The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Stranger In A Strange City, the mansion days (open
"Im not sure, i have only been in the country a short time, i have only seen one human act poorly to me" she said honestly. Shana had not seen the other incidents, only heard of them but the human had wanted to attack her or so she thought. "I try and stay away from groups of people so, im afraid i don't know much else" she went on as they approached the gates to the mansion. Other then the one time Shana knew it had happoned before, after all the registration act had proven that much one would think.
Shana pressed the Communication button and spoke into it. "hello, I have brought somone with teaching inquirys" she mentioned, unsure how bringing people into the mansion worked. She feared getting in trouble for simply bringing a stranger inside. Shana played with a lock of hair as she waited for a response. The Mansion seemed quite today and she was hoping someone was manning the gate, or she might have to take a risk she would rather not. The woman seemed nice enough to her, but one never knew, she guessed, people could be fickle or could hide themselfs well, their true selfs she meant."Really though, this place is great, no one makes fun of me or even cares im diffrent" she said though she was not convinced of that herself, not her real secret anyway.

A white ball bounced off a white paddle on the black screen with a ping, and ricocheted off the wall down towards a void. Hazel eyes followed the sphere back and forth, back and forth, up and down, side to side to... a voice crackled through the air of concentration. Shin's left hand slipped on the arrow pad. Whoops. The opponent got a point. He tore his concentration away from Pong hesitantly, and with an ounce of regret he replied on the intercom. "I'll be right there. Please wait." Alas, his high score would have to wait as well. Gingerly, he lifted his right arm into the sleeve of a black coat. He tugged it down and smoothed out the bottom with the greatest of care. This was a new jacket, after all, complete with new buttons and a couple shiny pins around the neckline. A red and white polka dotted tie jerked perfectly under his grasp, straightening against the background of white shirt he'd given it to live. His collar was popped, and he was ready. With a spin of the desk chair, Shin exited the office.
As he walked through the halls, he wondered something. Teaching inquiries? He hadn't dealt with this particular aspect of the job before. Strange. Well, he supposed the best he could do was interview her. If he got her name, number, and credentials, he was sure the staff of the school could work their ways up from there. Maybe... as he wheeled a corner, he caught sight of the language arts teacher, a ponytailed-Gypsy man by the name of Chi Hay. The perfect answer to his queries, no doubt! His eyes, they did shine.
"Oh, Chi Hay! I've got a question!" Shin waved his hand like he was in primary school again. The Gypsy smiled at him knowingly.
"Yes?"
"What do we do with people who come to the school inquiring about jobs?" The words felt ghastly once they were out of his lips. Chi Hay blinked at him, and paused. Shin continued on, haphazardly. “Like, is there some specific protocol… or someone I talk to before I interview them…? I was just going to get their name, their resume, and interview them firsthand to hear about their credentials…”
"Jobs...? Who is inquiring? Maybe I could meet them?" Chi Hay asked jovially. Shin nodded hastily, thinking maybe mansion teachers cared so much for who they worked with that maybe, just maybe, Chi Hay wanted to give the inquirer a good look down before they decided if she was Mansion Caliber.
"I'm actually going to meet her right now~" Shin smiled.
Chi Hay frowned. Now apparently wasn’t a good time for him. Maybe some other time? “Ah, well. I actually have a class I’m headed to right now. I think asking for her contact information and credentials is fine. You’d probably want to give that to the headmistress…”
Shin nodded. “Ah, right. Silly of me. I should have figured that. Sorry now’s a bad time for you. Maybe some other…”
Chi Hay nodded graciously. “My apologies. I really must be off. Can’t keep the kids waiting, can I? They just love those stories.” The man smiled. Shin nodded as he took his leave. A moment passed. Shin smiled. That Chi Hay guy sure was nice about it. He glanced offhandedly at his watch. Where did he have to be again?
Oh. Right. Students scattered as one very late Asian rushed towards the main gates!!
“Sorry I kept you waiting!!” He slumped forward against the gate as his hand hit the ‘open’ button. The iron gates swung wide. Shin caught his breath and looked up at the two ladies with a pant. “Got caught talking with the language teacher in the hall.” He added weakly, eyes swinging up to fall on the woman of the two he’d never seen. She was new. “And you are?” He smiled brightly, lifting his right arm forward to attempt a handshake… only to realize that arm was encased in a coffee-stained cast. “Er… heh. Sorry about that.” Cast shifted sideways as left hand struck out for a second attempt. Round Two. “My name’s Shin!”

