The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was good to fly again-- good to fly uninhibitted, in the skies that were her own. It had been nearly five months, nearly five months since Gina's dance with death. She'd been out and about in the city since then, but it had been far too long since she'd taken to the skies. The skies were her domain, and as she was getting over anxiety, she'd restricted herself to familiar neighborhoods, surrounding Xavier's. Safe places. She only flew during low-activity times, when few people were looking skywards. It had been the first time in a long time that Gina had taken to the air during the daylight hours.
It was late in the afternoon, nearly evening, and Gina was weaving lazily through the buildings, towards Central Park. At this hour of the day, there'd be a steady enough flow of people that, should she find trouble, Gina would be safe. But there was also not so many people that she'd cause a spectacle if she landed. Gina needed a break, and a drink of water, and Central was en route to the Mansion and had plenty of room to land. It was convenient. Gina spied the park from a distance, a strip of green amidst the grey ambiguity of the city She wove through buildings in precise, casual dips, and banked lower as she crossed the edge of the parks' boundaries.
There were a few open spaces, off of the walking path and hidden by trees, perfect for landing. And Gina had visited these spots enough to know where nearby drinking fountains and restrooms would be. She'd take a break, then head home and call it a day.
There was an involuntary thrill as Gina dipped below the treeline and felt her feet touch the ground. A spike in caution, her eyes swiveling about her surroundings alertly. Ever since her encounter with the lion-headed man, she always made her descents carefully. First she surveyed her immediate surroundings, and then the surrounding buildings, before continuing on. She saw nothing. The gargoyle allowed herself to relax, stretching from the tips of her wings to her taloned feet. The coast was clear, and the park was hers. Just like the skies, this was her domain.
It's one thing to be out in the open when you have no support, it's another when you feel like you have an army behind you. That's exactly how Aurion felt as he sat perched on a ledge above some fast food place. He had already snagged a few pigeons to snack on. Not that Aurion cared, but it was pretty obvious, even to him, that the sight of some creepy looking lizard mutant eating pigeons could and was driving away quite a bit of business.
A woman in her mid to late 20's had come out and asked Aurion to leave a few times, quite timidly each time. Each time Aurion just looked at her, unmoving, and uncaring until she went back in. This last time though, she had come out with a phone. "Umm...Could you please leave? I-I'm going to...I ah..have to report this. I don't want any trouble, but we're not getting any business with you...."
Aurion didn't hear the rest of what she was saying as something flew overhead casting an interesting shadow on the ground. By the time he connected the shadow to the object that cast it, the flying thing was almost out of sight. 'Damn buildings.' He thought to himself as tried to guess where it had gone. Once he had a good idea, he looked down at the woman, smiled, opened his mouth and dropped a dripping, raw, dead bird onto her head. He didn't even pay attention to her reaction or scream as he bounded off of the ledge to chase after the shadow.
It really didn't take long to find it once he had gotten to the top of a building to see where the thing was heading. Following it had gotten a bit more difficult when he entered the park. Trees kept blocking his view, so he had to climb them often. It was a bit annoying but his stubbornness won out in the end.
When he finally reached the area where the figure had landed he watched as it stretched out. Aurion's eyes widened as it's wings stretched to their full extent. That was the first and most striking thing he noticed, but it wasn't the only or last. He and the figure had a couple similarities, namely the tail, legs and claws.
He began to circle the figure, getting closer with each step, trying to get a better look at it. It wasn't until he had made a half circle around the figure that he realized something else. It was a she. Falling onto all fours he began to slink out, staying low, his second eyelids out, tail out behind him lazily moving from side to side. He was trying to get to her tail. He had seen what Jupiter's could do, he wanted to know what hers could do. After a few steps he thought it might not be a good idea to surprise her.

The feeling that settled was eerie and unshakable. It was that feeling that one got, when they were fairly certain that they were alone, and yet they couldn’t shake the sense of having eyes upon them. Someone was watching Gina, she could feel it at the pit of her stomach, and a thrill ran up her spine. She wrote it off as paranoia. She always felt less assured when she was on the ground, rather than up in the skies. Or maybe it was the trees, or the seclusion. Either way, she didn’t feel as in-her-element when on the ground as she did when she was airborne.
She breathed a faint sigh, and began to walk towards the edge of the opening, in the direction of the treeline. Perhaps a drink of water would cool her nerves—
>> "Hello."
