank top with a pair of blue jean shorts around her hips is a black leather belt and her green saddles. Her hair is pulled up into a pony tail to . stay out of her face.
Shin comes to her as she smiles taking the "sea-dog" She speaks in a happy voice "Thank you Shin." He is always so sweet to her. The smile does not fade. She takes a bite of the "sea-dog" Shin was not lieing when he said that they were good. Kasumi smiles more "You were right Shin it is good!" She nods to Shin as she looks at him with her eyes. She soon walks with him nibbling on her "Sea-dog" happy. She feels like a little kid again She has not been to an Aquarium forever so that can be why. She loves the sent of the sea the sights. She keeps close to Shin also the last thing that she needs is to get lost. Soon she is to Raina's show she sits down as she crosses her legs. She looks around with her eyes. Soon she looks back at Shim "Thank you I am having fun." The smile that she shows is true her eyes seem to almost glitter. She wonders what Raina's show is going to have. She could not help but to think about it. Yet a huge part is Shin asked her to come with him. It crosses her mind is this a date? What if it was? This time she does not blush yet her smile grows that will be so cool. She looks around at everyone that came to see the show also. Alot of people love things like this she was not alone. She nibbles more on her "Sea-Dog" just being happy being who she is for the first time in her life.

ooc: sorry for the delay! was unwell... then busy! Ic: Raina felt a sudden chill and thought she saw something out of the corner of her eye. Though for most people that would be somewhat unsettling for Raina it was comforting- it meant Luke was casting his sonar on her and was either very close or already here. She could feel the butterflies in her stomach.
She wondered if anyone else would arrive that she knew. Even though the good doctor was giving her the go ahead she knew she'd feel better with friends and supporters in the crowd. But for now... knowing that Luke was there was enough.
She took a breath and stepped closer to the water's edge- a portion of the pool unseen by the public. They'd discussed that she wouldn't transform in front of anyone... but behind the scenes. As she waited for the tick tock of her watch to show her it was time her toes wriggled nervously millimeters away from the gently lapping water.
Spooke was already swimming happily around and on queue arrived at the waters edge looking up at Raina hopefully. "You know Spooke, I always wonder what goes on in that Sea Lion head of yours. You'd think the woman with water powers and a fish tail could talk to animals... but I still have no clue what you're saying."
Spooke barked enthusiastically.
"Ok... it's now or never." she said slipping into the water nude from the waist down.
In true mermaid fashion Raina was sporting a shell bra. And not much else. That didn't matter though as her legs twisted and bones popped and that familiar fishy smell took over. Her tail was looking especially healthy today- gleaming in the sun. She always thought it made her look a bit christmasy- what with the red hair and green tail. She wondered if that was the standard... this green tail thing. Why wouldn't it be another colour?
No time to wonder as Dr Gray announced her. The last thing to form were the slits on her neck and Raina silently slipped below the water.
The people sitting the closest to the pool were the first to see the figure emerge from the tealish water. Hanging on to the neck of Spooke the mascot for the aquarium a genuine Mermaid appeared under the water.
There were small gasps, nervous laughter, and curious faces from the front while those in the back leaned forward and even stood up to try and get a better look. But they need not look long for soon Spooke and Raina had launched themselves into the air for all to see breaking through the water splashing the crowd.
"Ladies and gentlemen... may I present... Spooke and Rain Water!"

Meld wasn't really sure what drew her to the mermaid show except that she was pretty sure the so-called mermaid must be a mutant and where there was one mutant, especially a mutant performer, there were likely more mutants. She certainly didn't have much concern for the endangered species that the event was raising money for but she didn't hold any grudge towards them either. She payed her money at the door and hoped that it would prove to be worth giving up yet more of her small amount of income.
The show started somewhat overwhelmingly with Spook the sea lion, who Meld was pretty sure was not a mutant. Unless it was a mutant who could transform into a sea lion but somehow she didn't think it was. She had met a mutant who could turn into a cat in the past so she knew it was possible but this seemed to be just a sea lion doing the things that a trained sea lion could do.
Intermission was eventually called and Meld considered leaving the place all together but eventually decided against it. She had come here to view a mermaid and she was going to view a mermaid, one way or another. She wished she had had the foresight to bring some food with her from Sanctuary, since she didn't even have the money, currently, to buy herself some of the greasy aquarium food.
Sighing, Meld got up to stretch her legs, patently ignoring the stares she got from those around her. Unexpectedly she noticed some very familiar spots. "Kasumi?" she called out, raising a gloved hand. She hoped the mutant remembered her.
"Ladies and gentlemen... may I present... Spooke and Rain Water!" Meld turned back to the show. This was what she had come here to see and she hoped she would not be disappointed.

