“Somebody! Get his butt into lock up, now!” Jorge groaned as he attempted to detach himself from what looked like a giant Jell-o mold. That’s right…Jell-o.
Just another day at the Mutant Related Crimes division of the NYPD. Jorge Cervantes, a water-bending police detective, shook his head as he attempted to crawl out of the mass of the wiggly green goo that, surprisingly, had not been there before. His coat, his shirt and pants were all sticky now, goopy and moist from being caught inside Jell-O…and smelling of lime! He grunted as he attempted to swat some away, while he looked over the office. This was certainly a mess that the clean-up crew will enjoy.
Daven Greenwood was a petty thief. A rap sheet as long as his arm that continued numerous accounts of purse snatchings, pick pocketing, vandalism, etc. You name it, and the delinquent child had performed it. Some say it was because his father left he was born, others say it was because his mother worked three jobs and did not pay attention to him, and still others swear up and down it is because his brother introduced him into his life of crime and too to it like a fish to water. Whatever the case, whether they be abandonment issues, negligence, or community, the kid got himself into a plethora of trouble. Today was going to add to it.
Normally the MRC would not deal with a case like his, but lately, strange things were coming from the kid’s usual cases. There was evidence of Jell-o constantly at the scenes of his crimes. At first they thought it was simply that the kid had the munches at the wrong times…but that was not the case. Daven was creating the Jell-o, at first unintentionally, then on purpose in order to serve as distractions to help him better rob people. Of course that was when they hauled him in for questioning. Apparently the 18 year old, did not appreciate his being with the cops today. Before Jorge knew it, in the middle of questioning him, a giant slab of Jell-o began to form around his mid-section.
Unfortunately the kid was so new at creating molds that large that he passed out. Which was why Jorge growled and snapped that the kid be put in lock up…and was now attempting to swim through Jell-O.
“Ugh…this stuff is disgusting,” Jorge groaned as he finally stepped out of the last of it.
One of the officers chuckled as he looked at the stained up detective. “What’s the matter? You don’t like Jell-O?”
Jorge arched a brow as he flicked off the last of the wiggly goo from his pant leg. “Hey, that kid created that stuff from the air. You want to be brave enough to eat it,” Jorge grabbed a handful that was still clinging to his hair and offered it to him, “Then by all means, pull up the whipped cream.”
The officer held up his hands defensively and began to back away. Jorge gave them an “I’m-watching-you” look before he tossed the Jell-O into the large slab of it that was already wiggling mockingly near his desk. He shook his head as he took a step and immediately felt the squish in his shoes. This was definitely not turning out to be a good day. He sighed and made way towards the locker room.
As he headed out, he spied the cleaning crew and pointed them towards the MRC office. “It’s in there. Don’t eat any of it.” He sighed as he disappeared into the locker room to change into something a little less…Jell-O stained. He was not going to be in a good mood today…he could already tell. Hopefully the memo could get out so that no one else will bother him.
This was a stupid idea. Katrina knew it was a stupid idea, and yet she felt compelled to do it anyway. This army Eros had put together (even now she smiled out of affection for the kindness of the man) had its requirements (stupid ones) that each member prove him or herself devoted to the cause. It was a good cause, saving the world from future destruction. That, she didn't object to. It was this proving it she didn't much like. She didn't understand how sneaking into a police station and stealing some cop's coffee mug was going to prove anything about saving the world.
And yet, stupid as it was, here she was: slipping in through the door invisible behind someone with a security badge, thinking how stupid this was. Here she was watching the saga of the green jell-o goblin unfold from the relative safety of a (withering) potted plant sheltered corner, thinking some should take the time to water it once in awhile. Here she was, watching a stubbly cop growl about whipped cream and leave to go find a clean shirt (or whatever he was doing), and thinking that as long as he was distracted now would be a good time (as good as any, that is) to move in for the mug.
She silently, invisibly, slipped out from behind the plant and tiptoed toward the desk. She was careful not to touch any of the wiggling goo, as she didn't want to give herself away. The only thing stupider than this mission would be to get caught doing it. Especially since Shin and Ghosty sometimes worked here and might tell her mom what she was up to.
She reached the back of the desk (it was less jell-o-y than the front) and carefully, carefully, (carefully) reached out toward the mug handle.

The clean-up crew rushed into the MRC offices and immediately spied all the green Jell-O chunks that were everywhere. This was going to be a completely sticky mess and one that nobody was looking forward to clean up. Still, it was entirely taking up too much room so it needed to be done. There would be no going home until it was. So, with heavy hearts, the clean-ups began their work.