Gina froze and stiffened involuntarily at the voice that broke her reverie. She hadn’t expected it, so she startled, if only for a few heartbeats. Her wings were drawn inward, and she turned towards the source of the noise, eyes following the turn of her head as she looked towards the thick shadows cast by the foliage. She saw a flicker of motion in the trees, and saw that whatever was drawing nearer was a massive thing. Far, far bigger than the lion-headed man that Gina so deeply feared. Her eyes thinned with scrutiny, following the movement in the shadows. She found herself turning, slowly, trying to get a direct look at it (while it, trying to see her tail, kept to the corner of her line of vision).
Finally, the thing—the mutant, Gina corrected herself—came in close enough for the girl to see. It—well, he or she… he, if the beard or the voice counted for anything—was what would classically be considered as a monster. He was huge, and had a tail that was as long as he, if not longer, and mean-looking talon.
Ginas' taloned fingers curled subconsciously around the strap of her backpack, her own tail twitching, pausing, and then twitching again lazily. They were one-in-the-same, it would seem. So Gina would give the other mutant the same benefit of the doubt that she wished people would give her. She wouldn't wig-out until given a reason to.
“Hey,” Gina finally answered back casually, as if remembering her voice, “You gave me a start. I thought I was alone.”
Her voice wasn’t accusatory, just pointing-out the obvious. She opted for a toothless half-smile, taking a few steps closer, and then pausing. It was curiosity, colored by an afterthought of caution. Another mutant had done her wrong once before, so that preconceived notion of "camaraderie among mutational brothers and sisters", though reflexive, always came with a nasty pang of doubt.
"Sorry. No mean to." Aurion lifted one hand and made an 'airplane' with it and swooped it in an arc. "You fly. Curious, I follow." Thinking it was okay, Aurion blinked a few times to clear anything from his eyes before opening them without the covering of his second eyelids.
Instead of moving closer to her, Aurion crouched low, basically sitting, resting his forearms on his knees, balancing with his tail. He may be large, but in that position, he was looking up at her. It seemed to take her a few moments to remember how to speak, but when she did, she didn't seem too shocked. No, she might have been wary, as if she were expecting him to pounce on her, claws first. Which in reality, he could very well do.
Aurion dragged his claw through the ground in a small circle. "Alone. Want be?" He asked as his tail moved from side to side a little more rapidly and with more waving as it did. While many guys might be checking the girl out, how much of her was real and how much was because of a push-up or padded bra, he wasn't. In fact he really hadn't noticed those aspects of her much. He was curious about her tail, and her wings, and the two horns coming from her head. His tail shuddered sharply as he thought of poking the horns with his tail. Were they sharp? How hard were they? Did she use them for anything?

>> "Sorry. No mean to. You fly. Curious, I follow."
His speech was broken but understandable, as the lizard-like mutant retold his account of how he had seen Gina flying over head, complete with a gesture in which he mimicked Gina banking to one side.
“Oh, I see,” Gina said with a nod. She saw, and she understood—mutants were curious about one another, occasionally curious enough to follow them. Like whatever-his-name-was… Gumby. The one who’d left his coat when he ran from Xavier’s, whose coat Gina still had neatly folded at the back of her closet. At least this one hadn’t fallen off of a roof in an attempt to catch up with her.
The lizard-like mutant sank to the ground, sitting on his haunches and using his tail to counterbalance the weight, gaze now tilted up at her. Gina, in turn, bent her had to look at him. As if he were addressing a kid, and needed to get to their eye-level. But it worked—when the enormously tall mutant sank to a lower vantage point, this gave Gina enough boldness to venture closer. She stopped a few strides back from him, at a polite, social distance, but remained standing. She was already short enough, just standing. Her motion was in no way deliberate—if she was going to talk to someone, she didn’t want to be standing twelve feet away from them.
>> "Alone. Want be?"
Gina shrugged a shoulder and nodded her head to the side, giving a noncommittal shrug and headshake all at once.
“No, it’s fine,” she assured him, “I was just stopping for a break. You’re welcome to stick around.”
Now closer, Gina could discern more subtle aspects of the other mutant. The mottled green-grayness of his skin, and the peculiar markings… the carapace over his head, the talons on his hands and feet, but most importantly, the tail, which seemed to have a mind of its own—Gina smiled a bit at that, her own tail curling. She could relate to that.
“My name’s Gina,” Gina said, remembering her manners, “What’s yours?”
Did he shake hands, or was he the strictly non-contact sort? Visible mutants could be such whiners about being touched, so Gina erred on the side of cordiality. Unlike when it came to humans, in which case Gina was so forward that it might have offended some.
