The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Arianwen wasn't sure if she was allowed off the campus this late at night but after seeing the park on her way through the city the first time she'd had the urge to try this. There was a hope that if she found a place and moment dark enough she could take off her goggles. She did so in her room sometimes, with the lights off and blackout curtains drawn, but even her keen eyes couldn't pick up anything in that sort of pitch darkness. The hope was that, since there was little moon tonight, and only the light of the stars overhead, there would be enough ambient light for her to see but not enough to hurt her sensitive vision. She just hoped that if it was too bright that it wouldn't be by enough to actually blind her, in which case she'd have to sit in the same spot for at least an hour for her vision to recover enough for her to make her way back to the mansion. Now though she simply made her way through the paths of the park, searching for a dark corner that seemed right for her plans. Finally she seemed to find one, a place where a copse of trees blocked out the nearest dim light for the path and even shaded out the stars somewhat. Taking a deep breath she looked down and removed her goggles, blinking as everything grew brighter without them.
Sarah walked as quietly as she could through the abandoned park. It was always strange how the park turned from the place for people to go in the day to a creepy abandoned green area at night. The night air felt good on her face. She hadn't thought about going to the park until she was passing it on her way home. She had thought that a quick walk wouldn't hurt her.
She was on her way back to where she had entered the park when she spotted someone ahead of her. Curiosity got the better of her and she followed. The person was shrouded in shadows, so the brunette wasn't sure who they were.
"Hello?" she called out softly, not wanting to destroy the quiet. "Is someone there?"
Ari had just finished readjusting her headphones when she heard someone approaching, she froze in hopes of her dark clothes blending in with the shadows but when the person called out she turned to them. She saw thick, dark hair, caramel-colored skin, and the arms of an archer under the girl's sleeves. She nodded a greeting but stayed in the shadows.
"Hello." She replied softly, fidgeting with her goggles which now hung around her neck and hoping to god that this stranger didn't have a flashlight and a sudden urge to use it.
The brunette smiled when she heard a reply. "I'm sorry to disturb you. I just saw you on my way back and thought I'd say hi," she stated as she walked towards where the voice was.
She could make out a person's shape and the voice said they were female, but that was all she knew. The light in the area they were in was limited and Sarah's eyes had yet to adjust to the change in lighting. Hopefully she wasn't walking up to some killer.
"I'm not some psychotic murderer, in case you were wondering. I just find the shadows soothing." She replied, an amused smile curving her lips as her pale blue eyes looked out from her equally pale white face. Under her white-blonde hair she could almost be ghost-like, if it weren't for the heavy black clothing she wore over everything else. With her slim, seemingly delicate frame swathed in dark cloth she looked very nonthreatening. And she generally wasn't very dangerous unless there were a bow in her hands. She had hers put together and slung over one shoulder in a special sort of quiver that could carry it as well as her arrows for a short time without harming the bow. She'd brought it for safety's sake, though she preferred to run if she could.
>>"I'm not some psychotic murderer, in case you were wondering. I just find the shadows soothing."
Sarah laughed. "Telepath? Or just good guessing skills?" It was kind of rude to ask, but it was better to be safe than sorry.
The brunette knew there were mutants. She hadn't met many until she came to New York, but she did know that the powers varied from person to person. Whoever the woman was, be it mutant or human, it didn't really matter. All humans harmed others. So no matter what, she had to be careful.
"A guess drawn from experience I suppose you could say." She replied with a shrug, glancing up at the sky. She looked down quickly as the light of a particularly bright star lanced down into her eyes and rubbed at them furiously with a grimace. So she could go without the goggles here, but she couldn't look up. Good to know.
>>"A guess drawn from experience I suppose you could say."
Sarah smiled and walked closer until she could make out the girl's face. There wasn't much else she could see. The girl had long hair, though. She couldn't see much else. Her eyes were still adjusting.
"So, why in the park at this hour?" she asked. Her voice was still soft, not disturbing the silent park. The only way someone would hear her, other than the girl, would be if they had strong hearing.
Arianwen shrugged and looked around the park, seeing every leaf with perfect clarity as they were edged by silver star-light.
"It was the only place I could think of with the right balance of light and shadows to allow me to remove my goggles." She replied honestly, touching said goggles where they hung from her neck before tucking her gloved hands into her pockets. The girl had already made a joke about mutant powers so she didn't think her finding out would be so bad. And if she did react badly she could just say she was photophobic to a very high degree.
>>"It was the only place I could think of with the right balance of light and shadows to allow me to remove my goggles."
The brunette nodded as her sight caught the goggles mentioned. Her eyes were adjusting. If only a little. It would be a few more minutes before she would see a lot better.
"So, lots of light hurts? Must be fun in the city that never sleeps. I guess the park would be the best place for you to be at ease."
Sarah stuck her hands in the back pockets of her blue jeans. She wondered what the extent of the girls senstivity went, but didn't ask. That seemed rather personal and they had just met. She lightly wondered how old the girl was, and if said female went to the school.
She nodded again, keeping a perfect stance in case something came up and she needed to draw her bow. But somehow she managed to do that while remaining completely relaxed, muscles not tightening nor having to be forced to loosen. She was at ease, but ready for anything.
"Yes well, hence the goggles. They're very darkly tinted." She replied but chose not to reveal that the headphones were chosen for more than just music as it probably wouldn't be wise to be spewing all her weaknesses to a complete stranger in a public place in the middle of the night.
Sarah nodded again. Whoever the girl was, she seemed to want to be alone. The brunette was probably interrupting her alone time. Then again, the girl could be doing something illegal. The brunette wouldn't really know.
"Specially made?" she asked. "Or is there a certain store you go to for them?"
Her questions just seemed to appear from no where. They appeared for a fleeting moment before they were out her mouth. Sarah wasn't sure if it was a good thing or a bad. It meant she wasn't lying, but it also meant she could say the wrong thing. She still didn't know if the girl was good or bad.
"They were tinted against snow-glare, which can be pretty bright on a clear day. Then we took them to a place where they tinted car windows and got them to add some more." She replied easily, smiling as she remembered that little misadventure. Her hands were in her pockets now as she carefully studied the brunette once more.
"So what brings you out here so late?" She asked after a moment, head tilted slightly to the side.
Sarah nodded at the explanation. It was rather ingenious. Regular tinted goggles with an added layer seemed like a smart plan to her.
>>"So what brings you out here so late?"
The brunette shrugged. There really wasn't a reason for her to be in the park.
"I guess I'm just here to clear my head. I was walking by after work. Thought it'd be a good idea to go for a walk." The woman paused. "Good place to get away from it all, don't cha think?"