Indira nodded thoughtfully at Shana's comment. "Staying away from groups of people is one way to deal with it. But you're less likely to get cornered by the vicious ones and pulled down if you're in the middle of a crowd. And eventually you'll probably want to go out shopping, and unfortunately there's not much you can do then to avoid people."
Shana turned and walked up an inconspicuous driveway. Apart from a discreet metal plaque naming the School, there was nothing to set the place apart from others along the road. She pressed the button on an intercom system. "Hello, I have brought someone with teaching inquiries," she said somewhat hesitantly.
A voice crackled out of the intercom in reply. "I'll be right there. Please wait."
Shana let go of the button and stood back. Indira took the chance to look around. The driveway was blocked by a tall, wrought-iron fence, and flanked by a stone wall which wrapped around the grounds. On the other side, Indira could see wide-open grassy lawn, trees, a basketball court...
Shana turned back to Indira. "Really though, this place is great. No one makes fun of me or even cares I'm different."
"That's great," Indira smiled. "Everyone deserves somewhere they belong, and I'm really glad that you've found somewhere you fit. Thanks again for showing me the way over here, Shana." She hesitated. Shana wasn't anything like Kiri, but she still made Indira feel a bit of the older sister. She rummaged through her bag. "Listen, whichever way this job thing goes, I'm going to be in New York for a few weeks. I know we only just met, but if you wanted a 'big sister' to back you up in the crowds and go clothes shopping or something, I've got a cell phone while I'm here. And it'd make me feel better if someone local knows how to contact me if there's a city-wide emergency, eh?" She scrawled her phone number on a scrap of paper and offered it to Shana.
A young man exploded out of the front door of the mansion and ran towards the gates. "Sorry I kept you waiting!!" he puffed as he pressed a button to open the gates. "Got caught talking with the language teacher in the hall."
Oh, they already have a languages teacher... Well, they might still need a dedicated ESL teacher. And speech and reading therapy, well... At least I know I can do it.
"And you are?" The Asian man offered his hand, then seemed to remember that it was in a cast and switched with an apology. "My name's Shin!"
Indira took his hand and shook it firmly. "My name's Indira. It's nice to meet you, Shin."

"That is true, but with any luck that will not matter in a few years" she said with a nod. The woman was right. Alone you could more easily get picked off. Shana knew this, but her fear and kept her from changing herself. "I do enjoy shopping though, actually went out once with a freind" she mentioned with a smile, flattered by the womans concearns. She really was not worth that kind of concern this woman was putting forth.
She was a bit surprised when the woman offerd to go shopping with her and gave her a cell number. She also mentioned it would be good to have somone local able to contact her. It was a nice gesture but she was sure at the very least she would be giving shin, her number on the plication still it shana feel good. She was unsure of the big sister thing, the woman was nice and did seem like she could trust her, but shana could not help but wonder if the woman felt sorry for her. SHana did her best to order her normally conflicting thoughts. "Thank you, it might be nice to meet up" she agreed with a nod of her head.
She as glad to see shin come down and greet them. She had met him a few times before. He had not really kept them waiting long and Shana was happy about that as well, this woman seemed nice and she wanted the mansion to make a good impression on her. Shana still needed to meet some of the teachers who lived here but she was hoping they could find something for her to do. She would not mind indira staying longer at the mansion or nearby. "I should be going, it was nice to meet you Indira" she said waiveing as she walked to the door of the mansion and enterd, leaving them alone.

Some people say language is like a growing tree. With each new conversation topic, sentences branch, find roots. Even now, verb structure struggled in the fresh soil of the moment, pushing out a mild 'nice to meet you too' with a firm handshake. Shin's cursor hovered over three options.
*Ask about self *Ask about credentials *Ask about... tea.
“So tell me… do you like iced tea, Indira?” He tilted his head as he questioned, wheeling an affable smile down from his stockpile as he read the reaction on her face. “I was thinking we could go swing by the kitchens and get something to drink before the interview. Think of it like a secretary asking the applicant if they’d like a Coke. Except this secretary partakes in the occasional glass of tea before interviews, and just caught his breath…”
He glanced at Shana as she started to leave. "Bye Shana." He gave a light wave. It was nice to know helpful people still stuck around. He turned his attention back to the Indian woman for an enlightening addition. "I was thinking interview, tea in the garden? That okay with you?"