Brooms swept, mops were soaked, and trash bags were starting to be filled. There was nothing but a grand mess everywhere. But slowly, piece by piece it was beginning to be cleaned up.
“Yo,” one of the officers said as he walked by one of the cleaners. “Did you see Cervantes’ coffee mug?”
The cleaner nodded over to the desk. They were nearly there now, scrubbing as much of the Jell-O off the tiled floor as possible.
“Oh, thank god,” the man said with a sigh. “The bear has been poked and he needs his fix if we expect to live the rest of the day.”
The officer nodded thankfully to the cleaner and quickly scooted over. Leaning over the Jell-O strewn desk, he grabbed the coffee mug from the top and looked in to see a big glob of the green goo inside. Holding it up, he pulled it close to his chest, as if it were a missing child and carried to towards a sink in the back of the office.
“Come on, guys. T-minus five minutes before Cervantes gets back. Don’t need him exploding at us,” he said as he immediately poured the contents into sink and began to scrub it out. It was not that the whole office was scared of the detective. They were only scared of him when he did not have his coffee.
*** Jorge sighed as he stood in the locker room and peeled off the shirt that was now stained with goo from his entire midsection down. This was a day that was going to go down in the record books. Who would guess that today he would have walked into the office, only to later find himself stuck in Jell-O? It was absolutely insane. Of all the things to have imagined that could happen to him, that was definitely the farthest away from his list to the point that it was not even ON the list. The man shook his head as he tossed the ruined shirt aside and undead his belt and slacks as well. As he did, he grabbed a spare set of clothes from his locket and headed over to a nearby sink.
Staring at himself in the mirror, Jorge sighed as he clutched the edges of the porcelain. He knew he needed to get a hold of himself. He was far too angry at the incident to let that define the rest of his day. It made no sense. Besides…the more he thought about it, truly the funnier it got. In a way he got to experience what a chunk of fruit feels when shoved into a Jell-O mold.
The detective scoffed as he turned on the water and simply shook his head. What a day. Sticking his hands underneath the cool flow of water, he cupped some out and began to manipulate it so that it floated out into a globule of floating liquid. A twitch of his fingers and it floated up to him and began to wash away any of the stick green residue. He was definitely taking a shower the second he got home.
The mug was whisked out of her grasp by a plastic gloved hand attached to an arm longer than her own. Hand outstretched, Katrina wobbled precariously over a jell-o coated office chair. She had been so close.
The clean up crew was quicker than she had expected and before she could so much as retract her hand the mops, brooms, dustpans, and even one snow shovel started their work. Suddenly the game of grab-the-mug became a game of dodge-the-mop. The little illusionist was reminded of all the silly obstacle courses students had to do in the danger room to avoid unlikely booby traps swinging at them from every angle. She had never thought those exercises would come in handy until now.
It was too bad she had skipped that lesson each and every time they had it.
Katrina ducked a mop here, sidestepped a broom there, carefully placed a foot in a clear floor space, then leaned back (so far back that even Neo would have been proud) to avoid flying jell-o tossed from the snow shovel toward a waiting garbage bag. She thought she was doing pretty well considering she didn't have much experience with this sort of thing. Then she saw it.
A globule.
It was falling.
Her stomach.
It was in the pathway.
Katrina scrunched up her invisible face and the globule vanished into invisibility. Unfortunately that did not mean it vanished into non-existence. It was difficult enough to retain her limbo posture, but the added weight and surprise of the moist goo hitting her stomach made her teeter ever so slightly farther back. (And she was already leaning pretty back.) Her arms swung around automatically to help her regain her balance and...

Jorge sighed as he finished washing off the last of the gunk from his body. Once that was done, he proceeded to redress himself in a fresh set of clothes he usually kept in the locker for emergencies. And being trapped in a giant, wiggly, green Jell-O mold was definitely an emergency to him. Forced to abandon the cheap suit he came to work dressed in, Jorge now resorted to a pair of dark jeans, a navy blue shirt and his brown bomber jacket. After he attached his badge to his belt, the detective sighed as stuffed his suit into a bag. He’d had to see if it could be dry cleaned. He doubted it.
So, finally allowing himself to feel slightly better about the day, Jorge turned and made his way out of the locker room. His footsteps clicking like thunder on the tiled floor, Jorge returned to the division office to see that the clean-up crew was nearly done. They definitely worked fast.
