The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Balloons were scattered about the area. Rainbow colored streamers were tied from tree to tree. A giant rectangle of a cake sat inside a good sized container on one of the many park benches, and the other tables held various dishes of many sizes- all filled with foods fit for a sunny day in the park. Andrea stood back, her hands on her hips, and nodded her head in approval. It was the picture perfect birthday scene… in fact; she had taken it straight out of a book. So it should have been! Rolling up the sleeves of her sweater, she dove into organizing the centerpieces on the tables. It hadn’t taken long to make them, simply roses and stargazer lilies in small vases, but they matched the table covers perfectly, and Alisa had said that they were beautiful. That had made Andrea’s day. With a grin, she turned to fishing out the presents she had brought with her for her roommate from a large bag(one that could rival the one Mary Poppins owned) she had dragged to the park with her.
Alongside the rather elaborate decoration for the surprise birthday party, she had gone to a few lengths to find a few perfect presents for her first official friend, and cherished roommate. A clumsily wrapped ball of something heavy came out the bag, and she set it down carefully in the center of the table marked “Presents.” That package in particular was one she was very fond of. A bag of actual Marble marbles. She had spoken to a customer at the flower shop, one who was a fan of stone flowers, and had found out that he was a big buyer of fine stones. She had expressed interest in acquiring a chunk of black marble, and the man had been more than happy to get it to her. For a price of course. Of all the presents she had gotten Verdi, the bag had been the most expensive. Alisa had loaned her a few paychecks in advance in order to pay for everything…. But, it had been worth it. She had found a shop to carve and polish the stone, and from that transaction had come up with a bag of forty or so regular sized marbles.
The next present came out wrapped in sparkly paper with a nice little bow on top. She set that down carefully next to the marbles, and touched the necklace she had on under her sweater. The second gift was a black marble from the back, delicately wrapped in stone ivy vines that she had stolen from the garden. Hopefully Martin wouldn’t notice, seeing as she had been forced to remove a good sized chunk… Behind the vines, on the back side of the necklace, she had fashioned a small leaf to hold the bundle together, and had looped a thin gold chain though the leaf’s stem. Of course, the necklace was pretty and all, but it was the word she had written on the back that made it perfect. In simple Greek, the work stood along in black. “Friend.” She had researched many quotes on friendship on her laptop, but had decided to go with something simply and to the point. With a small smile, she picked out the last gift, one that was unwrapped save for a little green paper and a pink silk bow. A Stargazer lily sat in her hands, painstakingly painted pink and white back to its original color after she had changed it to stone. A forever flower, for her friend….
The flower was set carefully down onto the table, and she scooted the bag under the table. After one last look around to make sure everything was good, she plopped herself down next to the cake and fixed the little label that sat before it. Strawberry and vanilla… A recipe she had lifted from the internet as well. She hoped it tasted alright…. With that bothersome question on her mind, Andrea sat, and waited for the person of honor to make an appearance. A note she had left tacked to the door should have ensured that….

"Where in Central Park did you say this party was, Katy?" Eric asked. From the tangled mass that the twenty-something called his hair, an eyeball appeared, turning left and right on its bendy eye-stalk as it surveyed the area.
Kaitlyn just stood next to him in worried silence. It had taken some serious effort on this girl's part just to convince Eric to take her to this birthday party, although he only needed to come because she didn't even know how to get to Central Park, or back to the Sanctuary. Several dollars in subway fare later, she didn't want to admit that she had forgotten where the party was.
She'd spent days thinking about this party. The child couldn't remember the last time she was invited to a birthday party that she could actually attend. Lisa had agreed to lend some supplies so that the kid to make a card. In Kaitlyn's opinion, this card was so awesome that they might as well frame it and hang it up next to the Mona Lisa. And now, she might not even be able to-
Kaitlyn's arm shot up, finger pointed at a stray balloon as it drifted up above the treeline. "That way!" Eric could barely keep up with her as she utterly ignored the park's walkways, preferring instead to run through trees and trample the landscaping.
