The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Another one of those superhero movies-- this one was called "Chronicle", and it looked really good, judging by the commercials. Maybe... a little too intense for Ginas' tastes, but a superhero movie was a superhero movie-- Gina had to see it. Yet when she proposed such an outing to her friends, no one seemed sold on it. Those who hadn't seen it were blatantly uninterested-- superhero movies weren't their thing, action movies were too shallow for them, bla bla bla-- and those who had were poor high school students who couldn't afford to see a movie in the theaters more than once, unless their parents lived in the City.
Though one particularly helpfully friend of hers-- a boy named Tyler, who was more renowned around Xavier's as a trickster of sorts, who was in good favor with Gina-- he'd already seen the movie "a ton of times", but helpfully informed Gina that his best friend hadn't seen it yet.
Gina had enough insight to ask Tyler who his friend was, fearing that perhaps it'd be a guy like Hokee, who hated her guts. At that rate, she'd never get to see Chronicle. It simply... wasn't fun to go to the movies alone.
"Oh, his name is Darren," Tyler said coyly, a twinkle in his eyes, "He's an elastic guy."
"I know him," Gina avowed, grinning. He was a guy of few words, but he was alright. She wouldn't mind taking him to the movies at all, "That'd be a lot of fun. You wouldn't mind... mentioning that to him? Would you?"
"Not at all," the little imp replied.
In the few hours that transpired, the young gargoyle looked at movie times, and grabbed a bag that was big and surreptitious enough to smuggle food into the theaters in. It wasn't a date, per se, so she kept the clothes casual. Jeans, and a crewneck t-shirt that proclaimed, "Representing the Street", and sported a grid of a half-dozen Sesame Street characters along with the the announcement. She had enough money for two tickets (if need be) and snacks. With everything in order, she then went to the boys' wing of the dormitory.
Tyler had told her the room number, or alleged room number, of Darren. Gina found her way to the room, and stood outside of the door uncertainly. Maybe she should have asked beforehand in-person. That would have been a smart idea. But... Darren had been pretty quiet when he'd been dragged into Rebecca's party, so he probably would have declined. This was much more on-the-spot. He was shy, he needed to get out of his room and get socialized. Gina was only too happy to help. The little gargoyle knocked upon the dormitory door, and hoped to God that Darren was in.
Once she knocked, she stepped back, thumbs pocketted casually in her jeans pockets.
Darren had been laying on his stomach, web browsing on his Mac, when he heard the knocking. Right outside his door, someone was rapping their knuckles or foot or something against his door, inquiring after him. And this wasn’t just any sort of knocking, it was polite knocking. Not the loud, banging kind obnoxious teenage boys usually left. Which meant it probably wasn’t one of his friends…but who else would want to visit him…?
No. Freaking. Way.
…there was no way Tyler had been telling the truth. Just a couple hours ago, Darren had been hanging out with said troublemaker in the kitchen, scavenging through the cupboards for snacks of the cheesy variety, when he brought up Gina, again.
“Bro, I was talking to Gina today, and she totally wants you.”
Darren choked on the goldfish cracker he had been in the process of swallowing, and replied with spluttering and coughing, before forming coherent words. “W-what?! Dude…just stop.” He didn’t understand why the other boy had to bring the Ginagoyle up so much, and with such insinuations! His cheeks reddened at Tyler’s words and he rolled his eyes at the stupid, slightly-suggestive grin adorning the trickster’s face.
“I’m serious! She specifically told me she wants to go to the movies with you! That Chronicle movie you wanted to see so badly. Brosif, now is your chance to…you know…” Tyler made a kissy face and nudged Darren with his elbow. The elastic mutant resisted the urge to smack his friend, and continued to munch on goldfish, not deigning to respond to the topic any further. He’d been down this route with Tyler before; he wasn’t going to fall for it again.
And that is why Darren never imagined Tyler could have actually been serious! Back in the present, the teenager scrambled off his bed. “J-just a minute!” he called, his voice cracking in the process. He dashed over to the mirror and checked his reflection. His hair was okay, deliberately tousled with gel like usual. He took a second to sniff his quirky band t-shirt, not remembering if it was clean or not. It smelled okay…Just to be sure, he grabbed a can of Axe off of his vanity and gave himself a quick spritz, careful not to overdo it (although he may have, anyway). The teenager smoothed out the creases in his clothes and took a deep breath before strolling over to the door and opening it to the girl on the other side. Although he had been half-expecting her, his eyes still widened in surprise and his cheeks instantly blushed.