"It was nice to meet you too, Shana. Thanks again!" Indira waved to Shana as she left. She hoped things went well for the young woman.
Indira's attention was pulled back to the young man - Shin - as he bubbled over with speech. "I was thinking interview, tea in the garden? That okay with you?"
Iced tea. Oh, that sounds good. Her throat suddenly felt parched. She hadn't realised how dehydrated she'd become on the walk to the School. "That sounds wonderful, thank you."
Indira followed Shin as he led the way. Anxious to avoid an awkward silence, she started asking questions. "I know there's usually a number of students boarding here, but what about the staff? And are there any students who live elsewhere, but come here for lessons?"
Shin grinned. “Tea in the garden it is, then. Like the Mad Hatter’s party, except I’m not wearing a hat.” He swung up his cast professionally to point the way. It took all he had not to march ahead.
The grounds were rarely silent as Shin led Indira towards the front doors. It was too late in the day for the birds to be singing, too early for the students to be running around. He matched pace alongside her, with his left hand on his cast arm, keeping it steady. He turned to face her, walking ahead of the woman blindly as he replied. His left hand rose in a closed fist. With each teacher's name, another digit sprung out to announce the count.
"The mansion has approximately 11 teachers on-staff. There’s Sam, our self defense teacher, and Raina, who teaches Musical arts. We’ve got Bond, who teaches literature, Hazel with the Math, and Miriam with World History... and that’s just counting off on one hand.” He snapped his raised left hand shut and brought up his cast up with a grin... a bit of a disappointed grin, all things considered. He swerved back onto the path a second later, nearly tripping over something on the ground. "We also have Chi Hay, who teaches our language classes, and his wife Rawlie, who teaches Computer Basics… All that’s left after that are our science teacher, religion professor, and the guy who teaches arts and crafts. You shoulda seen what Arnie made last Christmas. I was worried the tree would fall over once he set down that papier-mâché star!”
He spun around to walk ahead of her, hands clasped behind his back. A few big steps towards the front doors, legs snapped together, he turned to face her, face straight as the Mona Lisa’s alignment on the museum wall. “As for students taking classes here, but living elsewhere, it’s more common than you’d think. We don’t require people to board here to learn here. Dormitory living doesn’t rub well with some. There are sure to be a few who live off on their own.”

Shin was very lively. His antics as he named off the teachers at the School made Indira grin. This was the sort of thing she'd been missing the last few weeks - something to make her smile, to lift her spirits... to distract her. A three-year gap in your memory is like a loose tooth - you just can't help poking at it, and it won't help at all. Indira could feel some of the tension seep out of her.
She fumbled a little, but opened the door for them and motioned Shin through. It was only polite to help a bit, and the poor guy had a broken arm. "What about other staff? A doctor, a nurse, a counselor or psychologist? Are there many students right now who aren't from the United States? Or don't speak English very well?"
...Okay, maybe she was going a bit far in the 'pumping for information' thing. But she had to find out what sort of position she should shoot for, didn't she? And it wasn't like she was making insidious plans to destroy the place, she was just looking for a job.
And maybe being stuck in the closet. I can admit it to myself, at least.
It had only been (effectively) a few weeks, after all; according to her parents, it had taken her months the first time around to get comfortable with it. Still, there wasn't any point in letting more people here know about her than strictly necessary.

