The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Different people people have different ways of relaxing. Some release stress by doing yoga, golfing or making uneven pottery at a clay molding course. Others preferred more exciting games, like hunting.
It was a really nice, sunny day, and Chris was standing with his back against a tree in the mansions backyard, slowly peeking around the tree's trunk. He didn't want to scare away the flock of pigeons that was lazily pecking around some flower beds. Normally the birds didn't care if humans got near them, they just wobbled out of the way if they risked getting stepped on. But over the last months, the pigeons at Xavier's Sister School had learned to keep a watching eye at their surroundings. Chris didn't mind that - it was more fun that way, actually.
He'd been at the institute for almost half a year now and had slowly started to adept. He was getting used to being around people and didn't freak out as often. That was good, because he was planning on staying here for a while. It wasn't as if he had that many options. He was 18 now; legally considered an adult. He had no hopes on going to college, because even if he wasn't a mutant his grades were practically non-existing. And he felt that he'd have trouble finding a job.
But for now, Chris pushed all the thoughts of the future away from him and concentrated on the task in front of him. He slowly dropped down on all four and sneaked up behind a big, green bush. The pigeons didn't notice anything, they just kept on in their endless search for food. Chris was only a few foots away now, he could cover that with a leap. He crouched down and focused on a particularly fat pigeon. Frowning with concentration, he prepared himself for the jump. Unless he got startled, there would be fowl for lunch today.

Shin's head hauled back as he took in a quick breath, then shot forward in a sneeze.
"Achoo!"
He blinked blearily at the world around him. That sneeze had been intense. Where was he, again? Blink, blink. Oh right. He was on the front lawn. What had he been doing? Shin absently tapped his right templte, bowing his forehead in concentration.
He'd been up late the night before. He hadn't been able to sleep. He'd been hunting for information on stalkers. How to stop them, how they started, what one could do to protect themselves better, and prevent it from ever happening again. He'd tried being cool about it, and telling Kealey he'd protect her, and he'd been serious, but... that didn't mean it didn't worry him. He wanted to know all he could, so he'd be ready for anything.
Ready for anything... heh. Anything except remembering to sleep. Or being awake, actually. Shin looked around again. What had he been doing again?
The Siberian Husky on the end of the leash in his grip looked back at him, tongue lolling out. Shin's triangular pupils focused on the dog.
"Oh yeah..." He'd been walking Thor. Because Thor needed exercise... and maybe, he needed to go.
Across the grounds, something caught the dog's attention. Before Shin knew what was happening, his arm was being dragged across the grass, and him with it. The Siberian Husky barked at the birdies. His barking scared them away. If anyone had had any birdwatching (or eating) plans today, the husky's efforts had really fouled them up.
"Thor!!" Shin's mind caught up with the dog. He gave the leash a firm tug. "I TOLD you not to do that! My arm doesn't enjoy being ripped from its socket. It's kind of grown attached to me..."
Thor ignored Shin's reprimands, strutting over to a green bush, and doing what dogs do. He sniffed around, and found a place he liked, and then... Stopped. Thor barked. He'd found something of interest.
Chris froze, still crouching behind the bush, when something came bouncing and barking towards the flock with pigeons. The birds reacted immediately - taking to the air they flapped away over the house, out of sight. Chris sighed and his stomach growled sadly. Oh well, maybe he could track down a piece of raw fish or chicken in the kitchen lately. His attention went back to the dog that had scared his lunch away, because of course it had been a dog. Chris was not a big fan of dogs - it was hard to forget that memorable evening when he was 14 and had spent a couple of hours running and hiding from a pack of snarling, barking dogs one of his neighbors had sent after him just because he'd gotten a bit to close to the old man's yard. And most dogs didn't seem to like Chris, either - it was probably the fact that he looked human-y but smelled like fish that disturbed them.
At least this dog was on a leash. Chris squinted, trying to make out who the dog owner was - a tall guy with black hair and Asian features. Chris recognized him, he'd seen him in the hallways a couple of times but never really talked to him. He was a Mansion Greeter and some kind of X-man, if memory served right. What was his name again... Shinbo? Yeah, that sounded about right, and... what was the dog doing?
The husky was sniffing around the bush Chris was hiding behind and suddenly started to bark, loudly. Chris reacted instantly, jumping up from his hiding place and backing a few steps with his hands up in front of him if the dog would attack him or something. "Whoa!!" His attention was still at the dog, but when he slowly looked up at Shinbo he realized that it probably had looked really weird - him hiding behind a bush and suddenly jumping out like a Jack-in-the-box. "Ehm... good morning, sir, I was just... I was just..." He fidgeted nervously with his hands in front of him, searching for inspiration. Some of the Mansions inhabitants didn't really approve of him hunting birds on the Mansion grounds, calling it 'cruel' and 'unnecessary'. But a guy had to eat, right? Anyway, to avoid trouble he didn't talk about the bird-hunts unless he had to. "I-I was just... just... keeping an eye out... you know... for suspicious-looking characters?" he said, somehow turning the statement into a question. "What with all the... uh... kidnappings and all, you know..." His voice died away, since he wasn't really sure how to continue. Awkward.