“Hey, Cervantes,” an officer said as he finished pouring coffee into the detective’s freshly clean mug. “Poured you another cup!”
Jorge arched a brow to the mug that was offered to him. “Uh…okay. Thanks. You…You don’t you didn’t have to do that, you know?”
“Oh, my pleasure! Besides, you didn’t want that glob of Jell-O to stain the interior.” He beamed as he backed away.
Jorge shook his head as he began to head back to his desk. He still did not know why that officer was jumping to do everything for him. He knew that performance evaluations were coming up so the rookie must have wanted a good review. Unfortunately Jorge was not really the man to turn to for something like that. His opinion mattered around the offices, but he was not going to be called in for evals this time. Hmm…maybe he should have mentioned that to the kid.
“Here ya go, Cervantes!” the rookie said as he ran across the room and handed over a set of files. “Here are some of your cases for the day!”
Jorge sighed and nodded, trying to plaster on a thankful smile. The kid was definitely working his last nerve now. “Gratefully” he took the items offered to him and slipped away from the way overly eager kid. This definitely could not last long. Maybe he could get him to run his dirtied suit to the dry cleaners! That would definitely save him a trip or two.
As Jorge thought this through though, he made back for his desk, stepping over the wet spots and keeping to the freshly swept areas. Along the way, Jorge read the latest from his case files and casually sipped at his hot coffee. Up ahead though, only mere steps away, he, of course, could not see the invisible young mutant that had invaded the office and now found herself caught in an awkward posture. Had he been able to see her he would have stepped aside, or at least offered his assistance to straighten her up.
But…that was not the case. Jorge could not see her, therefore he could not offer. Instead, the busily reading detective made straight for her just as he tipped his mug for another sip of the coffee.
...she was stuck. She had to put an arm back to catch herself, and then was sort of stuck there. There was no where else to put a hand down to right herself from this crazy twisted position she had ended up in, not without disturbing the remainder of the jell-o and giving herself away. On the other hand, she couldn't stay this way forever; her abs were already starting to shake. She usually shortchanged herself on the required number of sit ups in gym, too.
To make matters worse, the cop was back at his desk, no, walking around to this side of the desk where Katrina was bent over backwards. He couldn't step here! Didn't he realize there was still jell-o? Katrina swiveled (as best she could) to look and realized that she had accidentally made this entire section of jell-o invisible. If she were a super-ninja she totally could have back flipped her way out of this mess. Could have. If.
The best she could manage was a sort of drop and roll to get out of his way. She sort of hit his foot with her foot, but it was better than a full on collision. Also, she now had jell-o all up and down her back. She dropped the invisibility of the floor jell-o just as she ducked under the detective's desk and peered out to watch what would happen next.

Jorge shook his head as he headed for his desk, seeing that most of the Jell-O was gone from there, but disliking the case files. So far many of his cases were coming up with dead leads or simply lost in the shuffle of everyday life. This was not going to make anyone’s day good. He just could not understand it. There was a string of disappearances of mutants lately, but where were they all going? It was not blatant, thankfully, it was still enough to slip under the radar of the local news, but families were calling in about their missing mutant children, siblings, spouses, etc.! Where the hell were they all?
He sighed as he read a file about a young girl who could walk through walls and her disappearance as he just about arrived at his desk. He definitely needed a sit down. But…all those hopes vanished the second he tossed the files onto his desk and nearly jumped back. Something had caught his attention by tapping his shoe, but as he looked down, he was slightly shocked. More Jell-o?!
“Whoa!” Jorge nearly tripped as he practically stepped in and slipped on another huge chuck of the wiggly goo. “I could have sworn that was not there before,” he muttered to himself.
Shaking his head he turned and shouted over to the crew.
“Yo, guys,” he announced. “Think you missed some over here.”
The detective maneuvered around the goo as he returned to his chair. He leaned down and patted the cushioned seat and felt no Jell-O there. He was not going to take any more chances. Once the all clear was met, Jorge reclaimed his seat and sighed as he rolled his chair up closer to the desk. Gently he began to tap his shoe on the tiled ground as he sipped his coffee and read another file. But, he noticed something strange as he was tapping his foot. It was always as if he were stepping on something soft, yet hard. Like…it was chicken wings, or tiny girl fingers or something.