To Aurion, the flying one had basically invited him to intrude on her space and bug her, in a friendly manner at least. He hopped forward a bit landing in a more comfortable position, which put him just slightly taller than she was. Smiling as he noticed her own tail curling around, he stepped even closer as his tail snaked along the ground. Aurion's fin wrapped gently around her tail and 'shook' it in greeting.
Lifting a clawed finger, he put it up and moved to tap her nose with it, "Gi-na." He said it with a hard 'E' sound. Putting his free hand over his chest. "Aurion (Are-E-on)." After a few moments Aurion realized he might be a bit too close for her comfort and moved back a bit, but he didn't let go of her tail.
"You fly, tired, hungry?" If she was hungry, Aurion could easily get something for them. Though he didn't know if she ate food like he did. Raw. But people could eat fish raw couldn't they? He could probably find fish from the lake if needed.

The lizard-man hopped forward at the permission to stay, lingering over Gina. Well, more like loomed, but he seemed rather pleased with the permission to stay. His tail crept towards her and twined, as if it were a special, tailed-mutant handshake. Gina smiled and swallowed a laugh. Her tail was generally something that she left alone. It was just funny to acknowledge it like a third hand, and to casually be shaking said “hands” with another mutant. Her hand went to hide the fact that she was almost giggling, when the lizard-guy moved closer.
He extended a taloned finger, and touched her nose, reiterating her name. This time, a brief laugh escaped her. He was like a little kid. Except… approximately seven feet tall, Gina would venture to say. A seven-foot-tall, lizard-like kid. He then announced his own name, touching his chest.
>> "Gi-na. Aurion."
“Aur-i-on,” Gina reiterated, placing the same amount of emphasis on each syllable, “Nice to meet you.”
He then stepped back, as if second-guessing his proximity, but Aurion was still tethered to her tail by his own.
>> "You fly, tired, hungry?"
“A little tired, but more thirsty,” Gina confessed. Her immediate concern was getting a drink, and she was tired but not exhausted. And she was always a little hungry, but food could wait until she got back the Mansion. She looked at her tail, which the other mutant was still fastened to, and back up at him. It’d be difficult to walk to the water fountain with such an enormous tether. Gina flexed the "fingers" at the tip of her tail, and lightly attempted to pull it free, without avail.
“Um…” she trailed uncertainly, “Want to tag along? I know of a drinking fountain over in that direction.”
She pointed towards where most of the public traffic was, and turned her shoulders in that direction, to show that she intended to walk that way.
Aurion's face broke into a wide, sharp toothed smile as Gina said his name. She didn't seem to be put off by his tail latching onto hers. Quite the opposite it seems, as he could tell she seemed to be all but laughing out loud. When she said she was thirsty he was going to suggest the lake, but he felt her tail move in a way his never did. He couldn't help looking down at it to see the tips of it moving like little fingers. Aurion stared and leaned closer. "Cool." His voice a light chuckle.
"Eh?" Aurion looked up at the girl, having missed what she had been saying on account of her tail fingers. By the time his mind had registered what she had said she had already turned and started walking towards the fountain, and people. He could stay at least 10ft behind her without letting go of her tail, but he thought that would be a bit odd. Not to mention he didn't want to make her feel awkward somehow, so instead he untwined his tail from hers, and dropped onto a crouched walk, staying close to her eye level.
"You like, I carry you." He kicked himself mentally, 'No that didn't come out a bit odd at all did it. Really you should just keep your mouth shut sometimes, you know that?'
'Well no shit genius, I am the one who said it. I just can't help that it doesn't always come out the way I think it. You know that. And you know what? Just stay quiet for a while before I think I really have gone crazy.'
'It's okay to talk to yourself, it's just time to be worries if you answer yourself too.....which you have, ha!' It wasn't uncommon for him to talk to or make fun of himself when he felt he was being extra stupid.

The flexing of Gina’s tail drew attention. Of course it did. It had to feel indescribably bizarre, and Gina felt an inkling of self-consciousness simmer at the back of her mind. Which was ridiculous, of course, considering that this mutant was as mutated as she, if not more—but Aurion seemed to think that it was “cool”. Gina’s expression, which had been fading into embarrassment, rose up in a grin of its own as she turned to saunter away. Aurion followed, which was nothing short of unexpected, really.
>> "You like, I carry you."
… that, however, was. Gina glanced back at him. That was actually, oddly, really considerate. She wasn’t that tired, though. She was still a fully-functional walker, didn’t need the extra help with getting to some water. As soon as Gina turned her attention to Aurion, he seemed to regret what he’d said, or at least realize that what he’d said wasn’t something that a guy would randomly say to a girl when they first met in the park. Luckily, Gina was a merciful creature. She’d spare him the embarrassment.
