The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Kai plopped happily into the sunlit bus seat. He was glad to be able to spend the entire afternoon at a beautiful and relaxing beach rather than sitting and worrying back in his room. It seemed like he was worrying constantly, whether it be about money or about girls or about trees or that his “dreams would come true”. Except Kai's dreams were dark and twisty, more like warnings than fantasies. Were these warnings or just his own fears coming back to haunt him?
He pushed those thoughts aside. This was exactly the reason why he had jumped at the opportunity to go out with his fellow teenagers and just be teens. And Kai didn't have a whole lot of experience with beaches. There weren't terribly many of them in Iowa and since coming to New York, he'd been busy enough that he hadn't been to a beach yet. Not that he'd had friends to go with until recently... Yes, this field trip was exactly what he needed.
Kai leaned back against the seat and closed his eyes. It was supposed to be a quick ride- only 20 minutes or so, but maybe that would be enough time for a nap?
His hopes were dashed when other people began filing onto the bus and he decided to be social instead of sleep. I wanted to meet more mansion residents, he reminded himself. Kai did his best to smile and look friendly to the people entering the vehicle.
Alina was ecstatic when she heard there was going to be a field trip to the beach. She enjoyed swimming in the mansion pool, but it wasn't the same as swimming in open water with no boundaries. She hadn't had a chance to switch into octopus form since coming to America. The thought lingered in her mind for a while. I wonder what the others will think of my powers, she thought. No time to worry about that now. No one would think she was a monster. Not with this crowd of people.
She pulled her sunglasses out of her bag and placed them on her nose before entering the bus with the other students. Alina was scared to admit she'd never actually been on a bus before. She was afraid that the others would laugh at her if they found out she was actually scared to ride a bus. Alina seemed scared a lot lately. Maybe it was because so many things were new to her.
She scanned the seats and saw a boy with brown hair and green eyes sitting in the middle of the bus. He looked nice, and Alina didn't know too many boys at the mansion. She strolled over boldly. After a moments hesitation, she asked;

It turned out being an X-man wasn't going to be all street fights and glory; there was also, apparently, patrolling, community service, more patrolling, and the worst duty of them all... Babysitting.
Saph climbed onto the bus with a grumpy look on his face, looking about at all of the teens sitting about, and noting which ones would be trouble as he passed. Spiky haired kid with a pukka necklace- trouble, silent kid with dark makeup and emo hair- trouble, Jock- Most definitely trouble, Calm looking kid with other calm looking kid looking to get a seat? Well... that didn't look like trouble at all... And that isn't sarcasm, it really didn't look like trouble. Heck, the guy was even wearing a choker that looked like it had some kinda nut on it... acorns... If anything he was a hippie, or a nature-lover... They generally didn't cause problems unless you gave them a big boat and sent them after whale hunters.
Now, Common sense would dictate that he would sit next to the trouble makers in order to keep them in check, but the fact that he didn't want to be here- well, that certainly made a difference. He opted to take a relaxed seat in front of the soon to be seat mates, nature boy and his new friend, and keep his trap shut. A nerdy kid asked him if he could sit next to him, and he responded with a shake of the head, causing the kid to blink, and sit across the way. What? He didn't have to be social here, did he? This bus was filled with kids; and he would defend them like a mama bear, but that didn't mean he had to be buddy buddy.
A field trip to the beach was the perfect way to distract one's self from the fact that classes were starting up again in a week. Where had the summer gone? It had melted away, like all summers do.
She didn't know who else was signed up to go, but she didn't especially care. She was going regardless of whether she knew anybody on the trip or not. That didn't mean she wasn't curious, though. When she stepped on the bus, the first thing she did was to scan for familiar faces.
Kai. The cute plant manipulator who had once shared a tree limb with her and made her promise not to tell anyone about his mutation. It seemed like it had been only yesterday.
Then, several students whose faces were familiar, but to whom she had never really spoken.
She looked at their chaperone last, and was taken aback when she saw him. Saphirus. The magikarp guy. She hadn't exactly gotten on his good side right from the start, though they had pretty much made amends right away. After he broke her arm. On accident. She didn't hold that against him, though. Sam had done that once, too.
She waved at their chaperone before staring got too awkward. Then she squeezed behind the dark haired girl that was in the aisle beside Kai's seat and took the one opposite them. She was pretty much the last one aboard before the doors slid shut and the driver started explaining the safety rules as if after having lived at school for a couple of years they had all forgotten the drill. Don't stick your head out the window, don't throw things, emergency exit in the back. Like anyone ever had to actually use an emergency exit.