When Chris sprang back out of the bush, like some macabre Jack in the Box, Shin nearly fell over on his backside in shock. He hadn't been expecting a gray man to appear suddenly. He'd expected a squirrel, a cat, or the usual rabbit Thor enjoyed barking at. Thor never had barked at mutants.
Shin tugged at the leash, easing the husky back a bit. "No, Thor. You leave him alone." He admonished. He looked up at the gray boy, taking in various details. His eyes measured the boy's height as best they could, failing to take note of how he wasn't standing straight as could be. He noted the grayness. Mutant. And judging by the webbed fingers, it may have been related to swimming. Fish boy? Duck? Why was he making excuses?
>>"What with all the... uh... kidnappings and all, you know..."
O-oh. "Well then," Shin coughed into his fist, drumming up an air of professionalism. "Good work. We certainly don't want bad things happening to our mansion residents." Any of them, Kealey-included. Shin switched the hand he was holding his leash in, tugging Thor's curiosity back again, and extending his right hand out towards the other mutant with an earnest smile. "My name's Tetsuya Shinbo. I'm one of the team leaders for the X-men. I appreciate the help keeping the peace."
The other mutant presented himself as Tetsuya Shinbo and offered his hand. Good, then Chris had been right about the last name, at least. "Yeah, I know. I mean, I've heard about you," he said, shaking Shinbo's hand. "I'm Chris Berg. I've been living here for five months." The X-man actually seemed okay with Chris keeping an eye out, and Chris made a mental note to actually watch his surroundings carefully next time he went out to hunt - maybe he would actually notice a kidnapper or something and make himself useful for once.
The dog was panting loudly, trying to make some sense out of the fish-smelling mutant in front of him. Chris backed away with a kind of wary look in his eyes. He'd prefer to have some air between himself and the animal, just in case. "Is it, uh... your dog?"

His name was Chris, and Thor was worrying him. Shin looked down to the husky. "Oh, Thor? He's harmless," Shin replied. He reached down, and scratched the animal behind its ears. Thor gave the doggy approximation of a smug grin. "Thor's a good dog. He won't chase you. He only chases squirrels, and the occasional rabbit. You can pet him, if you want." Shin offered. "I was just taking him on a walk."
Chris looked down at the black and white dog in front of him that was just sending him some kind of husky grin. Hm. He slowly extracted his hand towards the dog's head, ready to draw it back if the animal made any sudden movements. But he didn't, he just sniffed curiously at the hand, so Chris carefully patted the dog on it's furry head and then quickly withdrew his hand. "...Nice dog."
Chris scratched his the back of his neck, not really sure if he should go and look for the lost pigeons or if he should stay and talk. Shinbo seemed like an amiable enough fellow, but maybe he wanted to continue to walk his dog. Chris wasn't very good at small talk, but he decided to try anyway. "So, uh, what´s it like? Being an X-man?" It was probably the most over-asked question to the ask someone on the X-squad, next to ´so what´s your power?´, but he was actually curious.