“I’d hate to impose,” Gina said politely. Plus, carrying a girl with wings that’d get in the way would be cumbersome. She wasn’t declining, per se, just saying that she didn’t want to trouble Aurion with such things. The subject was changed quickly, and Gina paused as the next question was voiced.
>> "Your tail...Like hand. Use like hand?"
Gina grinned. She enjoyed showing off little parlor tricks like this… it really was (in her mind) the only “cool” thing that she could do. Grab stuff with her tail. She skimmed the ground for something to pick up, tail flicking pensively. She spied a dandelion, and her tail paused. It reached towards said yellow flower, tendrils carefully closing around the stem, and she plucked the flower up. Gina then brought her tail around so that the flower lingered before the two of them.
“See for yourself,” Gina said simply, smiling like a fool, “Here.”
'Yeah definitely bad, even she thought it was silly. She's being nice about say no though, that's good, right?'
Aurion's mind does an imaginary shifty-eye movement, 'Yeah, good. Yup. Totally a good thing.'
'Eh, what?......I thought I told you to shut up!'
'Then stop asking me questions!'
Aurion slowed and watched as Gina moved her tail to snag a single dandelion from the ground. The way she had done it was so smooth and natural if he hadn't seen it for himself, he wouldn't have believed it. Sure, he could get a single dandelion as well, but not that way. He would have to cut it and then scoop it up with his fin. He just didn't have the exacting dexterity, nor the grip, that she had. He didn't have a third hand on the end of his tail.
When she held the flower in between them, offering it to him, he reached out to grab it, careful not to nick her with is claws. Tails could be very sensitive, and if she could grab things like that, her's was probably very sensitive. He wasn't sure what she meant by "See for yourself." or the grin on her face, so he moved warily, giving her a bit of a sideways look as he did.

Aurion reached towards the flower with the same hesitance that one might reach towards an animal that was threatening to bite him. Was he afraid of the flower, or afraid of hurting Gina? No matter, he was being careful, and the little gargoyle was very patient. After an eternity of cautions edging towards the flower, Aurion finally plucked up the flower, and Gina let her tail settle.
“It’s useful for carrying things, or steadying myself when I land,” Gina explained. It was funny, to boast about her tail to a fellow, tailed mutant. It almost felt like one of those, “My horse is bigger than your horse” arguments, except that both mutants were genuinely intrigued in one another.
“What does your tail do?” Gina inquired back, nodding towards Aurion’s tail. His boasted something like a shark’s fin at its tip It had to do something.
When his scaled fingers closed on the flower Aurion let out his breath. Why had he sort of been holding his breath, well, he wanted to be sure not to hit her tail with his claws, but also, he expected the flower's head to come flying off at him. Like a 'Mamma had a baby and its head popped off.' type of thing. He looked from the flower to Gina. "Thought pop flower off at me. Mamma baby head pop off. Yes?" Chuckling he attempted to do just that, but failed. He couldn't get the right grip on it, so instead he adjusted his grip on the flower and put it Gina's nose, twisting it clockwise and counterclockwise, giving her nose a slightly yellow color. "Hehe."
Aurion wondered if Gina's tail was strong like his, or just dextrous. If he had to guess he would say dextrous, it was fairly thin, especially compared to his own. But he could never pick up a flower or other objects like she did. He had trouble picking things up with his hands. "Tail? Umm.." He looked at it. "Get in trouble." He smiles at her and held his hand up to her in a 'Stop' sort of way. "No move."
Slowly, making sure his fin was relaxed, he slid his tail under one of her arms, around her back, being careful of her wings, and under the other arm until it encircled her. "Ready?" Aurion asked just before he tightened his tail a bit, but not enough to hurt her (hopefully), and lifted her off the ground with relative ease. His toes dug into the round a bit to keep him balanced as he lifted her a good five feet off the ground. After setting her down in basically he the same spot he slowly unwound his tail from her.
"Fin help swim. Swim fast, catch fish. Yummy." His tail wriggled behind him for a moment before he flexed his fin. "And cut." Aurion's tail lashed up in an arc to a low hanging, somewhat thin branch. If his tail hand moved any faster and stopped suddenly, it would have made a nice cracking sound, like a whip. The branch began to fall almost as soon as his tail rested back on the ground. Aurion lifted his arm and caught it on it's way down. "Sometimes it good tail." Even though the branch was still green, he sunk his claws into it and snapped it easily with his hands. He kept a small chunk of it to gnaw on before he tossed the rest of it behind him.