“Thank you,” Shin smiled as he pressed past her into the main hall. He stepped over the frumpy red carpet that often tripped him, and stopped to answer her question in the center of the room under the glass chandelier. Charles Xavier’s picture hung on the wall nearby, eyes locked dead ahead on Shin’s back… it was almost as if it was watching them. “Doc Prof currently handles the mansion’s infirmary. Alex was recently hired to be his aid. As for counselors… well, Raina seems to help us out whenever someone needs a good listening ear.” Shin paused a second, and tried to hold his chin… but it was a bit awkward with his off hand, so he just looked silly. Did the mansion have any psychologists? He really didn’t know. She’d stumped him. His reply came slowly, almost apprehensive. “I… don’t know …about psychologists, I mean. I don’t think the mansion teaches psychology courses… that’s more ‘college-level’. We just have teachers for grades K-12. As for students with English as a second language…” More foolish chin-holding followed. He looked down at the carpet, biting his lip. Hmmm… his eyes lit up for a moment and he held up a finger, then slowly lowered it and went back to thinking. “We’ve… certainly got a lot of students.” He said after a moment. “And I know some of them have trouble with English. I couldn’t give you any names off-hand, but I can at least tell you that.” He locked eyes with her hopefully. Would that be enough?
“Might I ask which position you’re applying for? Or what you have in mind…?” He suddenly realized they’d already started the interview before he’d gotten them their drinks and frowned. He raised a finger. “Hold that thought. Follow me.” Shin tromped down a side hall and pushed his way into the kitchen. He held the door open for her all the gentlemanly charm in the world.
The kitchen was relatively average. The sort of kitchen one could serve many students in, with a table or two, chairs, and a counter. The fixtures looked to be in good condition, and the whole place was spotless. In front of the kitchen counter, an open counter stood with a bowl of fruit in the center, and some fresh flowers. A bouquet of assorted flowers added color to the room with their reds, yellows, and blues. On the fridge, a few stray drawings were pinned down by magnets. Happy crayon cows and tree frogs danced under a Technicolor sun. Shin swung the fridge door open, and picked up a blue plastic pitcher. He walked over to the table and sat down. Iced tea trickled into a tall green glass.
“Pull up a chair,” He stated, and pushed the glass over to her side of the table. “Now you can answer that question from before. While you’re at it, tell me about yourself.” He finished pouring his own glass and folded his hands in front of him, waiting patiently for her reply.

The mansion was gorgeous, despite the signs of obvious constant use. The carpeting was red and looked as though it had been expensive, once; now it was visibly worn down. Dark wooden panelling - oak, maybe? - accented the walls; it was well-maintained, despite the occasional gouge. Indira could imagine youthful roughhousing and stunts as their source. The chandelier on the ceiling was a spray of delicate glass. Shin paused in the middle of the room as he answered Indira's questions about staff and students. A portrait of Charles Xavier, the driving force behind at least two schools and one of the better-known faces of the mutant community, loomed benevolently behind Shin's head.
He started to ask a few questions, then seemed to remember that he'd promised iced tea and led the way towards the kitchen. Indira wasn't sure what she'd expected - something institutional, she supposed; an impersonal canteen kitchen, serving a communal room of cafeteria tables. Instead, it was... homelike. A number of well-used wooden tables with normal wooden chairs were separated from an upscale and spacious, but otherwise residential-looking, kitchen. Children's crayon drawings were stuck to the large chromed refrigerator with plastic magnets. Shin grabbed a blue plastic pitcher from the fridge and two coloured glasses from a collection of dishes drying on the sideboard, then dropped into a chair at one of the tables. "Pull up a chair," he invited, sliding an invitingly full glass across the table. "Now you can answer that question from before. While you're at it, tell me about yourself."
Indira sat at the indicated chair and thirstily gulped about half the glass before she caught herself. "Sorry, it was a warm walk over." She gathered her thoughts.
"Well, my name's Indira Prashad. I'm from Richmond - that's a city in the Greater Vancouver area. Canada, y'know? So, uh, I would have to get a work visa for an over-the-table job here, but my father - he's a lawyer - he says that having a job offer lined up is a pretty big plus in the process.
"I'm on vacation right now, and I hadn't really thought too hard about where I wanted to get a job next, but a friend of mine attended here about seven or eight years ago - or maybe it was the other branch of the school? I don't really remember. I have to admit it was sort of a spur-of-the-moment decision to come over here today, so I don't have a resumé on me. I can get one whipped up once I get back to my hotel room, if it's needed. I was more sort of wondering what positions might be open, rather than looking for anything in particular.
"I graduated from UBC - that's the Univeristy of British Columbia - in 2006. A bachelor's in linguistics. I focused on language acquisition and speech-language pathology - that's, like, problems with language processing. So I can work equally well with ESL students or students who have reading or understanding problems."
Indira paused awkwardly. "So, um... That was my quick introduction. What other things would you like to know?"