Thor was good. He didn't bark or bite or anything. He liked being petted. When Chris patted him, Thor let him. He stood there, calm and collected. Shin went on one knee, scratching behind Thor's ears as reward for his good behavior. "Good boy," He gave Thor's head a final pat, and returned his sleepy attention back up to Chris.
Chris asked him a question. What was being an X-man like...?
"It's hard," Shin replied frankly. "It isn't easy, but at the end of the day, I feel good about what I'm trying to accomplish." He did. Sometimes. Sometimes, it was harder to know he'd accomplished anything. There were always tests to his patience. "Why do you ask?"
Shinbo scratched the dog behind an ear - he really seemed to like his dog. Chris didn´t really understand what made people so attached to their pets. He knew there were some who treated their cats and dogs like they were their children, carrying them around and buying clothes to them and calling them "tiddly widdly sweetie-pie" and stuff like that. Chris really couldn´t see the point in it, but at least Shinbo didn´t show any signs of babytalking.
When he explained how it was to be an X-man, Chris just nodded. He´d asked Fade once, and she´d said something similar. But then Shinbo asked why he´d asked, and that fazed him a little. "What? Oh, I was just... you know, wondering. I don´t want to be an X-man or something like that," Chris said hurriedly, holding up his hands in front of him. But then he realized that it could be misinterpreted. "I mean, I don´t mean that it´s anything bad with it, I probably would want it if it were for me, but it´s not. For me, that is. Uh. Sorry," he added for not making any sense.

He was quick denying his desire to be an X-man. A younger Shin might have pressed him on that, or suggested he try it. A younger Shin might have told Chris he thought he'd be a fine X-man. This Shin didn't know Chris, though, and the boy had told him up front he had no desires joining. This new and improved Shin didn't force unwilling people into danger. There was always the chance they'd get hurt.
"That's fine," Shin yawned, and Thor followed suit. Shin stifled another one with his hand, cutting it off before they had a yawn symphony. "Oh, sorry. Late night last night," He smiled. "Don't worry about me being offended. Being an X-man isn't for everyone. I wouldn't want you feeling like you had to. Nobody's forcing anyone into that role. It's a tough role to play."
He paused, then changed the subject. "So... do you have any role you're more interested in playing? Pastry chef? Something like that?"
Chris felt a bit awkward when both Shinbo and Thor started to yawn just after he´d given his confusing explanation to why he didn´t want to be an X-man or something like that even though it wasn´t something bad with it. This was the reason why he shouldn´t open his mouth unless he rreally really had to. But then Shinbo explained that it wasn´t lack of interest that had caused the yawning, but rather lack of sleep. "Nobody's forcing anyone into that role. It's a tough role to play." Chris nodded. At first, when he´d just moved in at the mansion and heard about the X-men for the first time, he´d somehow gotten the impression that they were building some kind of mutant army. That had had him worried for a while, but as Shinbo said, nobody was forced to join. Actually, it was a rather exclusive group with not that many members. And the members where well trained, brave and had astounding powers... actually, he could see why no-one had asked him to give it a try yet.
Then Shinbo changed subject and asked what role Chris would be interested in ´playing´ in the future. Chris fidgeted thoughtfully with his hands in front of him. He´d been thinking about that earlier, hadn´t he? But he still had no reply to it. "I don´t know," he said slowly. "But not a pastry cook, that´s for sure. I´m not much for... cake." Somehow he managed to fill that last word with as much disdain as a certain famous TV preacher had pronounced the words "mutant filth" with in a TV show the day before. "No, then I´d rather be a sushi cook or something like that. Or work in a fresh fish shop. Selling fresh, tasty, scrumptious fish..." He stopped, a bit embarrased, realizing that he was to hungry to stand and talk about his future. His stomach started to growl, but he gave it a sharp nudge with his elbows and it turned quiet.

No cake, huh? Well, that was okay. He'd heard some kids singing about something earlier. Cake wasn't factual? Hmm? Had that been it. He couldn't recall. Maybe they simply hadn't believed in cake. They were brownie people and cookie kids.
Shin's mind momentarily drifted to baked goods. Mmm. Then, it snapped back like a tree branch releasing tension at the mention of sushi.
"I love sushi," Shin stated. He counted off types on his fingers. "Spanish mackeral, ahi tuna, abalone, sweet shrimp, fatty yellowtail, eel, with cucumber rolls... yellow round clam. Tofu... maybe even some albacore." His head was spinning with the possibilities. "What's your favorite, Chris? So many kinds!"