With a confused look on his face, he pulled back a little in his chair and peeked under his desk…there was nothing there. His brow arched as he peered closely and saw absolutely nothing there, just the sticky tiles and a splotch or two of Jell-O under his dark, wooden desk.
“Huh…” he muttered before he pulled back into his desk and began to tap his foot again. “Weird day.”
Katrina pulled her fingers out from where he was tap tap tapping and tried to brainstorm a way to get her sticky self out of this situation. She wanted to keep a low profile, so something like making it seems as though the fire alarm was going off wouldn't quite work.
While she considered her predicament, the cop just kept sipping his coffee. Sipping and sipping and shuffling papers.
It gave her an idea; she wasnt' sure it would work, but it was worth a try.
Katrina concentrated on a familiar feeling. One that every single person felt from time to time, especially after drinking a lot of caffeinated beverages. One that made the sound of running water unbearable. One that could disrupt even the most banal of dreamscapes with toilets that appeared like mushrooms when the dreamer wasn't looking.

“Yes ma’am…yes ma’am…” Jorge said as he spoke into the phone and had another of the missing person’s files splayed out on his desk. “No, I understand that it’s been two days…yes…yes ma’am, we’re doing everything that we can…”
The detective shook his head as he pulled a pen from his pencil holder and began to jot down whatever notes he could get from the agitated woman on the phone. He understood, he really did, that it was difficult for a parent when their child suddenly picks up and vanishes. But if there was one thing that he did not need was being yelled at and told that he was not doing his job. Jorge was devoting the majority of his time to these cases because he knew they were being missed. He did not take it lightly.
Apparently other people thought he did.
The woman was still agitated and try as Jorge might, there was little he could do to calm her. Instead he would have to take her name calling and anger and just keep telling her to hold on. He really was doing the best he could.
With a sigh, he nodded as he jotted down more notes and looked over the file of the missing person. The victim was a young teenager, a girl with the ability to chew through anything. She was young, pretty and there could be a multitude of reasons as to why she was not around right now; none of them made him comfortable with thinking about. He prayed that this was just some tantrum and that she was okay, secretly living with a friend and in perfect health…
…but chances were slim.
“Yes,” he replied as he took another drink of coffee and jotted down more notes. “Yes…I understand. No…No we’re not going to stop…”
He began to tune the woman out though, but as he did he immediately felt a strange, yet similar sensation. It was uncomfortable and urging but…he didn’t drink that much coffee did he? Then, as if in answer to his question, his body responded with more discomfort. This was really turning into the strangest day!
He cleared his throat as he spoke into the phone once more. “Ma’am, rest assured we’re doing all we can. Yes, we are. We’ll keep in contact, bye!”
That last part was said so fast that Jorge was sure the woman could scarcely understand him. But he could not ease the sensation much longer. With a sigh the man stood from his desk, and left the files behind. He needed to get to the bathroom now. As he turned to leave though, he cast a glance at his coffee mug, the contents and realized that really he did not want the rest of it.
Plucking his mug up from the table top, Jorge headed towards the office kitchen. There he would drop off his mug in the sink before he ducked into the bathroom to take care of business. Why wasn’t the day over yet? he thought to himself as he carried his Miami Dolphin’s mug with him.
Katrina had to hold her feet with her hands to keep them from tapping impatiently and giving away her position. Why couldn't he just hang up? Come on.... come on... pretty soon she would have to go too badly to stay cooped up under here, whether the cop was still in the way or not.
Finally!
Katrina scooted out from beneath the desk the moment she had an inch of room. Quickly, she glanced around, looking for the mug, hoping to grab it before dashing off to the bathroom. All that thinking about waterfalls...
There is was. Waiting for her, still half full on the desk.
It didn't wait long enough, though. The policeman didn't take two steps before he reached for his mug.
If he couldn't even go to the bathroom without his coffee... this guy had a problem.
Katrina crossed her legs as she watched him walk off. In his hand the mug swayed ever so slightly. The dolphins. They grinned at her. So mockingly.
For the moment, she didn't care. She had to go to the bathroom first.

Jorge growled a little as he carried his coffee mug to the office kitchen. The sludge inside from his coffee had already gone cold and, to be honest, it really was not the best cup of coffee to begin with. It was simply better to toss out the rest and grab a new cup the second that he could.
Once inside the kitchen, the badly tiled floor, the bulletin board with many types of personal notices, softball team sign-up, expired coupons, Jorge made his way to the sink and dumped the contents. He watched the much too dark liquid as it swirled and made its way down the drain to join the mass of fluid that it was probably born from. He sighed as he turned on the water and began to wash out his favorite mug.