Shin listened carefully, slowly sipping his tea. Indira was from Canada, a college graduate with qualifications for teaching English as a Second Language and helping students with learning problems. The mansion currently only had one teacher to help with the latter, and a very busy language teacher who didn't specialize in ESL. "There's certainly an opening for an English as a Second language teacher at this school..." Shin held his chin. His words chipped away at his own uncertainty with a slow and reasoning tone. "And it wouldn't be too hard to convince the higher ups it's something we need. ESL is a different kind of program than what the language teacher currently teaches... and you say you'd had experience dealing with students with reading or understanding problems? Raina's currently double-booked as our counselor and our music teacher. I'm sure she'd be glad to have a bit of help in teaching students with needs."
"As for further questions, I have only this: What are your opinions on mutants and humans?" They could handle boring resume stuff later. This question would be far more interesting...

Indira relaxed as Shin thought out loud about the feasibility of a position for her. She hadn't realised she was so tense. She hadn't even planned on finding a job yet, and here she was, practically halfway to hired at one of the most famous schools in the world! Indira sat up a little straighter in her seat, feeling warmly proud of herself.
"As for further questions, I have only this: What are your opinions on mutants and humans?"
Indira took a deep breath and let it out slowly. She considered how to frame her thoughts.
"Mutants aren't a different species than quote-unquote 'normal' or 'classic' humans, they're just another variant of the species. Many mutants do have abilities, powers, that qualify them as 'superhuman' compared to the traditional baselines of human ability, but that doesn't make them inherently better, or the 'next step in evolution'. It just means they have the increased responsibility to themselves, to achieve all that they can, and to those around them, to give back to the community and to society. Mutants need to respect the standards of decency and the law exactly as much as humans do."
Indira thought for a moment and continued.
"White people in North America inherit a silent privilege accrued over generations. Heterosexuality is assumed to be 'normal' and therefore 'right' and 'natural'; by extension, anyone who isn't straight is 'wrong' and 'unnatural'. Activists in the people of colour and LGBT communities fight hard to make people realise that these hidden presumptions exist, and to help correct the misconceptions. I think the mutant community needs to do the same thing. For starters, referring to the two groups as 'human' and 'mutant' really, really doesn't do anyone any favours, and it just reinforces the sense of otherness..."
Indira bit her lip. She'd certainly spouted off a lot here. Should she bring up the lawsuit? She didn't want to make herself out to be more than she was. On the other hand, it was something of an accomplishment, even if she hadn't exactly done the heavy lifting. It couldn't hurt, at any rate.
"I have a little experience at the pointy end, too. In high school, I defended a boy who was obviously a mutant. Started getting picked on just the same as him, staff did nothing effective. Ended up going all the way to the courts, in the end. Helps my father's a lawyer. Liu and Prashad vs. Richmond School District No. 38. Got decided in 2004, our favour. School districts are responsible for making a safe learning environment for everyone. Woo legal precedent." She waved her finger in a little circle. "Maybe it'll make some other kids' lives easier, but it was too late to help me and Jiang, at any rate." Time had scabbed over the pain, but Indira still didn't like to remember those days.
She took another drink. Talking so much had made her thirsty.