“H-hey…what’s up?” he stuttered, awkwardly leaning against the doorframe. He took a second to admire Gina’s cute shirt and observe the large-but-inconspicuous bag. It looked like she was ready to go out somewhere. Like the movies… That goddamn Tyler. “Ah, I-I mean, Tyler told me about your plans…” He purposely kept his words vague, just in case his friend had indeed been “exaggerating” again, and Gina was at his door purely by coincidence. But then he took a leap of faith. “I…I’m ready to go, if you are.” He looked at the ground, rubbing the back of his neck in a timid, embarrassed fashion.

Gina lingered by the door uncertainly, subconsciously fussing with her hands. She should have given him more forewarning. What if Tyler didn’t pass the word along? Or what if he did? That had to have seemed so inconsiderate, to just casually mention to a friend to tell another friend that you wanted to go to the movies with them—Gina should have just told him herself. There was minor shifting and bumping around within the room, and a muffled cry of,
>> “J-just a minute!”
“No problem,” Gina hollered back. At least Darren was there. What would have been more dismal was if Darren hadn’t been present, and Gina would have had to go to the movies on her own, or even worse, not go to the movies at all. Gina fussed with her hands more, but she paused and let her hands drop when the door swung open.
What fortune, the little imp Tyler had even given her the proper room.
>> “H-hey…what’s up? Ah, I-I mean, Tyler told me about your plans… I…I’m ready to go, if you are.”
Tyler was even true to his word, too. Of all the dumb luck. He wasn't a spiteful sort, wouldn't send Gina over to the boys' wing just to have her bee absolutely broadsided by an unsuspecting Darren. But... you never knew.
“I should have asked you in-person,” Gina said apologetically, “But I was, uh, talking to Tyler today, and I mentioned in-passing that I wanted to go see Chronicle to him. And he said you did too.”
Just as a point of clarification, lest Tyler and his warped little mind decided to warp the story.
“And going to the movies by yourself is a total, drag…” Gina paused, still all smiles and wholly unaware of Darren’s awkwardness or its causes. She wrote it off as him just being shy. Shy Boy needed to get out and have some fun. Gina was merely an accessory to socialization.
Even though Darren said he wasn’t too busy now, Gina opted for the more polite route of making it an offer, “If you aren’t too busy right now… I’m ready.”
She chuckled faintly. Was this too pushy, too insistent? Why did she care, anyways? He'd already agreed to it. But-- well, she didn't want to force anyone into going to the movies with her. Gina wanted to establish that it was his call.
>> “I should have asked you in-person. But I was, uh, talking to Tyler today, and I mentioned in-passing that I wanted to go see Chronicle to him. And he said you did too. And going to the movies by yourself is a total, drag…”
“Oh, no, it’s no problem,” Darren quickly said when he heard the apology in Gina’s tone. There was absolutely no need for her to feel sorry about anything. If anything, he felt bad that she had to go to the movies with such a sad sack guy like him…
Wait.
A girl and a boy going out together…This wasn’t a date was it?! Because then he was completely unprepared, emotionally and socially and in every other way! His face became blank as his entire internal being panicked. His mind raced to see if he had enough money on him to pay for Gina, and if she even expected him to pay, and if she wanted to get popcorn, and if popcorn in his teeth would be completely unattractive, and—
>> “If you aren’t too busy right now… I’m ready.”
Darren was snapped out of his alarmed reverie when Gina spoke again, meeting her questioning gaze. “Oh, um, y-yeah. I-I’m not busy,” he shakily replied, “In fact, I was just looking up the movie… Uh, you can c-come in and check the times, i-if you want.” He gestured towards his open doorway, to his neat room. Thank God he had recently gone through one of his cleaning sprees. Darren could never stand a messy room for too long, although there were times when his room looked like a tornado had hit it. Thankfully, this was not one of those times. His laptop sat on his bed, screen still up, showing the reviews for Chronicle.
As he took a few tentative steps in, he realized he was inviting a girl into his room. His face instantly grew a shade redder and he coughed to cover up the embarrassment he was exuding. Maybe this is a bad idea… he thought with unease.