There was no way that Luke could keep the smile from his face as soon as Raina came into view. Not only was this the woman he loved but she was a mermaid to boot. Of course he'd have to get used to the fact that other people, especially men, would be looking at her now that she was performing out in public. She'd be attracting all sorts of attention and would more than likely be something of a celebrity. It would make their relationship more difficult but there was no way he was going to let that stop things.
"Show them what you can do." Luke murmured quietly as he simply sat back to watch the show. His sonar was focused on the tank in front of him and his attention was completely away from the rest of the crowd. The fact that at least one or two people he knew were nearby was completely lost on him. All he could see was the beautiful mermaid that was moving through the water.

"That's good." A smile lit up Shin's face as he rested a hand on the bench, next to hers. "I'm having fun, too." And it was nice showing her a bit of his world. "If you like the Sea Dogs, I know a restaurant in the Buroughs that puts these things to shame. I'll show you that some time, too. They serve the best authentic Chinese I've tasted state-side. Gyoza that actually tastes like gyoza's supposed to. Who'd have thought?" He laughed, and balanced the hot dog in his free hand, head turning as something splashed into the water. A voice called out behind them, and Shin looked across the crowd in the direction of the person who'd called.
He tilted his head. "A friend of yours? Wanna invite her over? The shows about to start..." He waved at the girl, with a bun in hand, then wheeled the Sea Dog up to his mouth.
Just as his jaws lowered to take a bite, though, Raina drifted into sight. They stopped where they hung. Her hair drifted in the water as she bobbed in the tank amid the teal. A seal floated next to her, happy and carefree. He'd seen mermaids before in books, but never like this. And never like this for Raina, either. She drifted with a nervous grace, but somehow he got the feeling of confidence.
"Wow. She looks at home." Unconsciously, his fingers slipped across the bench as he watched the show. Before he knew it, he was holding Kasumi's hand.

Kasmui soon beams as she nods to Shin "I would love to go. I have not had Chinese for a long time now. Also I should make you my Sushi some time of you like it. I love to cook and well I am good at it well I am told." She soon nods she would love to make Shin dinner one night. That would be wonderful she has not cooked for anyone for a while now. Kasumi takes another bite of the Sea-Dog as she looks over to Meld "Yes I met her one night. She is nice I am not sure if she will want to sit with us.."
Before Kasumi can get done with what she is saying Rain soon comes out with the sea lion "Wow she does look wonderful and carefree. Kasumi is soon in awa never seen a real mermaid she can feel her heart pounding as she smiles. The books and movies could never show her what she is seeing with her own tow eyes right now. Rain looks just like a myth to say.
Kasumi smiles more as she leans soon she feels Shins hand on hers she blushes some yet she smiles. . Soon Kasumis fingers wraps around Shins hand as she smiles more there is still a light blush on her cheeks. She can feel her heart beat pick up some but not to much. They are holding hands this is a date. Soon she goes back to watching Rain as she smiles huge.

Raina couldn't make out the images of her friends yet from the milky sea water but as soon as she broke the surface with Spooke in the biggest jump she could muster that sprayed the audience in the front in a sea world fashion- she spied Luke. She landed back in the water to the oohs and awes of the audience with a giant smile on her face and a blush.
She whirled and twirled under the water while Dr. Gray spoke about what Raina's show was out to do- raise money for conservation and activism. He talked about where the money was going, how they could donate, and what they could do.
Meanwhile Raina smiled and waves, swam, dove, jumped, back flipped, and splashed. Everything seemed to be going smoothly. And she couldn't be happier.

Meld began making her way towards Kasumi, the only familiar face in the entire place. Part way towards her she stopped, hesitating, unsure if the other woman would want to be around Meld or not. They weren't exactly friends, after all, they had just met once. Before she had more of a chance to debate whether or not she should simply insinuate herself, the mermaid made her appearance.
Meld found the mermaid to be quite beautiful and quite at home in what was obviously her element. She couldn't help but be entranced by the show occurring before her and barely heard what was being said about where the raised money was going. It was one of the only times she could remember in which the humans around seemed just as entranced by the show before them as she and the other mutants. Or at least, given the fact that a mutant was performing and Kasumi was present, she felt it was safe to assume that there were other mutants. Meld clapped just as enthusiastically as the others in the crowd at the appropriate places.