The girl finally stopped in her tracks when she saw the party decorations. She was barely able to contain her excitement. Her escort tapped her on the shoulder. "That table looks like a good place to leave your gift." He pointed to a table with a handful of presents on it. "If you need me, I'll be over there," a table lined with food.
With a nod and a smile, Kaitlyn retrieved a hand-decorated envelope from her pocket and ran towards the gift table.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!

Notes as vague and cryptic as the one she was looking at seemed almost dangerous. The fact that it was in her roommates handwriting and signed with her name, tacked to the inside of their bedroom door alleviated her fears a little. She hadn’t had anything planned for the day, she had been considering going to the library and researching dreams and what to do to combat them, but that could wait until the weather was less pleasant and there wasn’t an adventure to be had.
Quickly scuffling out of her pyjamas- there was no harm in wandering to the kitchen dressed in tracksuit pants, singlet top and bare feet, but anywhere further was pushing it. Her grey dinosaur shirt- recently washed and smelling faintly of washing powder and the warm scent of clothes-dryer- pulled over her head. Jeans were slightly less complaisant and she struggled with them for a few moments before they were safely fastened around her waist. Tying a jumper about her hips in case it got cold and slipping her feet into her shoes she was almost ready. Dragging a brush through her scruffy hair she yanked it into two bunches resembling piggy-tails.
Re-reading the note she pulled it from the door and folded carefully into her pocket. Her eyes lingered for a moment on her backpack and she considered bringing it. Tossing the thoughts of all the bag had seen her through aside she decided to compromise and grabbed her small handbag with the absolute essentials. Shrugging it onto her shoulder she set out full of purpose. She was on a quest.
~~~
Central park was hardly ever empty, but on a day like this it was far from it. The laughter and squeals of playing children wove their way through the trees, the cheers of supporters for some team or another rose and fell, preceded by the crack of baseball on bat. The trees were green and full of life, some sporting flowers or unripe fruit. The sun was warm, the breeze cool, together they made the perfect temperature.
Following the directions outlined for her quest she wove backwards and forwards, over a bridge and finally arrived at her destination. The balloons drew her attention first, her mouth slowly opened little by little as she observed the decorated tables, food and finally coming to rest on her roommate sitting behind one of the tables.
“Oh. My. God.”
She stared at her friend for a moment before continuing to look around. Realising there was a young girl and a scruffy looking man that she didn’t recognise standing at one of the tables she nodded at them with a smile and a muted wave.
“Hi there, I’m Verdy.”
She knew her friend was going to have a birthday soon, but she hadn’t known it was this close.
“Andy! You should have told me it was your birthday so I could have brought you something.”
The simple task of moving things about so that they were in just the right spot had only lasted a few minutes. Then, there was nothing to do but sit... and wait. She watched a few balloons escape, floating lazily off into the sky, and took a few moments to make sure all of the other balloons were secured soundly. She raised a delicate green wrist multiple times, obsessively checking the time while she darted about once more, then plopped back down into her seat to mope a little. no one had shown up yet... Was that a ad sign, or a good one? Andrea couldn't wrap her brain around the whole 'fashionably late' idea. Boredom threatened to set in, as well as anxiety, until she spotted two bodies heading her way from across the green.
One was small, a child, holding something sparkly, and the other was a man. Tangled hair... rather normal looking aside from that. She glimpsed a peek of an eye, and smiled. The Greek stood, tugging the back of her sweater down over the waist of her cargo shorts, and waved at the child and the man. "Welcome to the party friends, you have shown up a little earlier, so I must apologize for the current lack of guests." She raised a finger to point to the food table and let them know that they were free to dig in, until something else grabbed her attention. Her eyes turned as another body moved into her field of vision and she jumped out from behind the table excitedly, catching her sweater on the corner of the wood. Verdy was here! Verdy was here!