>> “Oh, no, it’s no problem.”
Gina gave a relieved smile, the tension in her shoulders relaxing ever so slightly. She looked towards her feet, face warming up slightly at the small victory. Subconsciously, her mind followed a similar track—her and Darren going to the movie could be seen as a date. Gina’s tail flicked contemplatively, and her gaze shifted back up to him. The first date she’d gone on, which had been the last date that she’d gone on, was with Koga. Gina supposed that this wouldn’t be too different.
>> “Oh, um, y-yeah. I-I’m not busy… In fact, I was just looking up the movie… Uh, you can c-come in and check the times, i-if you want.”
Gina had been in plenty of boys’ rooms, her brothers included, so she had certain expectations—chaos. The only boy whose room had been anything less than a total disaster was Maxwell’s room. And even then, his room was still a little untidy. Darren’s room was immaculate, and there was only one bed, which meant that his room wasn’t just clean out of courtesy for his roommates. Darren had cleaned his room on his own fruition.
“Wow,” Gina complimented, lingering to one side, beside the bed. She wasn’t sure if she should sit, and if so, where, so she opted for standing instead. Her gaze flickered to the computer screen. He had indeed been looking at information on the movie, judging by the poster for it on the webpage, but it was difficult to read from the angle at which the gargoyle stood.
Darren wasn’t afraid to go with Gina because he didn’t like her, or was averse to the idea of going to the movies with a very attractive and sweet girl. He was afraid of himself, or more specifically, what he might do during the course of the date. He was the total opposite of a social butterfly. He over-thought things more than girls did, had no social skills whatsoever, and was probably the most awkward kid on the block. He was surely going to screw up. Why on earth would Gina want to go out with a boy like him? He shook his head.
>> “Wow.”
He blushed and he sat on his bed, scooping up his laptop. He wasn’t sure what to say to the compliment and settled for a timid nod. He was acutely aware that Gina was standing next to the bed, purposely not sitting on it. The teenager almost offered her a seat next to him, before remembering that they were in his room…with his bed…and…
He cleared his throat and pulled up the movie times, specifically for the theater at a local mall most of the mansion students frequented and recommended. He double-checked it with Gina and they picked the soonest time, which was still an hour or so away. They could kill time at the mall, they decided. The theater was within walking distance, but Darren figured a short taxi ride wouldn’t really dent his wallet (his fathers were quite generous with his allowance). Besides, he didn’t want to make Gina walk all the way to the shopping plaza.
With a few protests from his companion, he hailed a cab on the curb of the mansion and insisted that he pay the fare. The short ride was filled with the gargoyle’s excited chitchat and his shy, mumbled replies. When they arrived at their destination, Darren paid the amused taxi driver and escorted his date into the shopping mall, which was swarming with people. “So…where do you want to go? We have a lot of time.” He wiped his clammy hands off on his jeans and gave a nervous smile.

Together, they had decided on a movie time, at a nearby, local theater that a lot of kids from Xavier’s went to. That was good… it wasn’t a far flight at all, and it was a relatively short walk.
Gina had been taken by surprise when Darren offered to pay for a cab ride. Of course, Gina protested. They could walk, she couldn’t possibly ask him to pay for the fare, which to the gargoyle was just unreasonably expensive. When that didn’t work, Gina insisted that she pay for part of the fare, but in his own, shy way, Darren was annoyingly insistent. Eventually, all Gina could do was slide into a taxi cab, and be driven to the theater.
Gina did ramble excitedly during the ride. Darren was just so quiet, and the taxi cab’s confined area made Gina so tense, she simply had to fill the silence. Thus, she talked. Darren managed to say a few words here and there, but Gina did a majority of the talking. They arrived, and the two of them walked into the mall together.
>> “So…where do you want to go? We have a lot of time.”
Gina hummed to herself, gaze flickering around towards the surrounding storefronts. That last thing she needed was to drag Darren around to a bunch of clothing stores. Her brothers didn’t like shopping, so… he probably didn’t either.
“We could go get some candy to smuggle in…” Gina mused, “Or there’s a bookstore. We could go there, too…”
She turned her brown-eyed gaze towards Darren, meeting his anxious smile with a warm grin of her own, "What say you?"
