The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was New Year’s Eve, and Tses found herself pacing in her apartment, glancing nervously at the wall. The clock read 8, and outside darkness had already fallen. Many of her fellow apartment buddies had slipped out into the busy night, and outside the window the sounds of the festivities were drifting through the thin walls. Crowds of people had snuck towards Time Square for the famous ‘ball decent’, and while many others had drifted to other public places to celebrate. It was a night filled with excitement, and Tses was among those looking forward to it.
Trying to drain her nervous energy, Tses moved towards her window, and shoved open the glass pane. The still new plastic gave a creek, and resisted a little against her push, but eventually it moved upward. Cold air fluttered in and nipped her face, and she felt an involuntary shiver shake her bare shoulders, before she stepped out into the cold air, breathing deeply. Voices cheered on the sidewalks, and a few pre-party-drinkers stumbled through the streets. From her perch, she could see a city of lights dancing across the horizon. The sounds of whistles, tiny part poppers and laughing people floated through the air like tiny feathers of sound, each meeting her ears with a tickle of vibrations. It was a perfect night to be out in the city, and she was eager to get going.
Her bare feet prickled with pain as the frozen metal underfoot started to bite at them, and she glanced down the alleyway one last time for the figures she was hoping to see. But no red hair and now slim female girl came into view, and she retreated back into her warm apartment. The moonlight powered mutant tried to calm herself, and glanced once more at the clock. It hardly seemed to move, and the cold air coming through the window cleared her thoughts enough that her nerves started to settle.
To pass the time, she slipped off into the bathroom, and decided to try and do something with her hair beyond her customary pig tails. Picking up her brush, she smoothed out her gold locks, and picked a few strands of hair free, pulling them back into a half ponytail. Scrapping the idea, she yanked it all into a bun, and with some struggling and some twisting, she managed to make a rather fancy little twist that she clamped up with one of the few claws she had hidden in the drawer. Her bangs fell down wispily across her face, and she looked formal for once. Perfectly acceptable to meet Ty’s sister. With another little frown of her face, she fished in the top drawer, and managed to find a little used tube of mascara. She dabbed a little on her eyelashes, only stabbing her cheek once, which was easy to clean up, and then took a step back. So far, so good. But she needed something to go with it.
Back in the living room, she opened the dresser drawer, and shifted through a few of her nicer clothes. A gift from Chrys---who, was still in Tses’s mind, a spoiled brat and a manipulative jerk---these expensive items seemed appropriate for a date. Not that Tses really knew much about dates, or how they worked when younger sisters were supposed to tag along. She shoved aside the dresses, and grabbed the blue camisole, putting it on, and then pulling her leather jacket over it. The material had long since lost the smell of Ty, but it still felt comforting. Rather than her skirt, she opted for her jeans, and then put her combat boots on her feet. By now the clock had swung around to 8:30, but still there was no sound of visitors.
Trying not to worry, Tses sat on the couch, and pulled one of the books on her coffee table closer. Alice in Wonderland was on top, and she slowly cracked the cover, and tried to make sense of the words within. “All in the golden afternoon. Full….lei….sure…ly we gli-deh; For both our….” Her face crinkled with concentration as she tried to make sense of the words, and she bit her lip slightly with frustration. When she tried pronouncing the words, sometimes she could make sense what they meant, but other times, like now, she just got more annoyed. With a sigh, she set down the book, and fished in her pocket for a CD player. Then with music in hand, she moved to the fire escape and sat down on the cold metal, letting the music drift into her ears.
Seven seconds to the rise. Can’t believe I’m still alive And heaven was waiting for me I thought this would be the end But I know you’ll understand All that is keeping me here.
Under her feet, couples walked hand in hand, and hugging and cuddling, and occasionally exchanging a kiss or two. Tses watched them from her spot, feeling a little guilty, but also trying to understand. Ty wanted something like that. It was more than just something cute and cuddly; it was a closeness. The people she watched enjoyed being together, enjoyed the contact. Why wasn’t she like that? What made her so resistant to letting someone close? They had made some progress, sure, but she had still upset him last time he left. She wanted to try being a better girlfriend, and being less of a …. Porcupine. But she wasn’t entirely sure if she could.
“I dream of a stairway to the skies My angel is coming down From heaven to take me I reach out but then you fade away Whenever you call for me Know that I’m only one step behind”
She sighed, and put her head on her knees, and pushed the repeat button on her cd player. She didn’t know why, but the soft melodies of the song made her feel calm. While they didn’t cheer her up, and didn’t give her the sudden answers to life and all its mysteries, the rhythm offered some type of companion to the cold winter night. As she though, she tried to think of other things her and Ty could do. She saw people go to movies, and eat dinners… nicer dinners, ones she might even ask Chrys for help dressing for. Or, she could even surrender to her pride and ask him to teach her to read the book on the coffee table. It was a New Year; she wanted to try and find a new Tses to match.
But the night grew deeper, and the wind grew colder. Even with her leather jacket, she started feeling cold, and the metal under her made her body feel frozen like ice. She curled up against the weather, but kept watching, hoping to see someone making their way down the street.
But they never came.
Midnight hit in the distance, and the city erupted. But Tses sat staring emptily at a frosted alleyway. Music flickered through her head from the head phones, and she couldn’t move, couldn’t think. She wasn’t sure what happened.
”I sense this time may have changed But one thing still remains I’m torn and the hate still lingers I slowly start to realize We won’t reunite I still have to march on through”
A single tear rolled down Tses’ face, and she felt realization starting to dawn. Ty wasn’t coming. The New Year’s had come, and she was alone. Again. Sitting on a fire escape, watching the world celebrate. In 13 years, nothing had changed. She had hoped things would be different. But maybe, that false hope was just going to be her demise.
”I dream of a stairway to the skies My angel is coming down From heaven to take me I reach out but then you fade away Whenever you call for me Know that I’m only one step behind”
So she sat, and watched the world wander past, and fireworks flickered in the distance. But to her, they looked like blurs of colors, as tears started to roll down her face. In her world, there was no celebration. It was just showering firework tears.