"Verdy!" Yanking herself free of the evil table, she quickly closed the distance between herself and her roommate and flung her arms up into the air above her head. "I was starting to worry you had not gotten my note!" The Greek turned, gesturing to the tables as a grin curled her lips from ear to ear. “Andy! You should have told me it was your birthday so I could have brought you something.” She couldn't stop herself from laughing, just a little. "No, Silly! This is for your birthday!" She ushered her friend over to the table with all of the presents on it, and turned to formally introduce herself to the other two, now that the guest of honor had arrived. Before starting in on that though, she scooped up two birthday gift bags and held them out for the girl and the man to take.
"I am Andrea. Please, make yourselves comfortable." With a soft smile, she passed over the party favors, and turned back to verdy. "Everything here is to celebrate you, what would you like to do first? I have brought plenty of games.. and food.. and cake!" She turned with each point, not knowing what to grab first. "Where did i put the pinata?!" Her left eye twitched slightly, until she spotted a rainbow tail poking out from underneath the cake table...
Kaitlyn and Eric answered the hostess's welcome by waving. As Eric led the kid towards the food-covered table, Kaitlyn whispered, "She has green skin!"
"So? I have glowy eye things attached to my scalp."
"No, isn't it cool? She's a mutant!"
Eric shrugged noncommitally, then turned on his heels to see a yet-unnamed--
>>“Hi there, I’m Verdy.”
To see Verdy. "I'm Kaitlyn!" The girl grinned, excitement still in her eyes.
"Eric." He bowed dramatically, revealing his extra set of eyes, which had a second to stare at the newcomer before he was standing upright again.
After these brief introductions, the pair watched as Verdy entirely failed to recognize her own birthday party. Kaitlyn hadn't been to many birthday partys in her memory, but she felt that this might be an unusual situation. How does somebody forget her own birthday party!? The kid didn't have much time to wonder about this, though, because the green-skinned Andrea soon came bearing party favors.
"Thanks!" More grinning as she accepted the bag. Kaitlyn was excited and she wanted everyone to know it, even if 'everyone' only inclued the three other people currently at the party. Eric nodded in thanks, letting his extra eyes poke out of his hair and stare at the green-skinned hostess.
With that, Kaitlyn went over to sit at a table and investigate the party-bag's contents while her escort helped himself to the food table. And so they made themselves comfortable, until...
>>"...plenty of games... and food... and cake! Where did I put the pinata!?"
The child's ears perked up.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
Verdy grinned as her roommate rushed towards her, catching herself on the table as she went. Silly birthday girl. Hands flailing and coming at her at something between a run and a skip. Verdy braced herself, Andy almost looked as if she might just tackle-hug her friend to the ground. Verdy didn’t mind hugs, but the spontaneous sprinting ones were a little scary. Her friend bounced to a halt in front of her and she relaxed slightly, no tackles here.
Her birthday?
Silly birthday girl.
She stared at her friend, then around at all the decorations and things and found herself speechless. This was all for her. What in life had she done to deserve such a special, wonderful, flamboyant friend?
She. Would. Not. Cry.
“...M-me?”
She was guided to a table with a little taggy marked ‘presents’, where she stood feeling a little overwhelmed. How had her friend managed to organise all this? She turned to ask, but stopped as Andy introduced herself to the child, Kaitlyn and the young man with eyes on top of his head, Eric. If Andy didn’t know them, and she didn’t know them, then why were they here at the party? Dismissing this unknown as not required- after all her first meeting with Andy was spontaneous, unplanned and in the park- she smiled at the two people, or friends-in-progress as her green-skinned roommate handed them little bags.
“Everything looks wonderful Andy, you really shouldn’t have... so expensive...”
She gave up trying to protest and wrapped her friend into a hug, careful not to knock off her sun-glasses in the process.
“Thankyou. I, I don’t know what else to say... you’re the bestest friend ever!”
A little squeeze and she released her friend and nodded as she explained all she had brought. From the corner of her eye she saw the little girl change positions slightly as the word ‘piñata’ left Andy’s lips mid pointing-dance. Nothing like crazed bashings of a multi-coloured animal to make it feel like a party. She grinned.
“Piñata sounds like fun!”
She hadn’t seen a piñata in as long as she could remember.
