The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The drive from the alley to the mansion hadn't been bad. Not extremely long, but it had been rather quiet, Ash not offering up idle chitchat. He had, as was only appropriate, taken his hat off as soon as he got into the car, but the mask stayed on. Ash might be willing to go talk to this guy at this mansion which was also a school, but that didn't mean he was willing to fully reveal himself. He hadn't been ready yet in his life.
And then they seemed to be there, driving through a gate and up to a building. A large building, but that shouldn't have been a surprise to Ash since Sam had said it was a mansion. Once the car had come to a stop, Ash stepped out, hat returning to his head, and turned to see Sam heading to the trunk. And hearing his question, Ash followed him back there to help the younger man carry the pizza boxes inside. The many, many pizza boxes.
“PIZZAS HERE!!!”[/b]
Ash blinked at the sudden yelling coming from the man beside him as they stepped inside. "Was that really necessary?" Ash asked as he made his way further into the entryway. But in the next minute, not only had a group of students come to meet them, but Ash had been relieved of all the pizza boxes he had been carrying.
"Alright, I guess it was," he admitted quietly. Then he turned to regard Sam, a much easier task now, the lighting here in the mansion much better than it had been in the alley way. "So, what's this place all about, then?"

“Mrph manorph man maha.” Shin spoke through an appreciative mouthful of pizza. He swallowed and tried again. “Thanks for the pizza, pizza dude!” He ran over to a student carrying another box of pizza and snagged a second slice. He was really dual-wielding that pizza! As he was turning back to pay the pizza man, he caught sight of Sam.
“Huh?” An elbow jostled him and he tripped forwards, nearly falling flat on his face in front of them… but he caught himself on one knee. “Uh, hi…” Blush.

Grinning at Ash’s question Sam just held his arms out and watched how quickly everyone took the pizzas frowning slightly Sam snagged a whole Pizza from one of the younger students as he said, “Share with your brother we have a guest…” he opened the box and took one then held it open for Ash to grab a slice.
Laughing slightly at Shin, Sam made a gesture to Ash as an introduction and said, “Shadow, Shin. Shin, Shadow” Sam took a bite of his pizza as he looked to Ash and smiled, “Just like I told you in the alley, it’s a school!” Sam looked over to see one of the students snag a piece of pizza with a frog like tongue from a distance, “Kev! Use your hands next time!” Looking back to Ash he said, “Well a school for mutants, teach them and help them gain power over their abilities.
Looking at all the students crowding around the pizza Sam looked to Ash and asked, “Would you like a tour shadow?”
Just as the pizza boxes had disappeared from his arms, now the slices were quickly disappearing from inside the boxes. Not overly surprising considering how many teenagers were in the entryway there.
Sam was apparently having similar thoughts as he took a box back from one of the younger kids Ash saw around, telling him to share with his brother, and then held it open toward Ash. Even though he had already eaten dinner that night, having planned to be out on the streets as The Shadow for another couple hours at least, Ash was not one to turn down pizza. Especially free pizza.
Grabbing a slice, Ash turned and nodded at the introduction Sam made for him and a kid who had just fallen in front of them. Then blinked in surprise, his eyes moving between Sam and another kid when he saw a tongue grabbing a slice of pizza from across the room. Ash had met mutants before, that fact was pretty much impossible to avoid unless one lived under a rock, and he was one himself, but that didn't mean that the comfort and normalcy these people felt with using and seeing powers seemingly on an everyday basis, was normal for Ash.
"Yeah, I think that would be a good idea," Ash replied to the offer of a tour. Hearing what Sam had said about this place and now seeing it were two totally different things. "A place where mutants can safely learn to use their powers?" Ash mused quietly as Ash started following Sam for this tour. "Sure beats trying to figure things out in your bedroom while your brothers are sleeping."

Shin nodded when Sam introduced the two of them to each other, taking another bite of pizza. He gnawed on it tentatively, listening to the conversation between the two men, then alternated to the slice in the other hand. More nodding, more chewing. Slice one was done. “Tour, huh?” Shin paused, setting the last slice down on the plate of a passing student. The student shot him an appreciative glare, which he paid no heed. “Need any help giving the tour?” It was always nice meeting new students. He figured if they ever crossed paths, it’d be better to have more than a name and face to connect them with.
A ball rolled past them all, trailing a little mouse-weasel fur thing. A little Chihuahua skittered across the floor, on its trail, and a young male student with dog ears chased after the chaser. Music in the background was cranked to ‘MAX’. Baby Got Back blared invasively. Shin sighed. He suddenly wanted to get out of there, anyways. A little tour served both his needs~!