And then, they were on their way. They weren't very far from the coast, but it would take a few minutes to get to a nice beachy area.
Katrina turned to the two in the seat next to her, Kai and the brunette, “Hey, what's your name? I'm Katrina.”
“Be my guest,” he offered, then smiled at the girl who sat next to him. Her long brown hair seemed to shimmer in the sunshine. She seemed very nice. The mansion seemed filled with long haired, nice girls. A bonus for a nice guy.
Several other teens got on, a grumpy yet approachable chaperone, and then Katrina. Kai waved to her as she sat down across the aisle from him. “I'm glad to see you are coming Katrina!” Kai beamed. He didn't know many of the other kids and was happy to see at least one familiar face on the bus. The bus lurched forward and the two girls exchanged pleasantries. He politely waited for the new girl to answer Katrina's question before he introduced himself.
“I'm Kai.” His body bounced as the bus with poor extension hit every pothole and uneven patch on the road. His bag with his towel bobbled on his lap then turned itself over, scattering all his belongings. “Oh no!” He exclaimed as several bottles and his toothbrush clattered to the floor and shifted towards the front of the bus.
“I'm Alina,” she said with a little smile as she sat down. The road they were driving on was particularly uneven and bumpy. Alina's sunglasses had a hard time staying on her nose and her butt was starting to get sore already. It didn't surprise her too much when the bag on Kai's lap flipped over, spilling the contents.
Alina popped out of her seat and began retrieving his stuff just as a very large bump rocked the bus. She fell over, still holding a toothbrush and a bottle in one hand and her own bag in the other, right on top of the boy, Kai. Oops...
Her sunglasses now askew and her hair in a mess, she looked up at him with a sheepish grin. Her hearts pounded slightly as she handed him back his stuff and righted herself on her own seat. She didn't really want to spend the rest of the ride on an almost complete stranger's lap. Beet red, Alina tried to make herself as small as possible. This was soooooo embarrassing! She hoped they would just get their soon so she could disappear into the water.

The rest of the breakfast club stereotypes started filing in as he sat there... Most of them were pretty harmless, though he reminded himself that appearances could be deceiving, and kids this age tended to have a knack for messing with authority figures.
Oh well, it looked like as long as he stayed out of the way, this would be a bree-Katrina walked onto the bus; Oh shi-! He sunk down into the seat, but they were meant for kids, so it didn't hide him... She waved... Oh god, why did the one student in the school that he'd actually beaten the crap out of have to come?! And the worst thing was that she was a nice girl... He swallowed his throat, and waved back with the best innocent smile he could put on.... Aw man...
She went and sat across from the nutty necklace kid, and he wondered silently if she was going to hold a grudge about the whole 'oops I broke you arm' thing. The worst thing was that he was under the impression that she'd already forgiven him. Argh! Why couldn't he break the mean ones?! The sound of spilling contents snapped him from his thought process, and he looked down to see some sun screen slide past him and towards the front. His eyes widened, and she stopped it with his feet, reaching down to pick it up.
The older mutant turned to give it back to the kid behind him. "Here, I think you dropped th- oh..." He saw her sitting atop him. "Ahem... Keep it PG, please." He handed over the stuff and turned around again, sighing... Even the nice looking ones were breaking the rules these days.
((Kat is going to shift into the background b/c she is super busy and won't have time to post in a loong time.))
Of COURSE he would be clumsy and spill his stuff. And of COURSE the chaperon would walk by RIGHT as the cute new girl somehow ended up on his lap. Kai blushed a deep shade of scarlet. "I... I... uh, she, we didn't... weren't..." he stuttered at the back of the retreating adult as he tried to put the girl right again. Since he seemed to be ignoring them again, he began apologizing profusely to her instead. "Ah-Alina! I'm s-so sorry!"
Fortunately Kai was spared a long, agonizing bus trip. Just a few minutes that seemed to stretch much longer than they were supposed to. He spent the time staring straight forward, only speaking when spoken to until finally, the creaky bus doors opened to allow him freedom.
Alina couldn't remember the last time she had been quite so embarrassed. Not only had she managed to make a complete fool of herself in front of an almost complete stranger, but she succeeded in doing it in front of an adult. There was no where for her to hide her ignominy. “Questo è così imbarazzante...” she muttered to herself, face the color of an overripe tomato.
