The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

James grabbed the keys to his Silver Mustang, glancing at the apartement one final time. There was still a bit of furniture that belonged to the renter, but everything else was gone. Stacked in boxes that were already in the back of the young man's car trunk."Come on Duke it's the last time we'll ever be leaving, I promise." he muttered to the whinning dog that stood beside him. It had only been about a month since James' arrival in New York, and into this tiny place, but it felt weird to be leaving it already. 'I'll still be in New York, where I belong.' he thought, opening the door with a little more strength then intended.
James and Duke walked side by side, until they reached the car, that was parked in the parking lot, where it usually was when he was home. "Get in boy," he said, opening the passanger door. He patted his dog on the head slightly, and then walked over to the other side, sitting in the driver's seat. He was certain Xavier's Institute was the rightful place for him. Ghost and Sara had both shown him that two weeks ago, when he'd met them, both on different occasions. He wondered if he'd ever see Sara again, she seemed like a very good woman.
The journey wasn't long, and with his mind full, he hardly seemed to notice the time fly. His abilities were pretty much in control, he hadn't lost any power over them since the night where he'd first mer Sara, which was good. As for his job, the Bankrupt Car shop was quickly crashing to the ground, and he knew that with the bad economy these days, it wouldn't be long before his job was gone. That didn't bother him all that much though, not really.
Who was bothered, was Mr. Brown, the aging owner of the shop. James knew how much it would hurt the man to lose the place his father had bought while Brown was a teenager. James saw him kind of as a father himself, since he really didn't know much about his own family. The Mansion was in sight now, and rain had started to fall rather heavily, he sighed, clipping on his dog's leash again. "Come on, let's go see if they want us, still." he chuckled slightly.
His car was parked on the side of the road, near the gates of the Institute, and about a minute later, the soaking wet Sense Stealer knocked three times on the door, backing away once, taking in a few deep breaths. No turning back now Kyte, just hope the choice you made is the right one.

Raina had been walking Star when he started yipping and waging his tail like crazy. He pulled on the leash as tightly as he could. "Star! Calm down!" exclaimed Raina giving him a tug back. by Star kept on barking as excited as Raina had even seen him. He pulled and finally the leash pulled loose from Raina's hand giving her rope burn in the process. "Youch!" she pulled her hand close to her as the dog took off.
She only stood for a moment when she realized she wasnt sure if the gate was closed. She did not want Star running into traffic. She wined at the thought and took off running after him. She could see the littl canine but everytime she got close enough to grab the leash he bolted in another direction happily barking his face off the whole way.
It was still a bit slushy out and it was all Raina could do not to fall and get wet. Thank god for water proof sneakers! When she got the little rascal in her sights she let out a blasting note that caused the slush beneath his paws to freeze into a half pipe of ice - that Star had enough momentum to just keep running right over! she was livid now throwing out sporadic notes here and there trying to keep Star in one place.
Of course, she originally had no idea that a young man had just entered the premsis and was waiting at the main door to be let in. That was, until Star smashed head first into his leg after narrowy avoiding an ice call intended to entrap the little bugger.
Raina stood a little slackjawed as she came to a stop next to the makeshift ice cage that was now returning back to slush while her puppy lept around the young mans feet all excited over the presence of another dog. Raina turned as red as her hair. "Oh my gosh..." she groaned. "I am so sorry. I didn't want him to run into traffic" she reached down and snatched up the leash completley mortified. "You look like a prospective student..." she said trying to plaster on a smile but knowing her tone was giving her away. "I'm Raina. I work here." she extended her hand to greet his.
This was the perfect way to meet new people. She reminded herself to trade Star in for a cat.
James stood there for a few moments, trying to think of words to say once the door was opened. Just then however, he realized that Duke wasn't entirely still. He glanced down at the 2-year old Golden Retriever with a desperate look in his eyes, "What's gotten into you?" he asked, tugging at the leash slightly. Duke wasn't usually the type of dog to cause havoc, especially not around many people like this... but James had never really thought of trainning him with other dogs.
He blinked once, feeling someone, or something, hit him in the back of the leg. It took most of his strength for him to keep Duke from licking the puppy, but he didn't have to keep a hold too long, because at that same moment, a woman with brilliant red hair and a rather angry-looking face, appeared from around the corner. James chuckled softly patting his own dog on the head to calm it down a little. Slowly, Duke relaxed, and his intention to play with the younger dog was quickly erased. Now, he only wanted to know why his owner was standing in this weird place with so much people.
"Ah, it's alright. You know how dogs can be sometimes." he said, trying not to give the woman a reason to kill her dog later. "I'm James Kyte, it's nice to meet you Raina." he paused for a brief moment, holding out his hand. "And yes, as a matter of fact, I came to visit the place a few weeks ago with a woman named Ghost, and after a lot of thinking... If I'm still wanted, I would like to give this place a shot." he really hoped he didn't sound to cheesy and formal there.