Even as the water ran over his hands though, Jorge got that urge that he really needed to use the restroom now. Sighing, he dried his mug quickly, but just as he was about to turned and put it in the cupboard, he was immediately stopped by a chilling sight. Standing behind him was the blonde, high voiced receptionist, Cynthia. Her blond hair tied into a bun, her horn-rimmed glasses, and that annoying gum she always chewed were standing there, looking expectingly up at him.
“Hiya Jorge!”
“Gaah! Um, I mean,” he got himself under control. “Hi Cynthia. What’s up?”
“Oh nothing. Just wondering if I could ask you a favor…”
Jorge nodded as he tapped his foot anxiously. Why wasn’t she gone yet? Why the hell was she always talking with that high-pitched, voice that immediately made him think of water firing out of a firehose…wait, what was that last one? That didn’t make any sense? But it didn’t need it. It was Jorge’s need to go that was slowly over taking his mind. Pounding, pressurizing him maddening levels. It was finally when he was towards the end of his rope that he made himself focus.
“What?”
“So…is it okay?”
“Oh, yeah sure. See you later Cynthia!” Jorge quickly excused himself and disappeared down the hall towards the restrooms.
“Yay! You’re the best, thanks!” She replied. What he didn’t see behind him was Cynthia beaming, annoyingly gnawing on her gum and picked up Jorge’s beloved Miami Dolphin’s mug and disappear around another corner. “He’ll be so surprised,” she grinned to herself.
As Jorge high tailed it down the hall, he came across the restrooms and immediately spied that one of them was closed for repairs. He hoped, he PRAYED it was not the Men’s room since the nearest restroom after that was upstairs. As he came closer though…he sighed in relief. That Woman’s restroom was closed to repairs.
“Thank the lord,” Jorge mumbled as he pushed open the door and stepped inside. At least sweet relief was coming; though…he did feel bad for any females that needed to use the restroom at right about now.
With no other bathroom in sight, the invisible little illusionist had no other choice.
The men's room it was, then.
After a quick glance around to make sure no one would see a door moving on it's own, Katrina ducked inside. There were two urinals (eww) and one toilet. Thankfully the room was unoccupied. Katrina ducked into the stall and locked the door behind her. She was a moment away from hiking her skirt and sitting down when she heard the door open again.

The sight of tiles and white porcelain to a man in need of using the restroom can be akin to bliss. The cold, sterile restroom, the scent of it actually being cleaned just released a sense of euphoria in the man’s head as soon as he walked in. The knowledge that soon whatever discomfort he had would disappear just made him all that happier. It was when he walked in that the detective immediately made his way over to one of the pair of urinals and –

Jorge moved over to the sinks, turned on the water faucet and immediately stuck his hands underneath the cold flow of water. He immediately felt better. In silence he gathered what was left in the soap dispenser and began to scrub his hands clean. For at least a good minute the detective remained still in front of the sink, letting the water course over his hands. He rinsed the last bit of the soap off, grabbed a paper towel to dry when suddenly the door to the men’s room opened a crack.
“Ugh…H-Hello? Anyone here?”
Arching a brow, the detective immediately recognized the voice and smirked a little. “Hey Gausman,” he said. “I’m here,”.
“Cervantes? Um, anyone else?” Slowly the portly Detective Gausman stepped into the room. Dressed in his cheap brown suit, the dark skinned man’s face was flushed red as he dabbed at the sweat that dotted his forehead. He looked…incredibly uncomfortable, and a little irritated that the detective was here.
“Naw, it’s just me,” he said with a smirk as he tossed the used paper towel in the waste bin. “You alright?”
“Ugh…N-Not really…” the man grumbled as he waddled in, looking even more ill at ease. “I…you know…”
“Ah…yeah,” Jorge said uncomfortably as he scratched the back of his own head. “Pepe’s Burrito Stand again? Gausman, we warned you about that place.”
“I..I know! But…it’s so good!”
Jorge shook his head as he began to head for the exit. “Yeah but you keep it up and your wife is going move you to your couch permanently. Sorry man, those…those are real foul…”
“Yeah, yeah, don’t need to hear it from you too.” Gausman said as he looked to make sure all the stalls were empty. “Um, could you lock the door on your way out?”