She blinked, staring for but a moment at the extra eyes staring at her, before she cracked a smile. "You are very welcome!" She stood for a moment, wanting to watch and see if the things that she had tucked away in those bags were the correct items for a birthday, or for a child for that matter, but her roommate spoke up again and she turned back to listen.
“Everything looks wonderful Andy, you really shouldn’t have... so expensive...” "Nonsense! nothing is to expensive when celebrating a birthda-" She was cut up abruptly when the dark haired girl wrapped her up in a tight hug, and she giggled and returned the hug full force. She had to admit, that it had been rather weird the first few days after naming Verdy as her first and only friend since moving to new york... but she had worked through all of the awkward possibilities by rampaging around the park acting like pirates...and she would never forget getting stuck at the top of the book shelves. As she stepped back and looked at the birthday girl once more, she had to grin. And widely at that.
"You did not think I would forget, did you?" With a little chuckle, she turned and retrieved another bag, and a hat from the table. Quickly tugging her's on, she held out the bag to her friend, and tilted her head. Verdy dropped the 'best friend', and Andrea could have done a jig on the spot. She left a flutter in her chest, like millions of butterflies wanted to burst forth... she had a best friend! "You don't have to say anything at all, all you have to do is don your captains hat and pick up a stick!" She left Verdy to gear herself up, and retrieved the pinata and two sticks. They hadn't had a bear, or something equally as cute... so she had ended up with a donkey. A pink, yellow, red, and green donkey. Never the less, it was full of candy, and would therefore will preform the job it was created for. She tucked it under her arm, Palmed the length of string that was to be attached, and to the tree, and held out a plain length of wood for Verdy to take.
"It is up to the birthday Girl to decide who goes first, is it not?" She turned, and extended the other to the small girl, kaitlyn if she had heard correctly. "This one is for you!" With a smile, she turned to one of the streamer soaked trees and paused while she tried to figure out how she was supposed to get the pinata up into the air...or the rope around the tree branch... Where was Saph when someone tall was needed? She turned, blinking, and smiled sheepishly at Eric. "Would you mind helping me get this up there?" She asked, pointing to a branch neatly decorated in multicolored streamers.
>>"This one is for you!"
Kaitlyn took the stick with a smile, excitement in her eyes as she imagined what was to come. She was going to thwack that pinata so hard that it would bruise the guy who made it. But she needed to warm up first. Getting up from her chair, the redhead made a few experimental swings at imaginary pinatas while Andrea walked up to Eric.
>>"Would you mind helping me get this up there?"
The man swallowed whatever it was he was chewing on. "Sure. Good food, by the way."After a brief time spent examining the tree, he had come up with a plan of attack. He jumped, grabbed a branch, and pulled himself onto it in a sitting position.
"Alright... now throw it up here."
By this point, Kaitlyn had stopped her swinging to try and find out why the heck Eric was climbing trees.
A few deep breaths and the acceptance of the stick from Andy and she was right again. There would be no over-the-top burstings from excess emotions. Wide grinning, however, was a must. She watched as the multi-coloured beast was waved around a bit, and as the little girl swung her stick with what looked like a fair amount of force.
As the young man leapt into the tree Verdy surveyed the area around them cautiously. It would not do to have a park-police officer come and scold them for climbing the trees. Although, if one did arrive perhaps he would know where they would be able to find a ladder. Their section of park seemed secluded enough that no officers were paying much attention, in fact from where she stood she couldn’t see any at all. That was a bonus, as getting arrested at her own birthday party seemed reserved for a twenty-first, if at all.
She looked at the young girl. It made sense that she went first. Surely she wouldn’t break it on the first turn, and if she did Verdy’s hands would be free to snatch at the candy, collecting was the main part. The candy itself could be shared out, but the triumph of gathering the most was the appeal of the game. Besides, it had been so long since she had played this game that a refresher of watching someone else thump the poor donkey would probably be of benefit to her.
“You can go first, if you like.”
She smiled at the girl. Age should be no separator to friendship, and making friends was always fun.