>> "Thought pop flower off at me. Mamma baby head pop off. Yes?... Hehe."
Gina arched an eyebrow at the anthropomorphic lizard, not sure of what he meant, but she nodded faintly, as if she did. He held the flower up to her nose, as if offering it for her to smell He then twisted it, disposing pollen onto it, and Gina wrinkled her nose. What a goof,. He was just like a little kid.
>> "Tail? Umm.. Get in trouble. No move."
He looked back at his tail before cautioning Gina, telling her not to move. Gina obeyed, and waited. She remained in her spot, though her wings fluttered uncertainly. It was an involuntary twitch, as the tail edged towards her, and encircled her midsection. Gina lifted her arms helpfully, and her wings may have lifted slightly, involuntarily.
>> "Ready?"
Gina nodded mutedly, and soon herself being lifted off of the ground. Her hands involuntarily went to the man’s tail for balance. Gina would never be able to do that with her tail. That was raw power. Her eyes swiveled about with intrigue, before fastening onto Aurion again, smiling at the display. She remained lightly fastened to his tail until Gina was once again deposited on the ground, before letting go.
>> "Fin help swim. Swim fast, catch fish. Yummy. And cut. Sometimes it good tail."
Gina grinned and nodded her head, “Sounds very useful. Very good.”
Aurion held onto a part of the branch contemplatively and Gina began to turn again, to show that she was going to continue walking towards the water fountain.
“So, how often do you fish?” Gina inquired. What she really wanted to ask was, was that how he fed himself? Just fishing? But that was too nosy, bore too much potential for causing an offense.
Aurion was glad Gina wasn't frightened when he lifted her up. Even more so that she seemed think it was cool. He gave her a quick wink and said again with a chuckle, "Sometimes good tail." He gnawed on the branch, like some people do with toothpicks, as he turned to follow Gina.
"Not lot. Winter cold, not so good. When warm one-two times month, sometimes more." He spat out a few broken chunks of wood before he started rambling a bit, "Birds easier, not big though. Dog and cat a lot, sometimes raccoon or rat." His tone was somewhat flat. He wasn't bragging or trying to impress Gina, not that that thought had even entered his mind. "When I could, I eat normal food. Break in, take food, leave. Mostly meat, other food not great. Well, use to. Not now. Now steak, lots steak and bacon. And bacon steak!" Aurion could feel his mouth watering at the thought of it. He licked his lip and tried not to drool. "Heh, sorry."
Still close by her as they walked, "You fish?" He walked on just his legs and made the motion of casting a fishing pole. He wasn't trying to be assuming by the gesture, but he had a feeling her wings wouldn't help her much to swim. Once he had that thought, it was a bit hard not to ask. "Not be rude, but ah..can you swim?"

Gina meandered through the trees, brown eyes turning about carefully. Ironically, it was the human-dangers that lingered in the park that she was keeping an eye out for, not the mutant ones. Not with a guy like Aurion ambling behind her, watching her back. She was listening to him chatter about the foods that he ate. Partially, she was very surprised, yet deep-down she wasn’t too shocked, either. Sometimes he fished, but only when it was warm out—other times he ate essentially any meat he could come across within the city, which entailed but wasn’t limited to rats, raccoons, birds, dogs and cats. Gina grimaced at the notion, but her back was to Aurion. So, luckily, he probably hadn’t caught her facial expression.
Aurion quickly added-on that he ate “normal” food whenever he could, though.
“Bacon and steak are really good,” Gina agreed, “I’ve never had bacon steak, though.”
What Gina envisioned, however, was numerous slices of bacon packed into a shape that was vaguely nostalgic of steak. It was an obscure mental image.
>> "You fish? … Not be rude, but ah… can you swim?"
Gina smiled and shook her head, “No, it’s fine.”
Those were probably the mildest questions that’d ever been asked of her, and yet Aurion was trying to make sure he didn’t cause her offense. It was actually a humorous notion.
“I don’t fish, I don’t have the attention span for it,” Gina confessed, “My middle brother fishes, though.”
Gina paused, shifting her gaze towards Aurion, “As per the swimming, I’ve never really been able to—” She lifted up one of her feet, spreading her toes so as to broadcast the taloned digits, and their blatant lack of webbing in-between. They were bony and bird-like, maladapted for swimming, “They don’t really work well with water. I usually sink like a stone.”
Gina uttered the phrase before realizing how cheesy it had been, at which she laughed and shook her head, setting her foot back down upon the ground.