Once upon a time, Shin had witnessed mutant cruelty in the confines of his elementary school. At that time, he’d not known what to think. Indecision rocked his world. Later on in his life, he made a point to never be indecisive again. ‘If you aren’t sure of yourself, what in the world can you be sure of?’, he reasoned. Time and again, this human bigotry against mutantkind showed its visceral fangs. When his own powers awakened, the people who’d pursued him, so quick to decide death was his only fate, had abandoned that line of thought. They’d kicked in his chest and left him in a grimy alley, bleeding. Even the rats had abandoned him that night. It seemed they’d thought him being a mutant was punishment enough.
History showed this problem’s relevance in society with the mutant registration act he’d been so lucky to have missed. He’d overshot the timeline, hadn’t activated until it had passed. Still, he wondered how he would have fared had his powers been active at the time. It sounded like Hell. Hearing it from people… hearing it from one of his closest friends, Ghost.
That was tough… he liked Ghost. She seemed nice. To think she’d been put in such a place by humans. To think humans had torn down her shop… it tarnished his view of the world.
At the time, when his powers were fresh, not quite tested, her and Arielle and Sam and Streak had been there for him. He’d put on a bold face for the world. Inwardly, he still didn’t know. He hated that feeling. When Ghost’s bookstore, Full Circle, fell as the target of an anti-mutant riot not too soon after his arrival at the mansion… it was hard to think of that time. Seeing the worst of humanity, the best of mutants helping other mutants, he’d felt a connection. A connection he couldn’t break, wanted to pursue. He wanted to help the world… show people what good responsible mutants can do, fight the good fight, do something. Maybe he could be someone’s shining knight in armor of gold? Maybe in this world he could be a Savior in the Dark.
GARO… a laugh edged its way into the back of his mind at the image of the man in blazing gold with the wolf’s head. Maybe not. But the point remained. He couldn’t stand idly by as other mutants’ worlds were torn asunder. He couldn’t let Ghost, or Cody, or Devon, or anyone suffer or be discriminated against. Not if he could help it.
Not again.
Mutants or ‘classic’ humans or however Indira put it didn’t matter. Life was life, and people were people. Even if one group treated another like trash, there were others who’d feel sorry, understand, or try to live good lives and lead by example. The world didn’t have to end with one group defined as higher than another. It didn’t need violence.
To quote Gandhi, “An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.”
And so he agreed with Indira’s first part of her statement. He nodded silently and let her speak.
“That’s true,” He interjected as she continued into her second burst of speech. “People often create terms to demonize their enemies, and create a sense of ‘otherness’ that allows mistreatment to occur. Maybe terms that acknowledge this otherness could be used more sparsely. If people didn’t shirk the blame on the downward spiral in their life and put it to them being ‘mutants’, we’d have more people taking responsibility…” But it would be difficult to get society to change the terms they used to refer to themselves and/or others. He fell silent again, letting her finish.
Shin sensed a bit of bitterness in the last statement. He gulped. It certainly sounded like a fair topic to be bitter upon… “Unpalatable,” He agreed. “But it sounds like you can understand others’ pain. This school’s students have witnessed more than their share. Anti-mutant violence, terrorism, mean-spirited protest… even the US Government’s ‘Mutant Registration’ act set a legal precedent for mutants. One that should have been self-evident from the start. Unnecessary cruelty to a group is unacceptable. An injury to one is an injury to all.”
Shin paused for a second, thinking of what next to say. “Miss Indira…” He started slowly. “What do you think of the statement ‘The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one’?” Ugh. He hated quoting Spock here. It was bunk when Spock said it, and the logic-freak knew. Heartless Utilitarianism was far too pragmatic for Shin’s taste…

"Miss Indira... What do you thing of the statement 'The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one'?" Shin looked at her, waiting patiently for an answer.
Indira had to fight to keep her face reasonably straight. He was quoting Star Trek at her! It wasn't like she was a humongous fan or anything. Still, she'd grown up watching one series or another, and that line was one of those pop-culture things that everyone her age knew. (She was annoyed, though, that scriptwriters kept being confused about the difference between a complete lack of emotions, and the Vulcan ability to acknowledge and then ignore their emotions when it came to decision-making.)
"I'd have to say that that's often true, but in my experience it's just as likely that 'the needs of the few, or the one, outweight the needs of the many'." She finally lost her composure and a fangirlish giggle broke out. Indira managed to get herself under control and continued, although a smile lingered.
"But in all seriousness, human society exists somewhere between those two statements. Like, just because one guy is late to work doesn't mean he gets to run the red lights and go a hundred km/h through a school zone; the rights of everyone else to engage in a fair and equitable sharing of the road partially trump the man's right to get where he's going. And on the other hand, ambulances get the right-of-way because time is critical in medical treatment, and the patient's right to continued survival trumps everyone else's use of the road. Governments, the legal system, all of it - it's there to make sure we keep a balance between the two extremes. Sometimes, it's difficult to keep that balance when it's the majority picking on a minority."
Indira sighed. "...And sometimes, they get pressured into the wrong move, or they don't even try. But nothing ever changes without someone fighting for it, metaphorically or literally."

"A well-balanced and logical response," Shin proudly announced. "You just displayed a keen understanding of our society. It isn't as black and white as the ultimatum. And," A smirk slipped onto his face. "--that giggle tells me you know enough pop culture to have detected a hint of 'Spock' in my question. Sorry, couldn't resist. Bonus points go your way." He swung up his finger in a semi-circle. Shard confetti sprayed. "As far as I'm concerned, you've shown yourself to be Mansion teacher material. I'll talk to the people and see what they say."
"Although, we still never got to that tea in the garden... hmm." He held his chin. Maybe another day...