She didn't say anything the rest of the trip and tried not to make eye contact with anyone, especially Kai. When the bus finally creaked to a stop and the door flew open, Alina was the first out of her seat running toward the water. She planned to forget about the bus fiasco and relax. She threw her bag down and took off her shirt and shorts, revealing her swimsuit. She kicked off her sandals. “Io amo la sabbia tra le mie dita,” she said, turning her face to the sun and letting its warm glow warm her face.
After laying out a towel, she got a running start at the water and dove in. The water was perfect swimming temperature. She then began to change. She imagined herself as clay of music, able to form and mold. Slits appeared at her throat for gills and her tentacles began to form out of the center of her body while her arms and legs grew longer and skinnier. Her head elongated, which was always the weirdest part of the transformation. Her eyes grew bigger and she began to see the underwater world differently, with different shapes and colors. It was so beautiful.
Aww... she thought happily as she swam freely threw the water. It was as natural and easy to her as breathing.
(Translation: Questo è così imbarazzante = This is so embarassing! Io amo la sabbia tra le mie dita = I love sand between my toes)
Kai burst through the doors of the bus like a racehorse out of the gates. Except he was running away from an awkward situation, rather than towards the glory of a win. Why, Oh, why am I always so awkward around girls?! he chastised himself.
But then he was home free. In the wonderful air and sun. And there was sand and water! Kai set up his very manly Aladin towel out in a particularly sunny patch and plopped down his bag, minus the sunscreen. Afterall, he figured that he didn't really need the sunscreen any more. People who could absorb the sunlight and turn it into fuel for planty parts probably didn't have to worry about skin cancer. Right?
"Yahooo!" Kai yelled, and plunged into the cool water. He dove under and then surfaced again. Then he was moving. Not with the tide, though, not toward the beach as was normal. He was moving away, directly away from the sand.
"AH! Help!" He cried. "I can't get back!" He yelped, as though all involved needed to hear his narration of what was happening.
Octo-Alina swam lazily through the water, loving every carefree moment. Her body seemed to glide effortlessly through the water. Something made her stop in mid stroke. A disturbance in the water, 31.3 meters behind her.
She whirled around in a flourish of bubbles and saw the problem instantly. She saw a pair of very white human legs kicking frantically against the current to no avail. This could not be ignored! With a quick flick of her tentacles, Alina sped toward him.
It took her approximately 2.7 seconds to reach the boy. She popped to the surface and grabbed the boy around the middle. He must think I'm a monster from a horror movie, come to take him to my lair and eat him. She thought with a little laugh.
She headed for shore as quickly as she could with two less tentacles and upon reaching it, dumped him as far up the beach as she could. She hoped he wasn't too shaken up. It was hard to tell in octopus form. Luckily, not far away was a curious towel with a cartoon character on it. She flopped over, grabbing rocks with her tentacles to help, and took hold of said towel. She through it over herself and began the change back to human form. It would be easier to explain to the boy if she didn't have to write things on the sand with a tentacle.
Something squishy and textured and slightly slimy wrapped around him. He was fighting the... what was it called again? Rip tides! That's what it was, the terrible force that was pulling him out to sea. To his terribly drowning death.
But then he was being pulled by the slimy cords back towards the beach. And safety!
He coughed and grabbed towards his towel to wipe the water out of his bleary eyes, but all he grabbed was... tentacle? Or was that an arm? Or both? He couldn't see, on account of the water. So he kept blinking to try to clear his eyes. "Thank you," he gasped to his rescuer. "Thank you for saving me." Because no matter whether it was an arm or a tentacle, it had still pulled him back to safety against an impossible force.
Alina quickly grabbed the towel and wrapped it around her bare body. Sometimes her clothes survived the transformation, but when she was in a hurry, like now, they seemed to vanish. This was extremely embarrassing and inconvenient. She ran, carefully, over to her discarded bag of clothes and towel and grabbed both. She offered her towel to the guy, who she now realized was Kai, which made it even more embarrassing, when she discovered that she had stolen his.
“Urm...” she said awkwardly, face turning many shades of pink. “Your welcome. One second.”
Feeling rather rude, but to ashamed to say anything else, she ran, carefully, to the nearest outhouse to change. She quickly put her clothes back on and paused. She didn't know what to expect when she got out there and talked to him again. She could only take so much embarrassment. And she couldn't go swimming again. She was tired from rapid fire octopus transformation/swimming/rescuing and she didn't have another swimsuit with her.
I liked that suit too. She thought. It was cute.
She walked back out, his towel in hand. She would have to ask him who the cartoon character was. If she could talk to him at all.