Almost expecting Shin to accompany him and Ash Sam walked off down the hall to his office to get a map as the music started to blare and make the house rumble, “Usually isn’t this noisy, special occasions and birthdays that's about it.” Said Sam as they approached his office, “Safe environment is the best place to learn about yourself and later on the tour you’ll find one of the safest places to… ‘Find yourself”.” Sam shot Shin a grin knowing full well that Shin would assume he was talking about the danger room.
“First stop on the tour,” said Sam as he opened the door to his office and entered appreciating his and Streak’s names and all the jobs they do for the mansion on the side of the door, his was ‘Teacher of Self-Defense’ and of course ‘Mansion Greeter’. The X-Men sign was something that him and Streak tried not to publicize too much even though it was a well-known fact around the mansion.
Grinning to Ash he had to show off his pride and joy to Ash, “My office, well” Sam looked over to the office across from his, “Mine and the head of security, Shawn, but if you come around here more you will probably come to know him as Streak.” Sam walked over to his desk and pulled out a map of the mansion showing almost everything in the house all except the things for the X-men that usually remains hidden unless some one thinks otherwise. A new addition to the map was a large bubble at the bottom of the map titled Danger Room. “Well Shadow, pick anywhere on that map and we can start me and Shin will be happy to show you around.”

((OOC: Sam, I'm assuming that the nameplate on/beside the door has Sam's last name on it too. If I'm wrong, let me know and I'll change it.))
It seemed the tour was getting started just in time, as it appeared a party was starting there in the entranceway. A party Ash would have probably once appreciated. His college days were long over at this point, though, just as far removed as he was from the ages of pretty much everyone else he had seen in this mansion thus far.
Yeah, that tour was looking better all the time.
As he followed Sam further into the building, Ash kept his eyes peeled, glancing around in a combination of curiosity and caution. And an eye on Shin. Boy that kid seemed eager about something. While in terms of appearance, he looked about the same age as Sam, Ash couldn't help but wonder if Shin was even younger based on how he acted. It had been a while since he had been 19 himself.
They didn't go far, really just down the hall, but at least they were turning into a room. A room that was apparently Sam's office, which even had signs beside the door saying so. So his name was Sam Johnson? Good to know.
Into the office Ash went, glancing around at the two desks and everything else there. Sam meanwhile had headed over to one of the desks and pulled out a map. Taking a quick glance over to Shin, just making sure where he was, Ash walked slowly over to the desk Sam was standing behind, his left hand reaching up to take his hat off as he went. Setting the hat on the desk, Ash examined the map for a few moments. As he did, Ash's hand reached up once more, quickly and deftly untying the knot and pulling the material away as his other hand ran through his hair. His head was always somewhat itchy after wearing the mask.
"Maybe start from the bottom up?" Ash suggested with a slight shrug. At least according to the map, the top of the building appeared to be mostly bedrooms; not much to see, and if they belonged to the kids who had crowded them in the entrance hall, not overly interesting, either.

“Safe environment is the best place to learn about yourself and later on the tour you’ll find one of the safest places to… ‘Find yourself”.” Sam shot Shin a grin.
Shin nodded. “Mmhmm.” He remembered that place well. His ribs were still slightly sore from the last time.
Shin followed Sam to his office, keeping silent as Sam handled things, pointing out signs and grabbing a map. He glanced at Ash as the boy took off his hat. The mask was the strangest part of the situation. was he wearing a mask? It reminded Shin of costumed comic book superheroes of yore. Images of Zorro and mutant turtles flashed through his head. He’d never figured out why turtles needed secret identities. Shaking the thought off, he turned to look at Ash as he spoke.

“Bottom it is!” Sam said as he let out a small laugh, “Mind you this isn’t usually part of the tour, unless it is needed.” Exiting his office while the other two followed Sam maneuvered his way to the elevator and hit the button that said “B1” once the elevator stopped Sam walked towards the entrance to the danger room and said, “Well Shadow a warning before we go into this room, almost everything you see in here is either an illusion or a machine of some kind, but don’t let that fool you, if it’s coming towards you and it could be dangerous duck or get out of the way. “
Walking into the danger room was nothing special once you lived there and use the room on a regular basis but once you used it as much as they had the thick whooshing doors weren’t to special. But the inside however was a different story; thick metal plated the inside of the very large circular room. It was heat resistant, energy resistant and radiation proof. Basically a large bomb shelter if need be.
Once inside the room the computer started up and said, “Welcome” grinning to Shadow and Shin, Sam called out, “Computer, Giant…Squirrel!” in seconds a large six foot squirrel appeared in a show of lights and sat like a normal squirrel. Looking over to Shin he cracked a smile and then said to shadow, “If you can think it you can pretty much come up with a training simulation. We use this room to help hone the younger mutants control so they are les likely to loose control, I also teach self defense classes in here from time to time.” Grinning he looked to shadow and said, “Any questions?”