Raina grinned from ear to ear. "Ah! Ghost. That's excellent. I wonder if we have anyone else in common." she smiled sweetly picking the messy puppy up in her arms pulling her face away as he tried like crazy to lick it. "Maybe your dog here can teach mine some manners." she joked.
"Did Ghost take you on a tour?" she asked. "If not, I can do that or give you a map and you can explore yourself. If you're planning on staying a while there's a few admin things I need to do with you and assign you a room- we can do that now or later so long as it gets done." she explained.
"Kyte." she repeated out loud. "That's an interesting last name."
James smiled back at her, his dog sitting still, though always ready to take action if this woman turned out to want to hurt him. This was starting off perfectly, he wasn't going to do anything to mess this up. "Yeah," he laughed softly, "Maybe, but puppies are like that. Curious, unaware of dangers. I'm sure this little guy will eventually out-grow it." he added, scratching Raina's puppy behind the ear.
Then the matter changed more buisness-like and James nodded, "Yes, she did. She told me a little about this place, but I wasn't entirely sure about making my stay here permenant. I am now, and I think it's for the best." he said. "Anyway, a map may be helpful though. I don't have that good of a memory." he said, chuckling at himself for the pun. Oh, he sure didn't have a good memory.
"If you aren't busy, we could do these things now." he said, stepping back so to let the young woman open the door.

Raina laughed. "Well we can most certainly get started now." she put Star back down on the ground again since he appeared a little more calmed down. She pet his head. "You've had the tour so a map will help. We're really friendly around here..." she began opening the door and leading the way in down the hallway to the offices. Random mutants drifted in and out saying hello to "Miss Raina" and not paying James too much attention. "We're used to people coming and going. " she stopped at once office and opened the door with a key and invited James in. Once inside she reached high on a shelf and pulled down a few papers.
"This here is a newb pack." she said handing him the papers on a clipboard with a pen. "Standard information stuff about you except with a twist. Since you're a mutant I need to know what your mutation is and if you feel it could be harmful to others. It's all confidential and aside from me you can choose who you tell and who you don't... but it's my job to keep the mansion safe. If your mutation can harm people nothing bad is going to happen either. We have plenty of dangerous powers wandering around... we just need to be aware of them. I promise you we wont follow you with a reality TV show camera."
While he got the forms she assembled the rest of the newb pack. "Here's a map. Your assigned dorm for now is here..." she marked a red x and passed him a key. "There's some info packs in here about the accessing the danger room, mansion events and so on."
She paused to give the young man a moment to take this all in.
James fallowed Raina through the familiar Mansion, and then into an office he'd never seen before. Actually' he'd only seen Neena's, and clearly this was a much cleaner space. Duke seemed a bit paranoid however, staying very close to his owner, and sniffing every inch of the room he could reach. He grinned at her, taking the 'Newb Pack' she'd handed to him. He read the basic questionaire, nodding at the questions. "So I fill this in right now? Or would you mind if I took it with me to my room?" he asked, seeing some of the questions may be trouble. He didn't know anything about his past, or where he came from.
He took in the rest of the things she said, watching as she gave him a lot of stuff. "I always believed my Mutation to be dangerous, but I tend to make a bigger deal out of things. If I'm not careful, then it could end up harmful." he said, pausing as he took the map. "I can absorb people's senses -- sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste -- and those absorbed senses will be used to enhance my own. I managed to get good control over it as the years went by, but I do have some times where I forget to concentrate, and some small accidents can happen." he cringed slightly at the memoory of Ghost.
"There's nothing to really worry about, it isn't permenant. After about one to three hours, and most people should have their senses fully restored." he added with a nod, to show he was done talking now. His eyes trailed absentmindedly around the room as he let that information sink in. He stroked his dog, examining the things on the shelves, and then on Raina's desk. "Anything else I should add?" he asked, making eye contact again.

"You can take it to your room. I know it's a lot and if you aren't sure about some of the answers just do your best. Every little bit helps" she said with a smile. She remembered her own attempts to fill out the newb pack. She listened to James explain his power. "Wow. That's amazing." she said in awe. "I wonder if it works on people's abilities? Or what would happen if you used it on someone already lacking a sense?" she blushed a little. "Sorry. My boyfriend is blind." she added. "hits kinda close to home. I wonder what it be like to live like him for a day." she thought reflectively.
"Anyway..." she caught herself again and gave a nervous laugh. "I'm always fascinated with the new mutations I learn about working here. It's good for us to know the limitations you have. But this should all be fine. Go get comfortable and unpacked. There's a few animals slinking around so hopefully Duke we'll make lots of new friends. I'll see you around you can always find me here if you need me." she gave a wave and sent him on his way.
James processed what she'd said about his Mutation. "I haven't gotten that comment a lot." he said truthfully. Well, he'd never really explained his abilities to many people before, so there was a reason why he didn't get the compliment by many. "I haven't done much experimenting with my abilities, but I'd figure it wouldn't afect the sense that's already missing." he said, "Since I can only decrease them, I would presume he or she doesn't have anything to decreasee." he hoped that made a tiny bit of sense... it did to him at least.
James grinned at her, "Well, it was really nice meeting you!" he said with a shrug, "I'll drop this off once I'm finished -- Come on Duke." he said, tugging at the leash. The two dogs seemed to have quickly become friends, and it was almost funny that the huge Golden Retriever didn't want to leave. With one last wave of his free hand, and the Newb Pack under the leash-arm, he left the Office, fallowing the map towards his new room.