“Yeah,” Jorge said with a chuckle as he opened the door and slipped out, hitting the lock button on the other side. Not a moment too soon. Before he knew it, he heard that offensive sound and shuddered at it. Thank god he left when he did. “Via con dios,” Jorge prayed as he closed the lock door behind him and headed back to the MRC office.
If that cop guy was trying to make a favorable impression on invisible stalkers, he was failing miserably. Did he really have to wash his hands for a whole minute? It felt like ten to a girl who was particularly disturbed by the sounds of running water at the moment.
And then.
And.
Then.
He went and let in some guy with Post Burrito Stress Disorder and locked them in together. Katrina had thought that the constitution had a rule against cruel and unusual punishment. She hadn't even done anything wrong. Yet.
That's it, she decided as she was forced to duck and roll under the wall of the stall, that coffee cup was going down.
The burrito guy wasn't paying much attention, so she felt safe letting herself out the door. On the other side she took a big gasp of fresh air. She did not remember to re-lock the door. If someone walked on in PBSD guy, it was all on the cop guy's head.
She looked longingly at the women's bathroom that was closed for repairs. A sign she hadn't seen before directed her to go upstairs, down a hallway, turn left, then right, then left again in order to find it.
-A short time later-
Katrina felt much better now. As she walked back into the Mutant Related Crimes office, she glanced around to see where the Dolphin's coffee cup had gotten to. She knew that she could just grab any coffee mug to complete her mission, but now she wanted that one. In particular.

At his desk, Detective Cervantes immediately got back into the swing of his work. More calls were coming in but thankfully it seemed as if people were beginning to taper off. That last call he just got the man was extremely nice. He was only worried about his missing son. Of course he was just another in a long line of mutant’s already missing. Then again, most of these cases were fairly recent so it could all be chalked up to paranoia. Jorge was sure that at least a number of these would end up returning home of their own accord, either after a night of partying or visiting a friend. Then again, it was probably a good thing that the police were called. Better safe than sorry, you know.
He sighed as he hung up another phone and shook his head. Another day or so of this and they would have a full blown panic. Mutant groups will be announcing that their kind were being kidnapped or killed, etc., while anti-mutant groups would announce that mutants were merely trying to make them look bad. It was going to be a very long day…
A glance to the clock showed that it was not even close to leaving for the day yet. He really would have rather been out in the streets. Not because it’s more action packed or anything, but simply to be out, maybe stop a petty crime or two. Sometimes just the presence of police officers in the streets tended to stem crimes. But being cooped up in the office all day did not help either.
“Oh…god…” Clemens, another of the MRC detectives groaned as he stumbled into the office, shaking his head.
“What’s up?” Jorge asked as he arched his brow.
“Man, was Gausman in the bathroom again?”
Jorge smirked and nodded his head. He was about to explain what had happened when suddenly the oddest sight caught his attention. The movement was small, almost unnoticeable, but Jorge happened to be looking at the right spot at the right time. Standing at the entrance of the MRC office…was his coffee mug. And yes…it was standing. Jorge, his mouth open in surprise, stood from his desk and watched as his Miami Dolphins mug actually stood on two, tiny legs that protruded from its underside. Slowly it turned and, bumping into a wall, began to soundless jump up and down in anger.
“…the hell?!” he exclaimed as he moved around the desk.
This immediately caught his mug’s attention which caused it to jump in surprise, run and take off running down the hall. Jorge shouted “That’s my mug!” and began chase. But, even as he ran out into the main room chasing his mug, he skidded to a halt. In the main break room, everything from forks, spoons, plates, chairs, napkin holders, they were all running around in complete pandemonium! And in the middle of all this mess stood Cynthia who was trying to calm down a small crying boy, his eyes flashing blue.
“Cynthia!” he yelled as he ducked from a divebombing leaflet. “What the hell is going on?!”
“I-It’s my nephew!” she yelled back, over the loud noises of forks and spoons attempting to do battle with one another. “He’s a mutant! I can’t calm him down!”
“Why did you–?” He stopped mid-sentence when a small coffeetable went barreling directly towards him. “Whoa!” He jumped aside and nearly crushed an angry plate. The plate then started to nudge against his foot, trying to fight him. Casually Jorge kicked it aside. “Cythnia! Calm him down!!”
“I can’t! His parents are divorcing!!”
“OH, for the love of…” he paused when he saw dancing on the other side of the room with a bottle of Jack Daniels that had been hidden, his coffee mug, “…god…”