So apparently what Sam was about to show him wasn't a normal part of the tour of the mansion. Unless, he said, it was needed. Ash really wasn't sure what Sam meant by that, but they were moving to the elevator now, and Sam was hitting the down button.
Out of the elevator Ash went following Sam and Shin, only for them to stop in front of a door. And have Sam explain about what it was he was about to see in this room on the other side of the door.
This was weird, though, Sam kept calling him 'Shadow'. It was one thing to identify himself to criminals like that, to have himself referred as The shadow in the paper the occasional time he was mentioned there, but this was different. He didn't want it getting around, especially to anyone he knew, that he was a mutant, but this was still different. Somehow.
"Call me Ash," he said as they walked into the room after large metal doors whooshed open. Inside, Ash looked around, taking in the various sights around the room. It was so strange, like nothing he had ever seen or heard about before that day.
Then suddenly there was a gigantic squirrel standing in front of him, taller than he was. Blinking, Ash took a half step back in surprise.
"Self defence and power training?" Ash asked, eyes glancing back and forth between the giant squirrel and Sam. "But...A giant squirrel?"

“Seriously?” Asian eyes goggled at giant squirrel. Giant squirrel eyes stared right back. Shin blinked, repeating his prior message over again, with a slight accentuation on the positive. “Seriously!” This was… kinda awesome, in a disturbing sense. Shin eyed Sam curiously. How he’d ever thought of something so demented…
Anyways. “So are we going to fight this thing or what, Ash?” He was actually looking forwards to seeing what Ash and that squirrel could do. It sure beat pizza at a party, that was for sure!

Nodding to Ash who finally mentioned his name, “Well Ash, we try to make the exercises fun so the younger ones are more egger about coming here, not only is it fun for them but they get a handle on their mutation making it safe for them and others to be around.” Sam walked over to the giant rodent and patted its head and said, “We can be creative as we want, luck favors the prepared they see the weird stuff here out there it’s not a big deal.” He grinned and walked back towards Shin and Ash.
Now standing next to Shin he grinned and said, “Well, that’s up to Ash isn’t it?” looking back to Ash he smiled and said, “Remember it’s just a hologram if you want to fight it feel free to, I kind of feel like you have a few more tricks up your sleeve that what you showed me in the alley.”
Sam didn’t really see much in the alley all he knew that Ash’s powers had something to do with shadows not to mention his hero name was kind of a dead giveaway. “After your down we can finish up the tour” Sam took a few steps back curious to see if Ash would fight it or walk away. It didn’t really matter though the squirrel wanted to play with someone, and if Shin didn’t back up he would get dragged into it as well.
They wanted him to fight a squirrel. A giant, holographic squirrel.
It might be fun, might be entertaining, for the kids, but Ash was no child, hadn't been for a long time. Plus, it was a hologram, and those tended to need light to work, didn't they? Ash's powers didn't work so well with light.
And then Sam mentioned that he thought Ash had more tricks up his sleeve than he had already seen. Turning to look at Sam, an eyebrow raised at how he was trying to go about this, Ash shook his head. Well, there might not be enough shadows around the squirrel for him to do anything, but there certainly were shadows behind Sam and Shin.
"You think I've got more tricks up my sleeve?" Ash repeated Sam's comment as a question while he formed two shadow people, one behind each of Sam and Shin. Two was easy. Only two, and two not doing a whole lot, Ash could still function completely normally, not having to focus too much on them.
"And what if I'm not wanting to share what those tricks are?" Ash continued as he had his shadow people step forward so they were right behind the two younger men. Had the shadow people raise an arm and tap Sam and Shin on the shoulders before they disappeared into simple shadows once more.

Shin felt a tap on his shoulder and turned to glance at the source, but it had vanished quicker than he could catch it. Definitely a strange trick... "So, you can tap people on the shoulders from a distance, then? Cool power, bro." He was a little disappointed by the decision not to fight the giant squirrel, but at the same time he was relieved. It was kind of ridiculous. Turning to Sam, Shin smiled.
"Well, if he isn't going to check it out, that's fine. It was nice meeting you, Ash. I think I'll head back to the party." Maybe pizza was superior to showing a new kid around. Nodding to each of them politely, Shin turned and walked away. He ditched them. Yup.
Slipping back into the party, he plopped on the couch and grabbed a handful of popcorn. The night was young and begging for good times. He was sure Ash and Sam could have good times of their own.
